Bluetooth Audio Source- Auto Switching IOS6

I have had the iPhone4s working forever with 2 different Cadillacs (2010 and then a new 2013) only to find once I upgraded to the latest iOS6 on the iPhone 4s the Bluetooth hands free for phone changed its behavior for the worst. Symptoms:
Once the Phone is "paired" it works- someone can call me and I can answer it with the handsfree system in the Escalade. When making outbound calls is when it goes one of two ways listed below.
     1. Phone dials and connects however the Audio "source" is the Handset in which case I have to click the Audio Source button on the handdset and select my Car handsfree for the call, which it then switches instantly to the car and everything proceeds fine. (The phone for some reason switches from the overhead audio source to handset by default)
     2. Phone dials and connects and works perfectly over the Handsfree system
The phone ALWAYS connects as it should- it ALWAYS works flawlessly on incoming phone calls- its ONLY when I dial a call it goes to either the handset OR the Overhead system. There is NO pattern for the behavoir, it could work perfect for 3 straight calls then the 4 call it prefers the Handset. Or it could go to the handset on the FIRST call.
I am on the phone constantly so this bug is very annoying. When I dial someone I have to wait to see if its going to randomly select the overhead sound system or the handset. This was not a problem in this vehicle when I was running IOS5- it literally started when I upgraded the Iphone 4s to IOS6. I figured (hoped) that when the iPhone5 arrived it would make the problem go away however its the exact same behavoir.
Has anyone else experienced this awesomeness? (I have already deleted and re-paired it a few times to no avail)
Frank

I am having the same issue in my 2013 GMC Acadia Denali.
I believe it was working fine when I bought the car in December of 2012... but an apple update (iOS 6.01) created this problem.
I realize the car could still be at fault (perhaps the iPhone is doing things correctly, but the car is connecting to the bluetooth 4.0 standard incorrectly), but either way I just wish things were working like they used to.
This is a dangerous and annoying bug.

  • Audio not auto switching when plugging headphones in

I just wanted to see if anyone has encountered this yet. Both my Macbook Pro (2011) and Mac Pro (2011), have recent installs of Yosemite, the MBP a fresh install, the Mac Pro and upgrade. Each have a cinema display (mini display port) plugged in. When I plug my headphones in to the headphone port, the audio does not auto switch to them and continues to play through my Cinema Display. On Mavericks this was not the case, now each time I want to use my headphones I have to manually switch the audio over to them.

I've been having the same issue, I would say it's Thunderbolt display related but I believe I had the issue with my home laptop (no display).
When I plug my headphones in, they're ignored and sound continues to play out of the system or display speakers. I have to go into the Sound preferences and select headphones as the output. Annoyingggg

  • Iphone 4 no longer changing audio source to make call via in car bluetooth.

Hi, I have an Audi A4, my iphone 4 connects to it, you can look at the directory's, calls made, missed etc,
When you want to make a call or receive a call, the audio source from the phone is not put through the car, its only goes through the phone.
Checking the iphone, it used to show a list of audio sources i.e. the car's bluetooth connection, the speaker or the phone.
No it doesn't show the car's bluetooth.
My HTC Desire S has no such issues and voice can be heard through the car's bluetooth, so I assume that the car's bluetooth is not at fault.
    Thanks for any help

I had this same problem with my iPhone 4 and my BMW. I deleted the pairing and paired the phone to the car again, and the same issue occurred.
I reset the iPhone by pressing the on/off switch and the home button and that worked! The audio sources showed up and I was able to get audio from the car.

  • No sound when switching audio sources after 12.1.1.4 update. Requires iTunes restart every time.

    System Details:
    Windows 8.1 pro - 64 bit
    i5-3320M @2.6GHz
    12GB Ram
    Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430
    Issue:
Before the 12.1.1.4 iTunes update I could simply turn on my bluetooth speaker or headphones and both Windows and iTunes would automatically switch to that audio source, even mid-song. I could turn the speakers on and off multiple times and the sound would almost instantaneously switch between sources without fail. Now I have to restart iTunes to hear music after turning on my bluetooth speakers or headphones. Itunes simply stops playing music, although the pause button does not revert to the play symbol, but the track progress indicator stops moving.
    Please help!
    Thanks.

Make sure you have the latest version of QuickTime (7.6.6) installed - if this is missing or out of date there may be no audio output from iTunes (including, but not limited to, playback through Bluetooth devices) or playback may be of poor quality.
Also check iTunes' Play Audio Using setting in Edit > Preferences > Playback (you will have to restart iTunes for any changes to take effect).  In most cases selecting Direct Sound addresses playback issues when Windows Audio Session is active (though some users have reported the reverse),
If neither of these solves your problem try installing this alternate version: iTunes 12.1.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards).  The "for older video cards" label is a little misleading, as this also fixes some playback issues, QuickTime and Outlook interoperability errors, and problems with other third-party applications.

  • Firefox plugin breaks after Bluetooth audio switching

Tracked down a bug to the FF flash plugin: On XP sp2 using FF
2.0.0.12 and Flash 9.0.47.0 (rolled back from the 9.0.115.0
disaster) after starting then stopping a Bluetooth audio session
(a2dp), Flash no longer plays audio/video. All the usual sites stop
working (youtube, cnn video, imeem, etc) I can get it to start
working again only by restarting Firefox.
Background info: when using Bluetooth headphones, XP's audio
output is routed to the Bluetooth receiver (in my case, by a
Broadcomm bluetooth stack) After ending the session, the audio is
routed back (eg to the desktop speakers). Flash handles being
routed to the receiver, but not being routed back.
I know it's not FF itself, b/c other FF multimedia plugins
handle the transitions fine (eg. quicktime). I know it's specific
to the FF version, b/c on IE, the flash plugin works fine after
    Bluetooth switches.
Anyone have any similar problems? Restarting FF doesn't sound
like a problem, but with many tabs open, it takes forever.
I'll try sending this in to Adobe, but after seeing their
(non)response to the buggy as fcuk 9.0.115.0 player, I doubt they
even test their FF version, let alone follow up on bug
    reports.

    *bump. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks, this was the clue I needed to figure it out.
From Settings you can pull up Control Center.
In Control Center you can enable "Access from within Apps" (also "Access from Lockscreen")
Now when I'm playing music, I can swipe up from the bottom and a little control center window slides up. Neat - this is new since my old iPod. On this window, the name of the current Bluetooth connection appears. Tap on that, and a list of connected Bluetooth items appears. I just tap on the one I want to connect to and I am now playing through the speakers I want.

  • Question about HP 2311xi - auto-switch source and delay wakeup from sleep

I recently purchased this monitor and noticed that when it wakes from sleep it will take about 5-10 seconds for it to wake whereas other monitors I've owned they have gone on immediately.  I was just wondering if this is how this monitor is or if I have an issue with it.
Secondly, how is the auto-switch source suppose to work?  I have my PC set to DVI and I have the default source set to my 360 through the HDMI connection.  I would assume that when the 360 goes on it would go to the default source and switch over to the hdmi connection.  However, my monitor does nothing.  What does the auto-switch source actually do or is mine just defective?
Thanks in advance for any help on this monitor.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Auto-switch source only works if there is no signal as it detects the port with a signal and auto switches to that port.  However, the monitor has no way of knowing exactly which port the user wants when two signals are present.
Default port setting is what the monitor will look for first when being turned on and doesn't necessarily give that port override capabilities.
Taking 5-10 seconds can be normal.  My third-party monitor at home generally takes about 5 seconds before displaying a signal, but this may have more to do with the HDMI connection (I haven't tested this with the VGA port).  I don't believe this is a cause for concern.
Let me know if I answered your questions.

  • Switching audio sources without stopping FMLE

We use several Osprey cards, and wish to change from one audio/video source to another audio/video source without stopping FMLE.
We can do the video switching from one Osprey input to the other using wirecast or vidblaster software video mixers, but are at a loss how to switch the sudio from one osprey input to another without stopping FME and selecting the other audio inpout from the drop-down list. We do not know of any audio mixer that FMLE recognises with which we can accomplish changing one audio source to another withour stopping FMLE.
Any information in this regard much appreciated,
    Thank you

to my knowledge, there is no software mixer with 0 lag because its software.  Hardware allows for no lag because theres nothing reading the info, encoding etc.  Software reads the audio data, usually it chunks, this is why it creates lag.  i did some testing using a usb mic and listening for the amount of time between me making the sound and it actually coming out.  Its just barely noticeable to annoy the person talking if he or she were to be listening to it through headphones or speakers, but i would estimate about 1/8 of a second.  Though if you want to be able to remotely control a mixer and you have someone working with you with a little technical experience, you could have them rig up a remote control system using remote control airplane actuators to turn the knobs.
also while looking mackie control mixers say they have motorized faders, and since its program controlled, i believe you can actually control the faders using a program, but his would mean getting a new mixer.  if you want to look these up, http://www.mackie.com/products/mcupro/

  • [Solved] Bluetooth A2DP source to pulseaudio OR ALSA

    Edit
So, I'm happy to say that I have it working to some degree!
I wasn't happy with the default bluez tools, but I managed to find a useful set of tools which seemed to work better: http://gitorious.org/bluez-tools/bluez-tools/
I compiled and make'd them, then created the following startup script to set up everything in the order it is needed for the next part to work: https://gist.github.com/c990e397388bd4399a15
I made a file called bluetoothPin in the home directory with the following in it:
    <My phone's MAC (without the angle brackets)> <A Pin Number>
The bt-agent command in the startup.sh script uses that file to authorise connections. I aim to modify it to allow any connection to connect with the same pin, I'll get into that later.
For the actual streaming, I installed qt so I could get the qdbus binary, then I followed the instructions here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? … st10492742
That code worked, so I modified it a little so that it would wait for a connection, then make the connection, then wait for a new connection on disconnect: https://gist.github.com/8e32a9cf786995c00f2f
It's not perfect; things get a bit iffy when you try to pair and then connect a device without rebooting the pi: It disconnects gracefully, and it pairs correctly, but pulse doesn't seem to re-add it to its list, so it's no longer identified by my script. Also I haven't figured out how to pair any device against the same pin code yet. Any help with that would be awesome!
    Hi there,
I'm trying to build a bluetooth audio receiver server for my car! I have a raspberry pi with arch installed on it, bluez set up and configured (I can pair my phone with it through the bluez-simple-agent, although I think I'll have to write my own pairing daemon to auto-pair anything that attempts to connect).
Baby steps though: I've got bluez all set up as I mentioned earlier, but pulse doesn't seem to "see" the bluetooth connection. I'm not sure exactly what information you guys need to help me, but I've tried to add everything I could think of:

    About my project in general:
I want to be able to do the following:
    - Give pulseaudio access to the bluetooth device, and use the A2DP protocol to receive the audio. From my research, it is possible, but I'm not sure how.
    - Open up bluez so that I can pair any device by connecting with "1234" for the auth, then it will automatically check for A2DP and give that information to pulse
The idea being that any bluetooth device can pair without any interaction from the raspberry pi, and then pulse will have access to all of the devices which are playing music.
    1] Is this even possible?
2] Can I use alsa instead as it seems it'd be easier/lighter to manage?
3] Are there any documents other than arch's bluetooth and pulse wikis that I can read to help me figure this out?

Actually I've solved it myself by looking at the wiki page I posted.
I am not sure about what you said but PulseAudio doesn't require ALSA (alsa-lib, alsa-utils, sort of) to play sound except when with those applications that do not have direct support (now even Flash have that). But maybe the drivers for sound cards in Linux kernel could be said as a part of ALSA, then I am not sure about those stuff.

  • HDMI Auto Switch

Hi! I have a HDMI in my laptop, Dell XPS L421X with XFCE. When I connect HDMI to TV I have the video, use ARandR to set the displays, but not sound. I Install pavucontrol (PulseAudio Volume Control) because in SoundMixer have not controls with pulseaudio and not apear the hdmi. With pavcontrol I can select the audio and go to TV.
In pavcontrol I can see in the Configuration Tab, diferent profiles for built-in audio:
Analog Stereo Duplex --Default Analog Stereo Output
Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input
    Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output
Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input
    Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output (unpluged)
Digital Sourround 5.1 (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input
    Digital Sourround 5.1 (HDMI) Output
Digital Sourround 5.1 (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input
Digital Sourround 5.1 (HDMI) Output (unpluged)
    Analog Stereo Input
    Off
The first: Analog Stereo Duplex is the default when the sound exit by the laptop.
To set audio with TV I can select: "Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input" or "Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output"
Is possible to auto switch the audio/video when the hdmi is plug-in and plug-out? ARandR & pavcontrol appear have not this control...
    Thanks in advance!

Can you enable HDMI video from the command line?
Can you enable HDMI sound from the command line?
I made a script that will toggle HDMI video and sound for the TV. Then, I assigned it to a keyboard command so it's easy to toggle. Let me know if you want to see my script. I have a Radeon HD5450, and I use the open source radeon driver and ALSA.
After you can enable HDMI video and sound from a script, then you can learn how to detect when the cable is plugged in.

  • Fix for iPhone 5 Bluetooth audio loss / disconnect?

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4s to an iPhone 5.  I have a Motorola HX550 Bluetooth Headset which worked flawlessly with the iPhone 4s.  However, since upgrading to the iPhone 5, I frequently lose audio when in the middle of a call.  I am not certain whether it is a full disconnect or just an audio loss.  The person on the other end reports still being able to hear me, however, I suppose they could hear me speaking over another source even if bluetooth disconnected. The loss of audio is always preceded by a quick shrill noise, so I can easily tell when it happens.  All I have to do to fix the problem is to select Audio Source on the call screen, temporarily switch audio back to the iPhone, and then switch back to the headset, and then it starts working again.
Is is important to note that I am not the only one experiencing this issue:
This is a link to someone using the Motorola H19txt headset experiencing the same issue
    https://forums.motorola.com/posts/94ac15ad7c
If you go to the Plantronics website and look at the "Ratings and Reviews" on the Voyager Legend you will see the same issue reported:
http://www.plantronics.com/us/product/voyager-legend (next paragraph is taken from the review since there is no direct link to the review.
Really nice Headset unless you own an Iphone 5. I own several Plantronics headsets and have always loved the quality/ performance. This headset seems not to be compatible with the new Iphone 5. In the middle of a conversation it will lose all incoming audio. This leaves you trying to switch audio sources really fast in order not to lose your phone call. Ive tried 3 legend headsets and they all do the same thing. Hopefully this gets fixed soon because the headset is really nice
Since this issue appears to affect multiple headsets from multiple vendors, I think it is fair to conclude that it is an issue with the iPhone5 bluetooth itself.
I am posting this as a new discussion as I don't see any other posts specific to this iPhone 5 Bluetooth issue.  I would have reported this as a problem to Apple, but don't seem to be able to find a way to do this on the web.  Hopefully they are already aware, but if not, maybe they will see i here.
If anyone else has experienced this issue, or has recommendations on how to prevent this from happening, I would appreciate your feedback / additions to this post.

I upgraded to an iPhone 5 last year, and since that time I have had the audio drop out problem at intermittent but bothersome rates. Interestingly, the audio drop occurs only with some Bluetooth headsets, and never with others. The headsets that have the problem are all over the head devices with strong noise suppression and very long battery life. The problem started with the Parrott XT250+, 20 hours talk time and fantastic noise suppression.
I then purchased the RK400 RoadKing, it has 30 hours talk time, and is a little lighter and less geeky looking.
Also superb, but it cuts out more often than the BlueParrot.
However, I have a Bose in ear Bluetooth which never loses audio.
These heavy duty Bluetooth headsets are popular with truckers. They indicate greater distance to/from the device, about double. 60 feet vs. 30 feet, as I recall.
There must be a Bluetooth standard they adhere to that causes the audio loss problem in the iPhone. Just clicking to iPhone and back to the bluetooth will clear it. I also sometimes have a funny noise that indicates the audio is out, but usually it's noticing the other person not speaking. It has caused some serious problems on important business calls. I bought these headsets, and the iPhone5, to handle these calls.
Apple's Genius bar folks do not appear to have heard of this problem. I was asked to demonstrate it, which i did, eventually I was given a brand new iPhone5 to address the problem. The results of that were interesting, the rate of drop about doubled on the new phone over the old.
I was told when the phone was replaced, and again when I went back, that I would probably have to erase everything on the iPhone, set it up as a new phone on iTunes on my computer, and reload whatever apps I wanted (Apple knows which you paid for). I went through this procedure. I didn't suspect it would work, but I tried it. It didn't work. And again, the frequency of the drop out varied. This leads me to believe it may be some odd memory or cache overload since different phone utilization of space seems to be an affecting variable.
That is, I had all but 8 gigs utilized on my 32 gig iPhone 5 when the problem began. When I had the phone replaced and backed up, I trimmed back some of the apps. When I wiped the phone's drive and reinstalled, I wouud up with more memory available, as I deleted 1000 photographs during the reinstall.
It's frustrating, but I have encountered such weird anomalies in the past. I am glad this forum exists to document the problem and hope Apple will notice, acquire a few of the problem headsets, and resolve the bug.

  • Iphone 4s audio source problems

Hi.  When I make a call using my phone (4S) and the audio source is either bluetooth or iphone, the person i'm calling can't hear me.  I have to switch to speaker phone instead.  Please advise.  Thanks

I have a similar issue. I just installed a Jabra Drive and now, the default audio source is the Jabra...even when I am not near the device. When i answer a call, or make an outgoing call on my iPhone, I need to manually switch the audio source to the iPhone.
This was never an issue with my Morotola H17 bluetooth ear piece.

  • BT audio source selection is goofy

I'm using a Jawbone BT but had the same issue with a Jabra unit, too.
When paired, BT is the default source. When I choose audio source of iPhone or Speaker, it only works for a few seconds and then it switches back to BT.
It always requires three attempts before the selection stays on iPhone. Anybody else having this problem? Have you found a fix?
BTW: This issue has existed for me since v.1 and I'm currently running 1.1.3.

I have not had any issues with my bluetooth headset. I'm using a Plantronics Discovery 655, and it has paired well, and connects everytime I turn it on. The only thing I haven't liked about how it works with the iPhone, is when the phone rings, I just get a series of beeps in the headset. With my Motorola phone, it gave me whatever ringtone I had set on the phone.
I would check the headset, ensure it is fully charged, and try again. If that doesn't work, and you can, try and made an appointment at the Genius Bar and have them check it out. There could be a problem with the phone.
    Hope this helps you.

  • CK-7W AUTO SWITCH OFF

Hi all, be gentle it's my first time!
Am having an issue with the CK-7W in that it will auto switch off itself and the phone in the cradle after a minute or two of the ignition being turned off.
Can this be fixed by not connecting the ignition sense cable on installation?
Have 8 of these car kits and it would be helpful if we know what to tell the installer next time round!
    Cheers, L

Yes you can disconnect the blue wire & that will dissable auto turn off, it actually says in the instuction that you dont have to connect the blue wire because the kit will shut down if not connected to a phone for over 2 mins. I would only reconmend this if you have cradles in the car because if you have keep pairing and disconnecting the Bluetooth connection it will become a pain in the butt. It will only drain you battery if you connect the blue wire to a constant power source like the red wire.
