Bluetooth automatically connecting when not in use

My car has bluetooth and is set up that when you are connected to an ipod, it will play through the port in the car unless bluetooth is connecte. Bluetooth will override the MDI port. The phone has no problems connecting, but everytime I receive a text, or notification, my phone automatically connects to my car and cuts off whatever I am listening to. This used to happen only when I chose a song, which is what it is supposed to do. Any idea why receiving a text or notificiation would activate my phone into connecting to the bluetooth? I've tried a soft reset and don't have too many other ideas. Thank you

Hi,
Depending on which headset you are using the headset may disconnect to a kind of standby mode. The headset will auto connect to your phone when you are placing or receiving a call. Depending on which software you can also force a connection by tapping the call button.

  • Bluetooth headset disconnecting when not in use

I noticed that when not in use, the Sony Bluetooth headset disconnects from the phone. Didn't see that problem with the Samsung Galaxy Music. Is this a battery saving feature of Stamina mode?

  • My mac is constantly  dropping my wi fi connection when not in use for a while - annoying.

Recently my Mac has taken to dropping  the wi fi connection -  it seems to happen if the Mac isnt used for a short peiod of time say 10 mins or longer . It is very annoying and  it never used to do this. When you come back it tells you no connection and then  looks for the nework and says it cant find the prefeered one. I have reset newtork preferences to id/connect to  my home wi fi netowrk but the problem persists every time I ause use fora while. Really annoying. Is this something to do with a  recent OS software upgrade? Does Apple have a fix ? I am getting increasingly annoyed with  thier upgrades which are apparently  desighend to improve software but which  then degrade another apsect of performance. Any answers?

Hi Bibii and welcome to Discussions,
first of, you have posted in the Mac Pro section not the MacBook Pro section here http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=190
Anyway, is this really a shutdown or is it just sleeping ?
If sleeping check the Energy Savings settings in the System Preferences for when your MBP should go to sleep when inactive.

Sorry, there is no feature for that built into Firefox, and I haven't seen an add-on to add that feature to Firefox.

macbook air runs hot and makes noise like processor running hard when connected to display - even when not actively using air book

You could use the free tool iStat Pro to see what changes when you connect your MBA to the display. Without doing anything the CPU pane should show a high percentage for "Idle". If the idle value is too low, launch the Activity Monitor and sort by CPU usage. There is a pane showing the different temperatures of your computer. Watch them for a few minutes after connecting the display.

  • Am I supposed to leave the display plugged in when not in use?

should the display be left plugged in when not in use? is it just like leaving the power cord to the MacBoold Pro plugged in when the computer is off?
    thanks

Sure, you can leave the display plugged into the socket, provided you turn OFF the display itself. There must be somewhere some switch or touch button that will turn the display OFF.
Usually, those displays use a lot of power, so it's better to save
I shall add an unrequested piece of advice: if you don't this already, please use some kind of electrical surge protector
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surge_protector> to connect your computer, display, printer, router, etc to the wall socket.

  • Apps wanting to access my location when not in use (and not giving the option to turn it off)

For most apps, I can choose to share my location 1) not at all; 2) when the app is in use (my favourite); 3) always (even when not in use).
Why do some apps not offer the second option?
For instance, I want to use an app that locates the nearest automatic external defibrillator (if someone has a cardiac arrest) but I can only use the app when I allow the app to access my location all the time. Given the fact that I will use this app perhaps only once every 15 years, I see no point in giving them my location for the next 15 years! That's just a waste of battery power and also a breach of my privacy.
Second example: Apple's own weather app. I check the weather maybe once every month. I do not want the app to locate me all the time. But I can only choose between option 1) and 3) above.
Is there a technical reason apps work like this? Or are they just sneakily trying to get as much information about me as possible?
    Thanks for your thoughts.
    PS: I am using iphone 6, iOS8.3

everything rudegar said is right on.  Still, 10% overnight is more than you would expect - so something is still running.  try-
double click the home button, and see what apps are listed as recent.  one or more of them might be still churning away.  it is a good idea to close those out fully every night.  Any of those apps with notifications or location services may be checking in every now and then and using your power.
you mentioned airplane mode is 'off'.  this may be a terminolgy thing - but having airplane mode 'off', means that the radios are on.  WiFi, and 3 G if you have it.    turning airplane mode "on" turns off the radios.
with everything off on mine - (except I leave the wifi on) -  i use 2 or 3% overnight.
But if you really want it off - do what rudegar says.

  • Is it possible to let the TS-HD go sleep when not in use

is it possible to let the Time Capsule HD go idle when not in use for saving energy?

If the Time Capsule is functioning normally, the hard drive will spin up automatically when a Time Machine backup begins and spin down after the backup is completed.
My Time Capsule normally runs for a minute or two for the backup each hour....otherwise the drive is not active.

  • Iphone 5 battery suddening draining when not in use

Had my iphone 5 for about 3 months and was very pleased with the battery life. But literally out of no where the battery started draining super fast. Dropping 15% in 30 minutes when not in used. Here's the deal...nothing has changed ie locations, email, icloud etc. And quite honestly what is the freaking point of having those things if it drains the battery at unreasonable speeds. So I completely frustrated with Apple for at least not saying "we understand theres and issue and we are working on it." I will never switch cuz I'm an idiot Apple diehard but there have been so many bugs of late it's just frustrating. Also at the same time of the fast drain when I swipe to delete a text the delete button dissapears within one second. Both issues came on at the same time. I'm trying reseting the battery, restoring, unchecking notifications and a bunch of other features which is so stupid... whats the point of having a smart phone if you can't use the features? So I am going to demand a new phone and I know the Apple Genius guys who are so far from genius its pathetic are going to say nothing is wrong with the phone haha, just like the did with the super slow WiFi connections I get...they were completely unaware that there was a problem with iphones and Wifi cuz of course at the Apple Store the Wifi flies when they test it there but of course once you go back to your home or business the Wifi is back to super slow. Wow the things we put up with. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions please reply.

  • Unplugging STBs when not in use?

We've bought some power-saver surge protectors so we can unplug electronic devices when not in use.
I know I have to keep the router plugged in, and I'll probably keep the DVR plugged in as well.
But as for my other two STBs (one HD, one SD), is there any reason not to unplug those when not in use?  Do they need to stay connected to the network for any reason?
Since the first answer to most STB problems seems to be "try unplugging it first" it seems that regular unplugging should be okay, but will I wear them out early by essentially rebooting several times a week?

Probably not a good idea. The stb's do not draw a lot of power so your not going to save much money. And Verizon is constantly updating and "upgrading" (this is debatable in some cases) the stbs, and they do it at night when it is least likely to affect people watching tv. If your boxes are unplugged they wont update when they are told to do it. Probably would not be a huge issue but why tempt fate.
Now if you are going to be away for some time, like on a vacation, then yes, definitely unplug them. In fact unplug all your major electronics. But on a day to day basis, no, leave them plugged in.

  • Is Chromium Spying When Not in Use?

I just learned of a tool called "nethog", installed it and watched to see what programs were generating traffic on my computer.  One of them was chromium, which is funny because I wasn't using Chromium.
I've known for some time thanks to "top" that chromium runs when I'm not using it.  I thought that it was annoying, and that it embedded itself into some autostart file, and was just taking up memory so that it would launch faster for when I actually opened it.  However, I never suspected that it was generating network traffic when not in use.
I've since uninstalled Chromium, but I ran whois on one of the IPs that it was connecting to. It was Edgecast, a "Content delivery" service owned by Disney.
    Is anyone else seeing this?

So to be clear, other people are experiencing this, and are OK with the idea that Chromium is running, and communicating with websites when the browser is closed (and hasn't been opened in weeks across multiple boots)?
Sure it is open source, but it is also big, complex, and created by a company that is very interested in harvesting your data.  I tend to think of Google as a benevolent giant, and I have a certain amount of faith in the open source process, but you could probably hide a small city in chromium's source code, or an vulnerability the size of the San Andreas fault.
Heh, maybe I'm paranoid, or maybe I am after all the only one that experienced this after all.  But to be honest, programs running without my explicit permission, phoning home in ways that I could not easily control or understand were a large part of the reason that I left windows so many years ago.
Actually it does have your permission and it *can* be useful. You can just deactivate it with unticking "run in background". I like it as I'm sometimes too lazy to open up another mail program and thus just fire up GMail and get notified of it – even when not running in foreground.
So yeah, there's a not-spying reason for it but we can't really know whether this is the only reason ^^.

The power saving will be negligible, and it may take time to re-establish a connection to your ISP's Network.

  • How to have time capsule sleep when not in use

Is there any way to have my time capsule sleep (stop spinning ) when not in use? it runs constantly and gets warm. I need to find out how to make it idle and wake up when my Mac calls for a backup. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, how to do it? I have the time capsule connected to a router off of a cable modem. Thanks to all

Is there any way to have my time capsule sleep (stop spinning ) when not in use?
Does the disk spin up and down continually? Or is it just spinning non-stop?
What model is the TC? Please give the A1xxx model from the rubber base mat.. and size of the hard disk.
Did you update to the latest firmware? When did the problem start, ie did it correspond with firmware update?
Have you played with it.. replaced the drive etc? If this is stock standard it should spin down almost immediately disk access finishes.

  • Should I turn off my Mac Pro when not in use or leave it running?

I have been told I should never turn off my computer by some people, and others say that I should always turn it off when not in use!  I use my Mac Pro primarily for music recording/editing in my home studio or word processing.  Now that I have an iPad I use that for web browsing, email, FBing, etc. and I find myself on my Mac Pro a lot less.  I get the basis behind both trains of thought; those who leave it on feel always stopping and starting up puts unnecessary wear on the moving disks, and those who shut down think if the parts are always moving they are bound to wear out faster.  I am not as concerned with conserving power as I am with keeping my machine safe!  If you have any information on this topic I would love to hear it. Thanks!

Providing you have a robust firewal and are not worried as a result about being hacked then leave it turned on and allow it to sleep. Make sure you allow the screen to sleep as well a that is the item that is more prone to damage by being left on all the time.
I never turn my machine off, never have with any of my Macs ever since my first one back in 1979-ish and have never suffered any adverse affects. Today, the power drain is so small when allowed to sleep that I doubt they would offend even the ardent 'turn off everything and pull out the plug to save the planet' person.
If you have an iPad or iPod synced with the Mac for email and iCal and address Book etc. then if you leave it on it should be up to date as soon as you return home, mine is anyway. With iCloud coming out very soon that may come into play even more so with all its advance pushing etc. Just a thought.
One advantage in leaving the machine on (sleep) is that you can access it from anywhere in the world should the need arise with the appropriate settings, which you can't if you turn it off.
    Leave it on.
