Bluetooth basics

I have a few basic questions that I couldn't find clear answers to elsewhere if anybosy can help me I would be grateful
I'm looking to connect mt Imac (which doesn't have inbuilt bluetooth with my SE V600i phone.
1) Can anybody recomend a good USB Bluetooth Adapter (or brand)? A decent retailer would help as well! Any kind of buyer advice would be lovely
2) Many USB BT Adapters talk about what OS they run on (most seem not mention OSX) does this only apply to the software? Will any USB BT adapter be compatible.
3)I know isync will do my calender and Contacts but without the software can I still transfer my photos and sound files?
Thanks you for your time.

Hi, Will —
Imho, the best answer to this query is also the simplest — as is the reason why:
      D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter —
because:
    (a) It works [1]
    (b) The DBT-120 Revisions B2, B3, and B4 are the only adapters that Apple formally supports with its Bluetooth Software 1.5 and Bluetooth Firmware Updater 1.2.
In fact, I name these with intent — because you'll need to run both updaters to take fullest advantage of Bluetooth on Mac OS X 10.4. Please refer to this post from Alexander Traud for advice on the latter. For clarity, please note that the DBT-120 comes with Bluetooth Specification 1.1 "built-in" (as is the case with many Bluetooth adapters and other Bluetooth-enabled products on the market). Bluetooth technology has "come a long way" since then — with v.1.2, and then 2.0+EDR. Apple's firmware updater provides ~compliance with v.1.2 — thus the importance of its applicability. (2.0+EDR requires a different Bluetooth chip.)
I'd also suggest upgrading to OS X 10.4.6, if you haven't as suggested by your signature, using the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo for PPC.
[1]   If you read the Apple Store reviews (1st link above) or do a search for, say, "DBT-120" via the Bluetooth forums' index page, you'll find that a number of folks have experienced difficulties, however — even with the appropriate model of the DBT-120. So please feel free to pursue any further questions you may have.
There are also some limitations in Apple's current Bluetooth implementation — for example, some existing profiles aren't supported yet. See Which profiles does Apple Bluetooth support? (Bluetooth 1.5 Help) for a listing of those that are. From what you've written, these issues may not be important to you for now.
I also suggest that you search this forum for "v600i" from the Search box at the top-right-hand-side of the main page. This should help you to answer all of your other questions — including some you may not have thought about yet...
I hope this helps!
Regards,
Dean

  • Nokia E51 refuses to connect to Nokia BH800 blue...

It took quite a bit of trouble trying to resolve ths problem  but it should have been quite simple . The problem itself isn't hard to resolve if you can get the information you'll require to set it right . Ok so here is the solution .  Open up menu on the E51, Open up tools , Open settings , Open general. Open factory settings .click on  "restore allfactory settings " . Your fone will restart after a few mins. You should now be able to connect your bluetooth unit to the E51 using the normal method . I hope this post is helpful to someone .

If you read this forum, you will see loads of posts about Microsoft Bluetooth and Widcomm conflicts, I suggest you read those and also www.nokia.com/pcsuite support pages FAQ section about Bluetooth (basically you have to choose what you use, Microsoft or Widcomm and activate only one and uninstall the other)
The cable thing does not make sence, if PC Suite indicates in Launcher view:
"N70 connected via cable" and you have usb icon in phone screen, you must be connected ?
Device manager is: My Computer - right click, manage, device manager - wireless communication devices (and modem under "modems") Are you really saying you cannot see anything there..weird, if you are connected...
If you were actually talking about Windows Explorer/Nokia Phone Browser and you get operation could not be completed,do this:
go to Start -> Run and enter
    Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll
Click OKMessage Edited by manta on 23-Feb-2006

  • Nokia N8 + Audi RNS-E (Audi Music Interface)

    Hi there,
My problem is , my audi A3 with RNS-E with module BT, can access missed calls, phonebook and call history , the problem is, it can't give the signal strength, is always empty signal even if the phone has full signal strengh.
It's weird because all the main faulty problems should be with phonebook and missed calls log and so, but in this case it's the simpliest signal strengh that isn't okay.
Nokia X6 works like a charm.
What do you think it is ?
Audi firmware is the latest, just like N8.

It's something to do with backward compatibility in Bluetooth - basically, the Audi b/t uses an earlier version of some b/t standard but the N95 only supports the latest version - older phone models use the old standard so they work fine.
This has been discussed several times on the car phones section so you should be able to find more information there if you try a search.

  • Beginning Bluetooth Programming - Basic Stack Question

I have moderate but not extensive experience with Java development, and have just stumbled across the javax.bluetooth JSR-082 packages. I'm interested in using these packages, but have a general question or two that deals just as much with bluetooth as it does with Java itself...if anyone could be of help, it would be much appreciated.
Despite all the articles I've read, I'm a bit confused about the initialization of the bluetooth stack. My laptop has bluetooth integrated into it, is running XPSP2, and from what I can tell its now using the WIDCOMM driver. Does this mean that I have access to the WIDCOMM stack (ostensibly using the Broadcom SDK)? Or do I need additional software? I also keep reading that XP has included the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack...but nowhere do I read how to access it, nor any instructions, nor the beginning of instructions, for initialization of either the WIDCOMM or Microsoft stacks within the context of JSR-082. Any suggestions or input would be appreciated.

  • Bluetooth buggy issues with iphone 5s after ios 8 upgrade

I am having issues with my Handsfreelink in my 2013 Honda Pilot after the ios 8 upgrade.Basically, music works the phone does not.
    What I have tried:
    1) Hard reset
    2) deleted and re-setup all bluetooth settings on both phone and car
I suspect this is a bug in ios8 that needs to be addressed. On a sidenote I am also unable to plug my phone into the USB port on the car, now says unsupported.

The same thing happened to me on my 2012 Subaru Outback.  I'm not sure this will help you since you have a Honda, but I'm posting this just in case.
I paired the audio on my car with my iPhone 6.  However, when I turned the car off and back on again, the iPhone would not pair automatically.  I had to manually connect the iPhone with the car.  Turns out there are two separate bluetooth pairings on my car: one for phone which allows up to 5 devices and one for audio which allows only one device.  So I did the second bluetooth pairing for the phone (had already done the audio), and that fixed it.  YMMV

  • 755p Voice Dial with BlueTooth

I've searched all over the place for help with my quest to make my Treo 755p "Smart" phone have bluetooth voice dial capabilities.  What seems to be out-of-the-box functionality for many normal phones (no "smart" in their name) is apparently difficult to achieve with the Treo 755p, and apparently with all Treos from what I've seen so far.  Here's the conclusion that I'm coming to, but I just can't believe it, so I'm posting this here in the hopes the experts (that's you guys) will either correct my misunderstanding, or (hopefully not) confirm that I'm on the right track.
    APPARENTLY:
Voice dial capability is not part of the Treo 755p; one has to install a 3rd party program or service to gain this functionality.  There are a few good options out there, but they do cost additional money.
Voice dial programs apparently work pretty good with the wired headsets that come with the Treo package.  Apparently (although I have not tested it yet) pressing the button on the side of the treo or one the wired headset can be configured to activate the voice dial software, and the user can speak into the wired headset microphone to dial by voice.
Extra digit dialing is apparently not supported by most (if any) of the software I've seen that works on the Palm platform.  (This is hard to tell exactly, because some software works only for the windows platform, which I don't have.)
Bluetooth headsets configured in hands-free mode will launch the voice-dial software, but I've found that the treo does not connect the voice dial software to the bluetooth headset, so instructions are not heard through the headset and the headset microphone is ignored for voice dialing.  Others have apparently had the same issue, from what I've seen posted in this forum and on other fora as well.
The only method I've heard of anyone successfully using a bluetooth headset for voice dialing with a Treo is to bypass the Treo Bluetooth Handsfree mode, purchase an extra bluetooth adapter meant to add bluetooth capabilities to non-bluetooth phones, and then pair the headset with that adapter.  This adapter typically costs $10-20, but is sort of big and must clip to your phone or to your belt.  This adapter plugs itself into the treo's headset jack and simulates a wired headset.  Apparently this mode works well, for yet more cost and additional bulk with makes it difficult to fit the phone into standard casings and/or take the phone out to work with the PDS without unplugging it.
One such adapter is the Cardo "Node" (http://www.cardowireless.com/node/434), but you can't buy it from their website anymore so I'm looking for other options.
I've heard that Jabra also has one, but I'm not sure of the model number, price, or form-factor.
Am I on track with this?  This just doesn't sound right to me.  I've seen postings that users have had this issue from the earliest Treo models, so I would have thought that Palm would have addressed it by now.  I've always thought of Palm as a reputable and responsive company, so I'm hoping I've missed the "silver bullet" solution.  Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks.
    Bob Smiley
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Sprint)

    I hope Palm is listening.
It was good to see others as frustrated as I am about the Treo’s glaring deficiency – kind of a support group.  I kept thinking I must be wrong because I traded up from a dumb phone and couldn’t believe my new palm is incapable of Bluetooth voice dialing.
The voice dialing companies all say it’s a problem with the Treos. I have asked the people at Palm and, though they are very nice, they haven't been able to help.  The people I spoke with didn’t seem to understand what I wanted and then spent a great deal of time trying to find the answer.  In the end, they confirmed:   you can get Bluetooth with a Treo, and you can get voice dialing with a Treo, but you can't get voice dialing over Bluetooth.  They didn't know if a solution was in the works.
I am really puzzled about this problem.  How hard can this be?  As Bob Smiley said, you can get a Bluetooth adapter to simulate a wired headset, and any one of us could superglue it to the Treo, but why?
It seems to me that this is such a basic function that, especially with all the upgrades, they should be able to fix it easily.  My impression is that no one at Palm is working on this and that no one is scheduled to work on this, but I hope I’m wrong.

    3 Intel 945GM Display Driver
    or
    3 nVIDIA G72MV-A3/NB7P-GS Display Driver

    23 TOSHIBA Speech System
24 TOSHIBA Extended Tiles for Windows Mobility Center V1.01
    25 TOSHIBA Fingerprint Utility V5.6.0.3221
I have already downloaded most of them but I can't find some like [2] Intel ICH7M Chipset Utility, [11] Intel Kedron Wireless LAN Driver, [23] TOSHIBA Speech System. Also some of the drivers are not installing properly.
Can you please help me out.

The chipset driver you can get on the Intel webiste
    www.intel.com
But I think the driver could also be in the display driver because its the same chip.
The WLAN driver I have found on the Toshiba website so download and install it.
The speech system could be integrated in the sound driver.
But download and install all drivers and the system will work.

  • Bluetooth on a nokia

I am trying to develop an app that uses bluetooth for my nokia 6102i phone, but I am having trouble figuring out whether or not that is even possible.
The reason I doubt the possibility of this is that my phone is not on the list of devices that have Jsr - 82 embedded in them. (http://www.javabluetooth.com/jsr82devices.html) I realize that this may not be required for bluetooth apps, but I honestly have no idea one way or the other.
Also, on the nokia developer website, they talk about Series numbers like S80 or S60 and the like, but my phone is only an S40. I'm honestly not exactly sure what that means, but here are the phone specs: http://forum.nokia.com/devices/6102i
In the section titled java technology in the above specs, it lists the following:
    MIDP 2.0
    CLDC 1.1
    JSR 120 Wireless Messaging API
    JSR 135 Mobile Media API
    JSR 185 JTWI
JSR 75 FileConnection and PIM API
    Nokia UI API
My guess would be that the JSR 120 provides bluetooth connectivity, but again, I'm not sure.
So, basically what I'm asking is whether or not it is possible to program an app for my phone that utilizes bluetooth connectivity, and if so, where a good place to start is.
    Thanks

No, there's no way to program bluetooth on this device. There's also no other possibility to program in any other language than Java.
If you consider buying an older, cheap device, I'd recommend the 6230i. You can program bluetooth applications for this device and due to the fact that it's quite outdated, it should be easily available for few money. All in all it's a quite nice device which doesn't make any trouble while programming (in comparison for motorola devices, e.g.).

  • HT1153 Bluetooth not pairing after update

I have a Macbook Pro running the latest update of Yosemite, 10.10.3. Prior to the update, my Bluetooth connections were spotty at best. Bluetooth devices don't always appear, and when they did appear, the connection would drop or not connect at all. Since I updated a few days ago, I can't connect to anything (my speaker close by doesn't even show up in Bluetooth preferences.) I've tried all the basic stuff, like removing devices and trying to readd them, turning Bluetooth off and back on, trying different devices (that work perfectly with my iPhone), and I've even tried resetting the PRAM and doing the Apple hardware test. I'm at wit's end. Anybody have any ideas? I'd be deeply in debt to whoever can get this darn thing working again.

Try downloading and installing the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Combo Update. You can also try:
Shut down your Mac, disconnect all USB devices for two minutes, start up, and re-connect your USB devices once again.
If you have Wi-Fi enabled try turning it off to see if BT starts working: AirPort and Bluetooth- Potential sources of interference.

  • Can i connect to bluetooth headsets to a mac mini?

I am trying to connect two motorola H730 bluetooth headsets two a mac mini for video presentations.  Basically what i am doing is teaching two different groups of people in two places using one computer. Is this possible?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
My back up plan was to connect each motorola H730 to a mac mini and an i mac, and treat them as two seperate computers for each location.
Hopefully i was able to articulate what i am trying to do as i am barely able to understand it myself.
    Thanks.

Ahum... You will have client again and it is much easier than you think it is.
I did want to upgrade to OS X Server (Mountain Lion), but that does mean I first had to install Mountain Lion. At this point there was no server application any longer as everything from Lion Server will be archived.
If you do not want to upgrade to OS X Server, just follow my upgrade path, but stop before downloading the Server app from the App Store... Simple...

  • Apple Bluetooth Headset - Paring with Windows and Other Questions

Love my new Apple Bluetooth Headset, works great. My first one did have a problem with poor range but this one is a lot better. I've been wanting to use the headset as a mic. Windows XP finds the headset find but I can't tell if it's connecting or not. How do I tell the Headset what device to connect to? It's paired to my iPhone too so it picks up on my iPhone every time I try to connect.
Basically how do scroll through on the Headset what devices to connect to? Usually Bluetooth Headsets can be paired with multiple devices and you do certain button combinations to scroll through the paired devices.

unlike some of the sony ericssons, the apple headset can only be paired with one phone at a time. that doesn't stop you from repairing it when need be, however...

  • IOS 7.0.2 has basically turned my iPhone 4s into a slow, studdering mess

Last week, I upgraded my new iPhone 4s from iOS 6.1.3 -->  iOS 7.0.2, WHAT A MISTAKE.  The PHONE is a STUDDERING MESS, sad, these DEVICES are expensive and APPLE should not ALLOW a MESS like this to be DEPLOYED.
First, why I updated.  First of all iOS 7.0.2 was Downloaded to the phone, yes all 762mb was downloaded to the phone without me saying it was OK to do that.  Frustrating!!   So really the only way to FREE up the SPACE, the download is using, is either to WIPE/ERASE the phone contents or INSTALL.
Since I didn't want to lose everything on the phone, same as most people.  I said let me install iOS 7.0.2, I trust apple to come out with a good product.
    BIG Mistake.
First of all its a 16gig iPhone 4s, of that i'm only using 2gig with apps and pictures, not a lot at all, I have 1 bluetooth connected device and my home wifi connection.  So the phone has 10+ gig FREE space
    very small resources to use
Take into consideration i have been using this phone for almost 1 year with iOS 6.1.3 happily, never had a single glitch, issue, restart or problem.
NOW to get to the ISSUES with iOS 7.0.2 on my iPhone 4s
1st I've had nothing but Problems, with BlueTooth, Just DROPPING for no reason, same connections I've always had.
I event deleted the connection re-added it, restarted the phone etc...
2nd.  out of the Blue the phone just Decides to RESTART ("APPLE LOGO Screen") and I have NO Tasks/Apps Running in the back ground, I always double-click the home button and shut down all running apps etc...
3rd When I now use blue tooth from my car or headset, it just studders, its like the phone can't even keep up to a normal conversation.  What use is a phone if it can't even serve the basic task of "Talking to Someone"
So I thought, OK, I'll download the IPSW File and re-install iOS 6.1.3, Nope, Apple is no longer signing iOS 6.1.3 on an iPhone 4s and so you can no longer reload to iOS 6.1.3
I had bought Apple devices in the past and have always been happy with them and trusted apple, NEVER AGAIN
I bought / switched everyone in our family to APPLE phones, iPads.  NEVER AGAIN.  I have invested quite a bit of money in apple, BUT NEVER AGAIN
APPLE YOU SHOULD ALLOW PEOPLE TO GO BACK TO iOS 6.1.3 - if the NEW iOS 7.0.2 is not working, VERY BAD Decision you made APPLE.
I AM VERY UNHAPPY and DISAPPOINTED in APPLE DEPLOYING THIS MESS to Consumers.

what doe you mean you tried "basically everthing?" Did you follow http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538?

  • Would Like To Buy A Bluetooth Digital Camera or Video Camera

I'm having a very hard time finding any type of camera that uses Bluetooth. Are there any? I basically just want to take good pictures and transfer them to my computer wirelessly. Would a Palm device be good for this? Help. Please...
I'm now starting to look at Palm device for the very first time. Can somebody please post a list of all Palm devices that have a built-in camera? From a quick search, it doesn't seem like there are many. Is there some master list of ALL Bluetooth devices (digital cameras, video cameras, Palm devices)?

Then you need/want a MacBook Pro with as much CPU & GPU as you can afford. The only models with a dedicated GPU are the 15" & 17". Also consider the antiglare screen, again only available with the 15" & 17" models. Both the MBA & 13" MBP would be poor choices for your intended use.

  • MacBook pro, snow leopard, iPhone and Bluetooth PAN problems

    Short Version:
I am having connectivity issues connecting my new MacBook Pro (MBP) to the Internet thru a Bluetooth PAN on my iPhone4. This has been working fine for a few days and then today it just stopped working responding that my iphone connection is not available, it's off, too far away or whatever. This is not the case. When I try to connect the iPhone to the MBP the iPhone is saying my MBP is not supported. I can pair the devices, but as soon as I try to connect to the Internet thru the iPhone via the MBP the connection fails.
    Long Version:
I received a shiny new MacBook Pro only a few days ago and I am having Bluetooth Paired networking issues as of today, 2nd, March, 2011. The MacBook Pro is running Snow Leopard 10.6.4, and is brand spanking new, unmodified, factory defaults.
The iPhone(s) I am using are iPhone 4's with iOS 4.1
On the first day I paired the MBP with both iPhones with ease, it was so easy my grandparents could have done it. So point and click and it just worked....
The iPhones are set up in iTunes with names similar to dave1 and dave2
On the MBP I can select which device I want to connect to the Internet by going to the Bluetooth icon and connecting to whichever iPhone I have handy at the time. Since the plans are limited connectivity, I do load share between the two.
Today, for no apparent reason, I have been unable to connect to my wife's phone just getting a basic "The Bluetooth network is unavailable" message telling me the iphone is out of range, not on, etc etc etc. Not true.
No problem, I just connected to my phone instead. Occasionally I tried her phone again, but it just never worked. I eventually got her to reboot it, still no joy.
Then, a couple of hours ago, while in the middle of reading my rss feeds, my Bluetooth connection dropped out. My phone is sitting right next to the MBP. So that's not the issue. No amount of reboots of either the MBP or the iPhone have fixed this. I have unpaired and repaired the devices (on both phones) countless times. I have removed the sim card and rebooted, I have disabled and reenabled Bluetooth on both, rebooting before doing this, and after and during, I have reset network settings. Nothing I try is working here.
Pairing alone is an event, but here's an example of what's happening:
I go thru the motions, the MBP shows me a number (eg, 451234) and the number is displayed on the iPhone. They see each other. The numbers are the same. Good. I click PAIR on the iPhone and MBP and everything appears good. But then if I go to connect to the iphone on the MBP I get the out of range error.
I have made both discoverable, and tried to connect to the MBP from the iphone, and got a different error message altogether: Connection Unsuccessful - "{insert my name}'s MacBook Pro" is not supported. W-T-F? It was an hour ago? What has changed?
Then, the only option on the iPhone is to "Forget Device". ok, forget it, and start again. Same same.
Neither the iPhones nor the MBP have been upgraded or changed in anyway today, or even recently. In fact, as mentioned earlier, I was actively using the connection without any issues for a number of hours when it just stopped for no apparent reason.
Not that these matter, but I am in Thailand (live here for the time being), I'm on the TrueMove network, which offers 3G coverage in my area (Patong Beach).
This could easily have been filed under MacBook Pro, iPhone, OSX and possibly many other discussion headings, because the issue can be any or all of the OS, the MacBook Pro Bluetooth adapter, the iPhone Bluetooth, (iOS for that matter), or some other unforeseen conditions...
My head is sore from pulling my hair out. I am open to any suggestions (reasonable or otherwise!)
For further info (not that this post is long enough already, or anything, but), I thought it was interesting that the phones didn't fail at the same time, so I pulled out an old iPhone 3GS and set it up, but after pairing, the two can still not connect.
I know its not an issue with the data plan on the iPhone since I'm here surfing now without an issue, so it's not a data problem.
    Open to ideas....
If you've read this far and you're ever in Phuket, give me a call... I'll shout you a beer

Ok, now I do wish I could edit....
I forgot to APPLY the network settings for the USB cable to work. Connected thru USB I can tether.
So, I kept playing, and playing some more...
I had previously unpaired everything, and gone as far as removing network devices HOWEVER...
I didn't remove the Ethernet, Firewire or Airport Network devices.
Now, I have done so. I REMOVED EVERYTHING
    No pairing, no network devices.
Bluetooth was already turned off, and I rebooted.
I turned off tethering and rebooted the iphone.
I turned on bluetooth (on the MBP), I turned on tethering. I browsed for the iphone. It said I was already paired???? Ok, repair AGAIN, and THE IPHONE SHOWED MY BLUETOOTH TETHERING BLUE BAR at the top of the screen!
I opened a web page, no go... d4mn, I was close...
Opened network preferences and the created a new bluetooth PAN and voila! Internet back on the MBP. I am about to reinstall the ethernet and airport (I can live without firewire for now) and see what happens.
Basically, the link I posted two posts ago, I had already done that, but I NEEDED to remove ethernet, firewire and airport as well...
So MAYBE it's fixed, we'll see for how long. I'm not going to mark this as answered for now, because basically, it has failed for no reason, and I want to know why...
Hopefully someone can come up with something, but having to delete and reinstall all pairings and network devices (to me) is not really a solution, it's a workaround (at best).
