Bluetooth connection between iPhone 4 and MacBook Air

How to enable bluetooth connection between iPhone 4 and MacBook Air?

I used to be able to connect my iPhone 4 with my 3 yr old MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. I used my iPhone's personal hotspot more then once to access the Internet on my laptop when there was no wireless. I don't get why it wouldn't work with my new MacBook Air. That just seems silly. My laptop found my iPhone and was able to add the device, but then my iPhone wouldn't connect. Is there really no way around this??

Basic question: Do you have a tethering plan with your carrier? It isn't automatically provisioned; you have to ask for it and pay extra with most carriers. See these tips from Apple:

  • Bluetooth connection between iPhone and MacBook Pro

Is it possible to browse files on my iPhone from my MacBook Pro (MacBookPro3,1 Serial Number  W873325SX94, OS X 10.9 (13A603)) via Bluetooth?

An iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7722
If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. The following may help with Handoff/Continuity issues: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5458

  • How do you easily switch Bluetooth headset between iPhone and MacBook Air

I Have a Bluetooth headset that can pair between my mac and my iPhone individually.  However I only want my phone when I'm out and when I get home, id like to click the Mac and pair the headset without having to set the Bluetooth into the "searching mode".
Wondering if anyone else is having this problem.

For this to work the Drafts Mailbox should be set to live on the server, not locally.
Check in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > [Your iCloud account] > Mail > Advanced > Drafts Mailbox

  • Having trouble with connecting my iphone and macbook air using bluetooth for internet tethering

    Hi,
I am facing an issue connecting my iPhone5 to my Macbook Air using bluetooth primarily for internet tethering - personal hotspot.
Every time I try to pair my iPhone with the Macbook Air, I get the error on the iPhone that 'the device that I am trying to connect is not supported'.
Can anyone provide assistance to me on resolving this issue.
    Thankyou,
    Ashwani

You can't resolve it using bluetooth because it is not a feature you can use here are the supported files for bluetooth http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3647
YOu will have to contact your carrier and enable personal hotspot as suggested by questionaire.

  • Testing Bluetooth connection between iPhone and MaxBook pro

    Hi everyone:
I'm testing the GKTank sample from the SDK for the purpose of learning how the Bluetooth connection can work between two iPhone/iPad devices. I do not have the second iPhone to test it with so at the moment all I have is my iPhone 4 and a MacBook Pro that runs GKTank app in a simulator.
But what happens is that when I fire both (the app on iPhone and on the simulator) the simulator always pops up a message that my iPhone was discovered (in the list for the GKPeerPickerController window) but my iPhone never does the same thing and its GKPeerPickerController window simply shows "Looking for other iPads, iPhones, or iPod touches..."
Can someone tell me why is that and if it is normal?

I get a similar result. I can initiate the game from the sim side and get an accept/decline on the iPhone4, but as soon as I accept the game ends on the sim side. Frankly, I didn't expect it to get that far.

  • WiFi connectivity between iPhone and MacBook Pro

    Hello.
I was wondering if someone can lend a hand, here. I looked at some of the other posts on a similar problem, but figured I'd just confuse the issue. Here's my problem.
I'm using a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro with 8GB and 1067 MHz DDR3. Running 10.8.2 I'm using a recording suite known as Digital Performer 7.24. I have an iPhone 4 with an app called DP Control, that talks to the recording software on the MacBook -or it's supposed to. The app basically has some of the keys on the MacBook software side of things like rewind, fast forward, record, pause etc. It allows you to step away from the laptop, and enable the laptop software. For example: If you're sitting at a drumset for instance, you can enable recording by hitting keystrokes on the iphone app, rather than hitting record on your laptop, and running back to the drumset -you get it. Anway, the laptop and the iphone don't talk to each other. I'm thinking this has something to do with my MacBook and not the app. I have an iMac that can see the app no problem. It's with the MacBook that i have the issues with. I contacted the software developer, but they couldn't help me. I even contacted the developer of the app itself, and to no avail. I figure this is something on the Mac side of things that hopefully someone here can help me with.
The app connects to the computer via wifi and NOT Bluetooth. So bluetooth has been disabled. I have also deactivated the firewall per the app's instructions, and to no avail. I'm guessing it has to do something with security settings somewhere, or some sort of deep-rooted permission thing. I don't know.
The only thing I can think of is that at one point, i did delete a user and had to start over with the whole admin privileges thing. I don't know if this would be significant or not.
    Thanks for reading!

Well, it seems like I fixed it by enabling port forwarding in advanced, enabling zero config in device directory, and then restarting both devices. Not sure exactly what it did, but now I can wifi sync. So I'm pretty happy!

  • TS2972 File Sharing Between iPhone and MacBook Air: Please Help

I have trouble retrieving a tone I created (in the Ringtone! App) and then put in the Tones tab in iTunes on my Mac. The syncing of my 4S and my Mac seems to go fine (no problems are flagged). But I do not see the tones on the iPhone after the syncing; I searched up and down the iTunes library. All updates are current.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

I have tried using the guest login but get the message "Access denied to this server, contact administrator". I can access the Air from my iMac but even though they are both running Mavverick some of the dialog boxes appear different. And thats even though I have enabled guest login on the iMac

Facetime between iPad2 and MacBook Air worked fine here in the USA.  The iPad2 is now in Rome, Italy and we can't connect internationally.  We both can hear the caller ringing in and can see who is trying to call, but after accepting the call we cannot connect.  No voice, no video. iPad is successfully sending and receiving eMails, but no Factime connection   What's up?

I am curious if possibly the hotel has some sort of VOIP block on.  Have you tried Skype?  Did you talk to the hotel staff?  My husband is traveling to Milan in a couple of days and I wonder if he will run into the same issue.  He has had no problems from Istanbul but he is staying in a corporate apartment there.  If you find an answer please post back.  Thanks

  • HT204291 Airplay Icon lost from both my iPhone and Macbook Air

I've lost the Airplay Icon from both my iPhone and Macbook Air, so I assume there's something up with my AppleTV setup (connected via LAN ).
Airplay was working fine until recently.I've checked all settings and they seem ok. Anyone any further ideas?
All other functions work ok, streaming video off the net , playing iTunes (installed on Macbook Air) from AppleTV etc
I've just lost Airplay from 2 devices.
AppleTV was updated in the last few days, but the Icon was lost before that.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Doug

    OK. Solved !
A simple reboot of my modem/router (the fibre one from BT - BT Infinity) fixed this for
both my iPhone and Macbook Air.
I can also mirror my iPhone screen to the AppleTV now too.
(mirroring only worked from my Macbook Air before)
That must be a new feature. Excellent !
I guess I should have tried that before, but maybe this will help someone
    Happy Easter
