Bluetooth connectivity loss in SL on MBP

I'm losing Bluetooth connectivity with keyboard and mouse when MB Pro goes to sleep. I have to restart to regain the connections. I also have noticed that the option to turn BT on and off from the menu bar status icon has gone away and I am left with a greyed out line of Bluetooth On. Is anyone else seeing this repetitiive and really annoying behavior? Is there a user implementable solution other than reboots?

Hi..,
I also suspect that it´s a class2 - but wanted to check - since I would like to use a Class 1 unit.
I checked with system_profiler from a terminal :
BRCM2046 Hub:
Product ID: 0x4500
Vendor ID: 0x0a5c (Broadcom Corp.)
Version: 1.00
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Apple Inc.
Location ID: 0x06100000
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 0
Bluetooth USB Host Controller:
Product ID: 0x8213
Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Inc.)
Version: 1.80
Serial Number: 00236CA80779
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Apple Inc.
Location ID: 0x06110000
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 0
That implies a bcm2046 chip - and I checked it a broadcom:
http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon-and-Software-Sol utions/BCM2046
I also checked with ioreg:
+-o Broadcom2045FamilyUSBBluetoothHCIController <class Broadcom2045FamilyUSBBluetoothHCIController, id 0x1000011c8, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (2 ms)$

| | | | +-o IOBluetoothHCIUserClient <class IOBluetoothHCIUserClient, id 0x1000014f9, !registered, !matched, active, busy 0, retain
That implies a bcm2045 chip..
I looked that up at broadcom:
<a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon- and-Software-Solutions/BCM2045
Other sites mentions that this chip can be class1,2 and 3 depending on design.
I don´t know what Apple did, and that´s the answer i+m looking for

  • Magic Mouse tracking poorly and losing Bluetooth connectivity since Mountain Lion upgrade

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I have experienced frequent and inconsistant tracking from my Magic Mouse. It will work fine and then out of no where, and without any connection to a particular app or process (that I can identify) it will begin stop moving or move in a very jittery fashion. I'm also experiencing Bluetooth connection loss with the mouse from time to time out of nowhere. I cleaned the mouse and even went to so far as to replace it with another, brand new Magic Mouse and have seen the same problem.
I have also tried resetting PRAM and SMC.
Anyone else experiencing this or a similar issue? Have any suggestions of things to try?
    Mac Pro (Early 2008)
    Processor  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  26 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8 (12A269)

Well , regarding of this issue i did some tests and i've reached to some conclusions to fix it.
    Steps
    1. turn off the magic mouse
    2. remove batteries
    3. put everything back and power on.
    4. pair your mouse again if you remove it from the tab
    5. leave the option discoverable marked down
    6. add to favorite from bluetooth menu (you will see a red heart with yes )
    7. should work for now
Test 1 : Mac mini 2010 with OSX Lion 10.7.4
Test 2 : MBA 2012 with OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.1
Conclusion : still have a bug not showing the right battery level (only 100%)but if you use "iStat" widget you will see the real level.
Magic mouse doesn't have, unfortunatelly the multipoint technology so if you use on multiple cpu in the same area can create instability (leave only one of a time and remove it from the bluetooth tab on other cpu)
I belive its working only using step 6, but to be sure

  • GSM connection loss on connect to bluetooth handsfree

    Hello,
I have a weird problem with my 3GS and my iPhone 4 on iOS 4.3 and 4.3.1 (on both hardware the same and on both OSes the same behaviour).
As soon as I connect to my Audi MMI Bluetooth connection (which worked just perfectly before iOS4.3) the GSM signal status turns to 0 - but the provider logo remains in the screen. I cannot call (no signal) or receive calls (are directed to my mailbox) - BUT I can surf the internet, get push notifications and mails.
To regain GSM connectivity I have to reboot the telephone! Just turning on and off flight mode or bluetooth etc. doesn't help.
Has anybody an idea what this could be?
    Regards,
    Peter

Thank you very much for your reply
after i finally got a hold of the isp (usless people i must say) and got them to try and fix to fix it on there side, when i connect wired to my router via my xbox i can stay connected for hrs without getting disconected.
however now that to an extent i ahve ruled out the isp. i then tryed to see if both my pc and xbox were at fault and got  another pc to try it out and that one also  disconected at the same time,
now that the connected has improved. however still not sure if the isp has done there job yet.
the troubling thing is that sometimes when the internet gets disconected from the internet i cant even ping my router or acces the router via HTTP although windows and my wireless network sizard says that it is
the only way i was able to reconnect was to turn off hte router and then back on again,
when it does it again i will jsut run the pc via wired and see if it makes a diffrence.
also i dont know that it would make much diffrence in it all but when  iwas constantly disconnecting i was also dissconteting from the router and it was showing almost as much packet loss as the isp servers.
also when i run a pingPlotter sample for a bit of time it generaly shows a Jitter of 5 and a 1-18ms ping to the router via wirelessly, the router is only about 7 meters away, the only thing i can think of is that its next to my speekers and tv and xbox,

  • Occasional loss of bluetooth connection with BMW or will not sync sometimes

there have been numerous times that my iphone either would lose it's bluetooth connection or will not sync with my bmw's bluetooth system. it has been necessary to turn off my iphone and turn it back on, then the bluetooth link syncs. does anyone know if this is a glitch in the iphone awaiting an update

I'm having the same problem except, I am using the iPhone and the new Bluetake bluetooth headset. Both the phone by itself and the headset by itself are fabulous however, I continue to lose the sinc between the two. Is anyone else having this problem and can help?

  • Bluetooth connection fails iOS 8.1

My iPhone5s cannot make a Bluetooth connectivity with any of my Macs(MBA mid-2013, iMac late-2012, MacPro) all running Yosemite 10.10. Prior to upgrading to Yosemite the same iPhone running on iOS 7 did make successful bluetooth connectivity. My iPhone5s is on 8.1. Surprising even though it cannot have connectivity, it sees and stay connected for a second or two and then will say "Not Connected". But the same phone connects with Blueant S4 handsfree Speakerphone - except that I have to make a connection each time. In the past, it used to connect automatically when I was in the range of my device.
Yes, I have tried reset PRAM, SMC resets on my Macs, powered OFF and ON my iPhone5s and even reset my NW connection. In addition, I have other iPhones in my family and none can make connection to Macs which run on Yosemite(tried 4s, 5 and even 6). But the same iPhones make successful BT on Macs running Mavericks and Mountain Lion(yes one MBP still exists). So I am guessing it is changes in Yosemite that is causing the problem. Because I am going through this problem - my family members who have Macs do not want to upgrade to Yosemite as they depend on BT connectivity for their external devices. I don't blame them, but sounds very silly to me that Apple messed up big time with BT connectivity. I see many reporting similar issues, but for many resetting PRAM and/or SMC they have been successful.
Any help would be appreciated. Again I am not referring to Handoff (which it is working for me) but I am interested in BT connectivity with Yosemite. This is important because external BT devices need to be connected(Headphones, Earbuds etc).

I went to the Apple store yesterday because I was having the same issue in my Honda Accord after I updated to iOS 8.1.1.  The very helpful rep there suggested that I go to Settings -> General -> Reset on my phone to reset my iPhone 5 General Settings.  She said that it's like an oil change for the phone that cleans out a lot of the junk.  After doing this, I was able to stream both my music and Pandora in my car again.
Note:  When you reset the General Settings, you will lose your phone password and background image (not a big deal).  You will NOT lose your pictures, video or emails.
    Hope that helps!

  • Ios 5.0.1 + Iphone 4 bluetooth connection issue with car stereo

My Iphone 4 will not connect with my new JVC car stereo I have spoken to JVC customer support and they say its an Apple issue that they need to fix (changed something with the bluetooth connection scripts in the latest update update, as they have done before).
The phone finds the stereo and then tries to pair with it, however half way through the pairing process the phone losses connection with the stereo and the pairing is then deleted.
I have deleted all the existing pairing in the phone memory and ensured that the stereo has been rebooted to ensure no conflict of previous installs would effect the process
Does anyone know if Apple are going to fix this glitch in a new softwre update (and if so when is it being released) as at the minute i have an expensive stereo which is cant use to its full ability?

Similar problems occured when Apple released iOS 4 last year. It was NOT fixed with an update from Apple. It was fixed by the system vendors and automakers releasing updates for their equipment. There are ongoing complaints from people with some Toyota built cars (Toyota and Lexus) with some systems as well as some BMW drivers.
I'm willing to bet money that the head unit you have is not fully standards compliant. Unfortunately, getting JVC to admit that is going to be nearly impossible. I suspect they will just quietly issue an update sometime in the next few months. Assuming the head unit can be updated by the end user at all.  You may have to resort to an inexpensive visor mount speaker phone in the mean-time.

  • Why do I have Intermittent Wifi Connection Loss during music streaming ?

    Hello,
I have an ipad3 and an iPhone 4S and I am getting with both devices interruption of the sound when I send music to the Apple TV. It generally happens after a few minutes. The signal for the wifi is still good and I have still access to the Internet  I have tried all the recommendations of the article "iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections" but this did not help. I have used several applications for sending music to the Apple TV (music application from Apple and DSAudio from Synology) but I'm getting the same issue. I have also the same issue with the media center application from Bouygues Telecom connecting directly to my internet router. My router is a bbox sensation. I had also the same kind of issue with my old router when sensing photo albums to the internet: I had the error message "your system is running low on ressources". How can I solve these intermittent wifi connection losses ?

    Try #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Macbook Pro bluetooth connection to iPhone 4.

I just purchased a Macbook Pro (latest edition) and it will not establish a bluetooth connection with my iPhone. Keep receiving the following error: The bluetooth network is unavailable... I check the phone and I have the bluetooth turned on. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Unfortunately, although you can Pair the iPhone with your MBP it only offers a limited range of functions and you can't connect to it as a network device. Don't ask me why Apple have crippled it this way ...
Mine connects happily to my GPS and two helmet headsets and, while it's been paired and shows:
    AVRCP Device
    Audio Source
    Handsfree Gateway
    PAN Network Access Point
    Phonebook
    PnP Information
    Service Discovery
    Wireless iAP
It always comes up "Blutooth Network Not Available" when I try and connect.
You should be able to pair if you run Bluetooth setup Assistant though ?
If you're after 'tethering' i.e using the iphone as your Internet access then this is dependent on your ISP allowing/enabling it. On the iPhone open Settings/Network and turn Personal Hotspot On and it will show you the password for connection. On the MBP (System Preferences/Network) you will then see 'yourname's iPhone' as a connection option for your current location and you can enter the password there - but be aware that carrier data charges and plan limits will apply! My 2GB mobile plan data gets eaten very quickly this way.

  • How do I resynchronize my iPhone and MacBook Pro bluetooth connection?

I accidentally had my iPhone "forget" my MacBook Pro bluetooth connection, and I need it to reappear to resynchronize. My iPhone shows up as discoverable on my MacBook Pro, but it is not connected. When I have my bluetooth on on my iPhone 4S, the MBP doesn't appear in the list of my bluetooth devices.

You can sync using iTunes  >   iOS: Syncing your data with iTunes  (via USB)
Or wirelessly using iCloud >  Apple - iCloud - All your content on all your devices.

  • The 10.10.2 update has introduced bluetooth connectivity issues.

The 10.10.2 update has messed up my bluetooth connectivity. I know this update was intended to resolve connectivity problems. However, before the update I was not experiencing any issues. Now, my bluetooth drops connectivity -- can't keep my Magic Mouse online. Please Help; is there any way to uninstall 10.10.2? Thanks.

I'm having the same issue. Since 10.10.2, my Apple Magic Mouse will only connect if I reboot my MBP. I typically leave my MBP running in my office and switch off my mouse at night. In the morning, I cannot reconnect unless I restart my MBP. Never had such an issue prior to 10.10.2.
Apple... I switched from Windows 5-6 years ago because I simply couldn't stand the bugs and sloppy user experience that was Microsoft's hallmark. I'm sad to say I've experienced all the same (possibly worse) since Lion and beyond. Snow Leopard was the last "solid" OS I remember. The rest bring back Microsoft flashbacks..
Apple. PLEASE get it together man! I shutter at the prospect of switching back to Windows, but I am thoroughly annoyed with you!

  • My internet connection is intermittent with my MBP but it's fine with my iPad. What's up with that?

My internet connection is intermittent with my MBP but it's fine with my iPad. What's up with that?

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

I have a MacBookPro 5.5 and an iPad 2 32GB 3G; both items are pretty recent.
Today I tried connecting them via blootooth. MBP states "pairing success" (only after NUMEROUS attempts!!!) whereas the iPad seems to be still searching and indicates the MBP as "not connected". That over and over.
Also, the iPad does not seem to recognize ANY bluetooth device in the house (they ARE discoverable since my MBP DOES "see" them) like, for instance, my mini-Mac.
Any help would be appreciated; (I hope the problem lies NOT in the bluetooth antenna, in other words not in hardware.)
P.S. The MBP seems fine since it DID connect to Mac-mini.

    Hello:
Was the iPad paired with another device?  If so, you need to "unpair" it from the previous device.  Bluetooth devices may be connected with only one thing at a time.
