Bluetooth Fried?

I have a somewhat unique situation. I don't get to travel as much as I used to, so I am mainly using my PowerBook as a desktop computer, connected to an external display, mouse, keyboard, cooling pad, the whole bit. I also removed the battery, so it is only powered by the adapter. Earlier today, while I was at work, there was a power flicker/surge/outage at home. My computer appeared to have automatically rebooted itself, but the Bluetooth was gone. The menubar icon showed Bluetooth with a zigzag line through it, there was no preference pane for Bluetooth, and System profiler shows "No Information Found." How can this be fixed? I had a logic board and DC-in board repair last year to fix a similar problem with Airport.

Fixed itself after a couple of reboots.

  • No USB, iSight, Bluetooth, keyboard (water damage)

This is a peculiar problem, as I have not been able to find anyone else experiencing the same thing. I have a 2006 MacBook Pro. A few months ago, I spilled a bit of water on it (I know, I know...shame on me). Shut it off for a few days. When I powered on, everything worked fine except the S, Z, M, left apple, and left option keys. After a few more days, they all quit. Then would come back on making random characters and typing nonsense characters without touching it. Then would work fine (with the exception of the previously mentioned keys). This repeated for a while. Soon the USB went out. Next the iSight and the Bluetooth. The keyboard has now stopped functioning completely.
The odd thing is...the trackpad works fine, and the backlight is functioning normally. I can use a keyboard via USB, but it won't send enough power to turn lights on (caps lock, num lock). They will not recognize an external hard drive, or iPhone. However, upon booting, it will send a brief charge to an iPhone, then stop. I'm guessing it is a logic board problem, but I was wondering if anyone knows what the culprit could be if not. If so, is there a way to fix it?
In short, keyboard, USB, iSight, and Bluetooth, not working. Trackpad, backlight, FireWire, and everything else functions normally.

The only way to get everything up and running is to take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run diagnostics on it. It's likely that you fried some part of the logic board with your liquid spill and it will likely take a logic board replacement to 'fix' everything. While it might be quite expensive, you could always ask about the Apple Flat-Rate Repair Pricing scheme - maybe you can get the whole computer serviced for less than $350.

  • How to DIY-repair fried USB ports on Mac mini?

Accidentally I fried (or so it seems) all the four USB ports of a Mac mini 2 GHz Core 2 Duo 2 Ghz 2 GB 160 GB SuperDrive AirPort Extreme Bluetooth (released by Apple on August 2007) with Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. It was after connecting an iPhone AD/DC to power a USB hub.
I can access the machine using a wireless keyboard but the USB keybord or any other USB device is not recognized when plugged into the USB ports of such Mac mini.
I know that I can carry the Mac mini to a repair service or switching the main logic board, but it costs more than the current price of the machine!
I was thinking of some kind of DIY, even if it requires soldering... Any ideas to replace the fried USB ports with new ones?
Note: the USB ports and main logic board seem OK after visual inspection, but I guess that the former are fried since resetting the PRAM and SMC did not work.
    Thanks.

DIY soldering repairs are pretty much out of the question.
Most, if not all, IC's that would be related to the problem
are of the BGA (ball grid array) variety and require special
equipment to remove and replace as all the connections
    are under the IC.
The only DIY alternative would be to purchase a logic board
and replace it yourself.  Just Google "mac mini logic board
replacement" for sources and how to's.  Apple themselves,
will not sell you logic boards, so you need to get it from a
third party vendor.  As to which ones are are the most reputable,
I cannot really say.  I would suggest avoiding any Ebay offers
    that are not reputable retailers.
As usual, be aware that if a price on such an item is too
good to be true, it probably isn't.

  • Closed lid with Bluetooth Mouse

I would like to use my powerbook with the lid closed. I know to do this, you have to have a mouse and display connected before closing the lid, otherwise the powerbook will just go to sleep.
If I buy and use the Bluetooth mouse for this purpose, will it work, or does it have to be a corded mouse?
Also, if it will work, can I then turn the Mouse off when not using it, and then turn it back on to start working again or will the computer go to sleep when the mouse if turned off?
    Thanks,
    Bob

Yes a bluetooth mouse will work for this. All you have to do is first pair the mouse with the computer and connect the display. Then close the PowerBook to put it to sleep. Then just click the mouse to wake your computer back up. I would recommend an external keyboard as well, unless you have something else up your sleeve.
For you second question your PowerBook will not go to sleep when a bluetooth mouse or keyboard (or both) are turned off. They will simply not be functional but will reconnect after turning them on.

In your case, I would simply do a #8 Reinstall OS X, that will wipe out all third party at boot kernel extension files and give you a nice clean new OS X free of corruption. This way it also clear ones your not using anymore.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Then I would see if the machine ran fine like that (minus some programs of course without their kernel extensions) with no KP's, if there are some more then it's one of the other programs your using currentl and reintall those.
If everything is fine, check for updates for those programs with at boot kernel extensions and install them one at a time carefully and seee when your problem returns.
Also run further through the Steps to eliminate any other issues.

  • Fried USB ports?

Hi - new user here. Wondering if anyone can shed light on a problem:
Just moved house, and have been setting up iMac. However, when I tried plugging in my Belkin USB port expander, and then plugging in applications to that device, the Mac told me the USB was overdrawing power (hadn't seen that message before).
Since then, none of my USB ports work, which means I can't use the keyboard or the mouse. Also, upon restarting the machine, it tried to find a Bluetooth mouse. Maybe it can't find the regular one, so figured it should look for a remote device.
Can anyone help? If I have fried my ports, if there any succour to be had?
    Thanks a million in advance....

Sorry to hear of your problem. I assume you unplugged the port expander and then tried plugging just the keyboard in to your Mac with the mouse plugged in to the keyboard? If so, did you try using different ports? Imacs have 2 or 3 USB ports depending on the model so you want to try each one. Make sure to just try just the keyboard and mouse with nothing else connected even if anything else connected is powered off. I don't know how it would automatically try to find a bluetooth mouse unless bluetooth was turned on so you might just want to turn bluetooth off for now until you figure out whether you fried your USB ports or not.

  • Imac 24" - 2008 with yosemite - bluetooth issue?

    Hello everyone,
My computer was working fine after downloading yosemite, but all of the sudden (I haven't installed any software or hardware prior to this issue)
I have received this panic report a couple of times after attempting to run a diagnostic by holding "D" (it didn't work)
The reason why I tried running this diagnose is because my bluetooth is out of commission and my booting time is anywhere from 2.5 - 5 minutes.
I'm able to see the bluetooth icon, but i cannot turn it off or pair to anything. I have deleted the plist file and I also did the "pvram" (spelling) and another reset and didn't work.
could someone take a look at this report and Hopefully shed some light on the issue?

    Any suggestions, anyone???

  • Wi-fi and bluetooth are not working any more on my iPhone 4s after I updated it to 7.0.4

    Dear all,
Since  Friday morning the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth of my iPhone 4S have not been wirking any more. They appear as "unactive". I restored the system, updated it to 7.0.4., but nothing changed. Can anyone please help me?
    Thankful in advance,
    Kind regards,
    Fraya Frehse

Last night I wiped the phone and did a complete restore.  Lo and behold the wifi was working again after the restore finished.  GREAT.  30 minutes later went to look at the phone and no wifi again, great!
So if my wifi chip coincidentally fried itself during the update, I supposed it coincidentally unfried itself during the restore, only to fry itself again later.  Clever chips these.

  • Driver for the bluetooth board on my NW9440 for Windows 7

I just upgrade it to Win 7 and the bluetooth board is not recognize by Windows, it was working on XP and vista.
The HP part number of the board is 409993-001
Or if I can find a replacement.
    Thanks.

After upgrading from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Enterprise (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601), I cannot find working drivers for my ethernet controller. The desktop is a HP Pavillion, Model No. p6710f. I located the drivers on HP's website <http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-89905-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5049513&sw_lang=>,
but Windows 7 Enterprise is not listed as compatible. Compatibility list:
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Basic (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-bit),
    Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise are essentially the same with regard
to their software. Only the license is different. So if it's
compatible with Ultimate, it's also compatible with Enterprise.

Following this post https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167210 I thought it might have something to do with the kernel? I tried to downgrade kernel from 3.11 to 3.10 an then to 3.9 without resolving the issue.

    [root@luke pkg]# pacman -Qo /lib/udev/hid2hci
    /lib/udev/hid2hci is owned by bluez-utils 5.9-1
    [root@luke pkg]# find /var/cache/pacman/pkg -name 'bluez-*'
    /var/cache/pacman/pkg/bluez-utils-5.7-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    /var/cache/pacman/pkg/bluez-5.9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    /var/cache/pacman/pkg/bluez-libs-5.7-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    /var/cache/pacman/pkg/bluez-firmware-1.2-7-any.pkg.tar.xz
    /var/cache/pacman/pkg/bluez-libs-5.9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    /var/cache/pacman/pkg/bluez-utils-5.9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    [root@luke pkg]# sha1sum /lib/udev/hid2hci
    937659778fc90263e3e5d00baa01653273f1f5c8 /lib/udev/hid2hci
    [root@luke pkg]# /lib/udev/hid2hci --devpath devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.3/usb5/5-1 --method csr
    error: could not find 'devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.3/usb5/5-1'
    [root@luke pkg]# pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/bluez-libs-5.7-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    [root@luke pkg]# systemctl daemon-reload
    [root@luke pkg]# systemctl restart bluetooth
    [root@luke pkg]# /lib/udev/hid2hci --devpath devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.3/usb5/5-1 --method csr
    error: could not find 'devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.3/usb5/5-1'
So still no clues.... but I think it's related to hid2hci not able to switch mode, I would like to test with bluez-utils < 5.7 but don't have that package at hand, will try to boot from an older install CD just to be sure what the old behavior of hid2hci was and confirm that it should work.

  • Bluetooth Headphone MFB and OS7

Well this is weird, but I think since the OS7 something happened because I have 2 different Bluetooth Headphone. Before I had the Torch 9800 and I was using one of the Bluetooth and no problem at all during 2 yr, it worked like a charm. Then after I switched to the 9810 and I don't remember when exactly this started, (I don't remember if after I bought the phone the MFB was working or not) all of the sudden the MFB (Play/Pause/Answer button) stopped working. If I'm listening to music it doesn't pause or play, curiously I can answer phone calls but I can not end the phone calls, the volume -  +  and the next back button are OK for both media and phone. But not even the voice dialing is working command over the headset. My first thoughts were "the headset is fried or something must have happened" so I got another headphone same Bluetooth functionality, paired and....again same problem as before. I've checked all over the internet looking for a solution
-Deleted both profiles and re-paired the Bluetooth again.
    -Checked Bluetooth services all marked.
-My Bluetooth does work in other devices
-Not long ago I performed a reset and backed up only contacts and msgs.
Please if any1 can throw a light into this matter, maybe I'm missing some configuration (more likely).

    Dear all,
Since  wednesday  morning the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth of my iPhone 4S have not been wirking any more. They appear as "unactive". I restored the system, updated it to 7.0.4., but nothing changed. Can anyone please help me?

Last night I wiped the phone and did a complete restore.  Lo and behold the wifi was working again after the restore finished.  GREAT.  30 minutes later went to look at the phone and no wifi again, great!
So if my wifi chip coincidentally fried itself during the update, I supposed it coincidentally unfried itself during the restore, only to fry itself again later.  Clever chips these.
