Bluetooth hardware failure, cause by using a usb bluetooth adapter

My laptop is MBP 13" early 2011,  after using a usb bluetooth adapter( built-in bluetooth had compatiblity problem with my mobile phone) and unplug it,  and then found the built-in bluetooth is not working any more, it can search devices, but it won't establish connections or pair with other devices.  At firs I thought it was the bluetooth driver or configuration problem, I try to reset factory setting using the develper tool Bluetooth Explorer,  then reset kext file, even tried installing a new lion,  but the problem remains.  So I think it's not driver/configuration problem now, it's hardware failure, but wait.. just caused by using other usb bluetooth adapter?  I really can't understand why apple will let such thing happen....

it turns out the hardware is fine , the problem is solved after resetting SMC : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • Can I use a usb bluetooth adaptor with mac pro which already has bluetooth?

    Hi All,
I have an early 2008 Mac Pro. I have a bluetooth sound device that I'd like to use across the other side of the house. The problem is that the in-built bluetooth transceiver is limited in area and i have a usb transceiver that has 15m broadcast range. Is there a way i can make my Mac Pro use the usb dongle and not the internal hardware..?

You can disable the internal bluetooth radio. As long as you have drivers for your USB Bluetooth adapter you should be able to use it.

  • How do I setup my MacBook Pro (2009) as a wireless access point for all my wireless device to access the Internet using a USB wireless adapter?

I connect to the Internet with a USB Super Antenna from CCrane.
I want to establish a network on my Mac to allow my other wireless devices to use the USB connection at the USB.
    Any ideas?

Yes, that would work, however it would cost me $2000 for the monitors.

  • Can I use a USB wireless adapter with my iMac G4 Flat Panel (it has no Airport card).

I have just salvaged an iMac G4 15-inch Flat Panel from the skip and now have it running Mac OS X Tiger 10,4. It has a 700mhz cpu, 80Gb hard drive and 512mb of Ram. No airport card is fitted so I was wondering if a USB wireless adapter could be used instead. I have a Belkin F5D8055ea USB wireless adapter fitted and the system recognises the device, this is as far as I have got as I am a complete novice on Apple/Mac machines. Anyone any ideas please?

If the device is recognised, see if you can located your wi-fi network using Airport Utility.

  • Can't get my mail when use the USB Ethernet adapter

I can't get my mail when use the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter. If I use a wireless connection, there is no problem. The LAN which I'm trying to connect is behind a proxy server but the Internet is working 100%.

    Hi ViK,
This sounds like a question for the network administrator of the location. Without knowing how the proxy is set it's impossible to know what it's blocking (incoming/outgoing). It sounds like it might be filtering the incoming mail server.

  • Can I use any USB-Ethernet adapter, or do I need to buy the Apple part?

I'm about to get an Air and do the migration from my old PowerBook.  Can I use the Netgear USB-Ethernet adapter for the Air, or do I need to buy a new Apple part?

Little update for the usb to ethernet adapter is in order. Both adapters are producing Gigabit ethernet max. Keep in mind that new macbook air has the usb 3 version ports at 5 Gigabit internal speed where Thunderbolt has 10 Gigabit per chanel internal capacity. In ether case more than suficient to provide Gigabit ethernet output. Nither one will push more than that out to the ethernet. In my case the decission was made by availability. I wanted the thunderbolt adapter for the sake of keeping up with the technology but there was none on the shelf.
    Just my two cents

  • Other uses of USB Power Adapter

I have a Toshiba Gigabeat F40, which can charge through the USB port. Can I use the Ipod USB power adapter (M9837LL/A) to charge it?

I ran across a blog recently where they compared charging the iPhone via USB power adapter vs computer and the adapter charged twice as fast. I didn't bookmark it unfortunately and I have no idea why that would be as both should comply to the USB standard.
    Firewire chargers do not work

It appears to work with the entire iPod line but oddly doesn't mention anything more then 2 years old so perhaps there is some DRM weirdness going on.

I've never heard of anybody damaging equipment via USB charging unless there was some case grounding issue.

  • Can't recharge using iPod USB power adapter

My 2nd gen iPod shuffle will recharge ok when plugged into the USB port of my Mac, but when I plug it into an iPod USB power adapter it won't recharge, the indicator light does not light up, and if I turn the power on the light turns to amber for a couple of seconds then goes blank.

This sounds like your iPod USB Power Adapter is malfunctioning... does it charge other iPods?

  • Driver Install Failure (Bluetooth Device: Broadcom BCM20702A0/Kinivo 4.0 USB Bluetooth Adapter)

About a week ago I purchased the Kinivo BTD-300 4.0 USB Adapter from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Kinivo-BTD-400-Bluetooth-4-0-adapter/dp/B007Q45EF4). When I go into the control panel it shows up as a Broadcom device. I have ran the software available on the disk and installed it multiple times and downloaded drivers straight from the Kinivo and Broadcom website and installed both of those to no avail. I have successfully connected my phone with the device, but since then it has shown up with the troubleshooting symbol. I have also ran the Microsoft Fixit and HP Troubleshooter which both came up as a driver error, but when downloaded it would come up as "Driver install failed". I've tried all of these steps multiple time with the error everytime. Any possible fix or advice would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    JJ H

    Hello @leafgreen7,
I understand that you are having issues getting the Kinivo BTD-300 4.0 USB Adapter to work on your HP Pavilion HPE h8-1124 Desktop PC running Windows 7 and having no luck. As it is the driver that will not install I would advise you to contact Kinivo at their Support Site as they will have more specific information on what can interfere with their drivers installing.
I hope  this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • USB Bluetooth adapter stops working after 10.8.5 upgrade

For several months I've been using an IOGear USB Bluetooth adapter and a USB KVM to share my Magic Trackpad between a Mac Mini and a MBP, both machines happily running 10.8.4.
Tonight I upgraded my MBP to 10.8.5 and now Bluetooth is apparently disabled when I have the USB adapter plugged in:
Now I'm left with the unappealing decision of using my Trackpad with only my Mac Mini, my MBP, or constantly repairing it with either to share.
I've been shockingly happy with this little trick, but I guess it was too good to last. Anyone have any ideas why using a USB Bluetooth adapter would stop working? Maybe I need a different adapter now?

Thanks! That solved my problem. I just had to swap in my device id which was different than yours.
I converted my USB adapter's idProduct value from hexidecimal (0x2101) into decimal (8449) and added this configuration:
                        <key>BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController_Dongle - IOGear2</key>
                        <dict>
                                  <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>

                                  <key>IOProviderClass</key>
                                  <string>IOUSBDevice</string>
                                  <key>idProduct</key>
                                  <integer>8449</integer>

    Bluetooth HCI:

  • K1 - Using the USB Host Connector

Using the USB host adapter and thumb drives with some file managers on the K1:
    [K1 preloaded] File Mgmt. -
Couldn't find the USB memory. It also couldn't find a micro sd card in the side slot. Has someone else had success with this?
    File Manager HD -
USB memory shows under the Storage Shortcut (upper left corner of screen). However, if a micro sd card is also in the K1, either that or the usbdrive shows. I've seen it either way, and I haven't been able to find the other. In any case, the "Up" button will show storage items including  usbdrive.
    Dual File Manager XT -
Click "back arrow" (screen lower left) to see all drives.
    AntTek Explorer -
Click on "mnt", then select usbdrive, or click "back arrow" as above.
I've had to reboot a few times in the midst of trying different apps and different USB memory devices. I haven't figured out a pattern. Most of the time things just work. I try to remember to unmount drives before unplugging them.
