Bluetooth Headset on a Mac and PC

Hey Folks,
I haven't used Bluetooth that much before, but I'm about to take a deeper plunge because I want to use Skype with a wireless headset, among other things. The machine I'll be adding this to is a Quicksilver 2002.
I'm already quite aware that the only well-known and easily obtainable Bluetooth adapter that is guaranteed to work with OS X for headsets is the D-Link DBT-120, and that in most cases, in order to enable the headset support, you must apply Apple's Bluetooth firmware updater. I'm clear on that.
However, what I also understand is that once you apply Apple's updater, the adapter will no longer be usable on a Windows machine. Has anyone been able to get a DBT-120 with upgraded firmware to work on a Mac and a PC, or is the only choice to buy separate adapters, one for your Macs and one for your PCs?
Also, does anyone have any good suggestions for Bluetooth headsets that will work with Skype? I've heard a lot of good things about the Jabra BT series, the Motorola HS series, and the Logitech Mobile series. Are those pretty much the top three models of affordable Bluetooth headsets? Any others I should consider?

Using a headset needs several steps even needed if you have the latest computer or Mac OS X release. Please make sure to follow them in order.
Download the Apple Bluetooth Firmware Updater
Install it
Launch it from Applications > Utilities > Bluetooth Updater
Apply it to your adapter (takes very long).
Start the Apple Bluetooth Assistant and select Headset. Do not use anything else!
Make your headset Bluetooth visible. Look up the manual of your headset how to do that.
Now select the headset in System Preferences > Sound.
In most cases step 3 is missed. You have to start the already installed updater yourself (do not ask me why). Step 4 fails if your Bluetooth USB adapter is not supported by Apple and you have to go for a D-Link DBT-120 USB adapter.

  • Can i connect to bluetooth headsets to a mac mini?

I am trying to connect two motorola H730 bluetooth headsets two a mac mini for video presentations.  Basically what i am doing is teaching two different groups of people in two places using one computer. Is this possible?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
My back up plan was to connect each motorola H730 to a mac mini and an i mac, and treat them as two seperate computers for each location.
Hopefully i was able to articulate what i am trying to do as i am barely able to understand it myself.
    Thanks.

Ahum... You will have client again and it is much easier than you think it is.
I did want to upgrade to OS X Server (Mountain Lion), but that does mean I first had to install Mountain Lion. At this point there was no server application any longer as everything from Lion Server will be archived.
If you do not want to upgrade to OS X Server, just follow my upgrade path, but stop before downloading the Server app from the App Store... Simple...

Is it possible to attach a bluetooth speaker to my mac and still use the mac's speakers at the same time, so I can have music in two rooms (from the mac in the lounge and the  bluetooth speaker in the kitchen? It seems to be a choice of either/or as when I pair my speaker the sound stops from the mac's speakers.

    No.

  • Bluetooth headset for MacBook pro and iPhone

Is there a recommended Bluetooth headset I can pair with my iPhone and MacBook pro and do things like:
    iPhone:
    Take call
    Listening to music and podcasts
    MacBook Pro:
    Listening to music and podcast
    Skype calls
    Google Voice calls
    Face time
    YouTube
    Etc...
At the same time it would need at least 8 hours of talk and or play time battery.
Has somebody built such thing? If not we should do a kickstarter...
    Thank you for your recommendations

    Try to look at: http://www.jabra.com/
The ones compatible with the iPhone work with Skype too on a Mac, I don't know about other services.
    Bye

  • Apple Bluetooth Headset - Paring with Windows and Other Questions

Love my new Apple Bluetooth Headset, works great. My first one did have a problem with poor range but this one is a lot better. I've been wanting to use the headset as a mic. Windows XP finds the headset find but I can't tell if it's connecting or not. How do I tell the Headset what device to connect to? It's paired to my iPhone too so it picks up on my iPhone every time I try to connect.
Basically how do scroll through on the Headset what devices to connect to? Usually Bluetooth Headsets can be paired with multiple devices and you do certain button combinations to scroll through the paired devices.

unlike some of the sony ericssons, the apple headset can only be paired with one phone at a time. that doesn't stop you from repairing it when need be, however...

  • I'm trying to connect a BlueTooth headset to my Mac Mini. I can discover it, but soon after discovery it disconnects. Can't figure out how to reconnect. My only option seems to be re-discovery

I can discover the headset, but soon after discovery it disconnects. Haven't been able to figure out how to try to re-connect. And the help section titled "Use BlueTooth has absolutely no information on how to use it. All I can do is re-discover it. Every time I rediscover it, it disconnects shortly afterward. This headset works well with both my iPhone and iPad and has for quite some time. But it won't stay connected to my Mac.

Tried with another headset that works fine with iPhone and iPad. An LG HBS700. Same problem. It connects for maybe 10 seconds and then disconnects. So it must be a problem on the Mac. But this Mini is out of warrentee so taking it into an Apple store to get it repaired isn't a good solution. Maybe as a last resort.
Is there a way to select connect on the Mac? Everything else I've connected a BlueTooth device to has both a command for pairing and a command for connecting or reconnecting. I can't figure out how to select connect on the Mac.

  • TS3048 I am usng a bluetooth keyboard with my Mac and some of the keys are not working.  They are the numbers 1 through  9.  I have gone through the troubleshooting for mouse and keyboard and everything looks good. How can I get them to work again?

Hi,  I am using a Mac computer that my husband set up.  I have worked on it recently with no problems.  Today, I am having problems with the bluetooth keyboard not  working properly.  The numbers 1 through 9 do not work.  I have gone through troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues and everything looks good.  Except, when I check the keys on the keyboard viewer, these keys still do not work.  The webpage guides me through and at this point I do not know what to do next, because the keyboard is still not working properly.  I sure hope there are some experienced people in the community to help me.  What should I do?

    Hi:
I wish my suggestion had gotten you further.
I do suggest you try to connect the keyboard again.  The request for a number is a step in it trying to pair.  If it gets by the number, it sometimes takes a little while to get connected.  If you are unable to get it connected and want a new one, I have been using Apple Bluetooth keyboards for years - and I like them. The one I have (the newest model) only uses two batteries and is very thin.
Speaking of batteries, if you are not already doing so, you might consider rechargeables.  I have a drawer full of them and use a 15 minute charger.  I go tired of buying batteries and rechargeables are environmentally friendly to boot. At the moment, I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger (all purchased new on eBay at a very reasonable price).
I am far from an iPad "expert," although I have one.  If my suggestion below does not help, post your question in a separate thread in the iPad forum.
I had a terrible time syncing my iCal on my Mac with my iPad iCal (confusing - hopefully it makes sense).  I quit using iCloud as that added to the confusion. There is a facility to one-time sync items.  When you connect your computer to your iPad, iTunes opens.  The system begins a process (automatic backup and so on). After it finishes, you can click on "info."  At the bottom of the screen, there is an advanced section.  You can select any of the items and then force it to sync. The iCal information from your computer would be deposited on the iPad.
After all that, I do not use a Google calendar so the information may be worthless to you.
If you want to reset the iPad to factory settings, you can do that when it is connected to iTunes (one of the options).  Me being me, I try never to erase anything.

  • Use one Bluetooth microphone with both Mac and Windows 7

I would like to use a single Bluetooth microphone for dictation on the Mac side and on the Windows side. However, although I can get the microphone to work under both Snow Leopard (using DragonDictate) and Windows 7 (using Dragon NaturallySpeaking), I find that I must re-pair the microphone each time I switch operating systems.
Does anyone know of a way around this?

I had a mini which i used on both my powerbook at home and my pc at work. now with my new 30gb ipod, when trying to use at work I only have the option to re-format thus loosing all my music?? could you explain linux? (if that's a way to do it)
    thanks
In short, no, you can't. An iPod formatted for Mac
can't be read by Windows, and a Windows Pod can't be
used by iTunes in Mac. You have to choose, or use
    Linux.

  • Can I share a bluetooth headset with my iPhone 4 and my Mac?

Can I share a bluetooth headset with my iPhone 4 and my Mac? I don't mean both at the same time. I just think it's silly to buy a separate headset for each. I'd like to be able to sometimes use the headset with my Mac and other times use it with my iPhone. Is this possible? How hard is it to set up and is it annoying to switch over from one to the other.
The headset would be used 75% of the time with my iPhone.

Contacts can be synced direct with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 via the iTunes sync process along with syncing calendar events, notes, and reminders. This is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
If you don't use Outlook for contacts - your Outlook address book is empty, before the first sync for this data enter one contact in the Outlook address book. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data.
Or if your iPhone 4 is running iOS 6, you can create your hotmail account using the hotmail account preset with the iPhone's Mail app per the instructions included with this link. If your iPhone 4 is not running iOS 6, you will need to manually create the account as an Exchange account.
    http://www.wikihow.com/Sync-a-Hotmail-Account-on-an-iPhone
Regardless if you have any contacts available in your hotmail online address book, you should be provided a merge prompt when turning contacts on for over the air syncing with your hotmail account settings on the iPhone, which you want to select. This will merge your existing iPhone contacts with your hotmail online address book and merge your hotmail online address book with your iPhone contacts.
To have the contacts available on the iPhone 5, create your hotmal account with the Mail.app on the iPhone 5 followed by turning contacts on for over the air syncing with the account settings on the iPhone.
Or after syncing your iPhone 4 contacts direct with your Outlook address book, sync your Outlook contacts with the iPhone 5.

  • Motorola H300 bluetooth headset and 3.0

I have a Motorola H300 bluetooth headset. It pairs and shows as connected with my Iphone 3G S. However, it works only with the phone. I understood that the new 3.0 OS would allow bluetooth devices to work with the IPod functions also. Am I correct? Any suggestions as what may be wrong?

I have a hands free earpiece headset I've been using for months. It would stay connected and in standby mode until a call came in — one touch and it would answer a call. I recently got a Insignia stereo Bluetooth headset in anticipation of 3.0 and they work great.
The problem is my hands free earpiece headset also picks up the stereo from the iPod. This headset, will no longer go into standby because it's always connected. I can't listen to my iPod in my car and keep the earpiece on standby as in the past. I now have to completely shut off the earpiece just to listen to music through my car stereo. When a call comes in I have to boot up the earpiece. This takes longer, and while driving, more distracting.
Any ideas on how to keep the iPhone from playing the iPod through my hands free telephone earpiece?

  • Bluetooth headset no longer work after latest update

I use a Plantronics Voyager Pro bluetooth headset for Skype calling and Ventrillo on my Macbook Pro. Since after the latest update, it no longer works. Both input and output doesn't work and the applications hang for about 30 seconds. I've tried re-pairing the device to no avail. Both applications work if I switch them to the built-in microphone.
I also tried doing the same thing with a Plantronics 245 and I get the same issue.
Both headset work with my phone.

    FIXED!!!!
    Steps to UNF*ing your Mac.
    1) Install an app called Pacifist
    2) Download the individual installer for the Magic Touch Update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1066 DO NOT INSTALL THIS
    3) Load your OSX Install DVD
    4) Open the MagicTrackpadMultiTouchUpd1.0.dmg in Pacifist
    5) Open your OSX Installer DVD in Pacifist
    6) Look at the MagicTrackpadMultiTouchUpd1.0.dmg package in Pacifist to see exactly what it installed and where.
    7) Find these SAME EXACT FILES on the OSX Installer and reinstall them as root (e.g. using your admin password when asked)
    8) Repair permissions (Do NOT skip this)
    9) Reboot
    10) MOST IMPORTANT: Never install the update again!!
Your bluetooth headset will work in skype after this. You will replace EVERY FILE THE MagicTrackpadMultiTouchUpd1.0.dmg package installed with one from the DVD. If you can not find it, the search bar in Pacifist works wonders.
You will get an error if you try to reinstall admin.framework about not having permission to install. This will be the ONLY file you will not reinstall.
Yes, you have more or less, in a very complicated fashion uninstalled the update (software update shows the Magic Touch update as needed afterwards).
Find me on Skype, where I will be able to walk you through it from my Plantronics Voyager Pro bluetooth headset at james.t.bolin
In case you developers want to know, I'll give you my play by play. After the installation of the update, it borked the bluetooth causing Skype to freeze. Reinstalling all the original kexts from the installer disk fixed the skype freezing issue, but there was still no audio. In fact, after reinstalling everything in the System>Library folder still left me with no audio, but it would not freeze or cause kernel panics at this point.
This is where I got the magic. I started replacing stuff in the usr directory. Upon replacing the usr>libexec>cups>backend>bluetooth; usr>libexec>hidd; usr>sbin>blued; and the blue.8 and hidd.8 files, I got audio back and the stars aligned in perfect harmony. I suspect apple needs to retool the kexts and rewrite the root level profiles.

  • Google Voice Won't Work With Bluetooth Headset After Jelly Bean

I am SO frustrated. I had no idea I was installing the Jelly Bean update when I updated the software on my phone. Note to Verizon Communications team: PLEASE do a better job of communicating significant software updates. I would not have installed Jelly Bean. I learned long ago to stick with factory OS on my phones.
Since the update, I noticed that I could no longer dictate texts and emails. Also, my call recording app no longer worked. I switched to Swype and it would work for a few minutes and then stop.  I could still use my bluetooth headset to make calls and S voice worked (although, like others here, I noticed that it's now worse--it doesn't recognize any contact names I request anymore). After trolling Android forums I found that the problem is with the bluetooth headset. You can still dictate when the phone's bluetooth is on, but when a device is connected, all bets are off.
I almost did a factory reset, but then I read that a hard reset will not restore ICS, nor did it resolve this bluetooth Google Voice issue for the few people who tried it already. In fact, resetting caused more problems (eg., more battery drain and removal of Adobe Flash, etc.).
Does anyone know how I can go back to ICS? Bluetooth and Google Voice are the two features I value most in my phones. This is a NIGHTMARE.

    rcschnoor -
The Bluetooth/Voice Search/Dictation issue is a valid issue for the OP, a valid issue for me and oh yeah, the hundreds of other people affected by the, "Google Voice Search stuck on "Initializing" bug filed here on the Google Android Project page.  Here is yet another reference to the same issue from Android Central.
The "Google Music freezing after Jelly Bean Update on Galaxy S3" is also a valid and documented bug located here also on the Google Android Project page.
So I ask, how does sharing with these people that do have these issues, and are affected by them, that you are not experiencing these issues help in any way?  Isn't that the whole purpose of a community forum to help others?

  • Iphone Bluetooth Headset

I just bought one maybe 2 weeks ago and the silly thing will not hold a charge, it says it's charged but when it is paired with my Iphone 3GS the battery icon shows less than a 1/4 charge on it........Whatsup with that? These things aren't cheap........

I haven't really seen any problem with mine. It works fine. I hate bluetooth headsets to begin with, and only use it when I am driving in an area that does not permit the use of a cellphone in the car that isn't through the headset.
It holds the charge for about a day or two if not used -- an hour or so if you do use it. It's longer than I would ever use it.
But if yours isn't holding a charge - it's defective and return it for exchange or a different headset.
