Bluetooth icon GONE

My wireless Mouse stopped working - figured it was the mouse so grabbed another wireless and it would not find it either.  Restarted the computer and then went to 'Mouse' and it says to connect USB mouse.  Finally (after looking at my iMac preferences) figured out that the Bluetooth icon, which is suppose to be in the "Internet & Wireless" area of the System Preferences is gone on my laptop.  Any suggestions?  Gayle

Problem solved!  After reading and reading - I finally posted my question and then found a similar discussion, shut my laptop off, instead of restarting - started it up again and there was my icon!  Whew!

  • Bluetooth Icon in the Menubar gone

    Hi,
sometimes when the computer stars, the Bluetooth Icon in the Menubar doesn't appear. If I go to the bluetooth preferences panel it says it's on and the show menubar icon is checked. I've got to recheck it to see the icon again in the menubar. The icon shows up until maybe weeks later when it doesn't and I don't know why.
How can the icon show up always????

    Hmmm, sometimes!?
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
We have more if that doesn't work.

  • Bluetooth preferences GONE?!

My bluetooth icon is gone from system preferences. My mouse lights up but does not connect. My phone is unable to connect. What could possibly be wrong? I've restarted and shutdown, no luck. Thanks in advance

The Apple Bluetooth Software 1.5.0 is outdated. I highly recommend, to apply the Mac OS X v10.3.9 combined updater and all security updates again.
Using a headset needs several steps even needed if you have the latest computer or Mac OS X release. Please make sure to follow them in order.
Download the Apple Bluetooth Firmware Updater
    Install it
Remove as much USB devices from your computer as possible
Launch it from Applications > Utilities > Bluetooth Updater
Apply it to your adapter (takes very long and disconnects your Bluetooth mouse).
Start the Apple Bluetooth Assistant and select Headset. Do not use anything else!
Make your headset Bluetooth visible. Look up the manual of your headset how to do that.
Now select the headset in System Preferences > Sound.
In most cases step 3 is missed. You have to start the already installed updater yourself (do not ask me why). Step 4 fails if you do not have an internal Apple Bluetooth module and your Bluetooth USB adapter is not supported by Apple. In this case, you have to go for a D-Link DBT-120 USB adapter.

here is an interesting thing: take the iphone and set lock screen to never. Now make an email with siri--be sure to activate her with call button. get to the body and get some text in there. then just stop talking. LOCK SCREEN APPEARS!!!!!! and of course you draft is gone.
There does seem to be a work around for some--maybe all these issues. Don't use the call button--use the buttons on the phone.
Siri seems to behave properly with scenerio above---sans call button. She does not go to lock.

  • Mystery Bluetooth Icon

Can someone tell me what it means when the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar shows a gray B with a black "x" on top of it? The pull down shows dimmed "Bluetooth: Not Available" like when the icon is a B with a squiggle over it.
It's not listed in the list on the Apple page:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107679
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I've had this issue also where I've had the B icon in the top with an X going through it. This has occurred once since I've had the Bluetooth module replaced in April, and the Logic board replaced in May.
After the first repair, I reformatted my harddrive, and ensured that the bluetooth plist had been fully erased off my computer, and rebooted, etc however a few weeks later I noticed that the Bluetooth was failing with the jagged line through the icon, and this was when I wasn't using the Mighty Mouse at all, and it was shut off. This lead to having my logic board replaced.
Now just a few weeks prior to my Apple warranty expiring, I'm having the same issues with the Bluetooth yet again. In the past 10 days I've had the X going through the Bluetooth icon once, and then the broken line go through it several times. This is when my computer is in full use, and not when it's going to sleep/waking up which I've read seems to be one of the causes of this type of failure.
I've gone through all the steps mentioned before the first repair, and needless to say nothing has worked to this point in time. There's no pattern nor method to this madness, and thus I will be contacting Apple to let them know what my scenario is and see what they can do for me.
The only other thing I use my Bluetooth for is my Palm Treo smart phone for syncing however such is a rare occasion as I have a direct sync cable/charger for it and thus find it much faster using the cable rather than bluetooth. I also have no other non-Apple networking peripherals directly attached to my computer.

  • TS3048 no bluetooth icon in system preferences

i have mac os 10.7.3 and the bluetooth icon disappeared from system preferences, does not show up at all.
I have had this issue before restarted several times and then it came back.
But is there something else i can do about it ?
    help ?

Click on the B icon on the top right menu bar if it's there but just greyed out and turn it back on.
If it's gone altogether, then unplug any mouse/trackpad to your system, and re-boot. When a system can't find a keyboard or mouse, it turns BlueTooth back on as a fail-safe.

  • Bluetooth icon always blue

I've just noticed, the last few days, that my Bluetooth icon is always blue, as if it's connected.
If I go into Settings > General > Bluetooth, I can see my 3 devices listed, and all say Not Connected (which is what I'd expect considering all 3 of them are about 8 miles away from me just now!)
If I turn bluetooth and/or airplane mode off then back on, the icon just goes blue again.
I'm not bothered if it's just a colour issue, but I'm worried it's gonna drain more battery life.

It certainly should not be blue unless connected to a device, it can drain battery faster if it thinks it's connected to a device...have you tried a hard reset?
Hold the sleep and home buttons until you see a white apple symbol against a black screen, then let go

  • Is there a way to put the bluetooth icon on the homepage?

I pair my iphone with my car when I'm driving. Is there a way to put the bluetooth icon on the homepage so I don't have to go through settings to turn the bluetooth on and off?
I don't like to leave the bluetooth on all the time because it drains the battery, but it's kinda a pain to have to go through settings everytime I want to use this feature.
On my last cell phone I could assign a "hot key" to automatically turn the bluetooth on and off. I really liked that. This bluetooth system seems a little dated to me.

    No not yet, hopfully soon.

  • Mac osx 10.4.11 removes bluetooth icon

I just installed 10.4.11 and i now have no bluetooth icon on my menu bar?? What happened to it?

I have no idea what happened to it, but you can easily get it back by going to >System Preferences...>Bluetooth>Settings>Show Bluetooth Status in menu bar.
    Good luck!

    Greetings:
I have just acquired an older mini mac (2006 1.66 ghz core 2 duo) Anyway, it had Tiger 10.4 on it and the Bluetooth worked for the wireless Apple keyboard and mouse.  I upgraded to Snow Leopard and everything works fine - everything except Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth icon does not exist in the System Preferenc screen.
I tried to download Bluetooth from Apple site but the message I got told me that I didn't need it.
Under Finder, Utilities, I found Bluetooth File Exchange but the message I got was that I had to connect a Bluetooth device to my computer.
I have to admit that I have no idea what's going on here.  I am hoping to avert the need to try another complete re-install of Snow Leopard.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    javaminit

Puzzled is a polite word for it.
Thanks Barry - I found the file and trie to send it to trash.  The response: (This item cannot be trashed as it it owned by the system).
After dancing around with PRAM and SMC and turning on while holding the power-cntrl-option-shift and heavens knows what else, I now have the Bluetooth symbol on the top of the menu bar but it is ghoseted and has a squiggly line through it.   This, I didn't have before so I read this as some progress.  It notes that "Bluetooth is not available">
However, the Bluetooth icon is still missing from the System Preferences window - you know, between "network" and "sharing".
You note that you reckon the issue is not software based and you may be correct.  The reason that I wonder about that though, is that before I installed Snow Leopard, the keyboard and mouse both paired with the box under the Tiger 10.4.  That leads me to conclude that hardware is functional and that there is some screwy little bit of software that is not cooperating.
If I could delete Bluetooth from the system and re-install a fresh version, that might help.  Or, is there a way I can use the Snow Leopard install disc and only load in Bluetooth?
    I'm stumped.
    Thanks for your time
    /Bill C.

  • Why do I have a blinking Bluetooth icon?

After months of using my MacBook Pro, it has developed an annoying tic. The icon next to the blue "Search" icon at the top right of my screen is blinking. It goes from a black diamond against the white bar, to a black battery with a different icon on it. However, I'm not getting the usual notice that the batteries are low in my Apple wireless mouse or keyboard. When I position the mouse over it, I get a Bluetooth menu that shows both my wireless devices, says Bluetooth is turned on, and gives me some other choices--none of which seem to need any attention.
Does anybody know why this annoying blinking has started and how I can turn it off? Thanks, Chris

    Hi, cfinnie.
As you note, and per "Bluetooth: About Bluetooth Icons," that indicates a low battery in either your Apple wireless keyboard or mouse.
    1. Try checking the battery level in these devices: see "Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Wireless Mouse: How to Check the Battery Level."
    2. You could try fresh batteries in each just as a test.
    Good luck!

Yes....It happens all the time. I also erased my HD and installed Snow Leopard but with no success. Tried lots of REBOOTING but nothing worked for me.As I have already installed the new OSX I think there is no need to go through the below procedure. What do you suggest?
Before you go through the ritual of reinstalling the entire system just try to do a "factory reset" of your bluetooth environment. To do this you need to run the Bluetooth Explorer which is a utility installed as part of XCode.
    1. Launch Bluetooth Explorer.
    2. Select the "Modify Software & Device Configuration" from the Utilities menu.
    3. Keep the first 4 checkboxes checked (one will say "Full factory reset").
    4. Click "Perform actions" button (lower right of window).
    5. Reboot (possibly the Reboot NOW button will work, if not just do a normal reboot).
Hopefully that will clear your problem(s) so you can re-pair your bluetooth devices.
    Good luck.

  • Get rid of the Bluetooth icon

I migrated my account from my powerbook to mini, trouble is i don't have bluetooth installed on my mini and the bluetooth icon on the top right corner is also 'migrated'. so the icon would show as grey and read 'not available'. if i try to open bluetooth to disable the icon, it would say 'no device detected' and then automatically shut off.
is there anyway to get rid of that icon at all? thanks!

Command-Click Icon-Drag-Poof! is the real easiest.
Hold Cmd key. Click and hold on the menubar item you wish to remove. Drag away from the menu bar. Watch the poof.
