Bluetooth in MacBook Pro won't pair with anything

Hello all.  I have two MacBook Pros, each about 6 months old.  They are both running the latest version of Lion.  Neither one will pair with any bluetooth device.  I always get an error message saying "this device does not have the necessary services".  What does this mean, and how can I fix it?
I have a Canon printer that won't pair, and I thougth it was just a compatibility issue until I tried to pair a Jawbone Jambox (which used to pair), and a brand new Bose portable speaker.  I get the same message every time.
Bluetooth on the computer finds the device,  but can't go through with the pairing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jadrb

I just got a Creative D100 bluetooth speaker and am having the exact same problem you had. Speaker pairs just fine with my ipad, but won't work with MacBook giving me same "This device does not have the necessary services" error message. Have you found a solution yet?

  • Macbook Pro won't pair with my existing Bluetooth Mouse.

I used a bluetooth mouse with my macbook pro and had no problems. Since the lastest Mountain Lion Updapte (10.8.2), the laptop finds the mouse but the pairing with the device doesn't work. I've changed the batteries and restarted the laptop several times. Any suggestions other than buying a new bluetooth mouse?

  • Macbook pro won't pair with iphone

    Hi folks,
I have an iphone 4S running 7.0.3 and a Macbook pro with newly installed Mavericks.
I have failed to get the Maps app on the Macbook to find the iphone to send directions.
Now when I try to 'pair' the two devices with Bluetooth they can see each other but refuse to stay connected.
Two problems or possibly one causing the other.
    Any help would be appreciated.

You are quite correct that Bluetooth isn't the usual method - in truth I'm frustrated that the Maps app on the Macbook won't find the iPhone to send to.. Therefore I have tried to 'link' the two devices by any means and tried Bluetooth almost as a last resort.
Both devices are connected to the cloud and I have checked that I have up to date OSs on both.
chattphotos - your screen shot is bang on - but it should have one or more devices listed as well to send the info / map to.  That's where it is falling short and hence my attempts to 'find' the iPhone.
ChrisJ4203 - I'm sure you are correct as well. Bluetooth probably isn't the correct method, however I'm struggling to find what is.

  • TS1569 My Apple Bluetooth Keyboard (2003, White) won't pair with my MacBook Pro

My Apple Bluetooth Keyboard (2003, White) won't pair with my MacBook Pro anymore.  It seems just randomly became unresponsive.  I took them both to the genius bar and everything worked fine.  When I got home, NOTHING worked! Any Ideas??
The batteries are fine, and it will not pair with my wife's MacBook either.

iPhones and Macbooks cannot pair to each other except for internet sharing.
Most Bluetooth operations between them (like Airdrop) do not require they be paired.
What exactly are you attempting to do by pairing them?

  • MacBook Pro will not pair with any Bluetooth device

Last night my MacBook Pro stopped pairing with any bluetooth device (I've tried Apple Pro Wireless Keyboard, Wireless Mighty Mouse, Logitech MX900 mouse, Apple Aluminum Wireless Keyboard) and it simply won't pair with anything.
It sees each device but when it tries to pair it fails. With the keyboards, sometimes it'll give me the passkey to type on the keyboard but then it doesn't recognize that I've actually typed it and hit enter. Eventually I just end up with:
"The pairing attempt was unsuccessful. Make sure your keyboard is in range of this computer, turned on and "discoverable." When ready, click Continue to try again."
I've reinstalled 10.5.6 Combo update, tried to pair under a different user account, turned off/on bluetooth, and still nothing.
I did install VMWare Fusion last night and briefly shared the Bluetooth connection to that, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.
    Any suggestions?

    Me too. sigh
All was well until this afternoon, when I swapped out the batteries on my trusty old Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer for Bluetooth, which has worked flawlessly for me for a few years now. After I put new batteries in, my MBP wouldn't recognize it. I went through the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, and it "saw" the mouse and properly listed it as "Microsoft Mouse". I hit "continue", of course, and the Assistant said "Pairing with your Bluetooth mouse". It got as far as "Connection established" (and I saw the mouse appear in the Bluetooth preference pane", but then I got the dreaded red words: "The pairing attempt was unsuccessful. Make sure your mouse is in range of this computer, turned on and "discoverable." Etc., etc. I made sure of all of those things and tried again, many times, with the same failure every time. I tried different batteries, rebooted the Mac, and so on. No luck.
Figuring my mouse was dead, I went out and bought a Kensington Slimblade Bluetooth Presenter Mouse, brand new, never been paired with anything. Same problem!
Also, I can no longer get my Palm Treo 650 to sync via Bluetooth. It used to be a little flaky (often complained that the port was in use by another application), but rebooting the Treo always solved that. Now, it doesn't.
One trusty old mouse suddenly stops pairing, one brand-new one refuses to pair, smartphone won't sync any more. I haven't installed any system updates or anything else since the Microsoft mouse worked. The only weird thing going on is that I'm having massive network connectivity issues with my broadband connection (probably a flaky cable modem), and a couple of days ago I bought a new Airport Extreme a/b/g/n wireless router, which is at the other end of the house from my computer and now-defunct mice.
Very bizarre. Can the Bluetooth chip or antenna in a MacBook Pro burn out or otherwise fail?

  • TS1627 iCal on my MacBook Pro won't sync with iCal on the iPhone and visa versa

Just got a new iPhone 5 and now iCal on my MacBook Pro won't sync with iCal on the iPhone and visa versa

    Hi Jetjuice!
I have an article that can help you troubleshoot this issue a little further and can provide you with some more steps to take in attempting to resolve this issue:
Sync Services: Advanced troubleshooting for contact and calendar syncing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2481
That article has an extensive list of steps to perform in attempting to get the calendar to sync again, and those steps should help you resolve the issue. Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

  • MacBook Pro won't sync with other devices

My MacBook pro won't sync with other devices in the house.  My iPad and iPhone sync OK but MacBook won't for some reason.  Can you help?

Sign into your account in iTunes - from that page you should be able to deauthorise ALL 5 authorised computers - supposedly you can do this once a year.
Thereafter any devices you no longer have will be deauthorised, and you can reauthorise those you still have or are new.

  • Macbook Pro won't boot with external HDD plugged

I have a weird problem. My late 2008 Macbook Pro won't start with external HDD plugged either FW or USB... The screen stays white until I unplug it and then the Apple logo is there.
Anyone know any solution for this? Or anyone have the same problem

yeah I had the exact same issue with one of my 750GB externals too. I just left it for a while (about an hour or so) and it was fine..
I believe its so slow because the system is indexing the drive, which can be a very slow process if the drive is big, has a complex folder-hierarchy, and/or is fragmented.
Does the hard-drive appear quite quickly in Finder once OS X has started up? if its slow it may confirm what I've just said.

  • Calendar on Macbook Pro won't synch with iCloud

Calendar on my Macbook Pro won't synch with the Calendar on iCloud. I tried a number of times to delete Calendar from iCloud in System Preferences then restart the laptop. I also switched the 'enable' function on and off in Calendar Preferences. I restarted after every attempt and also refreshed. It looks as if it's updating but then nothing happens and the triangular, exclamation mark appears, grayed out, next to the iCloud icon in Calendar. I saw an answer in the Apple Support troubleshooting section regarding this about the server having to access port 80 or 443. Could this be the problem and if so then how would I make any port accessible to the relevant server? I'm not having this problem with my other devices or computer.

    Hello Wateru,
Thank you for providing the details of the calendar issue you are experiencing with your MacBook Pro.  You have taken some really good troubleshooting steps already.  I recommend continuing with the steps in the sections titled "General troubleshooting" and  "Troubleshooting on OS X" in the following article:

My Macbook pro won't sync with my iPad. It says it isn't authorised.  I have gone as far as deauthorizing all computers then authorizing the Macbook & still no luck.  Any ideas?

Sorry, not sure how to screenshot on my computer, but this is what is says word for word:-
The Ipad could not b synced because the computer is not longer authorised for purchased items that are on this ipad.
To authorise this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store, choose Store>Authorise this computer.
I have done all of that but not luck.  That's when I tried deauthorising all computer which it did ok.  I then authorised my Macbook pro again, it said I had one computer now authorised.  I tried to delete apps via Itunes then sync to my iPad, but the above message keeps popping up & it wont do what I want.

My Macbook Pro won't print with my HP Photosmart 7515. I get the following message, " Print file was not accepted" Printer does work with our PC?? Checked for software updates and are none. Talked with HP help and they say it's an Apple problem

I noticed that you said you uninstalled the printer, but you didn't mention resetting the print system.  Resetting the print system will reset the drivers the Mac has installed and make them work like they should.  Give this a try and see if it gets the printer working like it should.  The document below will expalin more about doing this.
Basic Printer Troubleshooting Steps for Mac
If that doesn't help, see if you are using the AirPrint driver, or the printers driver.  By default 10.8 uses the AirPrint driver if the printer supports it, so I'm betting that's the driver you're using.  If it is, try using the driver for the printer itself.  To do this, access Print and Scan.  Click the + sign to add a new printer.  Select the printer from the list.  Click the dropdown next to Use and select the 7515's driver.  Let me know what happens.

  • Macbook pro won't boot with two new 4GB RAM sticks.

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro. It came with two 2GB RAM sticks. After downloading Lion, my computer started to get sluggish so I thought I would upgrade the ram. I bought two 4GB Corsair RAM sticks and tried to install them. My computer will boot up if I install one of the new 4GB sticks and leave an old 2GB stick; but it won't boot with both of the new 4GB sticks. Any ideas?

Recently i was browsing the web and this popup comes up saying "so and so"'s mac book pro wants to pair with your computer. Now this person changed the name to their own and turned on the computer. I didnt know what it was so i just let it disappear. Then a few minutes later it pops up again the same thing. I wrote down some of the name but i need it to pop up again. • My bluetooth keyboard was randomly typing letters by itself and now won't pair with anything.

My bluetooth keyboard was acting normally for ages, connected to my Macbook laptop. Then, out of the blue, it started typing random letters constantly and became unsable. I unpaired the keyboard with my laptop, but now it doesn't seem to pair with anything. I can get it into discoverable mode, but after I type in the passkey and enter, nothing happens and I get the message "the pairing attempt was unsuccessful" . I've tried to connect it to iPads, my phone, other laptops, but it doesn't work. Any idea what I should do? Thanks for the help.

Update: I tried to link the keyboard to my old G3 which it used to work with no problems an it took ages to link up and then on restart wouldn't link up. I'm thinking it might be a faulty old keyboard that died of a broken heart when the bluetooth dongle passed away. Poor thing
