Bluetooth interfere with airport network?

I have had my share of interference issues with my airport network....thinking about buying bluetooth speakers....will they interfere with my wifi network......ie streaming from a touch to speakers?

According to this thread, bluetooth can interfere with WiFi on the 2.4GHz band, but not on the 5Gz band.

  • Telephone interference with Airport network

I have read in several places both here and elsewhere that there is potential for interference by a 2.4 GHz cordless phone with my Airport network. Is it fair to assume that a 5.8 GHz cordless phone system would be okay? I am currently having no problems with Airport networking, and would like to keep it that way as I upgrade my old phone system.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

That potential exists for any 802.11b or g wireless network as both use the same frequency spectrum. If you find a phone that uses a different spectrum, you should not have any problems. For example I have an old 900Mhz phone that does not interfere.
    Good luck.

  • Mini dvi to dvi adapter interferes with airport ?

    Hi,
I am seeing slower network speed (20% of the normal speed), when I use the mini-dvi-to-dvi adapter... I also have a mini-dvi-to-vga adapter which doesn't cause this network speed degradation.
I guess the dvi adapter somehow interferes with the signals the airport sends and receives. The adapter comes with a very short cable (a couple of inches), so I can't move it out of the way to reduce interference (assuming that is the issue).
In both cases, the adapters connect to the same external display (1920 x 1200) and they both work fine for my monitor. But I'd like to use the mini-dvi-to-dvi adapter because of the (slightly) better picture quality.
But perhaps it's not interference, anyone else has ideas ?
Unless anyone has a suggestion, I am going to return the mini-dvi-to-dvi adapter because it's pretty useless if it interferes with the airport.
For now, I'd recommend others to buy a mini-dvi-to-vga adapter for their external displays...

Yes, I have that option set... but your response reminds me that that I haven't tried setting it off, see if that makes a difference (would be quite ironical if setting off "robustness" fixed it
Since yours works, I wonder if it depends on the wireless router I use; I have a Netgear WTG624

  • Bluetooth interferes with WiFi in Yosemite 10.10 (reproducible)

There is a long (40 pages so far) thread about WiFi issues with Yosemite. However, I believe it has become a catchall thread for all kinds of connectivity problems and a growing number of "solutions" address only a few of them.
So I wanted to start a separate thread about a very specific issue I found to be easily reproducible: turning on Bluetooth in Yosemite 10.10 interferes with WiFi, lowering the bandwidth in a measurable way. I have tested this on two different MacBook Pro Retina (mid-2011 and late-2013) and an Apple Airport router.
To test is yourself do the following:
Move away from the WiFi access point so the signal is not at full strength
    Turn Bluetooth Off
Visit speedtest.net and run a speed test a handful of times (average the results discarding the outliers, i.e. the fastest and the slowest)
    Turn Bluetooth On
Repeat Step 2 and compare results
In my case I see a 30% drop in download speed and about a 50% drop in upload speed. I'm not a hardware/radio engineer but I think it's pretty clear that the WiFi and Bluetooth drivers for the initial release version of Yosemite are causing some kind of interference. This is obviously wrong. Unless there is a programmable parameter that can be tweaked for these drivers, I doubt there is anything we can do about it until Apple releases an update with 10.10.1.
Turning off Bluetooth is an obvious fix for the WiFi issues but it is clearly not useful if you depend on Bluetooth accessories and defeats the purpose of may cool Yosemite features like Handoff.
Is anybody else seeing this in their environment?

I also still see the problem with 10.10.2
I posted these stats in the WiFi problems thread (>150 pages by now) but I'll post it here as well:

  • WEP setup with Airport network

    Greetings,
Hopefully this will not be a difficult question. I have an Apple Airport network that I have been using to connect a Playstation 2 to the internet with using a WGA11b Game Adapter. Being in a rural area I had not worried about using any security on the network.
But now that situation has changed causing me to activate WEP security on the network. I am unable to figure out how to modify the settings in the Game Adapter to recognize the new security. Is there a way I can "talk" to the Adapter with one of my Macs to fix this?
    Matt Bowerman

You will require a windows based PC as the setup disk that comes with the GA will only run on windows...and that';s the only method to configure teh WGA11b since it does not have a web interface.

  • D Link 120 Bluetooth adaptor Interferes with the network preferences for BT

    Hi
I just purchased a D Link 120 Bluetooth adaptor adaptor for my G4 machine running OSX10.4.10.
When I connect it to a usb port, it works just fine and can see my mobile phone transfer files etc. The real problems begin when I restart my machine. On initial start up I cannot connect to the internet and in the network pane of the system preferences, I get a message saying a new port has been detected called Built in Ethernet-1
When i click apply changes, the computer once more connects to the internet, however the name under which it connects is now saying Ethernet Adaptor ((null)). In short, is there a method to prevent the Bluetooth adaptor from interfering with my settings to connect to the internet?
    Thanks
    Jon

    Dear Justin,
Did you end up getting this router? If so how have you found it?
    Thanks,
    Scot.

  • PLEASE HELP ME, Problems with airport/network set up all of a sudden.

Ok here goes. Saturday Aug. 19 I was on the internet, everythings fine. Then all of a sudden my airport drops/disconnects. I went into assistant, internet connect, preferences and so on. My computer tells me in Network Diagnostics that the airport is green, airport settings is green, network setting is green, isp is green, but internet and server are red. Ive messed around with it to no prevail, in fact I believe I think I have made it worse. Now only the airport is green. I have know idea. My roommate also has an Apple and his wireless/airport is fine, nothings changed. As I have "messed" with it, I have come across a section where it tells me my internet set up/preferences or something has been changed by another application, if that makes any sense. This is not so much a problem as it is a hassel. Now I must sit at the coffee table to get on the internet.
Is there a way to start over or is this a serious problem needing an Apple store tec? Can someone walk me through what I need to do to fix this, as I have no idea what Im doing.
If there is any more information needed... Please ask.

No the password isn't your apple id password.
You encrypted your backup with a password, if you don't remember the password, then i'm sorry you won't be able to use it.

  • Help needed with Airport network G5 Quad & MBP

    Hello,
I need some advice on Airport. I hope these aren't simple stupid questions...
I have a G5 Quad (Dec 2005) attached to a cable modem. I just ordered a 15" MBP 2.2. I am wondering if all I need to network them wirelessly is an Airport card for the G5 where the G5 will act as the base station? Do I need to purchase a base station? I want to be able to connect wireless with the MBP to access the internet, files on the G5 which also has two external hd's attached and a printer.
Then in regards to the base station, it seems as if the Express actually does more than the Extreme in that you are able to listen to iTunes wirelessly as well and it is more portable. Why would someone opt to spend more on the Extreme? Are there any performance differences?
Any help or advice is appreciated...

Yes, this is totally possible. To share files and your printers, simply go into System Preferences > Sharing > Check both "Personal File Sharing" and "Printer Sharing". Now when you go to print on your MBP, you'll see under the printer drop down box a section called "Shard Printers" – simply pick the one you want to print to and you're good to go.
As for accessing files, once Personal File Sharing is turned on, from your MBP, go to Network in a Finder window and you should see the name of your Quad in there. Double click on it, then enter the user name and password of the QUAD (not the MBP) and hit Connect. You'll then be presented with a list of drives which you can then choose from. You'll have to repeat the procedure for each drive you want to connect to, so I personally just save the username and pass to the Keychain so I don't have to re-enter it everytime.
As for sharing internet from your Quad, go back into the Sharing pane in System Preferences and under the "Internet" tab, you can choose to share your connection via Airport. So, for example, you can say "Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet 1" then check "AirPort" under the "To computers using:" box.
    Hope this helps!

  • Lots of problems with Airport Network???

    Hi,
My experience with the Airport Extreme wireless network has not been positive at all. I don't know about other brands of wireless networks - maybe they are all like this? Maybe it is a wireless thing. The problems range from base stations just dropping out and going "orange" for no apparent reason, randomly - they will work for weeks at a time, they just drop out - to extremely slow local area network access, with relatively little or no other network traffic going on - remote desktop in particular sometimes slows to an absolute crawl and it's very frustrating, then I have to traverse to the other end of the building to access the machine I'm working on directly just to get that work done. I'm not a WIFI expert, but I've tried reassigning the base stations to other channels, tried the interference option, and a few other things. I just find it's very unreliable, coverage is very poor in this building, and no matter what I do it seems to have the same below average result. I like Apple a lot, but these systems and their lacklustre "we help you set up one WDS system and that's it further support costs $xx.xx " telephone support was disappointing. I was surprised to be honest, most of my other dealings with apple support and hardware has been good or excellent.
Anyone know what I can do? They all have the latest firmware / software updates, and I have 3 stations, one main hooked up to broadband, and two remotes.
    M.

I can not help you other then to say I have experienced some of what you have. I live with it because I love it and to solve my issue all I have to do is unplug the base unit and re-plug it in. It works, sorry if this is not satisfy or works for you. I have same issue with cable TV, with internet and with IVOP but I live I use and it works.

  • Recommended modem to work with airport network?

I have Time Warner internet and need to get a modem to work with an Airport Express, Extreme and Time Capsule. Can anyone please recommend one?
    Thanks.

We recommend a modem that is compatible with your Internet service and one that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will support.
We could recommend the "best" modem in the world, but it would be of little value if you have connection difficulties and then find out that your ISP does not support that modem.
It might be a better stategy to check with your ISP first, to see what they offer....or....if they do not offer a modem, to see if they have a list of compatible models that they will support.
Often, the ISP will provide you with a modem free of charge of you commit to year or more of service.
If you cannot decide among compatible models, then post back a list of what your ISP is offering.....to see if other users will respond with some opinions.

  • D-LINK router interferes with Airport Express and Extreme

Thanks everyone! I found out that the problem was and is that my DLINK router network is constantly interfering. I unplugged the DLINK and now I can see the Ariport Extreme AND Express in the Airport utility - for the first time actually. Would anyone have an idea how to disable the DLINK network? I tried in the network preferences using the "-" to delete it from the list but it keeps coming back.
    Thanks

yogisan, Welcome to the discussion area!
Configure the D-Link to use a different channel or see if the D-Link has a configuration option to disable the wireless interface.

  • Sleep/Display Sleep - Either one seems to interfere with Airport

If I put the system to "Sleep", or if the Screen Saver is put to sleep; upon awakening, there is a disruption of system wireless/internet connection. What could cause this?

If you are also using a Screen Saver before the Display Sleep kicks in, try setting the screen saver to Never. Does that have any effect on this wireless network connection issue?
Also, it may be useful to know if the disconnection happens when the Display Sleep starts, or when it ends. To do this, find some download that will take longer that the Display Sleep time to complete. Start the download and leave it alone. Make sure the download is still happening when Display Sleep starts. Leave it alone, in display sleep mode so that it has more than enough time to complete the download (but before the Computer Sleep setting kicks in). Did the download fail or did it complete?
Also, does this problem also occur if you manually sleep the display versus the timed (no activity) display sleep? You can manually sleep the display by setting a +Hot Corner+ to +Put Display to Sleep+, in System Preferences +Desktop & Screen Saver+ pane.

  • Problem with 2 computers Airport network

While long time comfortable with Mac, I am novice with Airport/network.
I have a MacMini (with Airport card) and a new PowerBookPro (15" 2.2 Intel Core 2 Duo and Airport card). I have new Airport Extreme Base device and I have successfully set up wireless internet connection for both computers.
I have also successfully through Airport set up so my mini connects with MBP/sees the MBP on the Mini desktop, etc..
My problem is that I haven't done the +correct rain dance+ so that the MBP connects to see my Mac mini on the MBP.
No clue what is being done wrong, except: In Finder of Mini under Go --> Network the MBP is listed and I then connect through steps of that window.
However, on the MBP Finder under Go --> Network, I just get a "flash" and no menu window is displayed at all.
Strange to me that computer network gods are so easily accommodating one way (Mini connects with MBP via Go/Network) and totally absent in reverse (no connect of MBP via Go/Network with Mini).
I hope someone can guide me through the correct ritual so that the 2 computers can go both ways. TIA.

    I solved my problem!
Looking in other discussion forums, I found workaround for the fact that when on MBP/Finder/Go/Network all I got was a flash and no window.
The recommended solution worked! To simply logout and then login on that MBP. This restored the Go windows and Network window showing my MacMini to connect with.
So now both computer go both ways.

  • Slow connection with Airport Extreme

Just upgraded my cable modem connection to the very high speed. 6 Mbits download, and 786 Kilobyts upload. 2 Macs connected via Airport Extreme to the cable modem. I am getting the upload speeds, but the download speeds are 2322.04, and 270.744, as an example. Troubleshooting it with the ISP (Adelphia) they say the problem is in the router. Because on a direct connection, bypassing the router I get download speeds of 5147.015, and 4129.464 as an example. They told me to update the router's software which I did to Version 5.7. That did not resolve the speed problems. I am still not doing any better on the speeds. Since the problem seems to be the Airport Extreme router, does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

and it worked fine up until a few weeks ago
That would be the time that someone near you likely set up another wireless network that is interfering with your network. If it is any consolation, your network is likely interfering with his as well.
Unfortunately, the bottom line here is that other than experimenting, there is just not much that you can do. A good friend of mine recently moved into a new downtown condominium complex and found that his wireless was virtually unusable due to the number of other networks around him.
The only solution that worked for him was to take an older AirPort Extreme that was capable of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, but not both at once like the newer models, and set up the older AirPort Extreme for 5 GHz only.
ironically, the better antennas in the newer AirPorts provide better wireless coverage, but they are also more susceptible to picking up other signals that may interfere with your network. My opinion on that, based on my experience here with one of the new AirPort Extremes.
I went back to my old AirPort Extreme and while I have a bit less range, things work better.
This is the newest model, do you think the ac vs n connection would have anything to with it?
Most interference issues occur in the 2.4 GHz range, so it is very unlikely that an "ac" connection....which runs at 5 GHz....would be the cause of your issue, since there are very few 5 GHz networks....for now.

  • Connecting 802.11b/g devices to an 802.11n AirPort network

I have a Time Capsule with an iMac and a MacBook connected to it. I want to add a Windows laptop to the setup, but it only has 802.11 b/g networking built in. As I understand it, adding an 802.11b or g device to an 802.11n network will slow the network down to the speed of the slower b or g device. What kind of 802.11n device, that is compatible with the AirPort (Broadcom?) chipset, should I get to connect this computer to the network? (The PC does not have a card slot.)
Would an AirPort Express work in WDS mode, with its Ethernet port connected to the laptop's Ethernet port?

As I understand it, adding an 802.11b or g device to an 802.11n network will slow the network down to the speed of the slower b or g device.
Not quite all the way down to 802.11b or g, but there will be a bandwidth degradation for 802.11n clients.
What kind of 802.11n device, that is compatible with the AirPort (Broadcom?) chipset, should I get to connect this computer to the network?
A number of vendors, specializing in networking equipment, offer 802.11n USB wireless adapters. I have used a number of Cisco/Linksys products that work just fine with AirPort networking.
Would an AirPort Express work in WDS mode, with its Ethernet port connected to the laptop's Ethernet port?
If this AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is a 802.11b/g version, then it would have the same affect as any other 802.11b/g client. In fact, in a WDS, the network will only operate in the 802.11g mode, so you really don't to go that route either. Another option, would be to use a newer 802.11n AX; reconfigure it as a ProxySTA, and use its Ethernet port for the connection to the PC.
