Bluetooth keyboard "missing"

Since installing latest update to 10.6.8 I can no longer "discover" my Apple bluetooth keyboard. Is this a problem with the update or has something else likely happened to my system?

Disregard.  Because of the restart the keyboard had in the meantime paired with my wife's computer in another room.

I already have multiple devices and by far I like my iPad the most over laptops and the iPad. That including checking out my friends MacBook Air.
The difference for me is the touch interface on the screen itself for things that do not require a lot of typing. For me, the iPad is more "magical" than anything else I've used.
Again, I do appreciate your answers but you don't know my situation. Not everything is as it is perceived without knowing me and what I have to go through.

  • IPad 2 / Bluetooth Keyboard

Is there a way to generate a "send" sequence (required in iMessage) from the Apple Bluetooth keyboard? Or is there a way to program tahe sequence on the keyboard? Hard to believe Apple missed this. HELP!!!

OK, I just went to get my keyboard.  yeah, big oversight.  Option-return (which clearly says "enter" on my keyboard) doesn't work.
So we need to submit feedback.  This is for sure a bug.

  • Migration Assistant, Target Disk Mode and Bluetooth Keyboards

Wanted to migrate my iMac setup to a new MBP last night. Kept trying to start up my iMac in target disk mode and it would only boot normally not in TD. Finally realized that my bluetooth keyboard was the culprit in that it wasn't connected once the iMac shut off for the restart. Thankfully I had a wired keyboard; plugged it in and migration went as advertised. Nowhere (that I could find) in the Migration Asst. prompts does it mention anything about needing a wired keyboard to restart as a TD. Did I miss something basic? If not, shouldn't Apple make mention of this to avoid confusion and frustration?
    BTW, the new MBP rocks!

Yes, that tidbit of info is buried in a support article, as is some other Migration Assistant documentation. But it would be far better if the app had its own comprehensive, searchable Help built into it, just like most other apps from Apple. Note that when you launch Migration Assistant, there isn't even a Help menu, nor are there any question mark in purple circle icons in its windows to offer context sensitive help.
Basically, that's what I requested in my feedback to Apple.

  • Using shift key not working with bluetooth keyboard

Am I missing something here? Or does the shift key not work with the iphone using a bluetooth keyboard?  I'm using the logitech K810 for reference on iphone 6 iOS 8.1

The shift key works just fine on my Bluetooth keyboard.  So I would imagine this is an issue with your keyboard.

Help!  My Bluetooth keyboard is not writing what I type!  What I mean is that when I type the letter "h" for example, it shows up as a different letter. None of the keys match! What is going on?

The missing Albums may be ones where the Artist is not listed as also being the Album Artist in the tag.  Try going to Settings>Music and turn Group By Album Artist to Off.  See if the missing albums now show in the Artist view.  If so, you can either leave the setting this way, or if you prefer it to be on, go to iTunes on your computer and put the correct name in the Album Artist field of the tag (on the Info tab of the tab) for the albums in question and sync your phone.

  • Use USB keyboard instead of bluetooth keyboard

New iMac. OS X Lion. USB keyboard preferred. bluetooth keyboard absent. The computer searches forever for the missing keyboard.
If I unplug the USB keyboard and re-insert the plug, the computer recognizes the keyboard and everything is fine. It won't just recognize the USB keyboard without all this hassle. What solution might there be for this?
    Thanks

I started in the bluetooth preferences, clicked advanced and based on the presentation given there
I de-selected the checkbox that read "open bluetooth setup assistant at startup if no keyboard detected".
That "is" the solution. The warningt there was that one "should have an alternative keyboard attached".
    WOW

  • BlueTooth Keyboard and Mouse on the Z10. What works what doesn't

With my D-Link using DLNA, my newly purchased BlueTooth Logitech Tablet Keyboard and Mouse; my Z10 and/or my PlayBook could very well become my media and comunications centre. There is little left for my PC to do.
Let me cut to the chase and my experience with my Bluetooth Keyboard and Bluetooth mouse on my Z10.
    Logitech Tablet Keyboard
Pairing was no problem. Just type in the BT link code into the keyboard and hit enter.
    Improvement(s) needed:
    1. Backspace key - support press/hold delete instead of having to hit the backspace key multiple times to delete long string of characters.
    2. Tab key - Support for tab through multiple fields (when available)
    3. Support to program function keys to act as smart keys (as an option). This would be awesome!
    Logitech v470 mouse
Pairing was easy. Passcode was 0000 entered via my BT keyboard, previously paired.
    1. Swipe up/down does not work at bottom/top edge in portrait orientation. It DOES work when in landscape orientation.
    2. Scrolling: Hit or miss. Does not work consistently.
    3. Programmable buttons would be awesome. Being able to use the left/right scroll wheel toggle for app switching would be sweet!!
    Overall, a great start!!

hi problem child, thanks for your time in responding this. Also I forgot to ask which mouse model as well

  • When I try to connect my bluetooth keyboard to my ipad, the dialog box pops up and says: "Make sure 'Apple Wireless Keyboard' is turned on and in range." But the keyboard is turned on and is right in front of the ipad. Any thoughts?

When I try to cnnect my bluetooth keyboard to my ipad, the dialogue box pops up and says: "Make sure 'Apple Wireless Keyboard' is turned on and in range." The thing is, the keyboard is on and is sitting in front of the ipad. I have used it before, but not for many months. I changed the batteries today just in case. The green light on the keyboard comes on and continues blinking. What am I missing?

Keyboards Can only be paired with one device at the time so if it's paired with another device IN range it Will not pair with the ipad

  • Bluetooth keyboard delete key

I have used three different Bluetooth keyboards with my ipad2 and on everyone of them the delete key performs like a traditional back space key, deleting anything to the left of the cursor, not to the right of the cursor.  Am I missing something here? Is there a way to make the delete key operate like the one on a traditional keyboard?

Skydiver, you are right in the movements of the two keys on traditional keyboards; and, when I looked, the Logitech bluetooth keyboard does NOT have a backspace key, only a Delete key that operates like a traditional backspace key (deletes from right to left).  However, the Kensington ipad portfolio with a built-in/detachable bluetooth keyboard DOES have both keys, but they both operate like a backspace key.  The Vivitar brand ipad portfolio with built-in bluetooth keyboard ALSO had both keys, but operated only like a backspace key.  I was just wondering if it had something to do with my ipad (which apparently it does since it's an Apple product based on further research), or if I was just missing something.  This was just an issue I ran into while typing on my ipad with the bluetooth keyboards and I found it a bit frustrating.  I am not a Mac user/owner so I was not aware that at first Apple computers did not even have a delete key, only a backspace key.
Thanks for the dialogue on this issue.  I consider it closed.

  • Bluetooth keyboard and Pre

This topic started elsewhere, but we were directed to address it here in webOS hardware, so here goes:
I have a Palm bluetooth keyboard I use with my Treo. I stopped by a Sprint store today to see if it could connect. When I clicked on bluetooth connect, the message was something about "looking for bluetooth audio devices," and then it could not locate my keyboard (yes, I want through the same steps on the keyboard as I did with my Treo).
From what I've read here and elsewhere, it appears that the Palm bluetooth keyboard is not compatible with Pre (yet-hopeuflly). Does anyone have any more information abou this?
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Sprint)

    Hello misty and welcome to the forums;
At this time, the bluetooth profiles needed for keyboard pairing are not installed in webOS. This is a feature that could be added by a firmware update, so if it's something you're interested in seeing, I would recommend providing our developers with that feedback at www.palm.com/feedback for possible inclusion in a future update.

  • Bluetooth keyboard eats batteries

I have never particularly liked the bluetooth keyboard because it omits the number keys and the forward erase key. However in the interests of using a wireless keyboard I decide to purchase and use one to see how it goes. I used it for a while and gave up. With the advent of Lion and the use of the trackpad, I decided to try it again.
My problem is that the keyboard goes through a set of batteries every 2 days. This looks as if the keyboard never sleeps. I sleep the computer with which it is paired (iMac 27" i7) before I leave at night. I repeated the experiment with two sets of AA alkaline batteries and 1 set of full charged Apple rechargable batteries. I ended up going back to the wired keyboard and got back my numbers and forward erase.
Am I missing something here, but shouldn't the keyboard sleep automatically? The track pad and magic mouse work fine with no loss of power over such a short period.

Barry, thanks for confirming what I thought should be the case, i.e. it should sleep automatically, as per the Track Pad and Magic Mouse. Like you, I think it is faulty but I cannot remember when I bought it and cannot trace the receipt so I will have to eat the cost..... (sorry to keep using the analogy :-) )
I am not in a hurry to try with a new one since it does have a lot of limitations compared to the full wired keyboard, the only exception being that it does not need wires, of course. I do wish Apple made a full keyboard that was wireless again. My wife still uses the old style full travel key wireless keyboard for that reason, as well as pointing out that the new keyboards from Apple are rather poor ergonomically for touch typists. Form over function I think...
    Again your response is appreciated.

  • Bluetooth Keyboard has a scratched trace - how to fix?

My bluetooth keyboard is the older model (white keys with a clear frame). For a while I have had a few keys that do not register on the computer, but the majority of the keys work fine. after taking my keyboard apart, I found that all of the keys that do not respond are along the same trace on one of the plastic sheets. I also noticed that the trace in question has a tiny section missing (it appears to have been scratched or scraped off).
Is there any way of fixing this? I have reasonable knowledge of how to fix a normal trace, but not when soldering a wire on would melt everything. Any help would be appreciated.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. A suspect a hardware problem, likely a bad screen

  • Bluetooth Keyboard = Qwerty; Built-in = Dvorak.

I have a Powerbook G4 867 with a Dvorak keyboard that I use for typing in English and Japanese. I just got a bluetooth Frogpad™ Left-Handed that when I type it transmits its key signal which is converted into Dvorak, which means when I type a <W> on my bluetooth keyboard I get <,>. I my computer to function on Dvorak for Gaming and Translating and Qwerty for my Frogpad™. Can I set it up somehow that the bluetooth keyboard is recognised as being Qwerty input and the built-in keyboard is Dvorak/Kotoeri, always?

    Hi Doug Doug < /just kidding > —
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Check out the CNET keyboards/"desktop sets" review and the Apple store »» links to (Mac Accessories) Mice & Keyboards. A search in this forum for [ ergonomic OR trackpad OR trackball ] — &/or perhaps in other Apple Discussions forums — may also be helpful.
AFAIK — despite what may be said in their brief marketing descriptions — I haven't noticed that the keyboard components of these "ergonomic keyboards" / "desktop sets" actually work as Bluetooth with OS X (some of the companion mice do — but that's not what you're after). Be sure to do some "reader-reports" research among Mac users before buying. That is, I think that RF, IrDA, &/or other USB alternatives make up most/all of what you're seeking.
But I could easily be wrong — it's hard to "keep up" with this market. I don't believe there's any technological reason we haven't seen more of these (i.e., I'm guessing it's market-driven.) Anyway, I urge you to check the links above, and perhaps to read through results from a Google-Mac search for [ Bluetooth keyboard (ergonomic OR "desktop set") (trackpad OR trackball) ] or other search terms.
I'd be interested to hear back what keyboards you discover. Some of these products are pretty cool...
    Regards,
    Dean
p.s. Is there a reason that you think the Adesso WKB-4000US is Mac-compatible? The page you linked says "Platform: Windows 98SE & Above." I must've missed it; the only "Mac" keyboards I see on their site are these two...
I use Apple keyboard and mouse — and like them a lot — but I honestly don't see any problems with using other technologies for a keyboard, provided that distance and "line-of sight" aren't issues.
