Bluetooth keyboard on boot (not bios)

I was randomly looking up some stuff about bluetooth keyboards being accessible on boot (was hoping for bios level, but not expecting such) when I stumbled on the below linked thread over at Linux Forums posted and troubleshot by an Arch user.  I searched for this info having been posted here in the main forums by that user but it looks like he/she opted to not repost this info.  The post was done back in 2008, so I'm not sure how viable it is as of now and i don't have a bluetooth keyboard worthy of testing this out with (the one I own is too crappy to even use, and is being taken back to the store in the morning) so if anyone would test what's posted here and give feedback, that would be great.  I'm not the original contributor, but I do feel obligated to share what I have found.  So, here you go!:
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/hardwa … -boot.html

I've had similar problems, when the batteries were low or I was in a bad reception distance/area. Also other 2.4 GHz devices like wireless phone could distort the signal. Generally bluetooth isn't the most reliable technology to begin with one reason so many wireless mice and keyboards run their own proprietary radio technology.

Rocketfish Bluetooth Keyboard RF-BTKB2 not working under Windows 7 64 bit
Anyone had successs in this or another Bluetooth Keyboard after a bit of a struggle?  What did you do to get it working?  When I Add Device in Bluetooth it sees the keyboard but enlessly scans for it when I try to select and connect.  The Rocketfish Bluetooth mouse worked just fine.

My friend, i have both, the bluetooth mouse and keyboard here that your talking about. and the keyboard was a struggle to pair with the windows 7 64 bit.... i think i spent 2 days working with it. and i didnt try anything special, i just kept trying to pair
it, and unplugging the dongle and working with it... and after a while. it worked... Lately though, i have been looking into getting a wired mouse and keyboard becuase of the delays and sleep time i have with my current keyboard(rocketfish). supposidly there
is a way around the delays but it disables all the options on your keyboard. IE the media buttons, and web browsing features. and my mouse keeps dieing off too....
Also, after researching these products more, i found that alot of people experienced similar problems with them, Being delays and mouse failure. Even with fresh batteries and all. The products werent meant to be used long term(2-3 years) for extensive use...
I dont know about you but i thinki paid 100 bucks for the pair so thats only 25 bucks a year... Which is kinda silly considering i coulda got a better one that wont cough up on me.
If anyone reading this finds a good wireless keyboard that doesnt delay, and a mouth that doesnt delay...(my biggest concern). Please mention it. i am very interested in.

  • Boot Camp, Aluminium Bluetooth Keyboard & Mighty Mouse not seen by Windows

I recently installed bootcamp (win xp pro sp2), and am unable to get windows to recognise my bluetooth keyboard and mouse. they work fine in OSX, and i know that the bluetooth drivers are good in windows because i can connect to my phone. I think the problem may be with pairing them with multiple computers, because while trying to figure out why it wasnt working i attempted to pair the keyboard with my ibook g4, and was unable untill i removed it from my MBP through system prefs. I have searched high and low and havent been able to find a solution, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

What I have had to do, after booting into Windows, is toggle the mouse and keyboard power off and on. After about 3 or 4 seconds, Windows finally "sees" the input devices and everything works fine. It is a pain, I know.

  • Bluetooth keyboard and booting up bootcamp - HELP!

    Hello
I recently decided to upgrade to a apple bluetooth keyboard.
The problem is that when i try to boot up into bootcamp the keyboard is not detected meaning i can hold ALT to go to the OS selection screen.
I am using a Bluetooth dongle since apple decided to make things difficult and stop selling the bluetooth module in store.
    Thanks in advance.

I've been strugling with the exact same problem. I haven't gotten the wirelss one to work often in selecting boot drive, but I have always gotten my USB non-apple keyboard to work. Recently I started to really trouble shoot it. I tried another wireless apple keyboard (the one prior to the mini) and it didn't work either. I decided then to call apple care and see their opinion. Sadly, they asked me to take my keyboards in (which I thought was silly considering probability). So then I tested my mini-keyboard on another mac and...it worked flawlessly. There is obviously and issue with either a - the mac pro and bluetooth startup time (maybe it is initializing our devices after the window to hold the key) or b - we just have completely messed up bluetooth chips and it would be an issue regardless of being on the MP. Either way, this is irritating.

  • Bluetooth keyboard and mouse not function on BootCamp3.0 + Windows 7

    Hi,
    I am 24'' iMac user.
I have installed boot Camp 3.0 on Windows 7, all devices functions well except bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Both of them cannot be found and paired.
Any one know how to slove this problem?
    Thanks.

Have you tried reading the many other posts on this forum that talk about this issue? It seems that by default the services are not enabled for some peripheral devices. Try right-clicking the bluetooth icon, selecting "show my bluetooth devices" (or similar i dont ahve it in front of me), then right click the keyboard/mouse, go to the Services tab and make sure the services are enabled.

  • When I disconnect my bluetooth keyboard, Safari and Notes won't open the onscreen keyboard

Hi, on iOS 7 when I've dismissed the onscreen keyboard because I'm using my Bluetooth one, but then disconnect my Bluetooth keyboard, I can't get the on-screen one to pop up again in some applications like Safari and Notes. Other applications such as Mail are unaffected.
I Googled this a lot but mostly what comes up are "x tips and tricks for ios 7" articles which don't have anything to do with the problem. The only relavent result that I found recommended I restart my iPad. OK, so I restart my iPad and now the software keyboard works in Safari... That's ridiculous! I don't even want to use my bluetooth keyboard if I have to restart the iPad every time for when I'm not using it!
This apparently affects all bluetooth keyboard models, I use a Logitech FabricSkin folio, but I also have tried it with my Apple Bluetooth keyboard with the same problems.
Tapping in the text area used to bring the keyboard back up, but no more.
Please tell me there is some alternate solution, or a gesture to bring up the keyboard, or something? This is probably the stupidest thing I've seen in iOS 7.
    Thanks

I also have the same problem.  If you turn off Bluetooth, the virtual keyboard won't come back, especially if you're using Bluetooth speakers as well.  Heck, it even rebooted my iPad when I tried this.
I'm very tempted to dump my iPad + Logitech Keyboard if this doesn't get resolved in a timely manner.

  • Apple Bluetooth Keyboard : ESC Key not responding

I'm using an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard with many Apple products (MBA, MBP, iPad) and i have a big problem : The ESC key is not responding. Everything else is working on my keyboard except the ESC Key. Do you know how to fix it ?

    Hello:
It is, of course, possible that the KB has failed....
Try resetting the PRAM.  If that does not help, I think it is time for a new one.

  • Apple bluetooth keyboard function keys not working correctly

My bluetooth keyboard was working fine for a long time, but recently the function keys have stopped behaving normally. The keys labeled for volume controls now affect expose, the brightness keys do nothing. Also, pressing fn+delete doesn't delete characters, it keeps working like a backspace. I've deleted the apple bluetooth plist, reset PRAM and NVRAM, reset the SMC, deleted and repaired with the keyboard, all to no effect. Anyone have any ideas?

Cannot boot my mac mini. When I start from CD and run disk utility i am getting following error msg: "invalid b-tree node size"
That message indicates that one or more of the directories on the drive has become damaged. Disk Utility can usually diagnose such problems, but not repair them.
Suggest you get a copy of Alsoft's DiskWarriot. DiskWarrior can usually fix such problems with no loss of data. There's no need to install DiksWarrior - boot the machine to the CD and run DiskWarrior from that.

  • 10.5.7 - Bluetooth keyboard and mouse not working anymore

Updated to 10.5.7 and since then after some minutes my Appley wireless keyboard and the mighty mouse do no work anymore.
Note that the connection is not lost. When I then turn bluetooth off, the system tells me that the connection got lost and when I turn it on again it works as before. But after some minutes it won't works.
This happens on a new MBP.
How can I solve this problem?

I had similar problem w/logitech bt keyboard and almost threw the **** thing (mac) out the window. but reason prevailed and i did get it working. what i did was to power off the mac and remove the batteries from the keyboard (then had dinner...) then i powered on the mac and from another mac (i dont have a usb keyboard around) i screenshared into the keyboardless mac and deleted the keyboard from the list of bt devices. then i turned on the keyboard and re-paired it (using the screensharing mac). after that it has worked fine and the losing connection issue is better but sadly not gone!
    good luck

  • Mac Mini 2014 with Apple bluetooth keyboard and Magic Mouse

    Hi all,
I'm currently in the process of moving from my old MacBook to a Mac Mini 2014 and I have a couple of questions regarding functionality of the Apple bluetooth keyboard and Magic Mouse with the Mac Mini.
As these are the only keyboard and mouse I have available to me as I currently only have the one computer in the house, I'm wondering how I will pair them with my new Mac Mini (arriving next week for Christmas) without a wired user input device (keyboard or mouse). When I paired them with my MacBook, I of course had its trackpad and keyboard to navigate through the various steps, but as the Mac Mini does not have these, how does the pairing process work? Will I have to get my hands on a wired mouse/keyboard? I'm asking in advance because I need to get my new system up and running to start work on 27th December and so I need to know if I should pick up a cheap wired mouse/keyboard in advance.
My second question relates to the Mac Mini, Apple bluetooth keyboard and Boot Camp. Usually, when I want to boot into Windows on my MacBook, I hold down the Option/Alt key on my MacBook's built-in keyboard to be given the choice of operating systems. Sometimes when I do this using the bluetooth keyboard, it hasn't paired in time and it boots straight into OS X, so I have to wait until that has booted, shut down and then try again. Clearly, this might be a problem on a Mac Mini if I have urgent work I need to complete in Windows, so rebooting over and over until my keyboard finally pairs in time isn't desirable. Any tips here would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help!

If you unpair your BT KB and mouse from the old computer they should pair during the initial setup of the Mini. However, sometimes they donot a wired KB and mouse is required. You can use any USB PC KB and mouse.
Once you get the BT KB to work you can use the Option key on the BT KB while booting to get your choice of OS to boot into.

  • Activating onscreen keyboard while connected to bluetooth keyboard

    Hi,
I have the Apple bluetooth keyboard connected to my iPad 2 and I was wondering if there was way to activate the onscreen keyboard other then pressing the eject key on the top right of the bluetooth keyboard. Its not a concern when I'm close to the keyboard but when I'm further away and want to type something quick without the bluetooth keyboard it can become a hassle. I don't want to disconnect the keyboard and reconnected it either. Any input would be appreciated.

I have found another post that talk similar topic.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12847503#12847503
Looks like the only solution are to either physically turn on/off (the keyboard) or press the eject button on physical keyboard. But when I am at the password screen, swiping up from bottom will not bring up the Control Center to allow me to turn off the bluetooth onscreen. Again I need to open the physical keyboard.
Probably an easier solution is to simply remember to turn off bluetooth before putting away the devices.

  • Bluetooth keyboard no pairing with apple tv

how to use apple tv with bluetooth keyboard.
mine will not pair or discover. I know it works because I am using it on my iPAD.

    Hello SKBright,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Apple TV: Using the Apple Wireless Keyboard
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5633
    Troubleshooting your keyboard
If you are unable to see your keyboard when you attempt to pair it with Apple TV, check that your keyboard is:
Powered on and in range of your Apple TV
    Set for discovery or pairing
A blinking LED indicates that the Apple Wireless Keyboard is in the discoverable mode. If you don't pair your keyboard with your Mac within three minutes, the indicator light and keyboard will turn off to preserve battery life. If this happens, press the On/Off switch to turn your keyboard on again.
When using third-party devices, check with the keyboard manufacturer for additional information.
Not paired or connected to another device
If your keyboard responds intermittently or cannot maintain a connection:
Ensure that the keyboard has sufficient charge or fresh batteries
Check for nearby sources of interference, including other wireless devices, Bluetooth transmitters, and so on
Try unpairing and then repairing your keyboard with Apple TV
    Best of luck,
    Mario
