Bluetooth keyboard repeating keys

I am experiencing a a problem with a bluetooth keyboard. After a while (> 1-2 minutes), when I am not using it and starting typing, my keyboard repeats first (sometimes second) character about 8 times. I am having this issue only on linux, on windows everything is fine. Do you have any idea how to track this problem? Is this kernel module fault or bluez?

It looks like apple knows about this and made a firmware update for the keyboard. look here http://support.apple.com/en-us/ht4010
I will test if it works and get back to you guys
*UPDATE*
I was unable to install the update. The mac I used told that no keyboard was present even if it was paired with the mac.
Any how. I found another thread, where they explained that apple do not officially state a reset function for the keyboard. But a user might have found it.
basically, unpair the keyboard and then re-pair it. The trick is to hold down the power button throughout the entire pairing proccess (it's a two hand job)
I am testing it now and as of writing there is no problem with repeating keys. Then again I read somewhere that the apple keyboard can have issues with waking up after idling on non apple machines.
Let's see. I'll get back to you on it

The only way to get it back is with a Terminal command hack.

  • Aluminum Keyboard Repeat Keys after 10.5.7

I have a white 2.16 Intel Core 2 Duo. I bought an aluminum keyboard for it. After installing 10.5.7 my keyboard repeats keys, delays responses, etc. I thought the keyboard might be bad so I replaced it under warranty. The new keyboard does the exact same thing. The KB is plugged directly into the USB port on back of the imac. Anyone have any thoughts? For now I am using the old white keyboard that came with the imac and it works perfectly---even though it doesn't feel as good as the aluminum keyboard.

    Hi Jacob,
First, try resetting the SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
If that doesn't help, download and install the 10.5.7 combo update available here.

Run Disk Utility and repair permissions when it's finished.

  • Apple bluetooth keyboard function keys not working correctly

My bluetooth keyboard was working fine for a long time, but recently the function keys have stopped behaving normally. The keys labeled for volume controls now affect expose, the brightness keys do nothing. Also, pressing fn+delete doesn't delete characters, it keeps working like a backspace. I've deleted the apple bluetooth plist, reset PRAM and NVRAM, reset the SMC, deleted and repaired with the keyboard, all to no effect. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hello k:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Out of curiosity, in system preferences>keyboard is the f1..f2… box checked?

  • Bluetooth Keyboard  - Some key don't work

    Hi friends,
I have a 2011 (intel based) 27'' iMac with the bluetooth keyboard. I have two non working keys (control and 1).
There's a way to repair it? My iMac doesn't have warranty and I would like to repair it. What can I do??
Note: I remove the key and see everything fine, but still don't work.
    Sorry for my bad english.

    Hey KDCruz,
Thanks for the question. Let's see if we can isolate the issue further, the following article has some great troubleshooting steps:

  • Apple Bluetooth Keyboard : ESC Key not responding

I'm using an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard with many Apple products (MBA, MBP, iPad) and i have a big problem : The ESC key is not responding. Everything else is working on my keyboard except the ESC Key. Do you know how to fix it ?

    Hello:
It is, of course, possible that the KB has failed....
Try resetting the PRAM.  If that does not help, I think it is time for a new one.

  • Bluetooth keyboard delete key

I have used three different Bluetooth keyboards with my ipad2 and on everyone of them the delete key performs like a traditional back space key, deleting anything to the left of the cursor, not to the right of the cursor.  Am I missing something here? Is there a way to make the delete key operate like the one on a traditional keyboard?

Skydiver, you are right in the movements of the two keys on traditional keyboards; and, when I looked, the Logitech bluetooth keyboard does NOT have a backspace key, only a Delete key that operates like a traditional backspace key (deletes from right to left).  However, the Kensington ipad portfolio with a built-in/detachable bluetooth keyboard DOES have both keys, but they both operate like a backspace key.  The Vivitar brand ipad portfolio with built-in bluetooth keyboard ALSO had both keys, but operated only like a backspace key.  I was just wondering if it had something to do with my ipad (which apparently it does since it's an Apple product based on further research), or if I was just missing something.  This was just an issue I ran into while typing on my ipad with the bluetooth keyboards and I found it a bit frustrating.  I am not a Mac user/owner so I was not aware that at first Apple computers did not even have a delete key, only a backspace key.
Thanks for the dialogue on this issue.  I consider it closed.

  • Bluetooth Keyboard Fn-Key lock on Linux

    Hi,
I just received my Bluetooth Keyboard, and I really love it. Except the Fn-ESC (i.e. FnLk) function doesn't work in Linux, which is almost a show stopper, since I REALLY need the F1-F12 keys to work properly. In Windows, Fn-ESC works nicely with the driver installed, so now I'm looking for a way to enable the F1-F12 keys in Linux, too. The most important question is: Who does the switching?
Does the Windows driver just translate the application hotkeys (i.e. Volume up, down, Mute, etc.) into the corresponding F1-F12 key or does the keyboard actually change the keycodes it sends?
In the latter case, that would mean that upon pressing Fn-ESC, the Windows driver just sends some signal to the keyboard, telling it to switch the F-keys to legacy mode. Then I'd really like to know what kind of signal that is so that I can implement something similar in Linux.
Oh and btw, I do know that I COULD just press Fn-Alt-F4. But try doing that with one hand. On top of that, it's even bugged, since the order in which you press Fn and Alt is significant. That is, if you press Alt-Fn-F4, it doesn't work. It would have been nice if the Fn-ESC functionality had been implemented in the keyboard firmware itself and didn't require some windows driver...

I think I found the official driver here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=PD026503
Also, I found out why mine stopped working. I had disabled several start up services which appear to be related to the keyboard. I don't know if all of them are required but re-enabling them made the FnLk work again.
    Here are the services:
    Set Mouse Speed function
    file: SetSpeed.exe

    file: MainCpl.exe
    publisher: none listed
    unsigned
windows location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\ThinkPad Compact Keyboard with TrackPoint driver\maincpl
I don't know if those are installed for Linux, but it might help in your troubleshooting,.

  • Bluetooth Keyboard arrow keys

When using Keynote to view a presentation created in Powerpoint, sometimes the formatting needs adjustment. For repositioning multiple objects (or fields) you can select the objects and "group" them. And, those groups can be dragged to a new position (if your fingers are small enough). If a "bluetooth keyboard" is attached, can the arrow keys be used to "move" the object(s) since there is no mouse? This would really make life easier when creating slides in Keynote. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Keyboard repeats letters, erases multiple letters and generally goes crazy. Also screen goes off center and too large for frame.

  • Apple Bluetooth Keyboard volume key glitching since IOS 7 ?

At first after installing the IOS7 the system couldn't find my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard.  After a few reboots it was found but the increase volume doesn't affect the volume it now changes the desktop as if I was clicking the mission control. The decrease volume doesn't do anything.

Found the answer from the forum to go to Sys Pref.  Sorry thought it was a glitch.

  • Ultra 10 Keyboard repeating keys after 2.5.1 install

I have an Ultra 10 that I'm installing a special 2.5.1 jumpstart assisted install on. I get through the initial install sequence and the Ultra 10 reboots, when it comes up to the console login prompt, hitting any key yields multiple keypresses (1 quick press will yield 10-20 keypresses!). During the boot sequence, one of the status messages says " loadkeys: ioctl(KIOCLAYOUT): timer expired". I know this has something to do with the issue. I have a type 6 keyboard, as well as a type 5c keyboard, however I believe this version wants the plain old type 5 sun keyboard in order to function normally under this ancient OS. I can hit the stop-a command, and the keyboard functionality will work as I expect at the OK prompt, but attempting to use it under the kernel is impossible.
I have attempted to log in via terminal, but this has not worked (I even have a manual describing how to do this, but no connection is ever made). I know new sun os's installed on this machine have normal keyboard functionality, and I also believe that there have been patches to address this issue.
    Questions:
    1. Does anyone know how to work around this w/o a type 5 keyboard.
    2. Is there a way to boot in separately and apply a patch to fix this / or make an adjustment so this does not occur?
-Thanks in advance for any input on this one-

    Ouch !
Haven't seen that one in years !
It's your choice of that ancient Operating Environment, combined with a cpu faster than 419MHz.
I hope you still have the extra OECD disk that was packed with that system when it was first shipped from Sun.
Otherwise you may just be out of luck with using Solaris 2.5.1

    Hi Jacob,
Did you make any progress solving this? I have got a MacBook Pro and got the same problem since the 10.5.7 update. Keys start repeating at random. I don't use an external keyboard ever so I suppose that is not related, I first thought that I touched the trackpad or anything but after some time got convinced that was not the problem. Regards.

  • Bluetooth keyboard K810 and mouse T630 at the same time, repeating keys and mouse starts to stutter

    I use a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2, Windows 8.1(core edition), x86 (32bit).
If I pair a Bluetooth keyboard K810 and mouse T630 at the same time, with Wifi On, the keyboard starts repeating the keys and the mouse starts to stutter. Especially if WiFi is under load (when downloading something).
This doesn’t happens if I pair only the keyboard, or if I pair mouse and keyboard with Wifi OFF.
If I pair a Bluetooth keyboard and use a USB mouse with Wifi ON, everything works fine.
If I pair a Bluetooth mouse and use a USB keyboard with Wifi ON, everything works fine.
I think it is an issue with two Bluetooth devices paired at the same time with Wifi ON.
    So here is a summary:
BT mouse and BT keyboard / Wifi ON ----> repeating chars and the mouse starts to stutter (bug)
BT mouse and BT keyboard / Wifi OFF ----> works fine
Only BT keyboard / Wifi ON ----> works fine
Only BT mouse / Wifi ON ----> works fine
USB mouse and BT keyboard / Wifi ON ----> works fine
USB keyboard and BT mouse / Wifi ON ----> works fine
Where is the problem? Is there any solution?
    Solved!

I have solved the problem. In the Wlan-Drives-Settings there is the "Bluetooth Collaboration" option. I put the value to "Disable" and now works everything like charm.

  • Bluetooth keyboard has sticky keys after waking up from sleep!

Hey guys, I'm using the newest Apple bluetooth keyboard (A1314) with an iPad running 4.2.1. The keyboard works great if I'm using it constantly - I can sit for hours and type away with no problems. However, if the keyboard sits for a few moments and goes to sleep, then often when I wake it back up, the keys will "stick". Not physically - just in software. Any key on the keyboard will do it, so I know it's not a particular key causing the problem. If I power cycle the keyboard, it works fine after pairing back up. Batteries are fine.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

I have been having problems with repeating keys on my iPad 2.  I purchased a Zaggmate keyboard case which I love, but the last two weeks, it started repeating keys - not just one key - any key.  The last letter I type before pausing gets repeated and will fill an entire page with that letter.
I tried hooking up my Apple Bluetooth keyboard and the same thing happened.  This leads me to believe that the issue lies with the iPad and not the keyboards.  I've rebooted my iPad and it seems to be accepting the Apple bluetooth keyboard now without repeating keys. In one second, I'm going to fire up the Zaggmate keyboard and see what happens - stay tuned....
Well, I've fired up the Zaggmate and it appears the reboot of the iPad has solved the issue.
Very strange and MORE THAN A LITTLE IRRITATING!
