You can find the Apple Bluetooth card on eBay for as little ten dollars (says its for the 2008 model Mac Pro, not sure about the 2007).

Here is a link to a full explanation of the card and how to install it. Part numbers may differ a bit as that is an old article and newer models have come out.

Just make sure that the part will work in your model Mac Pro. To that end, you may be better off avoiding eBay and going to a parts reseller. There are even third party cards that use the internal Apple bluetooth slot.

In theory, using a USB or PCI card will work at login so long as it is recognized by Apples drivers. You say you need to launch an application to use your current USB Bluetooth dongle? If it is not controlled by the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar then it must be using a third party driver of some sort. Unfortunately, I don't know off hand which USB and PCI cards are supported.

  • Belkin Bluetooth not working in Mac Pro 2007

    Hi,
I've got a Mac pro 2007 and bought a Belkin Mini Bluetooth adapter via the Apple Store (http://store.apple.com/nl/product/TW622ZM/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY). I was hoping if I bought something from the Apple store It would work.
The mini adapter seems to work, Look at screenshot https://picasaweb.google.com/aseesink/Bluetooth#5598441276491332930 Apologize for the dutch screenprint, but the mark before "Detecteerbaar" can be translated by "detectable".
But if I look at the system preferences I see this: https://picasaweb.google.com/aseesink/Bluetooth#5598441278085536498 Translated it means Bluetooth is disabled. To use bluetooth you need to enable it. But both checks are grey and I cant change anything in this screen.
I did a check (without the belkin mini bluetooth adapter) on my Mac Book and it detects my Nokia telephone.
Using the Belkin mini bluetooth adapter in my Mac Pro it does not pickup any bluetooth signal.
I also tried to do a  PRAM reset in my Mac Pro, but that doesn't change anything.
In the system overview (about this mac) https://picasaweb.google.com/aseesink/Bluetooth#5598442444721135026 it looks like the adapter is working. But from my experience it is not working.
Is there anyone else who got this adapter working? Would love to use my magic mouse with it.
Thank you in advance for helping.
    Andre

    Problem solved!
I just found an interesting article here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13263724#13263724
The part with bluetooth explorer worked for me.
I can see all my bluetooth devices now including my magic mouse.

  • I have a mac pro 2007 model. It appears I have a corrupted sector on my the hadrive tha has my operating system. If I use the install disk that came with is (Tiger) can I still get my lion back.

I have mac pro 2007 model given to me, I updated it to lion about six months ago, and I do not have a time machine.
Lion stopped loading before I get to the login screen,
I tried all the tips, doing a option/shift/v. I noticed several fsk_dsk errors that it could not fix on my boot drive.
Restore would not work either. The only physical copy I have is the install disk that came with the mac. I think it is Tiger.
If I put this operating system on will I be abel to upgrade it to lion, and if so will I have to pay again?

The Lion Recovery Partition has its own index. Your Macintosh HD partition is the one with the troubles.
If Disk Utility cannot fix it, you may need to apply different Utilities, such as Disk Warrior.
Some readers suggest that the best disk repair is to erase the drive and restore it from your Backups.
This might be a good time to consider getting a new drive to have on hand. This would allow you flexibility in copying, fixing, and (if needed) replacing the drive with the problems.

Well, there are tricks in the Internet to install OS X Mavericks in that computer based on the use of emulators (because you cannot run OS X Mavericks due to your Mac firmware). However, they are risky and illegal, and we cannot provide support for them.
Instead, you can only upgrade your Mac Pro to OS X Lion officially > http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion

  • Mac Pro 2007 can't upgrade to Yosemite

    Hi
I am unable to upgrade to Yosemite. Is it possible or do I have to give away my Mac Pro 2007 and get a new one?
    Please advice.
    Thanks!

    Start here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
After download and before running do some housekeeping:
Make a Lion installer (this is for flash but I used a small partition on another disk drive to be faster)
    http://liondiskmaker.com/
I recommend installing on another drive, formatted with Lion Installer.
Now would be an excellent time for an SSD. Other than using a 2.5" adapter don't feel there is anything special EXCEPT to install TRIM Enabler.

The SSD was the biggest improvement in 8 yrs. The XP941 would be faster and leave you with 4 drive bays.

Is the only PCI device that boots all Mac Pro models, does not use a 'controller' only an adapter to use M.2 style in PCIe (and unique to Mac Pro that it will boot while PCs X99 still have new BIOS our 8+ year old EFI works, something that cannot be said for Sonnet Tempo Pro SSD card and others).
Just a hint and push into the world of SSD

  • Mac Pro 2007 No Power to Hard Drives

While changing hard drives in my Mac Pro 2007 (model 2,1) today, I apparently shorted something out and there is no longer power being provided to any of the hard drives or the super drive. On first boot attempt, the fans went into over drive and I smelled something burning, so I quickly turned it off and reinstalled the original drive.
I am able to boot up off a Yosemite installer USB flash drive and run Disk Utility - confirmed that none of the disks are visible. Everything else on the computer seems to be running fine.
Does this sound like a power supply issue or I have a fried something on the main logic board?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Using Magic Mouse without a  bluetooth enabled Mac Pro?

Is there a solution to use the Magic Mouse since I don't have a bluetooth enabled Mac Pro??

Buy one of the small USB adapters by Belkin that support bluetooth. The only catch with my Magic Mouse has been that you have to leave the computer on -- do not let it go to sleep. Once it sleeps, you have to go back to your USB mighty mouse, restart the MP, and then you will have full access to your Magic Mouse again.
This is not an issue for me since I leave the Mac on all the time. It puts the display to sleep, the hard drives to sleep, and everything else to sleep, except the machine itself. It works, and it's easy.
Another catch with this setup is that it does not seem to work on Bootcamp in Windows 7, but the USB mouse seems to take care of that archaic OS just fine.

  • Bluetooth on Mac Pro

I have a 2 x 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro and just ordered and received a Magic Trackpad. When it arrived I discovered that it is a bluetooth device. I have a D-Link Bluetooth DBT-120 dongle. I plugged the dongle into my MP but the computer and trackpad did not pair up. Am I missing something? Do I need a different dongle? I am running 10.7.2.

This http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3043 specifically mentions your device, but says it works with the wireless keyboard and mouse, and doesn't specifically mention the trackpad. Maybe some of the links in the article will help.

  • Upgrade mountain lion to mac pro 2007

Have older Mac Pro, early 2007. Can I uprade to Mountain LIon . The online requirement says 2008 or later

If you are willing to endure the crushing complexity of it, there is a Hackintosh solution that allows the loading of EFI-64 work-alike software in RAM (rather than in firmware). This would allow the loading and running of 10.8 on your "too-old" Mac if this is exceptionally important to you.
    • This solution may require additional RAM, which is quite expensive for these older Macs.
    • If you have serious problems, there is no support available for such a set-up.

  • Mac Pro 2007 with 3 displays?

    I have a Mac Pro 2,1 (late 2007).
I'm running 2 displays via my Nvidia quadro fx 4500 video card. These are standard DELL 22" monitors (DELL 2208WFP)
I'd like to run QT videos (via my music software DAW) to a Toshiba 42" LCD screen. It has old VGA input (along with S-Video and RCA).
I'm currently using a FW Canopus box to do this (via S-Video), but it's no longer behaving well with my softwarre MOTU Digital Performer 8) and OS (10.6.8).
Is there any way I can run this 3rd diplay (Toshiba) without having to install a 2nd video card? (i.e. will a DVI 'splitter' do this?).
    Thanks!

Matrox makes a "Triple Head2Go" device that will split computer video over multiple screens.

Or, if you want a real HDTV signal, look for a card from BlackMagic or AJA.

  • Is Mac Pro 2007 compatible with new 6Gb/s SSD harddrive?

    Hi,
I'm using my old Mac Pro from 2007 for music production. It works very well, but I want to upgrade it with a new SSD harddrive.
Is the Mac Pro from 2007 compatible with a new SSD SATA 6GB/s harddrive, like a Crucial MX100?
As I see it, there are three possibilities:
    1) It will run fine.
    2) It will run, but only on half the speed (3GB/s).
    3) It will not run.
    What will happen?
    Thanks for helping me out.
    All the best,
    Anders from Denmark

    RE: SATA Bus speed:
Most Rotating drives available today, whatever their SATA spec, can source data off the spinning platters no faster than about 125MBytes/sec.
SATA 3 is rated at 6G bits/sec, which theoretically is about 750 Mega Bytes/sec
SATA 2 is rated at 3G bits/sec, which is theoretically about 375 Mega Bytes/sec
SATA 1 is rated at 1.5G bits/sec, which is theoretically about 187.5 Meg Bytes/sec
None of the SATA Busses is a bottleneck for consumer Rotating drives you can buy today. Trying to speed up the SATA Bus will not provide any real-world performance increases for Rotating Drives.
Even most common SSD drives are not bottlenecked by SATA 2.

  • Why is Mountain Lion not available for Mac Pro 2007???

Why is Mountain Lion not available for Macpro 2007 eventhough this computer is not having old generation hardware like of 15years ago's computers!! I am surprised to know about that. when this mac pro have 2 xeon processor, 8GB ram, OS 10.7.5 (Lion) etc etc. so why is this not compatible for mountain lion???
Very Sad for us - the buyer of so costly Macpro ....
so does the Apple want to say we should buy or upgrade our purchased costly apple products every 5 years ??!!

This is a user forum. We are all users like yourself. Conjecture about Apple's products is not appropriate discussion in these forums.

  • Frozen mac pro 2007

    Hi guys ,
Yetserday is was working in logic pro 9 when all of a sudden the image froze and lines appeared on my screen.
The audio kept running but i could not stop logic.
I had to shut down the mac using the power button.
When i start up now , the lines are still there. You see the apple logo and loading wheel appearing but when they go away the mac does not go to desktop view.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem is and how to solve it ?
I have the 8 core mac pro from 2007 and i'm runnig os x 10.6.8

    the bar fills up
It is doing the equivalent of Disk Utility (Repair Disk) while starting up. It then loads only a minimal set of Drivers, but NO third-party Drivers and NOT including the graphics card driver, and re-draws the screen in simple mode.
If "the stuff" does not show on your screen in simple mode, your graphics card may have died.
The only thing simpler is to Alt/Option Boot, because that code is all in ROM. If you cannot see the Icons for every bootable Volume, that is likely a graphics card problem.
