Bluetooth module no longer recognised in Mac Pro

My Mac Pro's been doing some strange things recently.
A couple of days ago I noticed things were running very slowly, just moving windows about they would jerk and jitter.
Tried hardware test, disk utility etc but no problems found. I then unplugged the machine and plugged it back in - problem solved.
Now today I started up the machine, go to login to my account and my keyboard and mouse don't work. They become initialised if I unplug and plug them back in, or if I wait about a minute they start working.
Along with this, my bluetooth module is no longer recognised under Mac OS X, although when I reboot my machine into Vista the module is recognised and functions correctly.
It also takes over minute to shut the machine down, which it has never done before. When turning it off the OS seems to quit quickly, but the screen remains black for a long time before the power is cut the the drive etc. (This is especially noticeable when restarting the machine as it takes more than twice what it has done in the past).
Is this all just coincidence that these things happened at the same time, or are they related?

Have you tried the standard debugging steps listed in the troubleshooting guides here and elsewhere?
You might try looking at http://www.thexlab.com and other websites like that for information about how to debug various problems.
If you are OK with opening your case, you can also reset the SMC controller on your motherboard, which can affect at least some of the subsystems you are having trouble with.
But first, you need to do more general diagnostics.
Run your MacOS hardware diagnostics by putting your OS boot CD in your optical drive, and hold the D key down when you boot.
You can also hold down C when booting and when the installer appears, go to the menu and run Disk Utility, and verify at least your primary drive.

It probably won't work. Some USB PCI cards will work out of the box with OS X even though the manufacturers don't specifically support it. This ad does not list the card manufacturer or chipset so it's very difficult to tell much about it. Furthermore it states that to modify the settings it requires a Windows-based Utility. Unless the seller has a good return policy I wouldn't buy it.

  • Logitech bluetooth mouse not found on restarting Mac Pro

    hi
for some time now I have been using a logitech V270 bluetooth mouse with my Mac Pro which has a bluetooth 2.0 card installed. all works fine except that when i restart my Mac Pro the mouse is generally not automatically detected and i get the 'bluetooth mouse setup' screen with the message 'there isn't a mouse connected'. i then need to press the reset button on the mouse and go through the usual connection procedure.
i wonder i anyone has any advice as to how i can get this set up so that the Mac Pro automatically connects
    thanks

    Hello all -
I found a solution to this by using Bluetooth Explorer. I had previously tried this and it didn't work, however I realized that I was using an old version of Bluetooth Explorer! When I downloaded the newest version from apple, it worked like a charm and I was able to select which Bluetooth adapter I wanted to use. Switched it over to the USB dongle and it works perfect now. No more skipping mouse, woo hoo!

  • Ipad mini not recognised by Mac Pro (OSX 10.6.4)

I have an ipad mini (6.1.3) I have connected it to my Mac Pro (OSX 10.6.4) via the thunderbolt/USB lead supplied. The device is not recognised in the finder or in itunes, though it does charge via this port. Is this an issue with my OS version? My itunes version? Is there a simple fix?

An iPad isn't designed to mount as a drive in Finder, it should only appear in iTunes and (if you have photos on the iPad that were taken with it, copied it to it via camera kit, saved from emails/websites) then it should also appear in iPhoto, Image Capture and Aperture so that you can copy them off.
But I think that you need iTunes 10.7+ to sync an iPad Mini running iOS 6, which I think requires OS X 10.6.8+

  • IPod Touch 2g no longer recognized by Mac Pro

Earlier this week my Mac Pro stopped recognizing my 2g iPod Touch (doesn't show up in iTunes at all).
    So far I've tried:
    * Using a different USB port (ports tried work fine with other peripherals)
    * Restarting the iPod
    * Restarting the Mac
    * Deleting & recreating iTunes library (per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451)
    * Deleting & reinstalling iTunes (per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224)
    * Wiping iPod
    * Deleting & reinstalling Mobile Device support (per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747)
Despite all of this, the Touch fails to show up in iTunes -- the cable & iPod are fine, as they sync properly with our iBook (which, unfortunately, has none of my media on it, nor the disk space for it).
    What's the next step?

I wouldnt think it is un-fixable, just have to narrow down where the issue is.
Im assuming since you reinstalled iTunes that the current version(8.2.1) is installed. When you uninstalled iTunes, did you just do iTunes and the iTunes helper? or did you remove all of the plist files as well?
I would follow http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747 to remove apple mobile device and do http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224 all the way through including the com.apple.iTunes files and then reinstall iTunes so that it replaces both iTunes and AMDS at the same time.
Is the iPod charging when its connected?
I do apologize for acknowledging that you said the iPod did work on your Macbook in your first post.

  • Personal Hotspot no longer recognised by Macbook Pro

I occasionally use Personal Hotspot to keep our Macbook Pro (minimally) up to date while travelling.
Personal Hotspot was a convenient, easy to use and inexpensve tool. But it no longer works.
Our service supplier suggested updating the iPhone to IOS 6.0.1 and pairing will work. Did that, no change!
Since I last used Personal Hotspot the Macbook pro software has been rebuilt following a disk crash (Mac OS X 10.6.8).
Personal Hotspot is enabled on the Iphone. The iphone is connected by a USB cable. The iphone is not appearing in the list of network services. In the past this was automatic.
    Any suggestions out there?

Oh dear. No replies seems to imply this is a thing that can't be fixed at all.

  • My iPhone 5 is no longer recognised by Mac computer in iTunes .

Following  iPhone 5 upgrade to ios8 I had problems with my phone sending texts in some else name, with whom I share iTunes accounts.it also made his phone ring . Having been advised to go into settings then General then handoff and switching them off ,my phone now operates independently but does no longer appear on iTunes screen  on our home Mac and will therefore not sync either via wifi or whin connected. What do I need to get this fixed?

  • Huawei e220 is suddenly no longer recognised on mac 10.6

    Hi guys,
I've tried all the solutions i can think of concerning my current problem. I've upgraded to Snow Leopard for almost 2 months now and my Huwaei e220 usb modem has been working fine although i have to admit, slower than when i was running Leopard. All of a sudden both my MacBook Pro and Mac mini do not recognize the modem anymore. The modem does not even blink. I've tried all ports on my mac, have installed and uninstalled both the vodacom software(my network carrier in South Africa), and have also tried the modem on a windows XP computer and Vista computer but to no avail. None of the computers pic up the modem. Have also called Vodacom and they concluded i should check my computer. All the ports on my Macs are fine as they pick up all my other devices.
So am asking, has anyone had this issue, if so, did you manage to find a solution. Am just dreading the thought that my only option might be to purchase a new modem and I really need connection now as am completing my postgrad with heavy research over the internet.
I just thought to post this as a last option in case someone has had a similar problem. Any help or advise you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks as i wait in anticipation of your responses.
    ike1851

Hey K T, thanks for the reply. I actually got a new one the same day. I inquired at Vodacom in South Africa here and they confirmed that the modem had packed up. It could be repaired but the cost will be almost as buying a new one so i got a new one. I originally thought it was something to do with my Mac and of cause was trying to see if I could avoid buying a new one.
    Thanks again.
    Cheers.

  • Sony Camera no longer recognised after Mac OS 10.4 upgrade

I use Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 and just upgraded to Tiger.
When I start up FCP I get a message I have no camera connected.
But checking the System Profiler I can see the Sony DCR-TRV33 on the Firewire bus.
I also checked iMovie, and there's no problem there. It shows Camera connected.
Do I have to update FCP? (I haven't found an update) or should I do something else? or did i make a mistake uograding to Tiger?

What you are describing is often caused by a dorked install of Quicktime as FCP uses QuickTime to do its capturing.
You might try reinstalling it (don't leave out any steps). Go to /Library/Receipts. Trash all QuickTime related .pkg files (Don't worry, you're only deleting receipts). Go to www.quicktime.com and download the latest installer and run it. Reboot.
    Post back,

  • Where can I find a bluetooth module for my 2004 Power Mac G5?

Title says it all. Im trying to use a magic mouse I just purchased and I didnt know my G5 didnt have bluetooth card. I cant seem to find anywhere to buy one or even find which one I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why not just use a bluetooth dongle?  For example an Iogear GBU421.  There's plenty of others.  Just stick something like "bluetooth adapter" into google.
Note, I don't know about the software side of using BT on the G5 with your version of the OS, i.e., whether the bluetooth preference pane gets enabled along with the enhanced mouse preferences.

  • USB is no longer recognised by Macbook Pro

I was trying to follow the instructions from this website: http://www.macworld.com/article/2056561/how-to-make-a-bootable-mavericks-install -drive.html
to help my friend reboot her laptop. Prior to this my USB has never had a problem, and I was preparing for it to be a boot disk, via the Option 2 instructions from that link.
Now I'm getting a disk error (see below) and the USB is unrecognised in DU and cannot be partioned or erased:
"Disk Erase failed with the error: POSIX reports: The operation couldn’t be completed. Input/output error"
Would really appreciate the help, thanks!

  • Mac pro and bluetooth/ m. mouse bt

    hi!
i bought a new mac pro last week! it's my first apple computer and i'm so exciting.. but there's a problem..
i have the bt and airport module built in, now i have also the bt apple mouse and keyboard.. the keyboard is ok, but the mouse is slow and skip in the screen... i also used an alternative driver/software but the usability is the same.. now i called Apple phone service and they send my a new kit bt (mouse and keyboard)..
i read that many people have the same problem.. well, what can i do in order to fix the bt problem with my mouse wireless?
there's a pic's guide? help me! anyway can i add a dolgle bt?
    thank's a lot guy!
    sorry for my bad english

Very interesting. After reading your post I was reminded of some threads I looked over weeks ago and forgot about, relating to this very problem.
I unfortunately assumed that I would actually need to open up the case and play with the wires just to disable the internal BT module so that I could connect a BT module.
Then I noticed that a few people seemed to be saying that they connected a dongle without playing with any wires, and things got better.
So I tried it! And it works!
I just plugged my D-Link DBT120 ( http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=34 ) into the back of the cinema display and the internal bluetooth seemed to instantly turn off and switch to the new dongle. Of course with that both the BT keyboard and MM disconnected and I needed to use the old wired MS mouse to get them connected again, but once they were they were at full speed!
The BT MM still isn't anywhere near as fast as the MS wired mouse but it's quite usable and many times faster than it was while using the internal BT module.
Here are a few of the other threads related to this problem:

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3095257

@ imax05 - I'd recommend getting a separate BT dongle. They're quite cheap and fix the problem. I know, it's annoying having payed for an internal BT module but...

I'm having similar problems with a brand-new Mac Pro 8-core. Mouse cuts out (I'm using a wired keyboard thankfully) and my Jawbone headset will work wonderfully with my old MacBook Pro but will only pair (maybe) on my Mac Pro.
Called and spoke with an expert and feel I get the run around. He had me shut down and unplug everything for 30 seconds. I did it but felt he was just having me "do something" to get me off of the line.
Apple has a problem with Bluetooth on their Mac Pros and isn't dealing with it.
