Bluetooth mouse and keyboard do not work

I purchased an iMac G5 about 6 months ago. I got it with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I have had trouble with it from day 1. Apple had me replace the logic unit, and it worked for a couple of weeks. Then as soon as the 90-day warranty for complimentary service ran out, it began working sporadically. Now it doesn't work at all. It says I don't have a bluetooth module installed or attached to my computer (which is what it said before the logic unit was replaced. The computer works fine with a USB mouse and keyboard. Had I known bluetooth was so tempermental and difficult, I sure wouldn't have got it with my computer.
Unless there is a smart person out there who knows what is going on, I guess I need to buy a new USB keyboard and mouse. Anybody interested in buying a bluetooth keyboard and mouse cheap?

Russell,
The warranty period on your mac is 1 year. The complimentry phone service period is 90 days unless you have a hardware problem. I'd say you likely have a hardware problem and will not be charged for the phone call.
I'd suggest 2 things:
1. Sign up for Applecare as has been recommended countless times.
2. Make the call to tech support and see what they say about your problem.
Good Luck,
John

Since i have installed leopard months ago it was working fine but then my mouse and keyboard stopped pairing with my Powerbook it recognises the devices but the refuse to pair i changed the batteries and installed the software that cam ith the keyboard and mouse and still nothing works.
    Can someone help me please

After updating to 10.5.2 I am still experiencing problems with my Apple wireless mouse and keyboard. This is a Leopard issue ( here is just one blog on the topic
http://aralbalkan.com/1086 ) in 2005 I purchased a Mac Mini which I love and never experienced a Bluetooth problem till I installed Leopard several months ago, now at least once a week, on average 2-3 times a week, I loose connection with the keyboard or the mouse and it takes awhile to re-establish the connection. I was hoping the last upgrade would address this issue but no such luck.

  • Touchsmart 520-1047c Mouse and Keyboard will not work after sleep mode

I have an issue which I need some help with. When my computer goes to sleep the wireless mouse and keyboard will not work unless I restart, however each one will wake the system up but will not operate after that. I have tried just making the display go to sleep, both go to sleep but that makes no difference same issue occurs. The only work around I have found is going into the power settings and turning the sleep mode off for booth the computer and display. This does not solve the problem it just masks it. New batteries, unplugged and replugged the dongle, updated the bios and all drivers. Don't know what else to try. Anybody know how to fix this? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I understand that the mouse and keyboard on your desktop computer does not work if your computer enters sleep mode, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! To correct this issue, I recommend following the steps in this document on Troubleshooting sleep and hibernate issues (Windows 7). This should help enable your system to wake from sleep mode using your wireless keyboard and mouse. I also recommend connecting wired peripherals to diagnose the functionality of your keyboard and mouse. If your system is still not able to wake from sleep mode, please follow the steps below to restore the default power schemes on your computer: Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Command Prompt"
Step 3. Right-click Command PromptStep 4. Click Run as administrator
Step 5. At the command prompt, type powercfg /restoredefaultschemes and press Enter  reference: http://superuser.com/questions/669571/windows-8-1-64-bit-power-schemes-gone Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. • Windows 10 install (64 bit). Mouse and keyboard do not work, can't click through setup configuration.

I've tried with both upgrade and iso installation (starting from Windows 7), but for some reason, after setup is finished and I get into the configuration area (IE, accepting license agreements or choosing network or choosing express setup), I do not have
a mouse and keyboard to do anything with.  The keyboard and mouse are powered, but aren't giving input.  For example, toggling cap's lock does not show up on the keyboard's lights.
Keyboard is Razer Black Widow, mouse is Gigabyte M8000X.  I also tried with a Microsoft wireless mouse/keyboard pair with the Razer unplugged during setup (Reason being, a separate razer setup window would appear during the 'configuring devices' stage).
I am able to install to virtual box, but I've only tried the 32 bit installer.  I have not yet tried the 32 bit installer on the actual machine, and I have not yet tried booting to the CD.

  • MAC Mouse and Keyboard Do Not Work, when I am trying to re-install the OS using "Command R" option

I am trying to re-install MAC OS 10.8.2, but when I hold "command R" I am asked for the firmware password, but the keyboard and mouse do not work.
If I only select "option" during the boot up process it will ask me for the firmware password, keyboard and mouse work, but I can only select the HD option.
Can someone advise what is the problem here, and your resolution.
I have tried different commands "option + command + R' with no luck.

I tried what was provided on the link, but it is not working.
I hold it down, before the gray screen and the chime, but it only prompts but the firmware password.
I tried based on the specific order in the support document and at a random press and hold.
    No go any other thoughts?

  • Can not install windows 7 pro using boot camp as mouse and keyboard will not work Help please

I have a new iMac and trying to install Windows 7 Pro using boot camp. I have reached the stage of starting to load windows from the DVD then discovered the mouse and the keyboards not working so I could not interact with windows installation.

Open, if not so already, the Windows formatter. Identify the BC Windows partition. It will be the one listed with the proper size you created and/or will be labeled as a C: drive. Be careful you select the right one or you may be corrupting the entire drive.
    Format the partition as NTFS.

  • Bluetooth, iSight and Keyboard Backlight not working. Please help!

My Bluetooth stopped working along with my iSight and Keyboard Backlight. I first noticed the weird sign over the bluetooth icon, and it read "Bluetooth not available". I payed no attention to it for a while until I tried to take a picture with Photo Booth and I read "No camera found", for some reason I tried to dim the backlight on the keyboard and a blocked sign appeared under the brightness level, not letting me do anything (Later I was able to use the backlight with the LabTick app). I have tried everything. SMC, PRAM, NVRAM, logging as diferent and new users, booting in safe mode... every solution I have found on the internet has been tested by me. Then I read this about the Hardware Test solution, and surprisingly after performing the Hardware Test no problems were found! So basically my MacBook Pro (mid 2010) is not having any trouble of any sorts with anything. Then why can't I use Bluetooth, iSight or Key backlighting (which only works through LabTick). Given the fact that the hardware test shows no problems I am not comfortable with the idea of taking it to repair. There MUST be something I can actually do to fix these issues.
Does anybody have any idea? I repeat, these are NOT WORKING, NOT FOUND AND NOT AVAILABLE.
    - Keyboard Backlight (Only works through LabTick)
    - iSight Camera (Not found by any software)
    - Bluetooth (No info appears on the system profile, the icon on the menu bar is completely gone)
All three issues happened at the same time, the night before everything was working perfectly fine.
    If anyone could help... please!!!
    Summary:
MacBook Pro Mid 2010 (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP583) Unibody, can't take out the battery.
    Solutions tried:
    - Reset SMC: Turning on while holding Shift + Ctrl + Option + Power Button (This makes my MacBook forget about the battery and start up with really loud fan noise, battery icon appears with an X on it, keyboard backlight buttons work, they show brightness level on screen, but the actual light won't work, no bluetooth, no isight)
-Reset PRAM and NVRAM: Turning on while holding Option + CMD + R + P (I have waited for 2 chimes, 3 chimes and 4 chimes at different times, nothing happens. Light, bluetooth and isight are still gone)
-Holding Power Button for 10 seconds, 20 seconds, longer... nothing changes.
-Creating and logging in as new admin user, nothing changes.
-Deleting the bluetooth.plist file and powering off and on again, also rebooting
-Deleting the SystemConfiguration folder, powering off and on again, also rebooting
-Installing "blueutil", didn't help at all, turned it off via terminal with command blueutil off.
-Performing Apple Hardware Test - Shows no erros or problems on any area after one full hour of testing (Performed the extended testing)
    -Leaving it powered off overnight
Please anyone help meee!! I can't afford going crazy!
Thank you so much in advance!

    i have a 2008 24' imac

    Hi
It is not easy to say much about this issue.
Do you use wireless devices? Are batteries OK?
Have you noticed the same problem using other USB devices?
I presume both devices uses USB port on your notebook.

  • Bluetooth Mouse and Thinkpad T520 not working together at all

    Hi All (first post),
    System:
    Lenovo T520
    Windows 7
    Microsoft Bluetooth mouse
Problem: Not working at all, or working only sporadically.
History: Laptop is a bit over year old (warranty ends in June 2015 IIRC). The sales clerk recommended a bluetooth mouse, so I bought a Microsoft Bluetooth 5000. After the initial pairing difficulties were resolved, they worked swimmingly for about a year. Then I started more and more frequently having to re-pair them (remove device, let Windows find it again, pair them,...). As the mouse had taken a bit of beating, I bought another one a week ago. Didn't really help. The first time I asked Win7 to find the device, it couldn't. The Bluetooth radio was on, and the mouse had a fresh set of batteries, and all the other braindead suggestions of Win7 were eliminated. The bluetooth radio was working, because it detected the neighbors daughter's smartphone through a concrete wall, but not the mouse. I kept pressing the button in the bottom of the mouse that presumably makes it broadcast "I'm here".
I moved to another room. This time detection and pairing up the device went fine. But after I had switched the laptop and the mouse off, and rebooted - nothing happened. I had to go through the remove/add device cycle again. Moving to a different room again. At first nothing. Then Windows finds the device, but gives the error code 0x800070015 (or something like that, not sure about the number of zeros), and fails to configure it.
Any idea what is going on? Why is this becoming progressively worse?
Elsewhere in this forum it was suggested that I should disallow windows to power off USB root hubs. I tried that but it had no effect.
    Regards,
    Jyrki

Sorry. The error code was 0x80004005. This is the code I get from Add Device ->, when I try to enter 0000 as the paring code (suggested by the mouse start guide. If I try to pari them without a code, Control Panel first indicates that the piece of Hardware was added ok, but it before I get any use out of the mouse, the freshly added pic of the mouse disappears. The red/green light on the mouse never stops blinking.

  • Please help!  my iMac keeps freezing, mouse and keyboard do not work after

Early this morning I turned on my iMac and started downloading updates through software update as usual. I was browsing a website in Safari when all of a sudden the "zoom" feature activated itself and I could not turn it off. I restarted and the keyboard started typing different characters but not letters, so I took out my installation CD and it took me quite a while to reboot the computer using the CD as a startup. Since the keyboard had a different input, the C key was not running the CD. I tried loggin into the support page, but it downloaded the links into the desktop. I used system utilities to restart the computer from the CD, I verified the Disk Permissions, then Repaired the permisions, then the Verify Disk and then the Repair disk, in that order. I restarted the computer and everything seemed fine, but after a couple of minutes the mouse starts closing windows, downloading website links into the desktop and then the keyboard freezes and does not let me type! This has repeated over and over, and I don't know what to do!
Posting this message has been quite an achievement, because I have restarted the computer a lot of times in order to finish.
Someone please help! I don't know what else to do!!!
    Thanks!

Yes. And since you aren't backed up, you may have to use Prosoft Data Rescue to try to recovery any information that is critical. First though, do you have another Mac you can hook this one up to using Target Disk Mode?
If you do, that's another way to rescue information. Target Disk Mode is explained here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Similarly, if you have a bootable external hard drive, you can try to boot off that with the Startup manager:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106178
To rescue your information. This at least will allow you to do further analysis to see what data corruption might have happened. If the drive is invisible when booted off another, that may indicate a directory issue. But first let's see if we can attach or boot off another and see the internal drive of the machine.

  • Mouse and keyboard shortcuts not working

I running Firefox 3.6.12 on a Mint 10 Gnome system. Firefox has worked very well for the past month with no problems. Today the mouse quit working when trying to click on any of the pulled down menus at the top, "File, Edit, View..." it also will not work on any pull down menus on screen, address bar, stumble tools... The shortcut keys for the top menu are also not working, Alt F will not pull the file menu down. The mouse works on links and single buttons such as the stumble button or bookmark buttons. Also, right clicking does not work anywhere in Firefox, but works in other programs.
I have rebooted the system and uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I started Firefox in safe mode and everything started working as it should.
Restarted in normal mode and everything is again working, I didn't make any changes.
The theme was set at default as I have never changed it. I installed all the addons when I first got Firefox, no new ones have been added in over a month.
Does starting in safe mode reset the addons and plugins? Curious as to why starting in safe mode corrected the problem.

  • I'm having problems with bluetooth mouse and keyboard. They work for the first 10 minutes then stop communicating.

I have to turn the computer off in order to get control of the computer again. Any ideas of what the problem may be?

You can run Bluetooth diagnostics by holding down the Option key and clicking the Bluetooth icon in the status menu bar.

  • Brand new IMac 27 bluetooth mouse and keyboard not connecting for eight minutes after start up.

I have a new imac 27 that has worked flawlessly for three weeks.
All of a sudden, when starting up the mac boots fine but the bluetooth mouse and keyboard are non responsive. This state is maintained for between 7 and 8 minutes then both mouse and keyboard start working and continue doing so for the rest of the day....until the next restart and the whole saga repeats itself.
Both sets of batteries are fully charged.
I have scoured different sites and tried any suggestion that made any sense, to no avail. All I am able to do at the moment is to do the time, wait the 7 to 8 mins. and then all's good.
My first Mac and this is very annoying especially as Apple must be aware of this issue but no solution is forthcoming!
    Any suggestions/workarounds would be great.
    Thanks

if you are using rechargeable batteries sometimes they don't stay charged for as long as they should try using alkalaine batteries and see if the issue still persists.
also try doing an SMC reset, the following article tells how to do this:

    THANK YOU

I saw this issue before where cause was a bad preference for another application.
When I had the "can't type Shift H" problem in Entourage, it was a corrupt preference for FlightCheck, a preflighting program I use in conjuction with QuarkXPress that was the culprit.
First determine if the problem is in your User’s folder by creating a new User in System Preferences and test for the problem there. If it goes away then you know the problem is in your User’s folder.

It is not possible to use a USB mouse or keyboard on the HP Pavilion g7 2203sd notebook running Windows 8.1.
A wireless mouse used to work (already some time ago), but now wired or wireless mouse and keyboard don't work any more.
I have tried removing USB devices in the Windows Device Manager and let Windows detect them again, but it does not work.
I read somewhere that it might have to do with the xHCI USB controller that is installed.
I tried removing that and connecting the USB mouse but no succes.
I also looked for driver updates or something to disbale in the BIOS (like xHCI), but nothing found for that.
Can anybody help me with this problem.
