Bluetooth non-functional after Vista Sleep

Ok, this is really the only nagging problem with bootcamp and I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed yet.
It doesn't happen everytime Vista sleeps, but usually after 3 or 4 sleeping sessions. The bluetooth radios completely disappear from the device manager and if you scan for hardware changes it sorta hangs. It seems the only way to get them back is a reboot.

  • WAKE UP APPLE. SpotLight & Time-Machine effectively non-functioning after 10.7.5 combo update

I have just done a complete clean restore from Snow Leopard DVD, doing all its Updates. Then, installed Lion from App store and did the 10.7.5 Combo update. (All that took 2 days).
    Time-Machine and Spotlight non functioning....
Turned off Spotlight and Time-Machine got my apps & data back...
Turned off Time-Machine and turned on Spotlight - nothing.
Followed every combination of the many many helpful tips in this discussion group (involving Onyx, Terminal, Console, Privacy, removing all external drives etc etc). Finally Spotlght began to index.....
3 days later, it was about 60% complete but slowing down. I rebooted (nothing else) and now Spotlight has restarted the Index once again and I have 3 weeks to wait now.... (Ihave about 600 Gbyte of data on a 1 Tbyte disk)
Many others have had similar problems
So clearly there is a significant bug in the system - with no sure fire workaround - and no apparent reaction from Apple staff about what they are doing or what sequence of actions one needs to take to resolve this issue.
This is sad - Apple is going the same way as IBM, DEC, Microsoft, Adobe - loading functioning systems with more and more bells and whistles until finally they trip over their own feet with the complexity of the whole works.
I feel entitled to moan - having owned nothing but Apple computers for 30 years.
(I tried to upgrade to Mountain Lion two weeks ago, but the App store installation just froze and Apple say the DVD drive is a dying species and will supply no disks or other media to do proper restores.....!)
ANY IDEAS ABOUT HOW TO WAKE APPLE PEOPLE UP!

Time Machine just doesn't seem to function with lion or Mountaain Lion. I don't know about Spotlight, but I use Intego Backup Assistant for my backup and its doing fine.

  • Problem with the "now playing"-function after timer sleep-mode

At first: sorry for my english.
I have the following problem with the Nano 6G: I set the timer of my iPod Nano to shut it down after a while of playing. When I turn it back on afterwards, the now-playing-button does not show the song that it played at last. Instead of that the nano is automatically set to shuffle mode which was not activated before and the now-playing-button will show any other song randomly.
This does not happen when I switch it to sleep-mode with the button on the top, only when the sleepmode ist activated by the timer.
Does anyone notice the same issue with his nano? How can I bring my nano to play the same song after the sleepmode, that it played before?

Hey Ipaqman, that strange behavior of the Nano 6G annoys me for exactly the same reason: audiobook in bed + sleeptimer = losing the place. As You say, the 5G works better with that and I also hope that Apple takes notice of that issue and will solve it.
Until that I got myself a "workaround". I create a new playlist on the device, with just the single audiobook in it, that is actually in use. This helps me finding back into it, as long as "now playing" will not work correctly with the sleeptimer.

  • Time machine is non functional after last OS update

I am unable to back up my I mac. When I click on the TM button it brings up a prompt that says " You haven't selected a location for time machine backups". When i click "set up Time Machine" it brings up a new TM window that shows the TM is "off". When I click the option on the left that that says "select back up disc", it brings up a new window that has one option only "other Airport Time Capsule". If I click onto that it opens a new grey window with a globe on it and it says "no configured airport base stations have been found. Airport utility will continue searching". If I try to turn the TM to the on position it brings up the same window scenario described above. This worked fine since 2009 and with the last major OS update it went bad....
I was a pc guy before getting our macs and so this world is different, I have had NO problems with any of our macs since 2009, this is the first time and it started with the last OS update...our printer is not working either unless its hard wired to one of our 2 computers...again new issue since the last OS update. I have done a hard reboot on the Airport/TM and that didn't do anything. I wonder if it needs to be reloaded onto the IMAC, not really sure how to do that either.
Thanks for any help/consideration you could give. Peter

You need to do a full reset.. Yosemite wants to control and own everything.
    1. Full factory reset.
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    2. It will now show up in Airport Utility.
Redo the setup but do not accept apple recommended names.. use short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    3. Wireless should have WPA2 Personal with pure alphanumeric password.
    4. Your computer share name is well advised to be short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. (just remember your windows days.. apple is now using windows networking by default.. they began in Mavericks. when did you problems start.. oh yeah.. in mavericks.. hmm.. connected?? I think so!!)
    5. Make sure in network preferences for whatever connection you use IPv6 is set to link-local only.
    6. Manually mount the TC in finder if you still cannot connect in TM. Do this using top menu, Go, Connect to server.
Type in AFP://TCname.local (TCname is your new short name.. local is default domain).
Or AFP://TCIPaddress (eg 10.0.1.1 the IP you can find by the summary on the TC in airport utility).
Type in and save the password for disk access in your keychain.. this is important.
    7. If it stops the day after you set it up.. welcome to Yosemite.. reboot the TC.. make sure it is mounted in Finder and try again.
    8. Use a replacement backup utility.. eg Carbon Copy Cloner to a USB drive.. much more reliable.

  • Bluetooth not working after »Safe Sleep«

Hi, I'm having a problem with Bluetooth on my MacBook (late 2006). Every time my computer has been in »Safe Sleep« and wakes up - the built-in Bluetooth stops working. The Bluetooth-menu in the menu-bar shows "Bluetooth not available". I've managed to reproduce the problem with no exception.
How can this be resolved without rebooting the computer?
I have tried the following to make it work again.
When the MacBook has waken up from Safe Sleep, I can go to system preferences/ Bluetooth and do the following:
    1) turn Bluetooth off
    2) first deselect "Show Bluetooth Status in Menubar" and then reselect it (menu will disappear and then reappear).
    3) turn on Bluetooth on again.
Bluetooth then seems to work correctly, but:
    a) In system preferences "Bluetooth Device Name: Name not available"
    b) applications like iSync/ BluePhoneElite/ Address Book cannot use Bluetooth.
There is not much point in Safe Sleep if I have to reboot the computer anyway. It can work as a backup-solution, not losing my open data, but I cannot continue to use my computer as normal.
It seems like a Safe Sleep/ Bluetooth bug.
    ~ Jørgen
    MacBook (late 2006) Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I am also having the same problem, although I'm on a PowerBook G4 12" 1.5Ghz.
I have an Apple Wireless keyboard and a Logitech BT mouse. The PowerBook is set up not to wake the computer using any BT device.
On two occasions, the computer woke up from sleep because it somehow lost the BT keyboard and mouse connection. Upon close inspection, that shouldn't have been possible, since that option was off.
I subsequently checked the BT preference pane under System Prefs. There, I discovered the following message, "Bluetooth Device Name: Name not available."
The first time, I restarted the computer and everything came back to normal. The second time it occurred, it I decided to log off and log back in. The log in process was fine, but my icons on beside Spotlight wouldn't load, System profile froze when getting more information on my BT module, and System Preferences also froze when trying to access the BT preferences. I ended up restarting the computer, and lo and behold, it worked again.
This has happened twice in the last two months, and I can't replicate the problem. I also can't figure out if this is a hardware or software problem.
I've read posts in the forums that describe BT going missing. This is not the case for me. BT is there, but for some reason BT is there but it's "Name not available."
Plaese let me know if you figure something out.
    Cheers,
    LP

  • Browser is non functional after receiving phone call while streaming audio

If I browse to a site that streams audio and play that audio, when a call comes in I am able to answer the call and hang up but when I go back to the browser it appears that the Quicktime window that plays the audio is in the background behind some kind of black modal window except for a thin space at the top of the screen. About the same size as the window for an active call if you do other things with your phone while in a call. I can still hit the Done button on the top left hand corner but that is the end of it. I can't use the browser anymore until I reboot the phone(which I find myself doing quite frequently since the iOS4 update...it reminds me of my Windows Mobile 5 phone it replaced).

  • Thunderbolt display non-functional after 10.8.2

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro with Retina Display, along with a 27" Thunderbolt display. IT was working well until I noticed that it was no longer detecting the thunderbolt display. I suspect this is after the 10.8.2 upgrade.
When I plug a TB-to-Ethernet adapter in, I can see that the device is detected and everything is happy on both Thunderbolt ports on the laptop (using the system profiler tool).
When I plug in the TB display, it is not detected, the screen stays blank. Going to "detect displays" in the displays control panel does nothing. I have zapped PRAM, reset the SMC, etc. I have found all the software updates imaginable on the Apple web site (although it's possible I missed one). I found some ideas about deleting the windowserver.plist file, but to no avail.
I'm stumped and would love any further thoughts.

After many hours fiddling with the macbook to no avail, I took the TB display down to the Apple store, where they swapped it for a new one, which fixed the problem. Looks like it was a faulty thunderbolt display which they replaced under warranty. Great service from the Apple store there. Was in and out in 15 mins. Top marks.

  • Motion Non-Functional After Install?

I bought and installed Motion a couple of weeks ago, and have thus far been unable to get it to work. It's slow to load, which may be due to the fact that my machine is on the lower end of the acceptable specifications, but when the program opens, the Utility window is the only one which is present (no Project pane, Canvas, or Timing pane), and there is no way to make the missing windows appear.
Also, when I open the Preferences window, the buttons and menus are nonfunctional (the icons at the top of the pane do not appear, and even the window controls don't work). The only way to close the Preference pane is to quit the program.
I've tried to reinstall the program by throwing out the files and receipt and rerunning the installer, but each time the problems are the same after install. Has anyone had a similar problem, or know how this might be solved?

If the UI is missing its usually because the Pro Application Support is missing or out of date for your configuration.
    If you're on Tiger:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/proapplicationsupport31macosx104.html
    If you're on Panther:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/proapplicationsupport31macosx1039.html
If you've installed this in the past, remove the ProAppRuntime.pkg from /Library/Receipts/ This will trick the update to reinstall completely instead of possibly skipping any bits.

  • Non Functional After Ejecting

    Hi,
Ever since I applied the newest update I've had problems with disconnecting. When I disconnect from iTunes it says, ejecting etc.
Once its ejected from iTunes the iPod comes on normally. As soon as I remove the USB cable, the iPod turns off and is non-responsive.
    Any ideas?

I don't think this is the case.
Perhaps this is becoming more of an issue, as I too just replied in a similar thread with the following (no amount of reset or hold switch trickery works, period).
    [copy & pasted]:
Same here. Purchased Friday Oct 19 from macmall.com (repeat customer for life), began charging & syncing Monday Oct 22, and tried to use since with no luck.
It will sync and work correctly when plugged into a USB 2.0 (primary computer for this is PB.G4.17). Upon ejecting, it will say "charging" ad nauseum. Once that white dock connector is removed, however, the screen fades away & you can't get it to turn on no matter what choice of @#$%, reset, hold switch, shake, rattle, & roll is used.
At one point, it went into an infinite loop of restarting (e.g. Apple logo, menu, reboot, wash, rinse, repeat).
Now it's sitting on a 3rd party charger (ExtremeMac); while plugged into the wall I can stand about 12" away from the A/C plug & rock out in my happy place. Once disconnected, puff goes the magic dragon. Plus my elbows keep getting bruised from hitting the wall, and I'm all out of extension cords.
Without the obvious "did you try downgrading the firmware and/or restoring via iTunes?" responses, I feel like my daily endorsements of Apple products as part of consultant work with numerous SOHO's has been a farce.
So, APPL, I'm either trading this in for a share of stock (currently at $186, a whole $6 more than this 3Green nano), since that part of your biz seems to be a lot more reliable than the latest flextronics being pumped out, OR I can pass this off as a Job's "that's technology" lesson & get it serviced properly, nevermind it not having worked (correctly) since day 1.
...and yes, it has the @#%()*&!! tilt-o-whirl screen.

  • Ssh non-functional after Leopard update

    Hi everyone
I upgraded to Leopard three days ago, and I am still trying to solve problems it appears to have created.
One of these problems is that ssh doesn't work.
    Pearl:~ clytie$ ssh 10.1.1.1
    percent_expand: NULL replacement
    Pearl:~ clytie$ ssh -v
    OpenSSH_4.6p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8e 23 Feb 2007
    usage: ssh [-1246AaCfgkMNnqsTtVvXxY] [-b bind_address] [-c cipher_spec]
    [-D [bind_address:]port] [-e escape_char] [-F configfile]
    [-i identity_file] [-L [bind_address:]port:host:hostport]
    [-l login_name] [-m mac_spec] [-O ctl_cmd] [-o option] [-p port]
    [-R [bind_address:]port:host:hostport] [-S ctl_path]
    [-w localtun[:remotetun]] [user@]hostname [command]
    Pearl:~ clytie$
"ssh ADDRESS" or "ssh HOSTNAME" simply gives the "percent_expand: NULL replacement" response, which I don't understand.
(Luckily, we also have a Mac Mini on our home net, which I haven't upgraded to Leopard yet, so I was able to ssh from that machine.)
I am really disappointed that so many things appear to have been broken by the Leopard upgrade. Repairing permissions, restarting and installing new versions fixed some of the problems, but I still can't receive email (separate thread), and I shudder to think what else is broken that I just haven't tried yet.
Thankyou for any help you can offer with this.

    Google finds this fix:
    http://www.nabble.com/ssh:-percent_expand:-NULL-replacement-t4701144.html
    which works for me.
Be careful when copying the config data: trailing spaces cause config errors.

  • D-Link dns-323 non-functional after upgrading to latest OSX

I have a apple airport extreme network, macbook pro, and ipad.
My DNS-323 in which is in RAID1 configuration worked great until latest upgrade to OSX.
Now my devices do not recognize the DNS323 at all.
I am at a loss. I have 12 years of photos and videos on that drive.
    Any troubleshooting ideas appreciated

A slow boot time can be caused by login items.
    User Login Items:
        Flux
        NoSleep
        ClipMenu
        Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector2
        BetterTouchTool
        USBOverdriveHelper
        TotalFinder
        Gmail Notifr
Open System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items
Remove one login item noted above then restart your Mac to test. It may be one or multiple items causing the slow boot.

  • Download/Update buttons non functional after iOS 6 update

Updated iPad 2 to iOS 6 tonight, initially I had the problem when app updates don't start and just hung. Restarted iPad and the updates appeared to have stopped. Went to update all apps again and the button did nothing. This is the same with all new app downloads/iTunes song purchases/individual app updates. The button does change from the price to "get single" or whatever, but the button just does absolutely nothing when clicked upon.
All occurring over wifi, I don't currently have the laptop the iPad is synced with me but will tomorrow.
Can anyone help me with this very frustrating problem?
I have tried restarting iPad, restarting all apps, signing in and out with my apple ID, nothing appears to work. I can't see any downloads hanging in iTunes.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).
iOS devices can only be restored with the current iOS version.
No one here has any way of knowing if a "fix" is in the works, but that would imply there is an iOS issue causing your problem, this is highly unlikely.  More likely, something from your backup is causing an issue or the device has a hardware failure.

  • Power Button only works at startup, but non-functional afterwards.

    For a Macbook Pro 15
    A1226 / OS 10.6.8 / 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    (1) When the computer is on, and i press the power button , the shutdown menu used to come on, but does not now.
    (2) When i press & hold the power button, the computer does not force shutdown, even when i hold it down for 30 seconds.
    (3) When I shutdown the computer via the apple menu, i cannot start the computer up using the power button
    (4) However, disconnecting the trackpad ribbon cable from the logic board, then reconnecting, the power button is operational allowing the computer to start back up
(5)When I put the computer to sleep via the apple menu, it goes to sleep, and i can wake it up
    (6) When I restart via the apple menu, it powers down then restarts without any problems
(7)The force quit keyboard short cut will not work most likely in that it uses the power button as a shortcut.
So pursuant, to (4) above, it seems that the power button is non-functional after starting it up, and will only work after connecting/reconnecting the ribbon cable
