Bluetooth not discoverable iOS 7 - bug or hardware problem?

Just got an iPhone 5c and Bluetooth is not discoverable at all. For example, in my car when searching for a device it does not find it. Likewise, if I seach for it on another iOS phone, it just doesn't exist.
I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 7 and that connects fine to the car with no problems at all. I'm thinking this could be a hardware problem, but just wanted to check if it's been reported as a bug by anyone else?

A bit more on this:
When Bluetooth was switched on, but Airdrop set to Contacts Only, the phone was discoverable by the car but did not work correctly - it connects via Bluetooth but the car display shows no signal and cannot make calls through in car audio.
With Bluetooth switched on but Airdrop set to Off, phone is no longer discoverable by the car
Frustatingly, I don't have access to both the phone and car to test the final scenario of Bluetooth on and Airdrop set to Everyone to confirm what I suspect will be the case.
If the final scenario does work, this has to be a pretty significant bug in the software, right?

How do i make my iphone 5 bluetooth feature "not" discoverable so that my phone is secure from hacking while i am in public and the bluetooth feature is turned on.

The iPhone can only be discovered when you are in the Bluetooth menu at Settings > Bluetooth. You'll see under Devices it shows Now Discoverable.
If you are not at this menu, it is not discoverable anmd it will not show up on other devices.
Simply having BlueTooth on does not make it discoverable.

  • Desktop Software and Bluetooth (not just a rehash of the same problem!)

Hoping someone here can help me! I'm just about to go batty.
Long story - so I'll just skip to the relevent parts. I'm trying to connect my (T-Mobile) 8800 to my PC (it's an old Sony desktop, that did not come with bluetooth support. Running SP3) I've purchased a Rocketfish (Best Buy's cheapo brand?) Bluetooth USB adapter. I set that up, it read my 8800 just fine, did the key stuff, etc.
The problem is that the BlackBerry Desktop Software is not accepting that particular adapter. I've read what I think is every article (!) on the topic, and I understand that the Desktop Software only works with the outdated drivers that come with SP2 - no 3rd Parties. I uninstalled the software, and stuck the adapter back in, and let windows install with its driver. It seems to be calling it "Broadcom 2045 Bluetooth 2.0 USB-UHE Device."
Now, I have no Bluetooth icon in the taskbar, and none in the control panel, either. Obviously, the Desktop Software is a no-go, too.
Can anyone please let me know some suggestions? I've tried this (http://www.vinsvision.com/Articles/tabid/66/EntryID/13/Default.aspx) etc. I've called T-Mobile, tried to call RIM (though I didn't want to pay $50 for support that probably won't fix the issue?) and wasted the entire day!
Should I just return the new adapter and buy one that is represented in SP2? Are there any newer ones that are? I read someone say they found a belkin one that worked on Ebay. Would prefer an option that, if required to buy a new item, could do it locally ASAP.
    Thanks in advance everyone!

  • IPhone not discoverable in bluetooth menu

    Hi
My iPhone is no longer discoverable when in the bluetooth menu. Underneath the list of devices, where it used to say "Now discoverable", it now instead says "Not discoverable" ("Ikke søkbar" in norwegian). And sure enough, I cannot discover the phone from my PC the way I used to.
I have seen a few tips on various forums, such as turning bluetooth off and back on (obviously), enabling/disabling flight mode and resetting network settings. Nothing helps.
I didn't notice this problem before I upgraded to iOS 4, but cannot say for sure whether it appeared with the upgrade.
What could this be? I only hope it isn't a hardware problem...

Also having the same problem after upgrade to 4.0 (8A293).
    (iPhone 3GS)
Phone displays "Not discoverable" ("Ikke søkbar" in Norwegian) meaning that I am not able to locate the iPhone from any other device like my computer, or other phones.
But my iPhone works fine with already connected device. (Bluetooth handsfree in my car)

  • "Why Apple do not fix light sensor bug in ios 6 ipod touch 4g plz give me update for this"

Light Sensor increase but not Decreas light

As you have been directed in the other posts you've made on the issue, this is most likely a hardware problem with your particular iPod, and you won't get different answers by posting more threads on the topic. If this was a bug in iOS 6, I'm sure we'd have seen many more posts on the problem, so this is more likely to be a problem with your iPod, not with iOS 6 itself.

  • Can iPhone Bluetooth be on but not discoverable?

Have my first iPhone (iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.1). Is there any way to have Bluetooth turned on but the device not discoverable? This was possible on my two previous non-Apple phones. I have it paired w/ my car, but don't want it discoverable by other unknown devices, and don't want to have to keep turning it Bluetooth on and off. Bluetooth when discoverable used to be fairly easy to hack and access address books/contacts.

Got the answer myself. Apple Store techie said that the newer Bluetooth pairing is more secure than the older technology and less susceptible to hacking than before. Unfortunately, there is no way to make the iPhone undiscoverable w/o turning Bluetooth off. Users must either leave Bluetooth turned on or off. There is no "On" and undiscoverable. If on and not paired w/ a Bluetooth device, the iPhone is constantly seeking Bluetooth devices, sucking battery power. My phone is paired w/ my car, so it appears that I will need to turn Bluetooth on prior to driving and off when leaving the car. What a pain!. This was never a problem w/my Nokia and Samsung phones. How primitive! This is Cell Phone 101 and should be simple to for Apple include in iOS upgrades, unless  the technology is owned by one of Apple's competitors.

iPhone apps not resuming after phone call - iOS 7 bug
With iOS 6, while playing music on Spotify or playing Candy Crush, etc, if the phone rang and I answered, or if I made a call, once the call was ended, the app I was using would resume. The music would start playing again or the game would resume.
In iOS 7 this isn't working. Listening to music, I answer a call, music stops and when call is ended, nothing! the phone stays on the phone app.
    anybody else see this behaviour?

  • Bluetooth Off, not Discoverable... but other computer can find it still?

My little mini has bluetooth off, not discoverable. So you'd think... it wouldn't be discoverable.
Yet my other Mac can find this mini just fine via bluetooth (and no, they're not paired) ...
    Am I missing something here?

It will not connect to another phone/computer/ipad/etc.
This has never been a feature of iphone/ipod/ipad.
It supports stereo headsets/speakers, telephone headsets/devices, some keyboards, some peer-to-peer apps from the app store and internet tethering where provded by the carrier.

  • Bluetooth - PC not discoverable. SOLVED! READ THIS!

    Hi all,
bluetooth is really driving me crazy. My PC was not discoverable anymore, even if I had "iscan enable; pscan enable" in my hcid.conf.
To solve this issue I added the following line in the hcid.conf (device section):
    discovto 0;
Now the PC is discoverable again. Hope it helps!
    V.

Actually, I think I discovered the Mother of all Bluetooth problems (at least in my case). The hcid daemon, which is initiated with the /etc/rc.d/bluetooth script, depends on dbus! Problem is it does not give any error if dbus isn't running. The result is that most of the settings from /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf is not read.
Would it be a solution to add dbus as an depency in the bluetooth script and where would be the proper place to propose that?
    Regards,
    Nicholai

  • Bluetooth not working with my Sony car stereo

Now that I have upgraded from my Iphone 4 to the Iphone 5.  My Sony DX300BTX Bluetooth car stereo will not connect.  I had a oppiontment this last Friday with the apple store.  They were able to connect with there Blue tooth keyboard.  The tech said he could not find any problems with the phone hardware and would not replace it.  The tech sudjusted that I restore the phone as a new phone.  I did this.  Then attempted to connect with my car stereo.  The car stereo connected to the Iphone 5 but the Iphone 5 would not connect to the car stereo.  Btw the Iphone 5 has the latest 6.01 o.s  And so dose my Iphone 4.  Today I took it out to my car to see if it would still connect with the car stereo now that it has the latast 6.01 o.s.   Connected and played Itunes and Pandora perfectly.
So it appears that the Iphone 5 bluetooth chip is the problem.  It's not a software issue and it's not a issue with my sony stereo because the car stereo connected.  But the Iphone 5 would not.  My question is how do I get Apple to fix there faulty bluetooth chip.  I just bought this car stereo last year.  It was suppose to have the best bluetooth connectivity.  And it did with my Iphone 4.  I know if Steve Jobs was still with us this Iphone 5 would have not been released until these kind of bugs were fixed.  And just for the record my sony laptop can see the Iphone 5 to but the Iphone 5 can not see the sony.  Dose Apple make a car stereo that connect to there Iphone 5

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset the BT device
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Bluetooth not working after »Safe Sleep«

Hi, I'm having a problem with Bluetooth on my MacBook (late 2006). Every time my computer has been in »Safe Sleep« and wakes up - the built-in Bluetooth stops working. The Bluetooth-menu in the menu-bar shows "Bluetooth not available". I've managed to reproduce the problem with no exception.
How can this be resolved without rebooting the computer?
I have tried the following to make it work again.
When the MacBook has waken up from Safe Sleep, I can go to system preferences/ Bluetooth and do the following:
    1) turn Bluetooth off
    2) first deselect "Show Bluetooth Status in Menubar" and then reselect it (menu will disappear and then reappear).
    3) turn on Bluetooth on again.
Bluetooth then seems to work correctly, but:
    a) In system preferences "Bluetooth Device Name: Name not available"
    b) applications like iSync/ BluePhoneElite/ Address Book cannot use Bluetooth.
There is not much point in Safe Sleep if I have to reboot the computer anyway. It can work as a backup-solution, not losing my open data, but I cannot continue to use my computer as normal.
It seems like a Safe Sleep/ Bluetooth bug.

    MacBook (late 2006) Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I am also having the same problem, although I'm on a PowerBook G4 12" 1.5Ghz.
I have an Apple Wireless keyboard and a Logitech BT mouse. The PowerBook is set up not to wake the computer using any BT device.
On two occasions, the computer woke up from sleep because it somehow lost the BT keyboard and mouse connection. Upon close inspection, that shouldn't have been possible, since that option was off.
I subsequently checked the BT preference pane under System Prefs. There, I discovered the following message, "Bluetooth Device Name: Name not available."
The first time, I restarted the computer and everything came back to normal. The second time it occurred, it I decided to log off and log back in. The log in process was fine, but my icons on beside Spotlight wouldn't load, System profile froze when getting more information on my BT module, and System Preferences also froze when trying to access the BT preferences. I ended up restarting the computer, and lo and behold, it worked again.
This has happened twice in the last two months, and I can't replicate the problem. I also can't figure out if this is a hardware or software problem.
I've read posts in the forums that describe BT going missing. This is not the case for me. BT is there, but for some reason BT is there but it's "Name not available."
Plaese let me know if you figure something out.
    Cheers,

  • Not happy iOS 6.1

I have an issue with my iPhone 4S.
Ever since this update over a moth ago. My battery life drains really fast.
I've done what everyone suggests. Make the phone useless by turning everything off.
    Still it dies really fast.
Clearly an issue with the update.
My battery drains at about 2-3 % every few minutes. Currently at 49%*.
It freezes seldomly when unlocking, sometimes while I text. My words will disappear, then reappear and when I type the words I type disappear but are still there cause I can highlight and copy them.
So little bugs I can live with. Those rarely ever happen.
However my battery life I need.
Again. It was flawless before the update. This stuff never happened.
My phone is in mint condition. Placed it in a defender series otter box before I left the store. And I only remove it to wipe dust off the phone and charge it.
So it's not misuse. Never dropped it.
Could this be a bug or defective hardware?
I've been patient, waiting for the bug to be fixed
. Now I'm slightly peeved. If its my hardware that apple sold me less than 1 year ago. I'll get it tested and replaced for free right?
This is my first iPhone and I do enjoy it. Love it. Recommended it a lot.
If this is not resolved. I will never buy apple again. Bad first impression to me.
I'm only one person. But one person who cares about being treated right by the people who sell me such items.
Thank you for your time :)
Battery at 46% now. After a 2 minute message.
    That's not right.
    Defective software or hardware???
    Sincerely,
    Annoyed apple user.

in my instance, it appears that the push of the email app is my problem....I want to note that I did not have this problem prior to a week ago and my phone battery drain was what I call good prior to that......some afternoon monitoring has produced this...I am going to turn everything but the push (all notifications and location services):
Before shutting down, it was losing 1% about every 5min or so....notifications were already turned off

    1:18pm - 73%
    1:28pm - 73%
1:38pm - 73% NOTE: since it has been turned on, I've only woken up the phone to see the slide to open screen. I also noticed that the wifi has not connected yet and that the bluetooth status is up but off. there have been 2 words with friends game notifications
    1:48pm - 73%
1:51pm - 73% NOTE: logged in, wifi connected, put back to sleep
2:01pm - 71% NOTE: wifi full strength...iphone literally 3ft from the wifi router

  • IMac takes 4 minutes to boot up, bluetooth not available

Hello, this is my first post on Apple Discussions!
The day before yesterday we had quite a vicious storm here and lost power for about a minute. My Mac was switched on when the power cut out, but I was downstairs, having some lunch. Unfortunately, I have no surge protection on my power bar / extension cord thing (I know...). I immediately unplugged it, only turning it back on after the storm had calmed down.
Thinking nothing of it, I powered on my Mac and left it unattended for about 10 minutes (so I don't know how long it took to boot up!). When I came back, I was greeted by the login screen and proceeded as usual. However, the next time I powered on my computer, I could not get past the white screen after the chime (no Apple logo). Now, this has happened to me before, so I waited a couple of minutes. Nothing. I decided to power it down (holding down the power button) and try rebooting it, this time holding down the option key (to bring up the partitions), as this has helped me in the past. White screen for a couple of minutes. Impatient and annoyed, I powered it down again. Rebooted holding down the shift key, for Safe Mode. Nothing again. This time I left it on the white screen while I looked for an old USB keyboard, thinking my wireless keyboard might not have been pairing. Little did I know I would have to use this sh***y keyboard from this point forward.
So, I got my keyboard (remember I had left my Mac on the white screen) and when I returned I was pleasantly surprised to see the login screen. I noticed, however, that I could not use my wireless keyboard (I have a wired Razer mouse). So I plugged in the old PC keyboard I found, and logged in. Which is when I noticed the Bluetooth icon was strange; it was greyed out and had a jagged line through it, and when I clicked on it, said "Bluetooth: Not Available".
I restarted my Mac, just to see if the issues would be fixed. Nope. It took about four minutes to start up, and no Bluetooth. I checked the System Preferences and it says there is "No Bluetooth Hardware Found". "No information found" in System Information either.
The problem is that during the white screen on bootup (I always hear the chime btw), I have no control. I cannot enter Safe Mode, see the partitions, reset the NVRAM or PRAM. I just have to wait until I see the Apple logo after about four minutes. After login, everything (bar Bluetooth) seems fine. I have verified disk, and it says it's fine. Verified and repaired permissions as well. I looked and noticed that I have no com.apple.bluetooth.plist file in my library.
I don't know what to do from here! My extended Apple Care has expired Should I install Mavericks? Could that fix my problems? Or should I clean install ML, and then install Mavericks? But if the storm did do some damage, the issue is probably hardware... Please help me.
Thanks, and sorry for the length
PS. I have been having a little trouble with my finder since a while now (months). Sometimes, when I open a folder the CPU will shoot up to 100% and the Mac would freeze for a couple of seconds. Then it would be normal again. I have used up about 1.5 TB (including a Bootcamp partition) from my 2TB HDD. I doubt this is related, but I though I'd throw it in anyway. Again, I apologise for the length.

Installing a new OS X over a problematic one will get you a new problematic OS X.
I suggest you run repair disk first.  Then I would reset the SMC.
I "think" that some of your problems stem from the power problem you described.  No surge protector is akin to (fill in the negative outcome blank).  The lecture ends here.
IMHO, you have some hardware problem(s).  I suggest you take the computer to an Apple store for diagnosis.  Be sure to bring your documentation of the things above along.
