Bluetooth not working after »Safe Sleep«

Hi, I'm having a problem with Bluetooth on my MacBook (late 2006). Every time my computer has been in »Safe Sleep« and wakes up - the built-in Bluetooth stops working. The Bluetooth-menu in the menu-bar shows "Bluetooth not available". I've managed to reproduce the problem with no exception.
How can this be resolved without rebooting the computer?
I have tried the following to make it work again.
When the MacBook has waken up from Safe Sleep, I can go to system preferences/ Bluetooth and do the following:
1) turn Bluetooth off
2) first deselect "Show Bluetooth Status in Menubar" and then reselect it (menu will disappear and then reappear).
3) turn on Bluetooth on again.
Bluetooth then seems to work correctly, but:
a) In system preferences "Bluetooth Device Name: Name not available"
b) applications like iSync/ BluePhoneElite/ Address Book cannot use Bluetooth.
There is not much point in Safe Sleep if I have to reboot the computer anyway. It can work as a backup-solution, not losing my open data, but I cannot continue to use my computer as normal.
It seems like a Safe Sleep/ Bluetooth bug.

MacBook (late 2006) Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I am also having the same problem, although I'm on a PowerBook G4 12" 1.5Ghz.
I have an Apple Wireless keyboard and a Logitech BT mouse. The PowerBook is set up not to wake the computer using any BT device.
On two occasions, the computer woke up from sleep because it somehow lost the BT keyboard and mouse connection. Upon close inspection, that shouldn't have been possible, since that option was off.
I subsequently checked the BT preference pane under System Prefs. There, I discovered the following message, "Bluetooth Device Name: Name not available."
The first time, I restarted the computer and everything came back to normal. The second time it occurred, it I decided to log off and log back in. The log in process was fine, but my icons on beside Spotlight wouldn't load, System profile froze when getting more information on my BT module, and System Preferences also froze when trying to access the BT preferences. I ended up restarting the computer, and lo and behold, it worked again.
This has happened twice in the last two months, and I can't replicate the problem. I also can't figure out if this is a hardware or software problem.
I've read posts in the forums that describe BT going missing. This is not the case for me. BT is there, but for some reason BT is there but it's "Name not available."
Plaese let me know if you figure something out.
Cheers,
LP

  • WINDOWS 8.1 BLUETOOTH NOT WORKING AFTER UPDATE ON ACER V3-571......Solved!!!!!!

Hello everyone, if anyone has had the horrible task of trying to get his or her bluetooth working after upgrading to windows 8.1, then look no further.  It took me hours and hours of faffing and fist raging, but in the end, there can be only one.  Anyway...Here is your solution.....Ps! I already upgraded to Windows 10, but went back to 8.1 as it trashed my PC and cost me 3.5 half days of painstaking re-install to get my laptop to work again. (WINDOWS 10...DONT BOTHER IN MY OPINION) I have :  ACER V3-571 64 BIT WIN 8.1  AGAIN. . IF YOU UPGRADE THIS LAPTOP TO WINDOWS 10...YOUR DOLBY V4 WILL STOP WORKING...was the start of a new nightmare for me.  MICROSOFT UPGRADE YOUR ACER WITH THEIR OWN DRIVERS WHEN YOU UPGRADE TO A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM, OFTEN THIS LEADS TO STUPID FIDDLY THINGS LIKE APPS AND APPLICATIONS NO LONGER WORKING.... SO here we go!!! SOLUTION TO BLUETOOTH NOT WORKING V3-571 ACER WIN 8.1 64-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------1) Switch off your bluetooth    .........search top right screen > Settings > Bluetooth > Toggle off!2) Right Click your windows logo on the left hand side of your screen > device manager > Bluetooth >Uninstall totally the bluetooth driver and or delete.3) Exit device manager.4) www.google. > find acer drivers > acer website.  On website to find drivers, use auto detect serial number > go to your downloads folder >open downloaded auto detector > copy serial number> back to asking box for your serial number >right click > Paste serial number.5)Select operating system from drop down menu (typically windows 8.1)6Drivers > Select Bluetooth Qualcom Atheros Driver 647) Go to downloads on your pc8) Right click the downloaded bluethooth qualcom atheros zip folder >  > extract here9) Go into unzipped bluetooth folder > Double Click the installer Icon > Run installer10) Restart PC11) Boom!!!  Happy Days.....Nightmare over.  YOUR BLUETOOTH WILL NOW CRUISE  Hope this will help other people, I had a nightmare for a good few hours trying to get my bluetooth to work again after upgrading to Win 8.1 FROM Win 8.

I am not bothering with windows 10 my friend, it is too much of an newbe baby at the moment and there are just too many bug fixes need doing in my opinion.  I did manage to get my dolby home theatre to work again in windows 10, but it was an awful dulled down version with only half the features of the original that came with the version that was on my pc. My plan is to stick to windows 8.1 until it's death.  When they withdrawl all the security patches for windows 8.1 and it becomes obsolete, then I will be forced to trash my pc again and go to windows 10, was not much fun mind spending 3.5 days putting everything back to its former state.   Hope they do make windows 10 more stable and fix a lot of the bugs.  I tried opening videos and pictures in windows 10.... result = missing element errors.... and  error, error,  error,,,  So I think I will wait until 28 July 16 to when the last day of my free upgrade and reservation to windows 10 becomes mandatory.  (This is I day before my year to upgrade expires). Thanks for your post.  Will

  • Bluetooth not work after 10.9.3

I just upgraded to 10.9.3 and found that Bluetooth is not working any more. I cannot even turn off Bluetooth, in both system panel and the menubar icon, the turn off button simply does not work. My Magic Mouse worked great at 10.9.2 but after the upgrade, it stopped functionning. The menubar indicate the mouse is connected but it is actually not working at all (In Mouse preference panel, it consistently looking for the mouse)! I tried to remove the mouse from bluetooth panel, and when I open the panel again, the mouse shows up again. It seems the whole Bluetooth part stop working.
Tried resetting SMC and PRAM, nothing works. Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

I upgraded to 10.6.3 today and have been having serious problems including the bluetooth. It completely disappeared from Preferences. I just tried resetting the SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US) and that brought bluetooth back, hopefully permanently.
The first problem I had after the upgrade was that the system completely locked up after restarting. I did a hard shut down and restarted again but it kept happening. I then did a safe restart (holding down shift while starting up) and then decativated an app in safe mode called Yoono which also updated today. After shutting down and restarting normally the system worked, for a while.
I was working on some photos in iPhoto and the system locked up again. I powered off and restarted. When the system restarted it seemed to be OK except the blue tooth was gone. That's when I did what I described in the first paragraph.
In researching my problems it is sounding like there are some serious problems with 10.6.3--similar to mine and ones I haven't experienced yet and hope I don't.
I hope what I did is useful to others and if there are people with better solutions until Apple fixes what they apparently broke, I would like to know about them.

  • Bluetooth Not Working after upgrading to Windows 8.1

My Laptop is HP Pavilion G6 2015 tx after upgrade to windows 8.1, bluetooth is not working also the battery drain has increased anyone know a fix atleast for bluetooth problem ???

    You're very welcome.
That is very interesting, because I didn't know of anyone who upgraded to W8.0 with a Ralink wireless card with the BT 3.0 radio that got the BT to work at all.
We tried the W7 drivers, and they didn't work.
That is why you don't see a W8 Ralink BT driver for the bluetooth on your PC's support and driver page amongst the other 11 drivers listed.
The Ralink 3.0 version of BT is not supported in W8.
While somehow the BT has worked in W8 for you, I'm afraid your luck has run out.
Unless by some fluke, HP installed a card with the BT 4.0 radio on your model...
You can try this W8 driver for the Ralink card with the BT 4.0 radio, but don't get your hopes up.

  • Bluetooth not working after upgrading to Windows 10

My laptop is HP Pavilion g4 and its serial number is [Personal Information Removed]. I recently got the upgrade for Windows 10 and installed it. Everything has been working out perfectly EXCEPT the Bluetooth. When I try to upgrade software in Device Manager, it upgrades from Ralink Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter to Mediatek Bluetooth adapter and after I click "ok", the driver reverts back to Ralink Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter. Also, the Bluetooth option itself is not there in the Devices section of settings and it is missing from the notifications tab as well. Occasionally, some Microsoft Bluetooth LE enumerator shows up with a yellow mark next to it. Kindly help me out with this problem!!! Thanks

  • Magic Mouse, Trackpad, Bluetooth not working after Mountain Lion install

Is anyone else having the same issue after installing ML? I first noticed that my Magic Mouse didn't scroll as usual when I opened Safari.  When I went to preferences, it only gave me tracking & double-click speed options- no scrolling options.  I check the Accessibility preferences, but that didn't seem to help either.  When I tried my Trackpad to check the preferences, it said that one wasn't connected, even though that's exactly what I used to open it in the first place.  Now when I look at the top right hand corner for Bluetooth connectivity- it says Bluetooth- not available in a grayed out font. When I check out the About My Mac and check the Hardware->Bluetooth section it says 'No information found'.
I've tried the SMC/PRAM reset, unclicked "Disable automatic login" option in Security & Privacy preference page.  Shut down my iMac and turned off the keyboard, mouce, and trackpad and restarted them after restarting the iMac.
Now I can seem to find anything else to try.
Does anyone have anything else to try?

    Hi There,
I am having the same issues - is there a fix for it yet?

  • IPhone Bluetooth not working after upgrading to iOS 6.1.2

I used to pair my iPhone with my Blue&Me system in my Fiat Car and it was working perfectly hitherto. Recently I have been experiencing problems with Pairing my phone with my car Bluetooth system (Which I sometimes use for receiving calls).. The phone though identifies the car system in the discovery mode but is not able to pair  and establish connection. My car Bluetooth system is working just fine with other phones. Request apple / or anyone who can help to help me overcome this issue. My car system is as important to me as iPhone and if this problem persists, i may be forced to change my phone.

In the 4+ years of using iPhone and several other apple products, this is the first time that I am feeling frustrated with my iPhone 4S and Apple. I am surprised that so many people around the world are facing the problem with their blue tooth devices after upgrading the iOS and still there is no hope of having this situation resolved. The cause of breakage of communication between iPhone (my investment, my ownership) and other devices is of apple origin and apple can't walk away by suggesting that the other party should upgrade the Bluetooth Firmware.
In my case, My iPhone 4S stopped paring with My Fiat car blue&me system after updating to iOS 6.1.2. The problem has not been solved in iOS 6.1.3.
If this problem is not solved in next update the ovious solution is to move to android as I can change my phone but I can't change my car that eaisly.

  • Bluetooth not working after upgrading to Maverick

    Hello All!
I upgraded my Mac Pro system (NOTE: This is NOT the Mac Pro "Book" laptop, this is the Mac Pro tower system.) to Mavericks yesterday and now my iPhone (Verizon 4 model) won't connect via Bluetooth. It asks me for the pairing code number, which I enter in and then it shows for a split second as being connected, but then goes back to being disconnected. Then it will give me errors as.... it can not connect because Network connection is not available. Or device can not be found. Even though it shows my iPhone in the Bluetooth devices preference window on my Mac Pro and also my  Mac Pro system on my iPhone Bluetooth settings device window.
Anyone have any answers? Other than this is another Verizon scheme to block their iPhone users into paying another surgcharge or fee to now be able to connect via Bluetooth?
    Thank you!
    Kevin

  • Bluetooth not working after upgrading to Vista

    Hi All,
I called tech support and they pretty much informed me that I'm s.o.l. so I thought I'd turn here.  I'm running a T60 (model 8744).  I was running Win XP and getting blue screened to death.  So I upgraded to Vista Business.  I now have everything re-installed and working...except for Bluetooth.  Lenovo support says there aren't any Vista drivers for Bluetooth on this model.  IS THAT RIGHT?  At this point I'm pretty shocked.  I figured by now they would have completed a Vista driver pack for this laptop considering it's a couple years old now.  Anyone have any suggestions on other drivers that I can use successfully?

It seems that the mouse has still stored the pairing information (normally it should loose it if the battery was removed).
The mouse tries to connect to the last connection, but the other side (PC) has not the information anymore.
Could you try to pair the mouse with any other PC or notebook before you try to pair it with your notebook again ?

  • SMTP with SSL does not work after MacBook sleeps

    Hi,
I have a brand new MacBook running Leopard, using Mail for a work MS Exchange account and a personal IMAP account. I connect to both mailboxes over SSL for security and this all works perfectly fine. When I close my laptop however (i.e. send it to sleep), it seems to corrupt my SSL session for the IMAP mailbox. Upon waking the MacBook up, the Exchange account work perfectly fine, as does the IMAP mailbox for receiving, although sending mail always errors out. If I quit mail, restart it and then click "Connect" on both (incoming and outgoing) of the SSL notices, everything starts working again.
Is there away to auto-Connect to IMAP mailboxes without the SSL notification or to recover SSL sessions after they time out?

  • My wifi will not work after compurter sleeps

Wifi works great until computer goes to sleep.  When I turn it back on, it can't connect.  Right now I am restarting the computer everytime.  Very annoying.  This only started this week.  It has worked well since Christmas.  This is an imac bought on Dec. 23 of this year.

This is a know issue. The work around solution is only letting the display sleep, set the options in System Preferences - Energy Saver - Power. If you don't want to use the work around then simply cycle the Wi-Fi when you wake up the computer. You can do this by click the Wi-Fi symbol in the menu and then choose Turn Wi-Fi Off and then Turn Wi-Fi on.
BTW PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fill out your profile. Not having a profile completed makes it difficult for those trying to help you. You can do this by clicking Your Stuff in the upper right of this page, then click Profile and filling in the pertinent information.
