Bluetooth not working (macbook air 2014 with mavericks)

This a for a 2014 MacBook Air with Mavericks: There are many bluetooth devices around which pair nicely with all other devices including older macbooks, but with the new laptop nothing shows up in the bluetooth menu?  How do I fix this?
Seems like it's a hardware or firmware problem or something? Help.  Anyone?

Hello wily2000,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Bluetooth on your MacBook Air.  I recommend reviewing the section titled “Top troubleshooting tips” in the following article for the issue you described, but step 9 seems specifically useful for the issue you described:
Restart your computer
Sometimes a simple restart of your Mac is all it takes to get things running smoothly again. You may also want to try resetting your computer's PRAM and NVRAM.

  • MacBook Air 2013 with Mavericks 10.9.1 has Facetime HD Camera issues

Hi, I've been using a new 2013 MacBook Air with 10.9.1 for the last 3 weeks (I used to have a 2010 Macbook Pro 15 with Mavericks) and the Facetime HD camera is having issues being detected by different applications.
In my case I mainly use Google Hangouts, Skype, and sometimes Facetime. The problem lies on that the camera sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't.
I usually reboot the camera with 'sudo killall AppleCameraAssistant' and that makes it work, but it shouldn't be like that.
Please note that this was not happening with my 2010 MacBook Pro with Mavericks. I changed to this new 2013 MacBook Air only 3 weeks ago. Nevertheless, people that I work with (who use retina macbooks with Mavericks) are not having this issue.
Last week I had to install a plugin (in chrome) for a new online site similar to Hangouts called BlueJeans. Bluejeans very seldomly recognizes the cam, only when I reboot it with the 'line' above or reboot the machine. The people I work with didn't have any issues, so I suspect this has to do with 2013 MacBook Air's Facetime HD cameras which might be different to the rest, or too new on the market.
It's as if when I start using it in Hangouts and then hang, later it might not work in Skype, or viceversa.
If you can help, that'll be great, and I appreciate it. Nevertheless, I feel Apple must take care of this in the next Mavericks update (many people are having camera issues).

    Hi Jal1980
    I had the same pb...
On my MacBook Pro Mid 2012 I Had a problem with my video on skype, facetime, photoboot....
I have tried all the solution offered in every forum and never got to a satisfying result. I downgraded to mountain lion from mavericK without result. I reseted the Pram or SMC (I forgot), and other things, I played with the plugin /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/, I tried several version of skype.... NONE of this solution worked....
Until that day a friend came to my place and installed AppleJack for Mac, a free software (http://download.cnet.com/AppleJack/3000-2094_4-40293.html) that totally solved this issue amongst others...
Here is the full page of the program http://applejack.sourceforge.net/man.html
And here quick instructions on how to use the program. Have fun!
Restart your computer. After you hear the startup chime, press and hold down the
Cmd and s keys together (this will put you in single user mode). You should soon get a Terminal-type screen with a dramatic garble of indecipherable messages and a shell prompt that looks something like [root#]
    2. Now, type applejack at the prompt. (If you’ve installed applejack manually, or have not created an alias to applejack for the root user, you may have to enter the full path to the script at the prompt.) You will be guided through a series of steps that will repair your drive and delete possibly corrupted files. Options are selected by typing the number corresponding to the task you want to perform, and then hitting the return key. For example, when you see a few different options, like this:
[1] Option One [2] Do something else [3] Another task [4] A useful task
From time to time, in interactive mode, you will be asked to answer yes or no to a question. To answer yes, type y and hit the return key. To answer no, type n and hit the return key.
An advantage of using the interactive mode instead of auto mode is that you are given options for also cleaning out user-level caches and preference files. If you would like to clean out your main admin user caches, for example, you will need to use interactive mode.
    3. Auto mode: If you want to leave
applejack to do it’s own thing, just choose option [a] when the script starts. You can also start right up in auto mode by typing: applejack auto at the prompt. applejack will run through all the basic cleanup tasks in order. Alternatively, you can also type applejack auto restart which will tell applejack to do the cleanup tasks and then automatically restart your computer. Other options are: applejack auto shutdown which tells AppleJack to shut down the computer after running its tasks, or applejack AUTO shutdown which tells AppleJack to run automatically in "deep cleaning" mode (see above) and then shut down.
I hope this helps. It completely solved my issue.

  • Everything is very slow on my MacBook Air 2011 with Mavericks

Recenty I found a process kernel_task in my process list. And that process consumed about 300% CPU. I used the following instruction to fix it
    1. Go to About this mac under the apple in the upper left and click on More info
    2. Click on system report
    3. make a note of what it says after Model Identifier
    4. go to your master drive – System -Library – Extensions – IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext -Contents – Plugins – ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext – Contents – Resources – find the name from step 3 and move it to a folder that you can find again if needed.
After fix there was a problem with sound. It was making pauses every 3-5 secconds. So I tried to clear SMC. That has not helped. And I reinstall the system with hard drive formatting. Now I have a clean IOS Mavericks but everything is VERY slow. To turn off the computer I need to press the power button for 10 secconds. After loading everything is very slow. It tells me that it will take 20 hours to full up the battery. Also I have load average at minimum 12 with no activity. But nothing consuming visible in the process list.
    Please help

  • GPU panic on MacBook Air (2014) with Yosemite

Hello, my new MacBook Air (system details below) has been having intermittent GPU panics when using Safari. These seem to be correlated with sites on the Gawker network (e.g. http://www.gawker.com, http://www.lifehacker.com) when they play a pop up video ad. Here's a slice of the report from the console:

  • Audio and Camera not working Macbook air

I got my macbook air as a present from a relative and it seemed to work nicely even though I think it was used before. I took pics and watched videos on it before, but all of a sudden the sound would not work so I would restart my laptop and then it would work again but now even restarting it wont work the option to use the built in speakers is not there anymore. I wanted to facetime my friend and it says no that there is no connected camera. I do not know what to do.  I really want to get back to watching stuff and taking pics please help me !!!!

    Hello fridamente123,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the iSight camera and internal speakers are not working. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • Polygonal lasso not working in PS 2014 with OS X 10.10

The polygonal lasso is not working when using Photoshop CC 2014 with the new Mac OS X 10.10 Beta. Anyone else notice this problem? It still works fine in regular Photoshop CC.

You are right about taking my chances with the beta. So far it's working pretty well. They've made a lot of cool visual improvements. A lot of other people who are not using the 10.10 beta seem to be having trouble with the polygonal lasso as well so I wonder if it might be an Adobe problem. I have sent in a report to Apple about the issue.

  • Bluetooth Not Working / Macbook Pro Retina / Late 2013

Bluetooth suddenly not working on my Macbook. Definitley not the mouse (work's perfectly on another machine).
PRAM reset and still nothing. Any solutions please?!

That usually fixes the missing BT problem. I think, at this point, I would take it in for diagnosis.

  • Jam Pack: Symphony Orchestra not working on new iMac with Maverick

    Hi,
i received my new iMac 27 inch Haswell with Maverick installed.
I migrated most of the stuff i need but it seems the Symphony Orchestra Jam Pack instruments weren't migrated to Garageband.
Now i read somehwere that this JamPack doesn't work on Maverick.
Is there a way to download the Jam Pack again? I can't find them anywhere. Why doesn't Apple sell these in the store?
I can't try to install the JamPack again since i don't have a CD Rom drive in my iMac...
How can i restore these instruments on my Garageband?? I need them.
    Thanx

MainStage is for setting up a live performance and performing music.  It has many instruments and effects. GarageBand is for mixing song arrangements and creating finished songs.
I have never really used MainStage, just for playing my guitar. I bought it to get current installers for the JamPacks.
After you install MainStage, you need to open and run it at least once, to download the full set of instruments and loops.

  • Bluetooth not working macbook pro 2011, AHT found nothing

My macbook pro 2011 has been having some issues with bluetooth. The system doesn't even recognize as having bluetooth hardware. I went under the hardware profile and it actually says No information found under bluetooth. I was able to do a full hour diagnostic test using Apple Hardware Test and everything was all clean. I'm not sure if this is Yosemite related or not. I definitely remember using my bluetooth enabled keyboard and mouse on my system before I upgraded to Yosemite. Wifi works fine. I've tried resetting PRAM, but nothing. I'm at a loss, not sure if there is anything else I can do.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • I cannot pair my Macbook Air (Yosemite) with my iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth.

I cannot pair my Macbook Air (Yosemite) with my iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth. It is recognising the devices but 'connection unsuccessful'

That is correct.  Macs do not pair to iPhones, iPads, etc.
However, pairlng is not required to get Handoff to work.  Both devices must have Bluetooth on, but they need not (indeed cannot) be paired.

My Macbook Air (still with Lion) will not play .avi video files (brought over from an older PC where they play with another viewer). This site implies Quicktime Player should be able to do so. Is there a codec or something else I'm supposed to download?

I had found this through other threads, but it is what worked, even allowed my AVI files to be played in PowerPoint. Changing to 32-bit encryption did not work, BTW.

  • In ios7 Bluetooth not working with my ipod touch 5G

In ios 7 upgrade bluetooth not working properly... It's always searching ... not detecting even ipad with ios7 (bluetooth on).
I was expected 7.0.3. but no use...

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset the BT device
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Soft KeyBoard is not working on ios 7 with Air sdk 3.8

    Hi
In my app Soft KeyBoard is not working on ios 7 with Air sdk 3.8. Does any one know soluton for this ?

    Hi,
There's no question that TextFields and TextAreas weren't working in our case, likely because we have a deep displaylist with a variety of object types. Presumably, AIR has changed how it looks through the displaylist for objects that need keyboard, and perhaps we have an object type somewhere in the hierarchy that AIR no longer recurses. It's definitely something that changed, though.
It's no picnic to put together a sample app, I can't afford that time when I have a solution. But the symptom was very clear, a textbox would open, and the cursor would just blink with no way of interacting with it.
I'm happy using StageText directly, because it's a more direct way to interact with the OS and gives more control.
It also solves a bug in AIR that I haven't reported yet, but is as follows. Rarely, when you move the container of a TextField of TextArea after it has been created, AIR will crash and freeze iOS devices. It doesn't happen on Android or desktop, but with a user-base of about 100,000 of our app, we've had it reported maybe 50 times. One of our dialogs sometimes needs to reposition the elements, which is done animated. During this, AIR will crash about 0.01% of the time. We tried only creating the TextArea, but not activating it or even having it visible, but even an invisible TextArea will crash, presumably because AIR moves the internal StageText overlay around as well, and this confuses iOS after a while during the animation.
By using StageText directly, I finally also have a way to get rid of this bug, because I simply don't activate StageText until the object has already been positioned. Prior to that, it isn't even an editable text field, it's a label like anything else. So I'm happy I did this solution.
Let's just leave this thread as a record if someone else has the same problem. I'm quite sure it's because of our very complicated display list, and AIR having changed how it scans the displaylist for objects that need keyboard.
    Best,
    Per
