  • Anyone notice that your keyboard is unresponsive after hibernate?

I've been noticing lately that my keyboard is absolutely unresponsive after I come back from a suspend that led to a hibernate. That is to say, suspend ... if batteries dies or you remove it it leads to hibernation... so when I power back (from hibernation) the trackpad works fine but the keyboard is unresponsive. Capslock light doesnt work either. Only solution I found is to reboot (using the trackpad) and all is okay.
Anyone else able to reproduce this?

'Deep Sleep/Hibernation' doesn't happen automatically when the battery goes flat, that's just normal hardware sleep ... any key/mouse click (once MagSafe power applied) will wake from that. The Power button is required for 'wake from Deep Sleep' (and you will see the vram software image loading with the Desktop greyed out)

  • CVS keyboard accelerators lost after restart

    Hi
I set up accelerator keys for CVS edit (F10) and CVS commit (F11). Whilst JDeveloper is running, these keys work fine and I am able to edit and commit with these shortcut keys.
However, when I restart JDeveloper, the settings are lost and I have to set the keys again - (I have to do this each time I restart JDeveloper).
When I set keys F10 and F11 to other accelerator shortcuts such as make selected or run selected these work fine, even after restarting JDeveloper. The problem only seems to be with the CVS commands.
Do I have to some additional configuration for the CVS accelerators?
I am using JDeveloper 9.0.3.1 and the problem occurs on both Windows XP and SUSE Linux 8.1.
    Thanks
    Usman

I'm seeing this problem with set accelerators being lost after restart with JDeveloper Preview 10.1.3.0.2.
I set an accelerator to an external tool (Tomcat Startup and Tomcat Shutdown) and the accelerator is gone after I restart JDeveloper.
I apologize if this is a known bug in Preview... I did a cursory search through the forums and only found this one.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Unresponsive after Restart

Whenever I restart my Mac Pro, it takes a good two or three minutes before I finally see the login page with all the user icons.  But when that does finally come up, the computer is still unresponsive for several minutes.  I'll click on a user icon and nothing happens.  I'll click on the Sleep button or Restart button at the bottom of the login screen, nothing happens.  Maybe four minutes later the buttons become responsive.
I thought it might be an issue with the OS (Lion), but after a failure of my system disk, I installed a fresh copy of Lion on a brand new drive (1 TB WD Caviar Black) and noticed that even that had the same issue. There was absolutely nothing on the new hard drive but Lion, yet when I restarted, I experienced the same issue -- the interface was unresponsive for several minutes.
Could it be that my computer is so old (about eight years old now) that it's barely able to get Lion up and moving? It seems to perform pretty well beyond this annoying restart issue. And I don't seem to recall this sluggish behavior when I first installed Lion several months ago, so I'm wondering if it's a more serious issue, like a problem with the motherboard or something.

Linc, I made a mad dash home during my lunch hour to copy the console logs for the reboot period. I attempted to cull any duplicate lines, but there weren't many. Still, I wound up with a very, very long list of log entries. Better to risk being annoying than deleting a critical piece of information, I suppose.
I appreciate you taking a look at the following. I'll follow up with Step 2 when I get home this evening.

  • Server unresponsive after restarting, only sometimes

    Hello,
I've been having an issue that will only sometimes occur after a scheduled server restart. My SBS 2011 Essentials server is configured to restart every Sunday so updates will apply. Most restarts occur normally and the server comes back up fine. However,
sometimes the server will restart and then enter an unresponsive state.
What I mean by unresponsive state is:
    - The power light on the server box is on, and the Ethernet status LEDs at the Ethernet connection are active.
    - The server will not perform its DHCP duties, causing all workstations to hang while trying to start up (Ethernet cable pull works around this and allows login with machine local users)
    - Setting a static IP on a workstation and attempting to remote desktop or even ping the server fails.
    - Physically using the servers monitor, keyboard and mouse to login fails, it will hang attempting to login to the administrator user.
The only way we have found to get the server up again is to restart it. Pressing the power button and waiting does not shut down the server at all, so, undesirably, we have to hold the power button down to do a hard power off.
After this happens I comb through the event log and look for issues but nothing really stands out, googling the event IDs usually just shows the things I find to be symptoms of the root cause, but I can never find the root cause. Interestingly, the event
log is completely clear from about 5 minutes after scheduled restart to the time we come in on Monday morning and have to give it a kick. Eg, Server restarts at 6am Sunday, last event log item is 6:05am and then nothing, until 7:30am Monday morning when we've
given it a hard power cycle.
Any ideas what I can look at to chase this down?

After some deeper parsing of the event log I found that two virtual box VMs starting as services were terminating for most startups, instead of starting well. I've added these two services to delay automatic start and they no longer terminate on the first
    start.
If anyone wants to analyse their startup events here's the script I wrote: http://codepad.org/6rUvYRdb
I'm not sure if this has/will fix the problem, since it only randomly happens on restart and we restart once a week.
If it happens again does anyone know what would be the best way to shutdown the computer? As I said above, pressing the power button does nothing, and it only responds to having the power button held down to do an abrupt power off.

  • Mac Pro won't boot after Restart

I have a Mac Pro 2,1 (late 2007) running OS 10.6.8. I recently did two attempted upgrades:
    1. I Installed another 16GB of RAM on top of the 16 I already have. It was fully compatible, installed as advised by Apple). But I was getting Kernel panics so the RAM sellers said it was probably just a bad chip, and so are replacing it.
    2. I tried installing a second nVidia Quadro 4500 x2 video card (so i could have 4 displays). It wasn't detected, and I soon realized that it was the PC Firware version! (I didn't plug in a power supply like one is supposed to for the Mac version!). After taking the nVidia out I've been having the following problem and I'm afraid this card could have affected my motherboard:
When I select "Restart" from the Apple menu, the computer fails to re-boot. It makes a small whirring noise, but will not restart. I have to hold down the power button, then Start Up manually. If I go Apple menu -- "Shut Down" - then it shuts down ok. But I can only re-boot the computer using the button.
Beyond a mere annoyance, I'm afraid this issue is symptomatic of a deeper problem with my computer.
I already (I believe) reset my PRAM and also did a complete power-down reboot.
I also have a MOTU PCI 424e card installed, and has been working fine for years. When I tried putting in the new video card I briefly took out the 424 to make the installation easier, then replaced it. Not certain if replaced it in the same slot (or if this matters, since the sound card is a x2 card), although both my original nVidia Video card and the Soundcard are working fine. Just thought I'd mention these also.
    Please help!!

  • Keyboard becomes unresponsive after using keyboard shortcut for Spaces?

Hi, I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.2 and have the most annoying bug! I always use spaces, and sometimes after using the keyboard shortcut to a space, my keyboard becomes completely unresponsive and I have to log out and log back in again!! Any known fixes? It's happening on my Macbook and Mac Mini!
    Thanks

Check this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2161076&start=0&tstart=0) for the exact issue. Seems widespread.

  • Bluetooth magicMouse & keyboard not responding after sleep mode

    Hello,
I recently upgraded from Lion to Mavericks (10.9.1).
A very annoying bug happens every time the macbook pro exists from sleep mode.
In this situation, when the mac wakes up, Bluetooth devices (magic mouse & wireless keyboard) do not respond. Since I am using the mac in clamshell mode with external monitor, this is very annoying because I have to open the laptop, and turn on/off Bluetooth manually.
Sometimes the same problem arises for the internet wifi connection, which do not reconnect.
I am very surprised of this bug.
Does anyone have the same issue?
I was thinking to do a clean installation, as suggested in some posts, but I don’t believe this will solve the issue.
This issue HAS NEVER APPENED in Lion.
    Thanks for support.
    Alberto

    ** SOLVED ***
If you have a early 2011 MBP, the optibay SATA is a 6GB bit is really support 3GB/s only.
If you have a 6GB SSD, install it in the ORIGINAL adapter and the original SSD in the optibay.
    This will **SOLVE** the issue.

  • Keyboard becomes unresponsive after ejecting CD

I have always had a problem with my keyboard locking up and not working until I unplugged it and plugged it back in. (Only with 10.6) Until this point I have thought it was just a bug at random. Now I have noticed that it is when I press the eject key on the keyboard. After this, the keyboard will lock up on all keys but the function keys, and I will have to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in to get the thing to work. I am wondering if this is a OS X 10.6 bug, is it something I have set up wrong, or is it just an isolated incident. The latter is probably the least likely, due to the fact that this same setup worked fin in OS X 10.5

Did you ever find a resolution to this?
I don't work with hyperlinks in print, so I've never seen this before, but my initial responses would be to make sure you are patched to 7.0.4 and to try trashig the prefs. see Replace Your Preferences

  • MacBook pro Keyboard not working after coffee spillage. Possible replacement?

    Hi there,
4 days ago I spilled coffee (nescafe with sugar, no milk) over my Macbook (mid 2012 non-retina). I turned it off instantly and I've put it upside down. Then I opened it and I started to dry the notebook.
I had few attempts to turn on over the weekend, only one successful, so I gave it a rest until today.
Today I did complete teardown of the laptop with a friend, I sprayed all of the parts with special electronic-contact spray and I was able to turn it on sucessfully.
However I figured out that when I turn the laptop with keyboard connected (regular MacBook keyboard, not external), then there were 90% chances that it will turn off before even booting.
So I spilled ethanol over the keyboard few times, sprayed with the same spray, but no luck. It seems the keyboard is making some non-desired contacts with some electronic part.
The laptop is working without a keyboard, but I would like to change it if possible.
Is there a possibility to change the keyboard? I don't have official Apple store in my country, so I was thinking maybe ordering from ebay. Any suggestions on where I can order a keyboard?

    ==============
    Liquid Spill
If you believe you’ve spilled anything (water, soda, trendy energy drink, etc.) on your Apple notebook, shut it down immediately, lest you continue short-circuiting your computer and thus blasting small holes through its components. Just because your computer works for a while after you’ve spilled liquid on it doesn’t mean you’re in the clear. Damage from liquid spills start out small and difficult to diagnose, and then over time spreads to become larger functional issues.
The best thing to do in this case is to take your Mac to an Apple-authorized service center. But if you are feeling handy and are OK with voiding your AppleCare warranty (AppleCare does not cover accidental damage), you can clean your computer yourself. Unplug it, open it up, and disconnect the battery and all connections to the logic board. Then sit the open computer by a fan while gently scrubbing all sections of the logic board with cotton swabs and isopropyl alcohol. Clean both the top and bottom of the logic board if possible, then let the exposed MacBook dry in the path of the fan overnight before piecing everything back together and turning the computer back on. With any luck, the crisis will be over.

  • USB keyboard recognized only after restarting.

Everytime I connect my USB keyboard to my rMBP I have to restart OS X to make it work. How can I make my MacBook recognize my USB keyboard without restarting?

    Morning Persian Apple,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The System Management Controller (SMC) is responsible for many low-level functions on Intel-based Macs.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:

  • Wired keyboard not recognised after restart

My iMac, late 2014 edition, running Mavericks, doesn't recognise my wired Apple keyboard after it's been shutdown.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hello Richard Clark5,
I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue with your iMac. If your wired keyboard isn't being recognized on starup, you may want to try booting to Safe Mode and see if it is being recognized there (or if it will even let you boot to Safe Mode with the keyboard command). You may also want to try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and NVRAM. You may find the steps outlined in the following articles helpful:

  • Bluetooth mouse, keyboard, cinema display + Powerbook?

I'm posting this here because it incorporates displays and peripherals as well as the behavior of the PB when all are plugged in...
I have an ADC 23" cinema display that doesn't get used anywhere near enough. I got a 17" Powerbook about a year ago and since them my G5 sits idle most of the time.
I want to put the display to better use by using it with my powerbook at work. I don't want to run two displays - I'd rather just use the big display.
So my question is... if I buy an apple bluetooth pro keyboard and a third party multi-button bluetooth mouse (any suggestions?) as well as a DVI-ADC converter, can I leave the powerbook in clamshell mode?
I want to be able to bring my sleeping powerbook into work with me, plug in the DVI and ethernet cables and hit the spacebar on the wireless keyboard to wake it up. (can you wake a sleeping mac with a bluetooth keyboard?).
Is this possible? Will this setup work? TIA.

Well, parts of your setup will work, and parts won't. The monitor and adc-dvi combination should work out fine, and from what I understand you can keep the powerbook almost completly closed while you use an external display, but you may what to research it a little more. There are a lot of discussions about this in the monitors section. Now, as far as the bluetooth devices waking up the computer, they can, but only after they have been paired. So you could not just walk in and wake the computer up. You would need to open the laptop up, connect the dvi cable, and turn on the blutooth devices and let them pair to the computer. Then you could close the lid. I think the agrument here is whether you can close it all the way and you can get an anwser to that in the monitors section of the forum. In terms of bluetooth mice, I use and highly reccommend radtech mice. They work very well, however their battery life is short and the travelling version is very small. I would highly reccommend rechargeable batteries. Hope I answered most of your questions. -Justin

  • Why does my Macbook pro keyboard and trackpad randomly become unresponsive forcing restart in OSX Mavericks?

Randomly when using OSX Mavericks, since installing yesterday, my mid-2012 Macbook Pro keyboard and trackpad freeze and become unresponsive.
The computer is still running whatever I was doing, the computer does not crash, i just cannot control it and the only way I have found as a fix is to restart.
This never happened in Mountain Lion.
    Can anyone help?

    Very similarly.
Mac Mini late 2012. i7 CPU, 16GB ram. 12GB unused.
After installing Mavericks, it seems to grind my system to a halt. It is still running (I can move the cursor and activity monitor updates processes) but every application I try to launch results in a colorful waiting sign. It even can take a minute or more before an application shows "any" sign of starting.
I tried to open a terminal session (so I could manually kill a process) but the terminal session did not even process. It timed out after 5 minutes.
Acitivity monitor shows 90-95% idle and I have no idea what's causing it.
I have already rebuild disk and reset permissions (all seemed fine) 3 times.
I've rebooted over 8 times since last night. I cannot use my Mac anymore reliably.
    Please help.
