Bluetooth range problem/mac mini

hello , i have a mac mini with the bluetooth/ airport installed. i have the mini connected to my 36 inch tv. i recently purchased an apple wireless keyboard and mouse. now as i can recall the range of bluetooth should be somewhere in the 30ft range. i was hoping to be able to sit on my couch and use this setup. now when i go more then 1 foot away from the mini with the mouse and keyboard they nolonger work. i updated everything and it still dosnt work. the mouse gets unconnected and the keyboard dosnt work then at all. can someone please help me for now i feel i have wasted my money and am going to return the mini, keyboard and mouse

I fixed this last night (Mac Mini, Late 2009). If you have upgraded your RAM there is a strong possibility that the bluetooth antenna came loose while reassemling the mini. I was very careful installing ram, but last evening when I dissassembled the mini I found that one of the bluetooth antennae was disconnected. Popped it back in, reassembled, and my reception went from 1 foot back up to the full extent of the room. If you are having range problems, take it apart (ifixit.com) and check it.

  • HT2995 Trouble Pairing Bluetooth speaker with Mac Mini

I can't seem to get the Bluetooth on my Mac Mini to recognize my LG wireless speakers (though the Bluetooth on my iPad recognizes the LG wireless speakers). Any thoughts on how to correct this?
The Mac Mini simply does not seem to recognize that the LG speaker exists.  I know the LG speaker is in Bluetooth discxoverable mode, as my iPad sees it.

You do have the iPad's BT turned off, right, when you try to pair with the Mac?
Better yet, on the iPad make sure the speakers are unpaired-removed, and then try pairing with your mini.

Why can´t I see other devices with Bluetooth from my Mac Mini?

Be sure nothing is on top of the Mac Mini. BT and Wi-Fi antennas are just beyond the top. If something is onto the Mac Mini, wireless job will not be OK.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Two Bluetooth Adapters on Mac Mini

Is it possible to use two bluetooth adapters with the Mac Mini?
If not, is it possible to disable the internal adapter and use an external USB bluetooth adapter?
If you're curious, here is what I'm trying to set up.
upstairs: Mac Mini with keyboard, mouse, monitor, a dual SATA dock and one end of a USB over cat 5e system
cables running downstairs: VGA, speaker wire, cat 5e
downstairs: VGA projector, amp & speakers, USB dock, USB bluetooth adapter, bluetooth controls (probably the ProMini wireless keyboard with trackpad)

It is possible to use multiple Bluetooth adapters on a single Mac. I have a d-Link USB Bluetooth adapter on my Mini.
If not, is it possible to disable the internal adapter and use an external USB bluetooth adapter?
I don't know if it's possible to disable the internal Bluetooth, but why bother? Bluetooth has a range of 33ft, so anything downstairs is likely out of range of the Mini's internal Bluetooth, and the materials in the building is further reducing the signal strength of Bluetooth. 33ft is an optimistic number and I've found that I often have trouble going to the next room, depending on the device.

Otherwise, since you already have USB heading downstairs, then a USB keyboard and mouse would obviously work. Or a wireless keyboard/mouse, but non-Bluetooth. (i.e.: a wireless keyboard/mouse that comes with it's own USB dongle.)

  • Extend range of mac mini shared interent connection via Airport

Hello all - Hopefully I can get some help with extending the range of my internet connection
Currently my internet connection is plugged into my mac mini via ethernet and shared via Wifi. I'd like to extend this connection via my airport express but can't quite figure out how to do this. When I try to manually configure the airport express to extend the range of the wifi signial the airport express becomes unrecognizable. and I get error code 10057 in airport utility.
    Any help?
    Thanks
    Keith

    well,
if your ISP locks your internet down to your MAC address it is very likely you will not be able to share it. They have means of stopping you from sharing the internet connection - as i.e. most hotels do.
Did you manage to share your connection this way with any other device like smart phone etc?
Why don't you speak to your ISP about the problem is slightly beyond me.

  • Problem Mac mini G4 with Panasonic 52" Plasma using s-video (composite)

I am upgrading my mac mini but until then I'd like to watch some movies on my new Panasonic 50" Plasma (TH50PZ80U). The first I connected them together using a DVI-to S-Video adapter it worked but with low resolution (can't remember). The resolution was fine for movies but not reading. When I tried to increase the resolution the screen became all grey and black (like when there's no the TV channel in the old days). I tried all of the following but nothing has worked:
    1) Played with the mouse for an hour to try to change the resolution but kept starting new programs instead
    2) Connected to my apple display cinema, change resolution to the minimum, and then reconnected it and nothing
    3) Asked a friend to bring his laptop to do screen sharing but my OS 10.4.11 doesn't support this functionality
    4) Tried starting in safe mode and it won't start in safe mode. It gets stock on the gray apple screen at launch
    5) Tried getting an HDMI cable but this mac mini is not strong enough for the plasma screen. It kept going black after a few minutes
    6) Tried using keyword shortcuts with SwitchResX but I couldn't seem to find the right sequence.
Remember that I tried to the above blind since the screen was all blurry.
    Can someone help. Thanks

+I tried with an HDMI cble, through a DVI adapter, but it seems that my 1st generation mac mini is not powerful enough for that. It comes out at first but as soon as I start any application, it looses signal+
I'll ask again; what happens if you try starting in Safe mode connected by HDMI? I understand that with a normal start and running 1080p, the mini is not necessarily stable. But if you start safe, or start normally, and quickly change the resolution to something lower than 1080p, the mini should be "powerful enough" to run the Panasonic at 720p for example. That should not present a problem.
If you really just want to get back to using the S-Video interface at 640 x 480, you should be able to throw out the display preference files to get back to a clean start. That usually works. Try the following; in /Library/Preferences find the file com.apple.windowserver.plist and throw it in the trash or drag it to the desktop. Find also in /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/ByHost the file com.apple.windowserver.xxxxxxxx.plist where xxxxxxx is a string of letters and numbers and yourusername is the name on the main user account and throw that in the trash, too (or drag it to the Desktop). Then restart and see if function returns to S-Video when connected to the Panasonic.

  • Strange resolution problem mac mini 2010 w lion 10.7.3

    Hi!
I use XBMC as a media center client, and did the update to 10.7.3 yesterday. This update gave me a problem with the resolution on a 55 "LED TV.
If xbmc is running and I switch the source on the television to for example, tuner or blueray player, and then switch back to the mac mini running xbmc, the resolution changes, everything is so big on the screen that you cant read it. I need to force down xbmc and turn back to lion, and then start xbmc again.xbmc is running 1080i 50 Hz PAL, the same for lion.
My mini is always on, and if i leave it over night or some hours, the resolution in lion changes to 960x540 60 Hz NTSE by itself. therfore i belive the problem is lion and not the xbmc. it looks like the mini forget the settings. I tried to format the mini and installed a frech copy of lion 10.7.3 Still problems!
Anyone?  please help me, I use the Mini very much and this is an annoying problem

I ran a few more tests and this problem has something to do with the Video Card sensing the TV (or at least I think). The resolution drops to 960x540 HiDPI 60 Hz NTSC when I return from TV to HDMI (Mac Mini) after any of the following:
    1. Screen saver was activated
    2. Screen was switched off by Lion Power management
I don't beleive this to do with any application running like Plex or XMBC. I tested this with no applications running just what ever Lion loads in the begining.
I tried reseting the PMU but that didn't help.
The only workarround I found was not to uese any screen savers and not allow the screen to switch off (Power Saving Options)
I have submitted a bug report to Apple hopefully they will look into it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Should the bluetooth in an ipad 1 recognise bluetooth from a mac mini (snow leopard) or iphone4?

Hello, i have an ipad1 64gb 3g which obviously has bluetooth.  When searching devices it has never recognised another device, particularly the mac mini and iphone.  Bluetooth is switched on.  I would like to eventually be able to wirelessly sync calenders, contacts, photos etc without hard wire connecting.  Should this be possible between apple devices???

Not possible with Bluetooth as they don't have the FTP profile (File Transfer Protocol).
WiFi syncing between your computer, or iCloud and your iPad will be available in iOS 5

  • Trouble pairing bluetooth keyboard with mac mini

I bought a generic bluetooth keyboard and I am trying to use it with a Mac mini using 10.6.8.  The bluetooth setup sees "Bluetooth Keyboard" and connects to it.  I enter the passcode on the keyboard, but after about 25 seconds it says "The pairing attempt was unsuccessful.  This configuration of Mac OS X and Bluetooth software could be invalid or unsupported."  If I watch the bluetooth control panel during this process, it says it is connected and paired as soon as I hit "return" but then disappears when I get the message.  I already tried trashing com.apple.bluetooth.plist and restarting.  I made sure nothing was on top of the Mac, and turned off the WiFi on my router, but nothing helps.

Update:  I tried to pair with my bluetooth cell phone.  If I initiate the connection from the Mac, same thing.  However, I was able to successfully pair and download pictures, if I initiate from the phone.  ???

  • Sleep problems, Mac Mini

Ever since I upgraded to 10.4.10, my Intel Mac Mini refuses to sleep. It starts to go to sleep, but then something happens and the login screen returns. Has anyone else had this problem?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are a couple of things that you might try:
Firstly, open Disk Utility (in Applications>Utilities) and with the internal drive selected, click the button for 'repair permissions'.
Secondly, since sleep issues are often caused by USB-connected devices, try starting the Mac, then unplugging all devices and waiting to see if it sleeps OK in that instance. If it does not, then it is clear the issue is with the system, while if it does, then it's with a device connected to the system and you can then try connecting each to see which one then prevents sleep.
Thirdly, download and install the appropriate 10.4.10 combo update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/ The combo update is regularly known to resolve issues of this sort, so while it's a long download, it's worth trying if 1 and 2 above don't help.

  • IPad won't bluetooth pair with Mac mini

I would like to use Mobile Mouse by RPA Tech on my IPad mini  to control my Mac mini running OS X  10.6.8.  It would be my preference to use a Bluetooth PAN instead of WiFi,   I say this because Bluetooth peripherals seem to auto-connect better than Wifi, might be my imagination.  Anyway, I can't get my iPad to pair with the Mac.  The Mac sends a code, the iPad asks if I want to pair, then the pairing comes back as unsuccessful.  Any ideas?

It is not designed to. The ipad will not even connect with it with air drop. You can only pair a mouse or keyboard.

  • Lion Grafik Problem Mac mini 2010

    Hallo,

  • Bluetooth and two mac minis

I have a Mac Mini PowerPC which I have a dlink bluetooth adapter for and I just got a new Mac Mini Intel Core Duo with build-in bluetooth.
I would like to buy a cheap KVM that can handle the DVI so I can share a monitor and I was wondering how I could use a one bluetooth mouse and keyboard between both computers. I currently use a USB keyboard and mouse and a KVM w/DVI and USB is expensive. Does anyone have any experience using bluetooth as an alternative to a USB KVM switch on two computers running at the same time. How would I move back and forth between computers using bluetooth? Before I buy a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, I was just wondering if any one out there had tried it and how well it worked? Or should I forget the bluetooth and buy a KVM w/ DVI and USB support.

In this instance I've found it easier to go all-USB rather than switching bluetooth around; use a cheap KVM switch and you can go back and forth instantly from machine to machine using the same keyboard, mouse and monitor. Set up the older machine to share its DVD drive over your LAN and you're good to go.
Another solution that works really well is to use Teleport by abyssoft.com. It's a pref pane that automatically shares your BT devices between different Macs. For example, f I have my laptop set up next to my iMac and both running the software. I'm using a wired keyboard and BT mouse. If I move the cursor to the left of the iMac's screen it automagically jumps to the laptop's screen, and I continue working on the laptop with the same keyboard and BT mouse. It even will carry across clipboard items from one machine to another. Super cool, and works especially well if both computers have their own monitor (if both share the same monitor you would still have to either run one headless with screen sharing, or use a hardware monitor switch (BTW, some monitors can take two inputs and use a button to switch say between VGA and HDMI, or even switch automatically. Maybe you're lucky enough to have one of those).
