Bluetooth Signal Strength?

I just recently purchased a LG VX8300 and I've been successful in sync my files with a third party program called Bitpim. It took me MANY attempts with the program to try transfer files using Bluetooth. I thought it was something wrong in the program settings or in my bluetooth settings. I've come to the conclusion that the actual Bluetooth connection is the problem. Here's my reasoning...
When I tried to sync my phone and my mac the program goes through a bunch of steps and comes to a halt immediately when the files are supposed to transfer.
I TRIED EVERYTHING to get the files to transfer.
ONLY when I turned my wireless keyboard and mouse off, (I had to be quick...I would click on the sync button and quickly turn my mouse off) the program worked perfectly. The files transfered extremely fast and everything worked great. The moment I turn my mouse and keyboard back on, the program fails to transfer the files.
Is there is anything I can do to get a stronger connection between my mac and my phone? It is very annoying to have to disconnect my peripherals any time I want to transfer files to my phone. Any suggestions? tips? thoughts?

do not use bluetooth use wireless let me explain
bluetooth on mac only works good if you are right
next to the mac mini where wireless you can get 30
feet away and still have the mac keyboard and mouse
work
i havent had any problems using my wireless keyboard
and mouse but when i try to use my bluetooth keyboard
and mouse the thing just becomes unstable as heck
What? Wifi keyboard and mouse? Never heard of that. You sure you're not talking about standard RF? I don't think Apple makes their keyboard and mouse with standard RF, only bluetooth.

  • Does LabView display the Bluetooth signal strength when running on Windows XP?

I am interested in getting the Bluetooth signal strength in a Windows XP application. I would like to use the Microsoft bluetooth drivers for my application. First, Does LabView display the Bluetooth signal strength when running Windows XP? Secondly, If it does what Windows API(s) does it use to get access to this information?

    Hi,
It does not seem like the Bluetooth VIs allow you to display the signal strength and I can definitly enter that as a product suggestion for the Bluetooth functionality in LabVIEW. For now, I would suggest going through the Windows API and searchingn for RSSI - Received Signal Strength Indication. I did not have a lot of luck in my searches through Microsoft, but you can give that a shot and post back with any more headway you make.
Also, you can try going to SourceForge.net. Just doing a search for Bluetooth and RSSI popped up several hits of code that has been developed for Bluetooth applications. Then, you can see about creating a DLL call to a particular function that will return RSSI information to you, to which
you can then use in LabVIEW with the Call Library Node.vi.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

  • Bluetooth BToes signal strength?

    Hi folks
Is there anyway i can boost my BToes signal strength? I have a internet connected pc up stairs and the Laptop uses the bluetooth to connect to the PC to use the internet. It works great when its in the same room but when downstairs it's very slow :( Even when the laptop is infront of the PC it says the sianl is weak altho it works quiet fast (ping of 40ish) its only if i lift the laptop and have it about 5cm away from the dongle that the strength goes to "Good"
    Thanks for any help
    Class

You can't boost the power, but check in the specification the power class of your BT device.
Not always are the same (even if the radio block is mostly manufactured with SiliconRadio). Maximum power could be almost 100mW.
Don't expect much more then 10m anyway.
    For longer distance use 802.11(g)

Bluetooth worked fine until I upgraded to iOS 5. Now I can't make calls. Get bluetooth symbol in car but no signal strength bars. Try to make a calll and can't do it. Music is also intermittant. Wifes phone ( Samsung) works fine. Problem began aftger upgrade

I fixed a similar problem on my Audi after hours of struggle!!!
I turned off Siri from settings.  I deleted bluetooth pairing with my car ("forget this device").  I re-established bluetooth connection.  I turned Siri back on.  All fine (so far).
It seemed to be Siri related.
If this works for the rest of you kindly pass it along to one or two of the other 1000 posts on this issue.  People are very frustrated right now.  Its not just Audi and Lexus and Ford - its every make/model on the planet!  This one is not obvious.

  • The signal strength on my first gen AE is dropping off.

The signal strength on my first gen AIrport Extreme is dropping off.  Is this an early indication of pending failure?

Well, the First Generation AirPort Extremes are about 5 years old now, and 5 years of 24/7 operation is pretty good for a modem or router, so it might be time to start thinking about upgrading to a new, faster dual band model.
Personally, I replace the modem and any routers at about 4-5 years, even if they are operating normally. But there are other things to think about as well.
Chances are, there are far more wireless networks around you than there were even a few years ago, so heavy competition for the very limited number of channels that are available may be slowing down your signal significantly.
Five years ago, I could find two or three wireless networks around me. Today, there are over twenty.
I noticed that my neighbor next door was installing a new wireless camera and security system a few days ago, and he told me it was up and running yesterday.  Yesterday, my wireless slowed down about 20%...not sure why...but I have an idea.
If you have added other wireless devices like cordless phones, Bluetooth accessories, a baby monitor, a new wireless thermostat and who knows what, all of these things can affect the performance of wireless network communications.
You have not provided any specifics on your network as far as the slow down is concerned, or mentioned any steps that you might have taken to investigate, so until we know more, we'll have to leave it at generalities and possibilities.
You never know. A new router might be just the ticket.....or.....it may offer no improvement at all. Every few days, we see a post from a user who has added a new router...and their network performance has dropped.
For this reason, if you are thinking of replacing the AirPort Extreme, you might want to check with the store on their return policies before you buy.

  • Incredibly Variable Airport Signal Strength

I'm getting very inconsistant Airport reception on my 17" MBP, which is on my desk - about 12 meters from a Netgear Router.
As I type this message I get two bars, three bars, no bars, four bars, two bars, (all within 10 seconds). My wife's Mac mini (which is approx 3ft closer to the router) has a rock solid four bars.
Looking at the signal strength in "Internet Connect" the signal's all over the place - from 0% to about 80% and all points in-between. And randomly it drops out altogether for a moment or two.
I moved the router and changed the antenna for a directional one (which improved the average strength of the signal but not the stability); I've tried different channels; I've tried facing the MBP in different directions.
It's a little annoying, 'cause if I hit a website just as the signal drops out I get a "not connected to the internet" message.
Is this just a quirk of signals strength and atmospheric pressure? Or is there something fundamental that I've missed? We don't have a microwave, and I can't think of any other sources of inteference. And to get the router any closer would require quite a bit of rewiring - which seems to be somewhat contrary to the whole point of wireless networking!
Shall I give it up and run a cable from my wife's computer?

b and g are both on 2.4GHz although b seems impacted more by cordless phones and other devices for some reason.
I just upgraded my home net to g and the signal on this MBP is much more consistent (solid 4 bars mostly) and the range is 20-30 feet better.
One thing I did notice before upgrading was that Airport was more 'robust' when I turned off Bluetooth ...

  • Sudden Decreased Wifi Signal Strength

I recently "upgraded" my internet from 35 to 50, and since then have noticed that my wifi has been absolutely terrible.  I can't even use my Galaxy S4 because unless I'm no further than about 50 feet away, it disconnects so many times that I want to throw it through a wall.  And now I'm about to go over my monthly data allowance because it never allows me to be connected to wifi.
I walk my dog daily and noticed that before I could make it all the way down the block, a good 100 yards, and still be connected to my home wifi.  Now it doesn't even kick in until I'm literally walking in the front door.  I've been reading all of the blogs and have seen tons of similar complaints from other customers, but am just wondering if by some miracle someone on here would have some advice for me that will actually work.  I've reset the router, changed the channels, turned off my phone's bluetooth....nothing has worked.
Anyone out there have the miracle cure?  I'll owe you one!

Since nobody has jumped in with a miracle cure, let me start a dialog with this.
It seems unlikely that your wifi range would change just because you changed speed plans.   Do you have another WiFi device, a laptop, etc., that you can check your WiFi signal strength with?  As a troubleshooting step, I would want to eliminate the possiblity that it's your Galaxy S4 that has developed a problem receiving WiFi signals.
If you can confirm that your phone is not the problem, my suggestion would be add a 3rd party wireless access point to your network, Netgear, Linksys, etc.  While I've had no problem with my Actiontec router, I (and others) have found that its WiFi coverage doesn't measure up to other manufacturers' WiFi devices.

  • Weak Bluetooth Signal MacBook Pro 2011 Lion - Wireless Speaker Adapter

I just bought a wireless bluetooth speaker adapter (http://amzn.to/IRhKlX) and my signal strength between it and my macbook pro is very low, around -70dB in the bluetooth preferences thing. While it works with my cell phone, and two other non-mac laptops, the audio from my mac sounds like a skipping cd, and I'm about 2 meters away with nothing blocking the line of sight. Even if I place my mac next to the adapter, the audio quality doesn't seem to improve, though the signal strength increases to about -60dB. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on here?
    Thanks!

Any or all of the following third-party system modifications may be contributing to your problem:
    Apogee device and/or driver
    Tuxera NTFS driver
If the panic is recurrent, I suggest you uninstall them, one at a time, according to the developers' instructions, to see whether you can identify which one is at fault. A conflict between modifications may be involved. Reboot and test after each uninstallation.
Back up all data before making any changes.

  • TS1559 wifi signal strength problem

my ipad 3 wifi signal strength  is very (increase or decrease) and some time its appear one bar
please tell me what i do for its solution
    thanks

Could be a router problem or settings problem.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Does the Note 4 have better signal strength than the Note 3?

I have a note 3 that continually drops calls and bounces from 4 bars to 1 bar over the course of time with the phone being stationary.  I believe my problems started with the last software update (as documented in numerous forums) but both Verizon and Samsung give no credibility to problems raised on internet forums.  The people on these forums apparently "lack technical expertise" was my take on their explanation.
So far they, Verizon, is following exactly the same course of action to try to correct my issues as other folks have stated they tried with tech support.  Replacement of the SIM card did nothing.  Software reflash is next followed by a factory reset with no additional apps allowed to download to the phone.
I have not looked at a Note 4 nor do I know anyone that has one so I am reaching out for information.  What is the Note 4 running for software and if you owned a Note 3 previously did you experience signal strength issues where you felt you shouldn't have?  If you had, or have, weak signal strength were you able to compare it to another android phone on the same carrier to see if the problem was specific to you phone?
I understand the bars are not the best indication of signal strength but they are a quick indication.  Under the mobile networks I usually have -100+ dBm and 30 +asu.  If it is a software caused problem neither Verizon or Samsung knows anything about it which is good news because they should be able to correct it.  I have my doubts the people on the forums are the crackpots they make them out to be.  I suggested they are people like me who are desperate for help with a problem Verizon gave up on.
If the Note 4 is better I know what to ask for when they hit the end of the road with me.  That will happen software and reset wise in the next week then I am off to "getting someone else's problem phone" sent to me for a swap.  Last time they tried this the junk phone they sent didn't even recognize the sim card!
Thanks for any facts you can provide about your experience with the Note 3 and Note 4 as related to signal strength in both areas with strong and marginal service.

I have an iPhone 6 on Sprint for work and it stinks, I don't like the service or the phone.  Had an iPhone 5s prior and although I didn't care for it it was still better than the 6.
I had a software reflash done at Best Buy and a factory reset at Wireless world.  Reflash went smooth but I should have done the factory reset myself or had Best Buy do it.  It will take me days to get the phone back to where I had it.  Kies software from Samsung does backup the phone but you lose all the changes you have made to the Home screens and some other apps need attention to get them functional.
Signal strength remains the same but need to use it for a few days to know if it still drops calls and breaks up.  If it does next on the list is running in safe mode for a few days to see if an app is causing it.  If the problem still persists I have the choice of replacing it with insurance, money out of my pocket.  Sending it to Samsung for testing and repair (if necessary), or having Verizon send a replacement refurbished phone.  Probably will go with the refurbished phone and hang on to mine for a few days as well.  If the refurb isn't any better I will return it and then send mine to Samsung.
According to Wireless World the insurance company will pay me for my phone if I trade it in before a year is up.  May get up to 50% of full retail.  Not sure what to trade it in for if I go that route.

  • Iphone in Great Britian discovers Apple tech problem - Signal Strength -

    November 25, 2007
    Signal trouble: British iPhone mystery
Is O2’s network to blame, or Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone?
That’s the question posed by more than a few British iPhone owners who purchased the device in the past two weeks and have been struggling ever since to get decent telephone reception on it.
The problem surfaced two days after the phone went on sale in the U.K. when “Matlock” in Derbyshire started a discussion thread on Apple’s support board entitled “UK 02 (poor signal strength/reception problems)”:
My iphone can barely pick up even the slightest signal, although on occasion can pick up 3 ars, only for it to drop out again. I have two other 02 phones, a Sony Erricson and a Nokia n95 with no reception problems at all. Is anyone experiencing same problem with their iphone, I would like to hear from you. (link)
Two weeks later, Matlock’s query has received more than 100 replies (and 3,723 pageviews), most of them registering similar complaints. Some users found that reinstalling the software made a difference. When others returned their phones for new ones, the problem went away (although some reported that the new phones were no better).
Definitive U.K. sales figures are not available, but O2 reported that it sold “tens of thousands” of iPhones the first weekend it was available.
Several posters on the Apple discussion board volunteered that unlike the complainants, they were getting great reception on their iPhones. And many owners with signal problems expressed pleasure with how well the device performed its other functions.
But unlike American iPhone owners, who tend to blame any reception headaches on AT&T’s (T) cellular network, the assumption in the U.K. seems to be that the signal problem is Apple’s. The impression is reinforced by O2, which has been referring callers directly to the manufacturer.
One clue is that many British iPhone owners can, like Matlock, compare the signal strength on their iPhone with other cellphones using the same network (one user even posted photos showing the phones side by side). Another is that the indicator on the iPhone tends to jump to five bars as soon as it is placed in the charging dock, which suggests that the problem is battery related. As user Richard Catledge points out:
It says in the manual that phone signal is adjusted to the minimum power when not in use, just enough to detect the incoming pings, then it will power up to get the best quality call. It is digital, so as long as the signal power is strong enough to reconstruct at the other end, more power is pointless. I suspect this is what you are seeing, or a slightly flakey implementation.
Meanwhile, the consensus on the discussion board is that unhappy owners should let Apple know. Writes one user who posts as ::…SAM…::,
The only way to get anything done about it is if people that have poor signal problems is to take your phone back and get it replaced. The more phones they get back, the sooner they will do something to fix the problem. Emails and complaints are fine, they can be put in a folder, high handset return numbers cant be so easy to hide under the rug.
Thanks to InformationWeek’s Alexander Wolfe for the link. See his report here.

Interesting post. My previous phone was an 02 XDA Exec, a smart phone based upon a common handset (forget which one), but the smart phone before that was the same. They all had one thing in common - poor reception.
tbh, I think its an inherent problem with smart phones. However, with my iPhone I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary really. Its better than the XDA, at least the iPhone doesn't drop out completely!
But compare it to a normal handset and the normal handset will normally have a much better reception strength.

  • IPhone 5s call signal strength is 3 bars and my calls are breaking up?

I switched from an iPhone 4s to an iPhone 5s and now my iPhone signal strength is 3 bars and my calls are breaking up? what gives?
I live on top of a hill in a major metropolitan city and my carrier has always been Verizon and my call signal strength has always been 5 bars and occassionally on a cloudy rainy day I had 4 bars. Since upgrading to the 5s my call signal strength at my home has never gone past 3 bars even when Wi-Fi is connected. When W-Fi is turned off and LTE service kicks in, the call signal strength flutters between 2-3 bars and if I am on a call, the person on the other end is telling me I am breaking up.  This has never happened with my iPhone 4, my iPhone 4s.  Is anyone else noticing signal problems?

I am also having the same exact issue. I had an iPhone 4S with Sprint servince and always had at least 4 bars of service (4 dots after iOS7 upgrade) and I am now fluctuating between 1 and 2 dots on my new iPhone 5S. I am also having people I am on the phone with tell me that I sound like I'm in a tunnel and or that I am breaking up. I am also hearing the breakup of voice service even when speaking to someone on a landline. I took my first iPhone 5S back to the store and traded it in for a new one and am having the same exact problem with this new 5S phone. I was told by the salesman at the store that the problem was due to the 5S is using different towers than the 4S and that the new towers for the 5S were still being implemented. Do I know this to be true or necesarily believe this? No. Do I hope it's true or that Apple will come up with a fix for this problem in the very, very near future? Yes. Apple, what is going on with my service? It's obvious that it's happening to users from all of the major American networks.

  • I updated to IOS 5 and now my signal strength drops sometimes clear to zero when I open an app.

I updated my Iphone 4 with the IOS 5 operating system.  When I use an application, including the phone app, my signal strength bars will drop from 4 or 5 bars to 1 bar and sometimes to no bars and searching for a signal.  When I exit the app the bars return tto what they were before.  I have an AT&T plan that operates in Mexico which is where I am now.  In Mexico it operates on the TelCell network.  Before updating the op system I had no problems with the signal strength dropping when I used an app.

    Hello timfromharris,
Have you gone to your date and time settings and verified that "set automatically" has been checked?
If you don't know where to go, it's Settings -> General -> Date and Time.
    Good luck!
