  • Dialing and Sending SMSs from Address Book

Just upgraded to a new iMac 24" from a G4 MD running OSX 10.4.8. I successfully used my Sony Z520 phone before to send SMSs, and dial via the address book, along with the normal sync and other functions.
On the new iMac, the SMS and dialing functions do not work, though it pairs and syncs with my address book fine.
My phone pairs easily, easier than on the old computer. I have tried to delete and re-pair with same results (no dialing, no SMS).
It does dial Skype and Jajah (another VOiP system). Works fine.
When I recieved a call before, I could see who was calling me, but now it just says "unknown" in the dialogue box.
Any ideas how to get this working again?

You can use the Sony Ericsson Address Book Enabler to add SMS and Calls support for over 40 of the latest Sony Ericsson phones:

  • Who changed Address Book SMS and Dial configuration settings ??

Address Book suddenly stopped allowing me to SMS from my K610i mobile phone... Furtunately someone posted a fix where you can add the phone id string to the AddressBook application settings.
Anyone know if there was there a recent update from Apple that changed some of the AddressBook application settings to disable this feature ?

With Bluetooth on, if you look at Address Book's window you should see a bluetooth icon on the top bar, to the right of the drop-down menu icon that looks like a wee gear wheel. This bluetooth icon needs to be blue for SMS messaging. If it is grey, click it and see if anything interesting happens.

  • D900 sms / call doesn't work with address book

    Unlike similar posts,
the 'SMS' and 'Dial with' options ARE avaliable and the phone pairs just fine.
However, when I type a message and send, nothing happens phone side. Same with dial a call.
The bluetooth emblem on the Adress book remains glowing blue. The phone doesn't seem to stay connected though(?).
at least I can sync now though (10.4.9)
    Thanks for any insight!!!

I'm also having this issue. While the phone appears to "pair" with Address Book and the options for SMS and dial are available, they perform no function at all as far as I can tell.
iSync works fine with the phone now however (thanks to 10.4.9). If anyone has any further information, it would be very much appreciated.

  • Connect to LDAP with Address Book and Mail

The admin guide for OD is pretty vague from what I've been able to figure out. How do I connect to my LDAP with Address Book and Mail? I'm sure this is a really simple setup and I'm just missing some minor detail.

  • Trying to sync iPod(s) with Address Book and iCal via iTunes

I've got 2 iPods one an iPod Nano (3rd GEN), 4GB the other is an iPod 60 GB Video (Fifth Generation) which is now vintage. When I try to sync either iPod on either my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion (10.8.2) or my MacBook Air running Lion (10.7.5) with Address Book or iCal which are both populated with several hundred entries on iCloud and locally.
With Sync Contacts I keep getting the following Comment "No contacts available Contact syncing cannot be enabled because there are no contacts available. Do you want to open Contacts and create contacts now?" Selecting either option has no effect. There are 731 on iCloud and 895 on my Mac.
With Sync Calendars I keep getting the following Comment "No calendars available Calendar syncing cannot be enabled because there are no calendars available. Do you want to open Calendar and create a calendar now?" Selecting either option has no effect.
    iTunes 10.7 (21) 64-bit
I've reset both iPods, no help.

You should have signed in with that address in the first place, but there is a workaround: go to System preferences>Mail, Contacts@ Calendars and add your @me.com address as an account there.

  • Problem with Address Book and Exchange

    Hello,
I have a little problem with Address Book and Microsoft Exchange 2003. I am able to connect to Outlook Web Access via Safari without problem. I see my contacts. Unfortunately when I setup everything needed in Address Book preferences (Synchronize with Exchange) the contacts didn't show in my Address Book. Strange thing is that no error is generated. can someone please help me what I am doing wrong ? Thanks in advance.

My suggestion is that you consider using Microsoft Entourage. For Exchange users on a Mac, Entourage is by far the best option. The down side is, you need to buy Microsoft Office 2004 to get Entourage, but your employer might own a site license, in which case, Office 2004 might not cost you anything.

  • Aperture remove integration with address book and faces

Is there a way to remove the Faces integration with address book?
Reason I ask is because there seems to be not a good way to integrate the faces with the address book unless there is? For example, in faces I probably have about 20 that are family and close friends. In my address book, I have maybe 200 contacts. When I face people in pictures, I don't want to choose from a list of 200. Plus I notice if I have a friend tagged already, they show up as my friend John, but show up in the list from address book as John B, so who do I pick? How can I just make it one? There are many people that I would want nicknames in faces for or like "Dad" instead of my dad's full name like I have in the address book.
Is anyone else having these issues? How to best integrate with address book or how do I remove the integration?

Even if I attempt to integrate the faces with address book by typing in the full name in the faces after click "i" in the face, then it combines it, but then the address book face disappears to blank with no picture.
very odd behavior, how are you guys dealing with this? Seems like some setting needs to be set otherwise I would think this issue would have been taken care of a long time ago by apple?

  • Adding voice commend to dial number in address book

Id like to figure out how to be able to add a voice commend that would enable me to dial phone number from my address book when i have my cellphone linked with my MBP via bluetooth.
Something along the lines of "Make call to FIRST_NAME LAST_NAME at (WORK, HOME, MOBILE)"
    anyone have any ideas

There is a collection of AppleScripts called Mail Scripts you can download at this link.
    http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
The script you want to use from the collection of included scripts is Add Addresses (Mail) which adds addresses found in the selected messages (in the header fields "From", "To", "Cc", and "Bcc") to the Address Book. This is much more flexible than the "Add Sender to Address Book" available in Mail and provides a convenient way for creating mailing lists.
    * Select all messages you want to use for creating the mailing list (for creating a mailing list, you would choose all messages in a mailbox which contains all messages on a certain topic).
    * Run the script and you get a list with all addresses contained in the selected messages - mark all the addresses you want to add to the Address Book using the checkboxes.
    * From the popup menu, choose which group you want to update with the selected addresses or select "Create new Group..." and enter the name for the new group to be created.
    * The script checks whether an address is already present before adding it to the Address Book in order to avoid duplicate entries. If additional information is available for an entry already present in the Address Book (e.g., full name information for an entry which had prior been email-only), the entry will be updated.

  • Setting up Snow Leopard Server with Address Book, iCal for Small Business

    Hello Folks,
I have a small business with 2-3 people and I want to setup Snow Leopard Server on a Mac Mini. I have everything in place, RAID, Backup drive etc.
What I need is a guide on how to setup the server correctly and how to setup Address Book Server, iCal Server, DNS, etc. I was in IT a long while back but have gone back to my creative roots and sworn off IT but I am in a situation where my IT guy's wife is pregnant so he is busy painting the baby's room, etc.
I was looking at Snow Leopard Server for Dummies and a few other books. Do you guys have any suggestions on resources for me to read or research that would give me very straightforward steps in getting this setup. I am at a point where I can re-install from scratch if needed.
For the ease of those that might respond let's assume I know my way around Mac and general networking as a whole.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Cheers,
    Jason

    Hi Guys,
First of, I will give you a brief background on me regarding networking as a mac user since 1994. I can setup and network multiple macs without a server in our home and small office. Turning file, print and internet sharing with a regular Mac OS X client version at no problem at all. This would be my first time setting up a Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server.
I'm in the same boat as Jakekub but we do not have a static IP from our DSL provider. We just bought a Mac Mini Server for our small office with 3 iMacs and 1 MacBook. We will just use the server for internal usage and to centralized things out and use some of server's features like Address Book, Mail, iCal etc. I've search the forums and found Orhidy's post here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2148553
I even followed the sample IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS Server and I think I had it correctly setup initially. And I think I got it all running on the basic setup base on his instructions. So I tried to test my DNS settings via Terminal > hostname then got answer as
    servername.companyname.private
And double checking DNS again with a command: sudo changeip - checkhostname and was given an answer of:
    Primary address = 192.168.1.192
    Current Hostname = servername.companyname.private
    DNS Hostname = servername.companyname.private
The names match. There is nothing to change
    dirserv:success = "success"
But here's another one that bugs me. I tried to follow from "Mac OS X Snow Leopard for Dummies" the command line:
    NSLOOKUP hostname
    and got an answer of:
;; Got SERVFAIL reply from 192.168.1.192, trying next server
    Server: 192.168.1.1
    Address: 192.168.1.1#53
** server can't find hostname: NXDOMAIN
So does it mean that I still haven't configured my server properly?
Thank you all for the help in advance!

  • Palm contacts do not sync with address book

Contact data from my Palm Tungsten does not sync with Address Book. I am running the latest Palm OS and Desktop with iSync 1.5 and Panther OS 10.3.9. Calendar is syncing correctly. According to the log, iSync thinks that the Address Book is also working but no data gets transferred in either directon. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi,
i also used iSync for a long time with my Tungsten. BUT(!) iSync is very poor! I learned to know MissingSync and this is a really cool App! Now i have categories in my calender after syncing with my Titanium, i have all adresses and there are a lot of more cool features. Look here:

  • Is it possible to log calls with address book?

Does anyone know how to log calls with address book - I usually dial right out of addessbook (via blue tooth) and always get the incoming calls as pop-ups on my screen. I was wondering if address book is logging them anywhere that I could access. I would appreciate anybody's help! Thanks, Paul

Thanks for the response. Sometimes I just think my macs can do anything!
I often use the incoming phone info through caller to create/ update contacts. Perhaps there is something third- party out there that will fill the bill.
Anyway, have a great day! Paul
