Bluetooth tethering stopped working

Hi,
I’ve been using my phone’s data connection to go online with my macbook by way of Bluetooth. It’s been working fine for about a year, but sometime in the past few months (possibly after the 10.5.6 update) it stopped working. Now when I try to hit the connect button in the network preference panel, I get "A Bluetooth serial failure has occurred: Failed to open an RFCOMM serial channel. Check if authentication needs to be enabled in your device."
I’m sure that nothing has changed on the phone, so somehow the OS isn’t recognizing the phone as a modem anymore. Can anyone offer up any help?
Thanks

deleting the blues tooth preferences would reset them to default.
but to revert to an earlier of bluetooth you may want to try replacing 2 bluetooth drivers from your install DVD.
Use pacifist so extract and install
/System/Library/Extensions/IOBluetoothFamily.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/IOBluetoothHIDDriver.kext
disclaimer I have not needed to do this on my system and cannot be responsible if anything breaks it is just a suggestion.

    Hi, EJ13.
I see you are having issues with backing up you iPhone and have tried a couple troubleshooting steps.  There are a couple more steps I could recommend in the article below.

  • Bluetooth keyboard stops working

My bluetooth keyboard stops working while I use Photoshop CS4. It happened 4 days ago. I called applecare and they asked that I take the keyboard into a dealer. Keypad worked at the dealer. Brought it home and it worked.
When I pair the keyboard to bluetooth the keyboard functions, but in all other applications it doesn't. I think it must be the computer an not the keyboard.

It's been a while but I am sure the issue lies with the bluetooth now. I did the SMC reset and the same issue only happened once since. This time I plugged in my logitech USB wireless mouse and it worked fine. I tried to disconnect my Apple bluetooth mouse and couldn't get it to connect again. I restarted the machine by clicking Apple->shut down->restart and when the computer restarted, neither the keyboard nor the mouse worked. I again used the Logitech wireless mouse to try to see my bluetooth setting. However I get the message of "bluetooth not available". I'm guessing my bluetooth unit in this new iMac isn't functioning properly. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Bluetooth Mouse stops working after software updates

    Hello,
I've been using a Bluetooth mouse with my X220 Tablet for several months now. After fiddling with device manager to ensure that the Thinkpad Bluetooth device does not have the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" setting set, things were working perfectly.
However, after running through some windows & Lenovo updates, the mouse now seems to work for a while, but after any idle time, the mouse stops working. Turning the mouse off & back on seems to cause it to reconnect, and it works until the next time it goes idle for 2 minutes.
I've gone through device manager, and made sure both the Bluetooth & USB Root devices are set not to power down (per http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Bluetooth-mouse-stops-working-from-time-to-tim... ), but still no luck.
The software updates applied from the Lenovo System Update tool were:
    ThinkPad Power Management Driver: 1.67.04.05
    ThinkPad Power Manager: 6.64.4
    Lenovo Solution Center: 2.4.002
    Intel G1/G2 Display Driver: 9.17.10.3347
Also, some windows updates  which don't seem related (mostly security), but I can lookup the list of KB numbers if helpful.
Are there any known issues with the power manager updates that might affect this? If so, what's the best way to revert to the last working version?
    Thanks!

Try doing a PRAM reset and see if that helps, also put in new batteries as that may make a difference.

  • Bluetooth mouse stops working when adding a printer: 10.10.2

    Hi,
I'm using a MacBook Pro 2012 Retina, upgraded to 10.10.2.  Since upgrading to 10.10.2 I have been unable to connect to my Canon MG6150 that is plugged into the USB port of the Time Capsule (3TB).  Those problems will be detailed in a separate post.
I have tried deleting the printer and creating a new printer and when I click on the + and get the window to select a printer, the bluetooth mouse stops working - the message comes up to show "Connection Lost".  I have to select the printer manually and only when I have returned to the main Printer window in Settings & Preferences does the mouse connection work again.
Weird.  Between this and not being able to set up the scanning features again (that used to work), I'm feeling underwhelmed...

sounds like an IRQ conflict. See if disabling plug and play in the bios solves it. Arch's kernel provides this already.

  • Yosemite - Bluetooth speaker stops working

I have an issue where my Bluetooth speaker stops working.  It shows up on the devices list under Bluetooth but when I try to connect it does not do anything.
Rebooting fixes the problem.   But then the next day when I try to use the speaker again it does not work.
This started happening with the upgrade to Yosemite.
    Please advise, thanks,
    OS X 10.10.1.  MacBook Pro 15" Retina mid 2012

Scratch that.  Things have improved in 10.10.2 - I am able to reconnect to the Bluetooth speaker more often, but it does sometimes fail and I have to reboot.

  • My bluetooth suddenly stopped working soon after I upgraded to OS 10.9.4. I rebooted SMC, didn't work. Any other ideas?

My bluetooth suddenly stopped working soon after I upgraded to OS 10.9.4. I rebooted SMC, didn't work. Any other ideas? Don't know if it's related to the upgrade. I see other complaints about bluetooth in the thread but none of the solutions offered there have worked for me.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • IPhone 3G Tethering stop working after upgrade to OS4

Hi, I have upgraded my iPhone 3G to OS4 and Tethering stop working. I am using iTunes 9.2 for both Mac OS Snow Leopard and Win XP. It indicate that USB is not connected for both OS. Any help will be appreciated.

I had the same problem after attempting to update last night (on my 3G). The loss of wifi was the least of my worries, however. The update process wiped out my entire phone and reset it as a new phone, and never performed the back up. So, I wasn't able to restore from a back up. It's a glitch in the update, nothing that I did, or didn't do. The issues are too long to list... UGH!
After hours on the phone with AppleCare Sr Support last night, and 5 hrs at Apple Store today (no exaggeration!), they replaced my phone entirely. Luckily, I had a MobileMe account so, I was able to retrieve/restore my contacts and apps (although the data within my apps was lost - so I have to go through all of them again). Also lost all iCal data... two years worth... not sure how that happened, since that was also synced via MobileMe... the whole update is a mess... If you haven't updated yet, I would wait to update until they work out any kinks.

  • My Bluetooth has stopped working

    Please help.
My bluetooth has stopped working, I have the bluetooth icon in the menu bar but when ever I go to turn it on it stays off. I have looked at my bluetooth preferences to try and pair my phone to it, when it prompts me to turn on bluetooth it still stays off and grayed out in the menu bar.
Is there a way that I can check if my bluetooth is still functioning on my macbook?
    Thanks

  • Bluetooth suddenly stops working?

Has anyone had the issue where the factory Bluetooth suddenly stops working on the PowerMac G5?
My G5 (Dual 2 gig) has been working like a champ, and suddenly during use or when it is attempting to sleep, will seem to "lose" the computer. The computer in System Preferences can still see the bluetooth power levels, they appear to be paired, but moving the mouse and/or keyboard does nothing.
A reboot seems to be the only thing that clears it. The only recent addition was a wired USB camera cradle, and the problem did seem to start around then, but I don't know why that would impact Bluetooth. Any ideas?

The problem turned out to be a combination of RF and a hardware problem.

  • USB Bluetooth adapter stops working after 10.8.5 upgrade

For several months I've been using an IOGear USB Bluetooth adapter and a USB KVM to share my Magic Trackpad between a Mac Mini and a MBP, both machines happily running 10.8.4.
Tonight I upgraded my MBP to 10.8.5 and now Bluetooth is apparently disabled when I have the USB adapter plugged in:
Now I'm left with the unappealing decision of using my Trackpad with only my Mac Mini, my MBP, or constantly repairing it with either to share.
I've been shockingly happy with this little trick, but I guess it was too good to last. Anyone have any ideas why using a USB Bluetooth adapter would stop working? Maybe I need a different adapter now?

Thanks! That solved my problem. I just had to swap in my device id which was different than yours.
I converted my USB adapter's idProduct value from hexidecimal (0x2101) into decimal (8449) and added this configuration:

  • IPad2 Bluetooth just stopped working !?!!! Help !!!!

    Hi,
Something really wierd just happened. I have been searching for simila issues but have founf nothing else in the forums.
I have an iPad2 which was working with a paired keyboard (apple 2 AA battery powered bluetooth wireless keyboard). all was good, and this has worked for quite a while, until suddenly when I went to enter data the screen keyboard appeared and the bluetooth keyboard no longer worked.
    - Thought it might be the keyboard so checked it paired with my iPhone, it did and and all was well.
    - unpaired from iPhone and tried to pair again with iPad, keyboard not discovered !
    - Did the usual bluetooth on/bluetooth off, power on/ power off, resets, reboots etc .... issue remains
note the iPad 2 bluetooth is stuck saying "Searching..." doesn't discover any bluetooth devices and basically is bricked !
WiFi works, everything else seems to be OK
Has anyone else seen this ?
    Regards,
    Mark

I have a similar problem, iPad 2 dosen't see any bluetooth devices. So I've tested the bluetooth keyboard with other iPads and it works fine. The weird thing is that if I take a completely different iPad and restore it with this user's data and apps the bluetooth on that iPad stops working. And once I wipe that user's profile from the iPad bluetooth starts working again. Even if I reset all settings it won't pair with any bluetooth devices, it just sits there searching. Is there any apps or anything that can interfere with how bluetooth works?

  • Canon 7D tethered stopped working

When I click the shutter either on the camera or using LR, the message 'Transferring Files from Camera' stays and nothing happens.
I'm pretty sure this stopped working after upgrading to LR3.5
    I upgraded to LR3.6
    Tried three different USB cables
Tried each USB port with each USB cable combination
    Rebooted
    Followed every step here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/894/cpsid_89486.html
Note, everything works fine using Canon EOS Utility
I noticed someone mention upgrading to LR3.6C but I don't see where to download that. Wouldn't it be here?:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=113&platform=Windows
    Also, in this article:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/842/cpsid_84221.html
5D, 1Ds Mark II, 20D, EOS 350D (Rebel XT/EOS Kiss Digital N) on Windows require a driver downloaded from Canon. This driver is not available for 64-bit versions of Windows.
Is it possible that the 7D should be included in that list?
    My setup:
    Sony VAIO laptop
    Window 7 x64 SP1
    Intel i5 2.67GHz
    4GB RAM
    USB 2.0
    LR3.6
Is anyone else successfully shooting tethered with a Canon 7D?

I'm happy to say that tethering is working after installing LR4.
    Thanks!

My Apple Bluetooth Keyboard has stopped working on letters Q thru I.  Any suggestions.  Is it worth repair, or just buy new?

From what you describe, I suspect the KB has failed.

I have the same bluetooth controller (0cf3:3005, Atheros AR3011) on my laptop (ASUS K53SV) and have the exact same problem. Bluetooth works for a while until tx errors start showing up:
    [24952.326871] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c1a tx timeout
    [24954.332842] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c52 tx timeout
    [24956.338826] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c24 tx timeout
    [24958.344882] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0405 tx timeout
    [24993.806536] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0408 tx timeout
    [25033.899824] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0408 tx timeout
    [25048.548327] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c14 tx timeout
    [25051.014213] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c14 tx timeout
    [25075.805968] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0408 tx timeout
Resetting the bluetooth device works sometimes but not always. There is always a chance that the device will just become unresponsive to any kinds of commands:
    # hciconfig hci0 reset
Can't init device hci0: Connection timed out (110)
I've tried various methods (block/unblock them with rfkill, `rmmod btusb` & `modprobe btusb`, etc) but none works after the device is "dead". The only way to recover seems to be powering off the laptop (simply rebooting doesn't fix the problem).
