Bluetooth Tethering w/ Vista

I'm having an issue getting my Bluetooth tethering setup with Vista. My USB tethering works perfectly fine. Pairing seems to work , the problem is when Vista is installing the iPhone/BT drivers. Vista can't seem to find any drivers for the "Bluetooth Peripheral Device". I have installed iTunes on this machine (my laptop, desktop is my main syncing machine) and that doesn't seem to fix anything.
Suggestions?
(w/ Rogers in Canada for carrier)
Thanks
Sean

hi there!
I have the same problem too. After trial and error, I managed to get tethering done with bluetooth. please do the following:
1. make sure your iphone shows up under bluetooth devices in your vista computer. else, click add and make sure bluetooth is switched on, on both computer and iphone. go to the properties and make sure under the services tab, Wireless iAP is selected.
2. ignore the message which shows that windows can't find drivers for bluetooth peripheral device. click the on the last option in the message.
3. go to iphone --> settings --> network --> tethering and switch it on.
4. go to network and sharing centre by right clicking on the network icon on the system tray.
5. on the left panel, click on manage network connections.
6. there should be a bluetooth network connection under personal area network. right click it and select view bluetooth network devices.
7. there should be a network access point (your iphone in this case). click on the connect button.
this should work and your iphone's tethering would be activated (blue coloured panels at the top).
till a permanent solution is found, just use this go-around method!
cheers!

  • Bluetooth tethering no longer working - iPhone 3GS (iOS4.1) and Macbook Pro

    Hi all,
I don't understand why this is not working anymore. In the past I had successfully paired & used a bluetooth tethered connection between my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.4) & my iPhone 3GS (pre 4.1). The network connection was working and I was able to surf the web/use MSN etc. This is not a feature I have used in quite some time and for some reason now it is not working. I have done several upgrades on my phone since I last used it, currently on iOS 4.1.
Lets pretend I am starting from scratch and my Macbook & iPhone do not know each other, devices have been forgotten on both.
    - iPhone & Macbook both are on & discoverable
    - On Macbook Pro I select "Set Up Bluetooth Device"
    - Macbook scans and detects my iPhone, I select "Continue"
    - Macbook connects with iPhone & displays 6 digit pin, also pairing notification is shown on iPhone with the same 6 digit pin
    - I select "Continue" on Macbook & "Pair" on iPhone
    - Connection is made, iPhone is now listed on Macbook and vice versa
    - From bluetooth menu (on Macbook) in the iPhone device menu I select "Connect to Network". Error is displayed on Macbook "The bluetooth network is unavailable. There was a problem connecting to your device..." & on my iPhone an error "Connection Unsuccessful. Make sure iPhone is turned on and in range".
    - When I try to connect from the iPhone an error is displayed "Connection Unsuccessful. iPhone is not supported" with a button to Forget Device.
    What... the ****?
This has worked in the past without a hitch. Has something changed between say iOS 3.x and 4.1 that might cause this to no longer work for me.
    Any protips are greatly appreciated!

Don't feel like a noob, my settings changed after the last update without warning and I was having the same issue as you until I found your post that alerted me to the fact that my internet tethering might be off!
So for others out there that are having this issue to turn tethering on go to Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering > On
Thank you!! I had already wasted over an hour repeatedly syncing and unsyncing my darn bluetooth connection.

  • Bluetooth tethering with Sprint is slowwwwww

Is this normal? I get fast speed on the mobile handset, but when bluetooth tethered with
the Mac...its super slow. I usually get like 700kbs on the handset, now im getting 100kbs the most.

I might have a solution for you, but its a crappy one.
I have the exact same problem with this phone and my new 17 Inch Macbook Pro.
What fixed it for me was using a Bluetooth Dongle instead of the built in Bluetooth. You need to add a second PAN connection in the Network Prefs and repair everything, but when you get it all configured correctly and use the Dongle instead of the built in Bluetooth, I bet it works flawlessly.
There is something wrong with how Apples newer Bluetooth hardware is interacting with this phone. I even went to an Apple Store and tested on another 17 inch Macbook to make sure it wasent just my computer. The older Macbooks worked fine, so its something in the newer hardware.
Call Apple, make them aware that this is an issue with all their newer stuff. Let them (and me) know if using an external bluetooth adapter fixed the issue for you.

  • Bluetooth tethering and notification with iOS6

    Hi there,
I've tethering my iPad (former iOS 5.1.1) with bluetooth and it works like
    Wi-Fi tethering at all.
This week iOS 6.1.3 is out and I think it's time to upgrade,
so I upgraded my iPad to the latest iOS.
After the update I found that I can't receive any push notification nor
iMessage at all with bluetooth tethering!
Is this a iOS6 feature or bug?
    Thanks for reading this.

This has been reported but I do not have any information at this point. Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.

  • Bluetooth Headset in Vista

Is there anyway to use a bluetooth headset with Vista? (Is it something to do with A2DP)
The headset I have works in Leopard (and previously in Tiger). It didn't require any driver software, and as far as I know there isn't any available for download from the manufacturer's site.
The fact that it works in Leopard should prove that the bluetooth card inside the Macbook Pro is capable of working with the headset, no?
Any help would be great, thanks.

I'm having similar problems. I have a pair of Logitech Freepulse A2DP headphones. They work fine in Leopard but not in Vista. They pair properly in Vista and say "connected" but no sound will transmit. I have tried testing and making sure the volume is up and everything but no dice.
My guess is that the Apple Bluetooth drivers don't support A2DP. Is this true?

    Hi all,
I switched to Windows Vista about a month ago, and my then N70 installed fine, using the USB cable, but not when connected via Bluetooth... I've just got my N95 and it's the same, there's no pre-installed drivers for it anywhere on the system as there were with previous versions of Windows...

    Hi All
I take it were experiencing "Bluetooth Perhiperal Device" in "Device Manager"
    This is what I have.
I have three "Bluetooth Perhiperal Devices" in Vista Device Manager with (!) by them, all related to the Nokia N95 - All appears to be working OK however, I don't like having drivers or devices in fault.
I have the latest software on my Nokia N95 and I am using the latest version of the Nokia Suite (6.83.14.1)
I did read that there is a problem with the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack on Vista, however when I switch to the Broadcom Software it wont let me comes up with an error message. (openmedia)
Is there any hope on the Horizon? - there does not appear to be a Vista Compatible Driver on the Nokia website.
With the Modem - I manually installed "Nokia Bluetooth Modem" instead of "Standard Modem over Bluetooth Link" so I can use it with my Laptop, and that works OK.
    Shunts....
I will mostly be communicating with a Nokia E72 Zodium Black

  • Using bluetooth tethering in iPad mini

can i use my nokia phone as modem for iPad mini through bluetooth tethering.I have done it with iPad touch 5th generation

You can use an iPhone (if your carrier supports it) as a personal hotspot for your iPad and use the phone's cellular connection to go online with your iPad - your iPad will see the phone as a wifi network.
If you are asking if you can share an internet connection from a wifi-only iPad then you can't, only cellular models potentially allow you to share its connection with other devices/computers.

  • Os3 Bluetooth tethering

Hi guys, quick question regarding bluetooth tethering on new os3. Does this mean I will be able to streeam music from my iPhone 3g to my car sterio via the parrot car handsfree kit that diverts calls through the sterio and speakers ?cheers

You're mixing up bluetooth with tethering.
Tethering is using the internet connection on the iPhone with a computer.
3.0 adds the bluetooth A2DP protocol so you'll be able to stream music through your parrot kit.

  • How can I see "access point" for "connection method" to use Bluetooth tethering?

I have been using WiFi tethering.  However, as everybody knows, the battery of my Nexus 5 goes down so fast.  Now I wish to use Bluetooth tethering.  I updated my Nexus 5 to Android 5.0.  I have a desktop PC, notebook PC and new Surface
Pro 3 all with Windows 8.1 Update.  Up to pairing everything goes OK but when I click the "Nexus 5" graphic on the control panel, I could see only "direct connection" (no "access point").  Some website indicates "KB290440"
but it is not found in the history of update.   I would therefore appreciate if somebody would kindly help me to use Bluetooth tethering.
By the way, the Windows system I am using is Japanese.
    Thank you in advance.

Some website indicates "KB290440" but it is not found in the history of update.
That's the latest "servicing stack".  I think it is optional.  More significant I think would be whether you have the latest rollup, which is also optional, so far.  E.g. at the top of View your update history see what you have for
    "Most recent cumulative update: "

  • Bluetooth problems under Vista on MBP

I'm intermittently having bluetooth issues under Vista in Bootcamp on a new Macbook Pro. I'm using a Kensington bluetooth mouse. Sometimes it won't wake up and I have to disable and re-enable the bluetooth driver in order to get it detect the mouse again.
I've also now experience my second BSOD with the error STOP: 0x0000007E on bthport.sys.
Seems like this migth be a bad Bluetooth driver. Under device manager it's just listed as a "Generic Bluetooth Adapter".
Anyone else experiencing these issues or know of a better driver I could get?
    Thanks.

I am having the same issue. Everything worked fine until the last week or so. I recently installed Vista SP1. Are you running Vista with SP1?

  • Bluetooth Tethering with iPhone 3G 3.0

I hope someone can help here.  I have searched through all these forums without any luck.
I am attempting to tether using th iPhone 3G 3.0 via BT with the T500 and I keep getting the message "bluetooth peripheral device" cannot be found.  I can however tether via the USB cable but for the life of me I cannot get BT to tether.
I have the latest BT software (6.1.0.5100) from Lenovo. I also tried the WICOMM software from Broadcom (http://www.broadcom.com/support/license.php?file=SetupBtwDownloadSE.exe) no luck.
BTW I can BT join the iPhone 3G with an Asus EeePC with Windows XP and tether all I want.  Works great actually.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    iPhone 3G 3.0

I spent some time figuring out how to tether with my iPhone 3G 3.0 - the steps below might or might not help you:
Configuration: I have T60 with Windows XP SP3
    1. Upgrad the Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Firmware Update to Version 2.1.211.299
    2. Upgrad the Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II to Version 5.5.0.6400
    3. Restart the laptop (#2 requires it)
    4. After restart enable the Bluetooth (Fn+F5)
    5. Go to My Bluetooth places
    6. Make sure iPhone is with enabled Bluetooth and ready for tethering
    7. Add a Bluetooth device, select the iPhone and pair it
    8. For Service Selection check PAN network access profile
    9. Finish

  • Need to know what cell carriers/phones support bluetooth tethering

I had the MotoQ9C for about a year and was using it (OS Windows Mobile 6.0) to tether with my macbook with no problems. However, the phone went belly up and they sent me a replacement. It had the 6.1 OS. Well, it no longer worked with the Macbook after that. So aggrivating. After much discussion with my cell carrier, Alltel, they let me out of my contract a year and a half early because this is a feature I MUST have with my phone and they claimed to have no OS and no phones which would support it.
SO, now I am on the hunt for a new service provider and a new phone. I have to be able to tether with my Mac. Have to. I was using it on a daily basis before I was sent the new phone and I am beyond annoyed that I suddenly can't do it anymore. The Alltel sup basically told me, "good luck" when I asked if she knew of any providers who DID support the Mac/phone tethering. She said she didn't know of any herself and she's been in the industry to 6 years. Ugh.
So, I know it can be done but I need help finding out how, who and where. If anyone is able to tether with their phone, could you please send me info on who you're using, what phone and how to set it up??? I'm on the hunt and need this info yesterday. : )
    Thanks in advance!

AT&T is correct (and donv doesn't seem to understand 'tethering' in this context) - tethering is currently not supported with the iPhone - not via USB nor Bluetooth. The iPhone itself is capable of tethering (either BT or USB) and can be used like that with carriers in other countries. AT&T may decide to support tethering via the iPhone at some point in the future, and will likely charge the same as they do for their other smartphones - an additional $30/month on top of the data plan.
So at the present time, the iPhone is not what you're looking for. But, any carrier with a device that supports tethering on their network will work with the MBP (phones from Nokia, Samsung, etc., BlackBerrys, whatever, from Verizon, AT&T, etc.).
@donv - "Tethering" means using a cell phone as a wireless modem to connect your Mac to the internet. The iPod Touch lacks a cellular radio, so tethering is moot.

  • Can't re-install Bluetooth on Windows vista 64 bit - Satellite A305

I am having a problem with my bluetooth on my new Toshiba A305-S6843 machine.
It is running Vista 64-bit version.
Previously, the machine had version 6.10.02T Build 20080128 on it, but the bluetooth radio would not enable. The device was recognized in Device Manager, but the error I would get was "Bluetooth not Ready" when I clicked on ENABLE.
So, I tried to install the latest software from your downloads page . "TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack 6.10.10(T)"
When it unpacks and starts to install. The error I get is: "The operating system is not adequate for running bluetooth stack on Toshiba" and fails.'
When I try to reinstall the older version "6.10.02T Build 20080128" - i get an error "1155" and that's it.
Now i can not reinstall any Bluetooth stack to get it working.
    Please help

You have most likely downloaded the x32 version instead of the x64 one. Download the x64 version and try again.
