Bluetooth Unavailable (possible motherboard damage?)

Hi,
A few weeks after I first got my Macbook (in around september of last year) My bluetooth module seemed to have stopped working. the icon in the top right corner has a squiggle through the logo, and says it's not available. when I go to the Bluetooth File Exchange app in the utilities, it says that it may not be connected to the computer. seeing as how it's built into it, and I have gotten it to work on a few separate occasions, I know that's not true. I don't have to use it that often, and that's why i haven't taken it in beforehand. (also, i think backing up this machine is a bit of a pain)
In any case, I heard recently that it might be a problem with the computer's motherboard. I'm wondering if this is in fact the problem, or if it's a simple error on my computer. if it is indeed a physical problem with the motherboard, i'm also wondering if it's worth it to go to the apple store for repairs immediately. I live near a store, but as gas prices are rising, and my students savings are not, it becomes more of a burden to get anything fixed there.
any clues would be appreciated,
Sam

Hello flxbbs!: Yes indeed you likely shorted out your motherboard &now face the prospect of getting a new one.
also what you can do in the future is try & wipe the keys with distilled water to get the pieces of whatever made the wine out of the next system then let it dry for a week.
as for the heating up of the palmrest that is due to the aforementioned pieces of whatever fruit leaving a sticky residue which is similar to dust.
good luck
hope this helps & enlightens you
as a fellow chiphead & owner of computers I express my deepest sympathy & condolence to your loss!

looking for possible reasons, why iphone shows "bluetooth unavailable". sometimes it jumps to "bluetooth off", sometimes to "bluetooth on" and then unsuccessfully searching other devices. iphone is very slow and touch stream reacts with delay.
Any clue, if this is a hardware or software issue? How to fix?
Reset + restore not successful. iOS 4.2.1
Have not recognized the problem under 4.0 - but not sure, if upgrade is the cause of the issue.
    Thanks for any hot tip.

I see them now. I have not encountered those problems in this forum on on my ipads.
I would try to following in this order:
    1) Press and Hold the Home and Wake Sleep buttons until the Apple Logo appears.
    2) If that doesn't work, try a reset, To reset go to Settings, General, Reset, Reset. (Is this what you did when you mentioned reset?)
    3) If neither help, try a restore with itunes/computer. This will reinstall the ipad's software.
If the problems persist, you should contact Apple or take the ipad back to the vendor.
    I hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to damage iPhone screen by pressing too hard?

I have an iPhone 5s and I take really good care of it and want it to last a long time. I have an Otter Box and a screen protector and stuff to keep it in good condition. Sometimes, if I press the screen a little bit harder than usual, I notice that it looks liquidy for a second and the colors become wavy and distorted for a moment. The condition goes away after I release the pressure. Could I be damaging the screen when this happens?

But is it possible to damage the screen by pressing too hard, regardless of whether you have a screen protector?
Absolutely. You're talking about a glass screen over sensitive electronic components. It would be rather difficult to do with a finger, though.

  • How do I solve iMac "Bluetooth: Unavailable" problem?

I have a 27-inch, Mid 2011 iMac (OS X Lion 10.7.5) which was provided with a wireless keyboard and mouse.  Afer a year of use, I started having intermittent problems with the keyboard becoming disconnected, but the problem usually solved itself after a few seconds.  Now, I am not able to use the wireless keyboard and mouse at all.  I installed new batteries in both the keyboard and mouse, however, it did not solve the problem.  The Bluetooth icon at the top right of the monitor reads "Bluetooth: Unavailable" in light gray lettering.  I am currently typing this with a wired keyboard and wired mouse.  I cannot find any solutions in the Apple Support section.  How can this problem be solved?

    Try resetting the SMC.

  • Is my motherboard damaged?

    Hello,
I have a 925XE motherboard. I'd like to know if my motherboard is damaged. I had installed a 512 DDR2 memory module in the green DIMM1 motherboard slot and it was working for months with no problems at all until the last week. The last week, I tried to start my computer like the other days and I was not able because I get a beep beep sound. I reviewed my computer and I didn't see anything wrong. I changed the position of the memory module to the orange motherboard slot (DIMM3) and the computer started. Then, I changed the memory module to the green DIMM2 slot and the motherboard didn't start. If I put the memory module in one of the two green slots, my motherboard don't start but if I put them in one of the two orange stlots, the computer works with no problems at all. Is my motherboard damaged? Can I fix this?
    Thank you very much.
    Kind regards,
    Fermigo

yo bro, hmm i have this experiences before but my mainboard is MSI 655 Max, discontinued alreadly because of some issue, try flashing the BIOS and it might help .. if the symptoms still persist, you had to go to the supplier to change.

  • WIFI & Bluetooth unavailable after upgrading 2.0

    Hi,
After upgrading to version 2.0.2 my IPhone has lost WIFI and Bluetooth. Mac addresses appears like 00:00:00:00:00:00 and the option in grey, saying "No Wi-FI" and Bluetooth unavailable.
I tried restoring to a previous version but not luck, looks like something becomes corrupt.
Is there any fix for that?
    Thanks in advance.

    Try this,
    Reset Network Settings
Choose General > Reset and tap Reset Network Settings.
    Or do a phone reset
Or return it to apple like this guy on http://gabriel.zeropeople.com/2008/08/15/iphone-wifibluetooth-problems/

  • PDA Bluetooth keyboard: possible to get it to work with Arch?

    Hello there,
I have an old Bluetooth keyboard that was originally intended to be used for one of those Palm PDAs that came out like six or eight years ago. I successfully paired this device with my Laptop (Thinkpad X60t). However, the only service exhibited by this device is "SPP slave". The keyboard doesn't identify as a HID, as it seems. I don't know the exact model; it's one of those foldable models by GeneralKeys.
Using sudo cat /dev/rfcomm0, I can verify that key presses on the keyboard actually reach my laptop. However it's all gibberish, e.g. pressing the sequence hjkl<enter> results in the string (g)h*i+j.m being output. Is there any way to somehow to convert/attach this device's output so that I can use the keyboard as a proper HID?

Natanji wrote:...Is there any way to somehow to convert/attach this device's output so that I can use the keyboard as a proper HID?
I am not familiar with the device, but from your description, I would say it is unlikely.  Your device appears to be using an SPP (Serial Port Protocol); It is much simpler than a HID implementation.
You might look to see if the system creates an event interface in /dev/input when you associate the keyboard.  If so, it may be possible to do something with evdev.
I cannot offer any suggestions, except that it would make an interesting project.

  • Bluetooth unavailable/not recognizing hardware

I've posted time and again and no one seems to have an answer. My iMac (10.2.8) has a BT module from Dlink plugged into the USB. Without any prior problem. BT is now unavailable. Profiler shows the BT module but utilities says there isn't any hardware. I contacted Dlink and they suggest a firmware download from Apple but I can't find any.
Is there something I can download which might correct the problem? I did the pram reset thing but that did nothing. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be? Will upgrading to Tiger or Leopard fix this? Very frustrating.
    Thanks

I have the same problem with my bluetooth keyboard. From my reading here & elsewhere I understand this may be:
    - A design issue - mini's run too hot for bluetooth to function properly
    - A build quality issue - soemtimes the bluetooth connector is not properly seated
    - An implementation issue - apparently the antennae cable is frequently laid across the USB bus/ports and this can cause interference.
NONE of this information comes directly from Apple and I understand popping open the case to investigate will invalidate my warrantee. Screw this - I'm going back to using PC's. Seriously gentlemen; I have tried very hard to like Macs; but they're just built badly and the after sales support is an insult. Apple deserves the fate it would already have suffered were it not Microsoft propping it up to avoid an anti-trust action. If you continue to use this garbage you have only yourselves to blame. Sell your junk to some sucker on eBay & buy a Dell.

I have the same problem. Freakin annoying. I attempt to select an AirPlay device and it deselects it with no error or indication why. One thing I hate about Macs, always hide things from you.
When I restart my computer all works again.
Airplay from iTunes does work however. Must be a sound card driver issue or something.

  • Bluetooth unavailable/blued issues

My bluetooth has been giving me issues for a couple of days now. It all started after I was forced to power down my computer because it froze immediately after waking up.
After the initial restart, bluetooth became unavailable. However, I'm not getting the squiggly line through the icon at the top. Instead, it looks like this. I have a Magic Mouse, so obviously not being able to use bluetooth is bugging me. What's odd is that if I go through Bluetooth File Exchange, I can usually get it working, but aside from that, no luck.
BUT. This isn't what is bothering me the most. Ever since this started happening, my computer's fans start running about five minutes after start up, and usually stay at about 6000-6200rpm while the computer is on, regardless of what I am doing. Also, the CPU temp has been around 80-84 degrees these last couple of days, even though my computer doesn't feel warm.
The reason I think this has something to do with my bluetooth is because when I opened the activity monitor, "blued" (which I googled and found out is the bluetooth daemon) is sucking up about 62% of the CPU's resources, even though my bluetooth isn't turned on. Force quitting it from the activity monitor does nothing, because it just comes back.
Other things I have tried that haven't worked:
    1. Resetting PRAM
    2. Resetting SMC
    3. Deleting preference files from library
    4. Repairing permissions from start-up disk
Does anyone have any idea why this "blued" process keeps running even though my bluetooth isn't on? And how to fix it so it doesn't consume so much of the CPU's resources/cause my fans to go wild?
Also, don't know whether this is important to know, but my macbook is three years old now, but still in good condition (I hope). Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello:
You have tried most of the things that I would have suggested:
Other things I have tried that haven't worked:
    1. Resetting PRAM
    2. Resetting SMC
    3. Deleting preference files from library
    4. Repairing permissions from start-up disk
If you have not don so, trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist).
I would also run repair disk from your software install DVD.
I would also run Apple's hardware checker from your software install DVD. If you have it, run Techtool.

  • Hp dv9000 possible motherboard failure

I have had my dv9000 for about 3 years. This problem just started yesterday. Basically, it won't start. It worked ok in the morning, then I put it to sleep to take it somewhere. However, when I tried to open it back up, nothing happened. I hit the power button and the lights came on for a second or two and the fan started up, but I heard nothing else and then everything just turned off. I have tried to hit the power button again and again, but the same thing happens, the lights come on for a second, the fan turns on for a second then it all dies. I have disconnected the battery and tried it, and have tried it on battery only, no luck either way. I have also tried to flash the ram and it has done nothing either. I originally thought it might be a hard drive failure, but then I was told that it is probably the motherboard. I don't necessairily want to go and spend the money on a new motherboard if that isn't the problem, but I'm not positive what the problem is, or if its even worth the money to try and replace it. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem.  The Laptop worked two days ago, crashed (powered off) and will not boot.  All of the blue LEDs light for 1 second when the Power Button is pressed then go out.  Unlike the original post, I do not hear any fan or any other sounds.  Local PC store told me what others have posted.  Motherboard issues like this are common on these models.  Not worth fixing.  What a waste of money.  This laptop was used in-home only as a desktop replacement.  The furthest it ever traveled was between floors.  Never dropped, never damaged in any way.  Obviously a design flaw that cost me a bunch of $.  I hope HP monitors these forums.  They can see how many devices I have personally registered in the past, not to mention the ridiculous amount of HP hardware I have also been responsible for purchasing at work.  Perhaps they can calculate just how much future business they have lost due to this cheap piece of junk.  By the way, this is the first total failure of a personal computer, (Laptop or Desktop) since my first purcahse in 1994.  Yes I have had equipment failures (Power Supply, A/C Power bricks,Laptop Screens, Audio and video cards and memory) but never a failure that would render the entire system useless and worthless.  Disgusting.
