Bluetooth wireless keyboard keeps disconnecting

Hello,
My wireless keyboard {small aluminum, no numeric pad}  keeps disconnecting after i changed the batteries yesterday - the keyboard is found and paired to my iMac, however whenever i press the Command key, it disconnects if i press the space bar it outputs a space followed by the letter 'n' {like so " n"} also i cannot use the delete key, very strange!
I have tried resetting the PRAM, disconnecting the keyboard and starting over, but still getting the same problems, any ideas on how i can fix this?
KR,
Aaron

Hello:
Try a couple of things:
1.  Reset the SMC (you already have reset the PRAM).
2.  Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and then restart.
3.  Make the KB a favorite.
If none of that helps, try removing and then replacing the batteries.
If none of that works, I would suspect a failing KB.

My Wireless Keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting and typing by it self!! any ideas?

    Hi,
Yes believe it or not my problem was caused by the keyboard being too close to the iMac display, the bluetooth was infering with the other radio signals coming from the antenna, it needs to be at least 1ft away from the display (30cm) to prevent this (this won't help those of you with small computer tables/desks)
    Hope this works for you....

My wireless keyboard keeps disconnecting for no reason.  Frustrating especially when you are going full on and nothing there.  I press the button on the side and it connects again.  Happening more frequently.  Purchased in March.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.

I just have to ask, Is the battery due to be replaced by any chance?

  • Wireless keyboard keeps disconnecting

So my family and I have a late 2009 Mac mini with a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse the mouse won't let you scroll up (it's a Magic Mouse) and won't let you do any trackpad functions. I think this is just because the Mac is so old that this is programmed out of the software (sounds like apple). Well the keyboard is realtively new 2012 or so maybe 13 but it connects to the Mac and after a few moments it types or deletes a ton of letters that I typed I spent an hour of work on an essay and the keyboard just deleted it all then it loses connection and does the same thing when it reconnects. The keyboard has 100% battery level I've changed the batteries and that didn't help I turned off the Mac that didn't help and I've try odd just having the keyboard on and that didn't do anything so it's not the blue tooth frequency. I'm wondering if this is covered under the apple care protection plan I bought for my other Mac which is notorious for breaking even though it's a Mac with retnia. So my questions are what the **** is up with the keyboard and should the mouse not be able to scroll also if this is a hardware related issue is this covered under an apple care protection plan? Thanks

Yea i tried this on my Macbook pro and it does the same thing i tried to look up the serial number but its one of those 17 digit ones that dont fit in the line, but i do think there is something wronk with the mini i will try a hardware check on it the next time to see if anything is wrong with the hardware.

  • Why does my wireless keyboard keeps disconnecting?

I have a wireless track pad and keyboard (no number pad) that I use at school. I have to use a usb bluetooth adapter because the Mac Pro the school has does not have native bluetooth. My trackpad works flawlessly but my keyboard has problems. Most of the time it can not connect at all and the few times that it has connected it disconnects very soon, even while i am in the middle of typing something. This is very annoying. I have changed the batteries with a fresh pair and still the problem persists. Please help me, this is very aggrivating.

My normal suggestion would be to make the KB a favorite, but I am not sure that would work at your school.

  • Wireless Keyboard Keeps Disconnecting From iMac

When leave my iMac overnight my keyboard disconnects alone. This didn't happen before (3 months) and now all of a sudden it's disconnecting......
Can someone help me with this?

I have been trying to get my wireless apple keyboard to connect to my MacBook (13" late 2008) for some time without success. It sometimes recognizes it, but always fails to connect. Fresh batteries don't seem to help this situation.
Can anyone out there offer a suggestion or two.
    Thanks.

  • Why wireless apple keyboard keep disconnected from mac mini?

  • Bluetooth Wireless keyboard lagging pretty badly

I have had the Bluetooth Wireless keyboard (tiny silver one) for almost a year now, and just the past couple of weeks it has started to lag on me when typing on it. I type a few letters, then have to wait for the beach ball to stop spinning before I can keep going. Back spacing (delete key) is also painfully slow. Batteries aren't the problem, four bars out of five, but changed them anyway to see if it made a difference. It didn't.
Are these keyboards really only good for a year? I'm about two weeks away from the one year point. I did have the wireless mighty mouse for many months before having to give it up due to many problems, but I just can't give up my tiny wireless keyboard! I love it too much!! Or at least, I used to love it. Now I'm just frustrated.
My iMac is also set up wirelessly, and I do have very slow back up times too. I had to give up using Time Capsule and Time Machine due to how slow they worked.
Will my slow wireless network affect the keyboard?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks in advance, Deb

    Hello deb:
The wireless network should not (IMHO) have an effect on your Bluetooth devices.
You could try resetting the PRAM and see if that helps:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I might also reset the SMC (although that might not do anything):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
For good measure, trash these two preference files (again, a shot in the dark) and restart:
com.apple.bezelservices.plist (one in home folder, one in Macintosh HD).

P.S. If that does not help, call Applecare (or go to an Apple store) with a waranty issue (before it expires).

  • Wireless mouse keeps disconnecting

My Apple wireless mouse keeps disconnecting about every third time when I put the computer to sleep and wake it up later.  I have to reboot to re-establish the bluetooth connection.  What can I do to fix this?

There has been a lot of discussion about this.  This thread has many suggestions.  https://discussions.apple.com/message/13074761?messageID=13074761#13074761
I have had this problem on an off (no pun intended) for a very long time.  Had my mouse replaced once at the Apple Store.  Contacted Apple Care about it also when it first occured.   Sometimes changing the batteries helps.  If I am using rechargeables, Energizers seem to fit best.  In one of the threads, someone showed a photo of how the battery contacts are actually different on different brands and suggested that is one reason this occurs.  I find that resetting the SMC is what eventually I have to do and that is what Apple Care suggested also.  I haven't found a permanent fix yet and I don't really expect to, but doing this does give me much longer periods of time without a recurrence.
    To reset the SMC

It is annoying.  I keep my old wired mouse close by so I can get to it quickly.

  • Since upgrading to Mavericks my wireless keyboard keeps dropping. This stops me logging in! Can I fix this, or at least show the keyboard viewer to login?

Since upgrading to Mavericks my wireless keyboard keeps dropping. This stops me logging in! And I find I cannot reconnect the keyboard without switching the computer off. Can I fix this, or at least show the keyboard viewer to login with instead?

    This is getting annoying!
The computer goes to sleep. I can wake it by pressing a key on the wireless keyboard. It thinks for a while. It asks me for the password. I can't enter the password because during that time the keyboard has disconnected from the computer. I have no choice but to hard restart the computer.
Any and all ideas welcome. Thanks in advance.

  • Apple Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard not Connecting to iPad

Hey, I try to connect my Apple Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard is not connecting to my iPad. I tap Bluetooth "On" and it searches for devices. Then I slide the switch on the back of my keyboard to the green light and the iPad picks it up and says "Not Paired." So I tap the keyboard and it just spins and spins and spins until the keyboard times out and powers off. Then it disappears and my iPad can't find any devices. I repeated the process several times and I got the same result.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks

I had a very similar problem, with a new model wireless keyboard. The set-up is not very intuitive (and the instructions for both the iPad and the keyboard are not particularly helpful). Here's how I got it to work:
    1. If the keyboard has already been paired with another object -- e.g., I was testing out my iMac keyboard -- you should be completely out of range of that other object (more than 30 feet away).
    2. Make sure Bluetooth on the iPad is disabled.
    3. The keyboard should not be "on" -- i.e., no solid green light.
    4. Press and hold the power button on the keyboard until you get a blinking green light. This should take just a few seconds.
    5. Turn on Bluetooth on the iPad.
    6. At this point, it should detect the keyboard and instruct you to enter a combination of keys to pair the two devices.
I found that you have to follow this sequence or it won't work. For example, if you have Bluetooth on on the iPad before holding the power button on the keyboard, it won't work.
    I hope that helps.

  • My Apple Wireless Keyboard keeps typing the letter x.

The wireless keyboard keeps on typing the letter x, so I tried to switch keyboards, which fixed it. The wireless keyboard has no exterior damage, but pressing the x key does absolutely nothing. I'm wondering how I can fix this problem.

presssing the x key one and off may fix it but at the end of the day the keyboard'x swich may just be broken and may never come around

I would not waste time trying to troubleshoot the problem.  Since it is new, call Applecare with a warranty problem.  I had a similar problem with a new KB some time ago and it was replaced at no cost (shipping included).

  • Why does my wireless keyboard keep shutting off?

Why does my wireless keyboard keep shutting off?
    It is not the batteries.

More experience leads me to believe the problem is with the new iMac.  If I get the network going by turning AirPort Extreme power off, then on, I see a good signal at my iMac. Experience shows the network drops off after several hours. But yesterday I turned the iMac off, and the network remainded up (I could see it on my iPhone and iPad) throughout the night.  That's the first time that has happened since I got the new iMac.  Never had this issue with the old machine. I transferred all file to the new machine from a Time Machine backup that was up-to-date.  Am working with Apple support. They had me do a re-boot of the AirPort and will call back tomorrow AM to learn it did not solve the problem, but turning off the iMac does.  Darn.
