Bluetooth with rSAP Standard (Sim Access Profile)

Hi Folks,
is it posible to use the rSAP Protocol with OS 5.0? I have an iPhone 3GS 32 GB.

NOTE: RSAP DOES NOT ACCESS THE CONTACTS FROM YOUR SIM!!!!
It uses the contacts from your phone and then uploads them to the car kit
Here is simple breakdown of what rSAP really does (as posted by user Macca)...
rSAP basically "borrows" the IMEI number from your phone and uses it in its own built-in phone to get access to the mobile phone network using your number and contract. In the process it tells your phone to "shut up" meaning it turns the GSM/GPRS radio off.
The two big advantages of rSAP (as I see it) is the better signal strength achieved by using the vehicles antenna instead of the phones antenna and the increased battery life as your phone is not constantly hopping from cell to cell. The signal issue may not be a problem in some countries but here in the UK we have very varied terrain in a small area so holding a conversation whilst driving can be difficult.
This feature is available from most mobile phone manufacturers and mobile phone OS vendors including Google's Android.
It is a known fact that eventhough the iPhone is a fantastic phone it has one of the poorest GSM/GPRS reception especially in the UK. Us business users who spend alot of time in our cars require to use the iPhone with the best GSM/GPRS reception and hence require a feature like rSAP being made available.
If Apple are looking to penetrate the business market and try to take market share from Blackberry, Nokia and Android based phones, they need to listen to us else it will always be a sophisticated phone for the consumer market only!
Sorry - but your statement "NOTE: RSAP DOES NOT ACCESS THE CONTACTS FROM YOUR SIM!!!!" is NOT true!
While rSAP handles a SIM card inside a mobile via Bluetooth Protocol to a car built in phone it is possible to access the data on the SIM. I am dong this with my HTC mobile and an Audi built in Bluetooth Phoneunit.
At Audi since 2008 it is possible to have access to the "normal contacts" on your mobile via the Bluetooth protocol BAP or PBAP.
While Apple has only a very restricted Bluetooth Implementation - you can use your iPhone only with HFP => Hands Free Protocoll - this is the same like a Bluetooth Headset with microfone.
I think Apple will not support rSAP, because they want to keep control of hte SIM card...

  • Why does Apple not support the rSAP - Remote SIM Access Profile - for connection to car handsfree via Bluetooth

    Hello community,
I just ordered a new car and it comes with a bluetooth based handsfree installation based on rSAP (remote SIM access profile). I learned that rSAP is the ideal thing to eliminate the unwanted radiofrequency radiation (RFR) inside the car. Now while googleing I also learned that iPhone on iOS does not support rSAP.
I would like to point to the following page which shows some more detailed information on the rSAP topic:
    http://paulroberts69.wordpress.com/2011/02/28/android-2-2-and-rsap-compatibility /
I find rSAP a very usefuly thing, if it really brings the GSM radiation level down inside the car and allows the full use of all GSM functions by the rSAP premium handsfree kit built into the car. I absolutely do not understand why it is not already available with iOS.
From several web sources I understand that rSAP is available for jailbroken iPhones. That means, the chips inside the iPhone would support a rSAP service. Therefore my question: will it become available with iOS 6?
Or do all the folks at Apple drive old cars/brands and don't even think of the rSAP feature? Can we somehow start to get a hearing by the Apple developers? According to my knowledge, rSAP is implemented with all premium handsfree factory units of the VW brands - Audi, VW, Skoda ... This should make a relevant user base!
Any others with same wish and/or experiences? Comment here please!
    Regards,
    Olaf

    Hi Meg,
    could be several things:
    1. they forgot?
    2. none of their team members drives any VW branded car?
    3. nobody cares about the radiation inside the car?
    4. all have plugin holders for the iPhone?
I am just surprised that rSAP is offered by a premium car maker, but Apple seems ignorant about its support.
I am mostly concerned about the radiation when I use regular hands free. But I do understand that rSAP also has some limitations (only access to SIM contacts and other things, Wikipedia DE has a good full report, Wikipedia EN is much shorter).
    Regards,
    Olaf

  • Nokia E7 and RSAP (Remote Sim Access Protocol)

Just spoke to Nokia support in the Netherlands... Guess what?
Nokia does NOT SUPPORT RSAP on the E7-00.
So for all the owners of Volkswagen, Audi owners out there etc.... It does NOT work.
I'm stunned by this reaction of Nokia. Up until now Nokia was a strong supporter of RSAP protocol. But not anymore??
RSAP is Remote Sim Acess protocol and is used as Bluetooth add-on for Volkswagen, Audi, Skoa etc owners.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi, e7-00 works flawlessly with RSAP in my VW with premium bleutooth (it's a separate module while RNS 510 itself doesn't have any bluetooth). It works as good as with my previous N97 and N97 mini. One weird thing though. The simcard is still recognized and named as N97 by the car, the bleutoothconnection itself is connected to E7. Probably because I used the same SIM in my old phone its having that behaviour.
Have you tried to reset all Phone entries  from your carset and reconnect the phone again to fix  your addresbook issue?
    Regards,
    Wladimir

  • IPhone 2.0 Bluetooth with RSAP for VW car kit ?

Does anyone knows if this new iphone comes with RSAP in bluetooth that allows you to connect with VW PASSAT and others that only support RSAP protocol ?
Also is there any way to get iPhone to download photos from a Canon 20D ? I can get my ipod video but connecting the same cable on iphone I get a message saying it cant connect !

Restore should not be the issue here. I just upgraded to the 3G iPhone and everything worked but Bluetooth pairing. Here is the troubleshooting tip for Apple iPhone Headsets (it's probably similar if you have a non-Apple headset)
    1) Turn the headset off.
    2) Press and hold the headset button for about eight seconds, until you hear the startup tones and then five quick high beeps. The headset remains discoverable for about five minutes. The status light blinks green for as long as the headset
is discoverable. During this time, your iPhone should sense the headset—you can confirm it by going into Settings>General>Bluetooth>Then press the device name once it pops up.
    Hope that helps....

  • Does N810 support Bluetooth SAP(SIM Access Profile...

Does N810 indeed support Bluetooth SAP? If so, N810 must have its own GSM modem, does N810 have modem?

It has no GSM modem because it isn't a mobile phone. It cannot use GSM or 3G networks.
It's an internet tablet that can be used to make VoIP calls over wi-fi.
I believe it supports SAP because it can access the sim on a mobile phone thats connected via bluetooth.
You won't get a reply from a nokia engineer here as this is a user to user forum. If you want a comment from nokia you need to use the "contact us" link near the top of the page.

  • Nokia E71 Bluetooth with 2007 Audi Q7

I've been using a Windows Mobile 6.1 device prior to getting the E71. My old device connected all Bluetooth functions with my Audi (phonebook, dialed numbers, missed calls, etc.). I've paired the E71 to the Audi but it won't pull in any of the functions. Worse is that the phone won't connect automatically as it's supposed to when the car is started. I've read blogs that suggest Nokia left out some important software that's preventing the Bluetooth to work with the Audi. Any solutions?

Do you use Sim Access Profile or not?
I've found that if I use SAP (at least with my E71 and Q7), the phone has to recieve an SMS while connected to the car to be able to download the phonebook. Once the SMS is read, the phonebook-info is lost again.
If you connect the phone with SAP disabled, the car reads the phonebook without problems. If the phone is already paired with the car in SAP-mode, this profile has to be deleted in the car to be able to connect in handsfree-mode.
To beable to auto-connect the phone and car later on, you have to authorize the car in in the bluetooth settings of the phone.
Hope this can be of some help.
If anybody has other info, feel free to contribute...

  • Does iOS 5 support the Bluetooth Message Access Profile (MAP) for interacting with text messages in Ford Sync?

I'd sure love to take advantage of Ford Sync's ability to read aloud and let me interact with bluetooth text messages by voice.  I had heard rumours that iOS 5 was going to support the Bluetooth Message Access Profile (MAP) like other phone manufacturers, but in my latest update I received while testing and reading other non-Apple sites, that appears not to be the case.
Is this something I'd have to upgrade to the iPhone 4S to otherwise get?
It's not Siri I'm interested in, just this particular feature to allow the phone to interact with my vehicle.  If there's a 3rd party app out there that helps I'm open to that idea too.  Thinking about what my next smart phone's going to be with LTE, and this is weighing in on my decision, lots of enterprise users out there with Ford as their company fleet vehicle too (hint hint!).  A nice way to save lives too for those who refuse to not read/reply to texts while driving (I'm not in that club, but many are).
    Kind Regards,
    Brian

For the public record, here's the feedback I submitted based on Allan's suggestion.  Thank you both, guess I'll just cross my fingers and hope others share their feedback in a positive way to Apple too.
I'd sure love to take advantage of Ford Sync's ability to read aloud and let me interact with bluetooth text messages by voice.  However it requires phones to support the Bluetooth Message Access Profile (MAP) like Android and other phone manufacturers.
Humbly requesting this is something that gets added to a future iOS update.
It's not Siri I'm interested in, just this particular feature to allow the phone to interact with my vehicle by using the vehicles embedded voice and heads-up display commands.
    Advantages:
    (1) Gives one less reason for Apple people to stray to Google
    (2) Saves lives too for those who refuse to not read/reply to texts while driving
    (3) Keeps drivers behaving legally (outside of common sense, many provinces and states have enacted laws to try and protect people against themselves)
    (4) A critical enterprise feature if Apple is attempting to continue to break into that market, most fortune 500 companies that have employees using fleet vehicles use Ford, but frankly other manufacturers coming to market with these features too.
Thanks for consideration around this feature.  If you'd like to understand the use-case more or be pointed to threads in the discussion forum and 3rd party websites begging for this feature, happy to discuss.
    Kind Regards,
    Brian R. Kneebone

  • Users not getting same data even with same Access Profiles

    Hi All,
As part of our testing , we changed the security profiles to test different scenrios for different user roles.
Two users were given exactly same Member Access Profiles/ Task Profile/ Team and then both were able to access same BPF.
But one of them is not able to see the Transactional Data in input schedule and reports.
    Please guide with some solution.
    Regards
    Abhishek

    Hi Sorin
    1. No error message received.
    2. BPF opens up for both the users.
    3. Same Member Access Profiles for both the users.
The data is still not visible for one of the users.
Please suggest some other link to resolve it.

  • Will the iPhone 5 support BT Message Access Profile (MAP)?

Will the iPhone 5 support BT Message Access Profile (MAP)?

According to this article: http://www.macworld.com/article/1167240/ios_6_features_you_might_have_missed.htm l
It does...  I saw a photo of the relevant slide that was put up during the iOS 6 announcement, but am too lazy to look for it now.
It's possible it may not have made it into the final release. Apple never made any statements about it as far as I know beyond the slide referenced.
Near the end of the iOS portion of the keynote, Apple showed a slide listing a host of other features included in the iOS 6 update. Among those were Game Center challenges, the ability to connect Game Center friends from Facebook, VoiceOver improvements, personal dictionary in iCloud (for adding your own terms to the dictionary, which can sync between devices), and per-account signatures in Mail. Also on the list was improved privacy, which—as a new option in Settings—will let you control which apps can access which bits of personal data, like your Contacts, Calendar, or Photos. Other features on the list included autocorrection for every keyboard,Bluetooth MAP support (which is commonly used to help cars better offer hands-free communication with Bluetooth devices), kernel ASLR (which aims to make data even more impervious to snooping from malicious attackers), custom vibrations for alerts, redesigned stores (for the App and iTunes stores), IPv6 support for Wi-Fi and LTE, word highlights for speak selection, improved keyboard layouts, alarms with songs, and faster JavaScript in Safari. Apple also says iOS 6 includes a global HTTP proxy option, which would supplant the current approach, limited as it is to per-connection proxy settings."
