Blur area in iMovie 13

Hi,
Is there any way to blur an area, like a number plate for example, in iMovie 13?  I see plenty of techniques for previous versions, but failed applying these to the '13 version.
Many thanks,
c

Yes I had this problem as well, I found out that you have to Drag the clip from EVENTS into your PROJECT.
But when you do so, make sure that you drag it just over the top, not actually into the clip. The icon should then appear.
Hope this helps

  • Are the iMovie Events and iMovie Projects folders needed?

I'm using version 10.0.6 of iMovie and moved some of my projects to an external HD using File > Move Events to Library.  I noticed in my Movies folder in my home directory that the related project folders under iMovie Events and iMovie Projects weren't moved.  It seems that these are left over after upgrading iMovie and that it just uses the iMovie Library and iMovie Theater bundles.  Can the iMovie Events and iMovie Projects folders be safely deleted?

Yes they can be deleted if you have moved all the projects you want to work further on to iMovie 10, have checked that they are working OK, and are happy with switching permanently to iMovie 10.  (There's no going back).
On the other hand if you leave them you can still use the earlier version of iMovie.

  • Blur faces in iMovie 11

I have a short movie clip where I need to blur the faces of participants in a group therapy session. How can I do this in iMovie 11?

not exactly blurr,. but create a semi-transparent 'bar' in some paint-app and add as as a pic-in-pic ...
instead of a 'neutral' bar, you could work with a screen-grab of the face, as done here in my demo:
(should have blurred more in the minimized screen-shot, my son is still 'identifieable' ... )

  • I installed the latest update for photoshop CC but the new options (like spin or path blur) are still not active. What to do?

Yesterday,  installed the new updates for Photoshop CC. Photoshop tells me that it is up to date with all updates installed but still I can't use them, e.g. the blur gallery doesn't show the spin or path blur. Other new options are also not working. What should I do?

Look for Photoshop CC (2014) in your Creative Cloud application, and press the [ Update ] button next to it (which is in itself more confusing).

  • Where are your iMovie '08 creations? I would like to explore them.

I would love to see your iMovie '08 productions. I know they have them for iWeb '08 and find them educational for seeing what is possible. The only thing I would ask is that when people have used third party applications to modify the work, that they identify it so that I wouldn't be scratching my head trying to figure out how a certain terrific feature was made.
So is there any such list of iMovies '08 made by you all? I hope.

  • Distorted audio after attempt to blur area of video

I modified a video by adding a new video track (duplicated from the original track) and then using a four-point matte filter and then a gaussian blur filter on the new track. After I do this and render the video, the audio is badly distorted. Is there a reason for this? or is this a bug?

The source clip is an AVI file. And you are right that it appears that the blurred video is not the cause. It seems to happen when I play the video in the timeline. I created a new timeline and removed the blurring video track and the noise is still there. In particular there is a sharp click approximately every second. Sometimes the audio gets repeated.

  • Why are my imovie video and garageband track out of sync?

    Hi
I'm currently making a video of an original song for youtube. I've been recording the video in imovie and the audio in garageband.  I mixed down the audio in garageband and imported it to imovie. I lined up the audio with the visual at the start of the track, only to find it gradually goes out of sync with the video. I tried a different approach, syncing up the video and audio at the end of the song. I went back to the start of the song to see how in sync it was and the audio started way before I open my mouth! Unfortunately imovie did not record any sound, so I can't use the imovie sound to sync it.
I have literally no idea how the video and audio could be going out of time! I have one video and one audio track, so it's not a mix up.
It is totally bizarre and I wonder if anyone could suggest what's caused it/how to solve it.
    Thanks
    Vic

First do not use the Share ➙ iDVD menu option in iMovie.  Use the Share ➙ Media Browser.  The former loses considerable quality in the shared movie.  Drag the movie from the Media/Movies pane in iDVD into the iDVD menu window.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Did the footage come from a video camera?  If so see  Bengt Wärleby's post in this topic: video and audio out of sync when...: Apple Support Communities

  • Why are my iMovie Published Files so Huge?

I've ripped video from a home-made DVD using Handbrake. To edit it in iMovie, I've been told I have to 'import' it, and, again as I have been told, that's going to create a huge temp file with a .dv extension. After editing, I need to 'publish' or 'export' it in order to play it on my Apple TV through iTunes. But the resulting file is huge! Instead of the the approx 300 mg file I started with, my edited video is now almost 6 GIG! I've tried exporting (or publishing, whatever the right word is) to small & medium-sized files. But I only gain a little bit of space back, and the quality of the video is horrible-literally unwatchable on Apple TV. Although it has a .mov, .mp4 or .m4v extension, the difference in size between where I start and where I end up is staggering! This CAN'T be right! If it were, I'd see people screaming about it all over the net! I've tried publishing or exporting to both QuickTime Pro and iTunes. I just want to end up close to where I started in file size, not something that's 6 times larger. What am I doing wrong??

Well, what I do is use multiple large external drives. External drives are available for aorund 10 cents a gigabyte or less.
I recommend that when you import from your camera, you always create a Camera Archive from the import screen of iMovie. This makes a copy of the video exactly like it is on the camera in compressed format so you can always recreate exactly what the camera shot.
Once you import the event into iMovie, it gets 10X the size. When you finish editing the movie, you can delete the event to get back the space, but this means you will not be able to further edit or Share the project. If there is a change you will want to modify the project, you will want to keep the event intact. If you don't mind starting from scratch if you need to change the project, you can just reimport from the Carmera Archive copy to create a new event.
In FInal Cut Pro X, there are some interesting options. You can also create a camera archive. When you import into a Final Cut Pro Event, you get a folder called Original Media and a folder called Transcoded Media. Your AVCHD goes into the Original Media folder, and the ProRes 422 files go in the transcoded media folder. You can delete the contents of the transcoded media folder and just keep the original media when you are done editing the project. You can always transcode the original media again if you ever need it.

  • The insert titles are making imovie crash

i am trying to make a movie and when ever i try to put it into idvd it crashes so i deleted all the audio and it crashed then I deleted the insert titles and it didnt crash so its one or few insert titles messing it all up. is there a way to tell why they are doing it or I just dont know what to do HELP!!!!

Same here. I was working on my macbook in iMovie '09 on a project on a seagate external hard drive and the events was on the hard drive also. I've never had any problems with it crashing on me until this project and I just used it the day before. After 15 minutes into the project i try adding another title in and it just kept crashing from then on out when i try to add a title and preview the project in full screen.
To add to problem I unplugged the external hard drive (properly) and plugged it in my iMac imovie '11 and just added one title. Then I took the external hard drive back to my macbook and now the project won't even appear in imovie. And when i find the file itself in the hard drive and click to open it, it opens imovie but still no project. Somebody please help. I would greatly appreciated it.
It wouldn't be problem to work on it on my imac expect i have other people using it through out the day and my macbook is easier for me to work on where ever i'm at.

  • Where are old iMovie files that were in "Movie" favorites before I got new iMovie and Mavericks?

Just installed Mavericks and bought the new iMovie.  Looked for labled finished movies folders that I had kept in Movies on my HD favorites on OS 10.6.7, but that Fave doesnt exist in Mavs.  Where can I find the labeled folders with all their working files? Some unlabeled files do exist individually in All My Favorites but seem of little help without labels.

    I meant "All My Files"

  • Can you shuffle photos that are in iMovie

I am making a movie with a lot of animal pictures. There are sections where it gets a little boring because there are series of pictures of animals. Like there will be five or six of an elephant then five or six of a lion. So instead of going back manually and changing the order I was wondering if there was a command or action that would automatically shuffle the photos in the movie. Thank you for your help.

    Manual only, sorry.

  • Where are the iMovie media files kept?

Can I access individual iMovie media clips to copy to another hard drive?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi
    Yes and NO
    a. If You imported a say 10 minutes of movie and use 1 minute of this as a clip in TimeLine.
THERE IS ON Such clip at all. Only a reference note in Your movie project describing protocol
eg use this (10min clip) from frame 00:00:02:00 to frame 00:00:03:00 (=1min)
Ther is no such actual clip only the Non-tuched original import material
    b. To find what You imported: Find the movie project icon (with a Star on it)
[ctrl-click] on this once and a menu will fold out.
Here select "Show content of package"
Now You see a new window with a folder named "Media" and in this is Your imported material.
    c. To just get the selected material You need to export this out as a full quality QuickTime movie
Then import this into a new movie project.
Now You'll only get the clip - but You can't extend it anymore though the beginning and end
of the full (prior) material now is absent.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Why are my iMovies disappearing?

I am using iMovie in my classroom and students' projects sometimes disappear. Any idea why or how to correct it?

Just throwing this in the mix. My contacts had disappeared as well a couple of days ago. Very upsetting. I tried a couple of things with no effect. This morning I turned my 4s iphone off, turned it back on. Went to contacts and with no contacts showing as before, I decided i would try adding a new one. I created a contact by the name of test, and saved without further info added and all my contacts came back. Don't know why but that's what happened. Good luck.
P.S. Come on Apple get the fix out on this, between the music app that doesn't play and the contacts disappearing, you're freaking us out.
