Blurred Edges

Hi
Whenever I insert text or a shape into Motion 5 (5.2, but it happened in 5.1 as well), the edges look soft/blurry. When I zoom in to 400%, I can see that the edges are very pixellated. Shouldn't they be sharp whatever magnification? They're not imports from another application. I'm on a reasonably new iMac running Yosemite.
In the Render dropdown, resolution is dynamic and full, and quality is normal. Changing quality to best makes it very slightly better - but not sharp. I've tried ticking and unticking Flatten in Text Rendering, but nothing changes. Should text and shapes be totally sharp? Thanks.

You're looking for a "vignette" effect (might help in your search). I'd bet, dimes to donuts, that one of your BCC blurs has masking built-in, which would enable you to limit where the blur effect is applied within a frame.
Barring that, you could try this:
Stack another instance of your clip on top of the original.
Apply a blur of your choice to the lower clip, and set the blur to taste.
Apply the Circle effect to the upper clip. Tweak the following settings:
Set Blending Mode to "Stencil Alpha"
Increase Radius as necessary
Apply Feathering as necessary to soften the edges of the matte
Position the circle matte using the Center property
You could also use Levels, Curves, or some other CC effect on the background blurred clip to darken/lighten it, if you like.

  • Blurred edges ("dream" like video)

I'm editing a wedding video and the client wants a lot of the video to have the (somewhat) cheesy sepia tone, slo mo, blurred edges-- almost like the subject in the video is glowing... kind of reminds me of dream sequences seen on TV shows and movies. I can't figure out how to get that blurred/ dream-like look. Can anybody help?

Do a google search for free Final Cut plugins. I'm pretty sure someone has a free glow or bloom or silk stocking filter. Eurkera had one at one time. There are probably others.

  • Problem: Illustrator CS6 - print PostScript (fuzziness and blurring edges of vector objects)

    Hello,
Earlier to print to the printer Develop Ineo+ 451 used the program Illustrator CS3. In connection with the transition to Windows 7 (64bit), was bought by a new version of Illustrator CS6 64bit. Unfortunately, when printing from Illustrator CS6 (price lists, business cards, labels) on a PostScript printer were detected problems, which were not in previous versions of Illustrator CS3.
A comparison of the print quality of the two programs Adobe Illustrator CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS6, made on a PostScript
The software used on the computers:
    1st PC: Windows XP SP2 (32bit), Adobe Illustrator CS3 (32bit), the driver Generic 50C-2SeriesPS v3.0.16.0 (32bit).
    2nd PC: Windows 7 SP1 (64bit), Adobe Illustrator CS6 (64bit), the driver Generic 50C-2SeriesPS v3.0.16.0 (64bit).
    Printer: Develop Ineo+ 451 (PostScript).
Drivers are available for download on the site www.chansi.ru
    link http://download6.konicaminolta.eu/develop/public/&&BDV&RU&sw&&&&&0&&&0&&0&&0
(to choose Product Ineo + 452, for download tested version of the printer driver).
Because after using the new version of the driver, the print quality was not satisfactory, then for the correctness of the comparison experiment, already used driver version 50C-2SeriesPS v3.0.16.0 has been selected.
When you print from the program Adobe Illustrator CS6, a printer PostScript, you can see fuzziness and blurring edges of vector objects, small text becomes fuzzy and difficult to read. If you print from a program Adobe Illustrator CS3 (using the same version of the driver), there are not such problems and the print quality is quite satisfactory.
The settings in the dialog box "Print" of Adobe Illustrator and the print settings in the dialog boxes of the PostScript printer driver of Develop Ineo+ 451, were chosen exactly the same for both versions of the programs Adobe Illustrator CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS6 on both operating systems!!!

What's the explanation for the following sequence?
    1. Paste as Smart Object, at moment after pasting and before clicking the commit icon (no transform was made) in options bar. The object is rendered pixel-perfect.
    2. After the commit. The object is poorly rendered with gray pixels which should be white.
    3. Press Cmd+T for transform mode. The object is rendered pixel-perfect again.
    4. After canceling transform mode, the object is poorly rendered again.

  • Blur edges in stacked image output file

    Hi,
I'm using the auto align and auto blend feature to stacked images for increased DOF. My source files are clean no ghosting, blur or what ever. After I run the files through the auto align and then auto blend  I flatten  the stack of layers. The final output file has blurring around the edges. I use the blended output files for creating panorama's. Notice the two bands of blur
Does anyone know how to eliminate the blurred boarders in the out files or a btter way to get the result I'm looking for?
    thanks

That's a lot of conversions. On top of that, iDVD takes your MP4 and makes an MPEG2. So you have a VHS file that was transfered to DVD (VOB file)? Then from DVD to MP4, from MP4 to MPEG2. Each conversion loosed something. On top of the Long GOP compression (DVD, MP4, MPEG2) means most frame information is thrown away. Long GOP looks at one frame (I-Frame) then records only the motion difference between that I-Frame and the next 14 frames (or so). So fast motion is difficult for any MPEG encoder, including iDVD. For more info on long GOP on a DVD:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-2
To improve the quality, I would try to go back to the original VHS material and import that as a DV file, NOT a VOB or otherwise compressed file. VHS to DV. After that, I would then split the 95-minute program into two movies for two DVDs. Getting the content under 60-minutes will allow for a higher bit rate on the DVD. And the only way to improve motion scenes is to use a higher bit rate (and less conversions!).

  • How to blur edges of clusters, tabs

I need to put Tabs, Clusters display in my interface.
However, the edges of each control/indicates make the interface look busy, I would like to hide/blur out the edges,to make all controls/indicates look like in the same flat surface.
    Your response is highly appreciated.

First use Classic Controls, then pickup "transparent color" for both fore- and background colors to dye the control edges and panels. It works fine in my Labview.

  • Drawing API - Blurred Edges

    Hey there,
How come any time I use the drawing API in AS3, or FXG in MXML, certain Paths or shapes, do NOT look crisp. They are clearly blurred on some of their edges.
Straight Rect shapes do not have this problem, but when drawing a custom shape, the edges of the fill are always blurred.
Anyone know of a way to have it look clean?

I have tried both your suggestions.
I confirmed that in one case, all the points land on an integer, and then confirmed a second case where they landed on (interger + .5)...both have the same blurry issues.
This is something I've noticed for a long time with the drawing API, but am just tired of having to come up with excuses to tell designers why Flash is drawing blurry vector shapes.
There has got to be an answer for this.

  • Cropping a photo as a circle with blurred edges

Help!! I should know how to do this - in fact there used to a
tutorial with it in I'm sure!! Can't find it though.
I am trying to take a photo, crop it so that it is circular
and blur the edges so I can insert in into a web page later using
Dreamweaver. At the moment the target page is white, but I would
like to be able to do this blurring into any baclground colour.
I'm sure I have done it before (Maybe in Fireworks 4 - I am
now using Fireworks MX) but I can't remember how - I can crop the
picture by drawing a circle and using "paste inside" but I can't
get the circle to detach from the "hidden" full picture and can't
remember how to blur the edges.

Draw an ellipse on top of the photo and fill it with white.
    Change the
edge property of the ellipse from Antialiased to Feather.
    Select both
the image and the ellipse and choose Modify > Mask >
    Group as Mask. You
will be able to adjust the fade off at the edge by adjusting
    the feather
    amount.
The only way to export the image to fade into any background
    is to
export it in 32-bit PNG format. Unfortunately, it will not
    display
properly in Internet Explorer without first applying some
    proprietary
markup called the Alpha Image Loader Filter. You can learn
    more about
    that here:
    http://www.playingwithfire.com/test/pngbehavior/demo.html
Another option is to export it in SWF format and apply wmode
    transparency.

  • Cs4 Exporting Flash to Premiere Pro has blurred edges on objects

hi!  I'm trying to take a simple flash animation (with vector shapes drawn in illustrator) and put it in Premiere Pro with some music.   I want to make a DVD of several clips of different kinds.  The problem is when I import the SWF (24fps) and export it as an AVI, it looks terrible.  The mpeg2 doesn't have the mismatched/blurred pixelated edges, but it is all poor quality.  How can I do this with the best quality possible for DVD?  (I can't get a quicktime player for some reason either) HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLP!!
    Thanks a million ya'll!!
    <3 Suzy

The swf is 1920 x 1080 and looks perfect when played in Flash Player.  It looks good in PremPro, but not after it's exported through the render queue  in any format it seems.
I tried to use the same size sequence settings, and I also tried to resize it (scale) to 720 x 480 in PremPro.  I also tried varying ther frame rate (orig Flash is 24)  but i tried 29.97 then 24.  No luck!
I cannot figure out how to export an flv from Flash.   When I File>Export I get avi, swf, mov, and a few others but not flv.  I'm googling like craazy, but it's so much more helpful to talk to someone.  Thanks for trying to help me.

  • Blurring edges of .JPG image ?

How do I take .JPG photo image mask it, and blur the edges?
It is a rectangular photographic image that I want to create
a central oval in focus, and "ovalize" the
rest of the rectangle outside central focused picture, and
blur the outer band of the rectangle.
    I'm a newbie if you couldn't tell.
    Fred Z.

There are a bunch of ways you could do this in Fireworks, but
I think the easiest and most flexible would be to use a vector
ellipse, with a feathered edge, as a mask on the bitmap.
    1) Open the JPG in Fireworks
    2) Use the Ellipse tool to draw an ellipse inside your image.
Keep ellipse small enough so that the edge of the ellipse is far
enough away from the edge of the image for the feathering.
    3) In the properties panel, make sure the ellipse is white
    4) In the properties panel, look for the "Edge" dropdown and
    change it to "Feather"
    5) You can set the Feather amount.
    6) Select both objects (the original bitmap image, and the
vector ellipse) and choose Modify > Mask > Group as Mask
At this point you should have a nice feathered, elliptical
mask to your original image. You can change the background color to
match your website background color (select nothing, then look in
the Properties panel to choose background color).
If you find that the ellipse is not quite the right size,
position, or feather, you can continue to edit it. Look in the
Layers panel, and click on the mask thumbnail (it will be the
thumbnail on the right of the two thumbnails which appear "linked"
together). Once selected, you can change the feather. If you want
to move or scale the ellipse without moving/scaling the image, you
must "unlink" the mask -- simply click that little chain link icon
between the mask thumbnail and the image thumbnail in the layers
panel. Once unlinked, you can click on the mask thumbnail and
    move/scale without moving/scaling the image.
    Hope that does the trick!

  • How do I take away the blur edges of my interlaced film?

By mistake I set my camera so that it recorded interlaced. When I view the film in Final Cut pro x, it looks fine. But when I create masterfile or use share, the film has rugged/lined edges in the image whenever the person in the film moves. I need to get the interlace off, but don´t know how to do it. Can anyone help? What functio do I use? Is there any workaround?
    Regards

If you share as Apple Devices 1080p or 720p or whatever size you have shot, the video will be exported as progressive.
Ideally you should use a preset from Compressor.

  • Illustrator blurred edges ?

above image clears what is the problem !
when u draws rectangle in illustrator, it's edges doesen't looks same at all times ? look first rectangle (bad) . . .
The problem isn't appears in photoshop but in illustrator it does.
In photoshop, edges looks always good as second rectangle (good).
how to solve this blurry rectangle ?
    Message was edited by: xide.alcatraz

    xide.alcatraz,
The good happens when your edges coincide with the borders between pixels, and the bad happens when they are within pixels. The latter is the effect of Illy trying to colour the pixels in question as a weighed average of the two colours meeting in them.
You may use Align to Pixel Grid, which is otherwise often a nuisance, or just make sure that your horizontal/vertical edges coincide with the borders, in other words have integer point/pixel values on your Artboard.
Illy sees pixels as identical to points = 1/72 inch, by the way.
From CS5 on, Align to Pixel Grid is the default for certain document types for web and the like.
You may tick/untick it for the selected object and for new objects in the Transform panel options, and you may use it, or not use it, as the default for certain document types.

  • Blur background layer without creating "halo" around subject

I have a picture of a baseball player with grandstands and spectators in the background. To focus attention on the subject, I want to blur and slightly darken everything but the player (subject).
So I duplicated the background layer and created a mask over the player. Then I selected the background layer, added lens blur, and darkened it.
The problem is that this step blurs the image of the subject in the background, causing it to extend out beyond the masked image of the subject on the foreground layer, creating a ghostly "halo" effect.
I've tried creating an inverted mask on the background layer, but that doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Photoshop PS6, Windows 7

Chris, I may not be following you. Top layer is masked player (if I turn off all other layers, all I see is the player). Bottom layer is blurred layer. Player on top layer is in focus, and bottom layer is blurred, BUT ... the image of the player on the bottom layer is blurred along with the rest of the image on that bottom layer, and blurred edges of the player extend out beyond the mask on the top layer to create the "halo."
Inverse of that mask on top layer => player blurred and everything else sharp. What am I missing?
Maybe I'm using the terminology wrong ... if all other layers are turned off and the only thing remaining is the player, I referred to that as the "mask." Should I refer to the "mask" as being everything else on that layer OTHER than the player?

  • Help! Colour banding graphics problem /posterization?

    Hi.
I've been having a few problems lately with colour banding/gradients/posterization. I first noticed it 3 or 3 days ago in photoshop, and seem to have noticed it's mostly system wide. I ask her because you're all clever and I don't have a clue what to do next! So please help me!
Quoted from my thread somewhere else that I've had no luck with and was recomendded to try here...
Since yesterday whenever I'm using Photoshop and there is blurred edges/gradients etc, basically not solid colours, there is really noticeable sharp colour banding lines around it.
It's happened before and I've accidentally had it on 8-bit instead of 16-bit, but I've checked all that and it's on 16-bit.
I've googled it and the only suggestion was about duplicating the layer and blurring it then adding noise, but that didn't even work.
[EDIT] SINCE THEN I HAVE REALISED IT IS AFFECTING SYSTEM WIDE GRADIENTS AND COLOURS
My system is set to Highest 32-bit too. I changed it to 16-bit to see what happened and it made the banding 10 times worse.
    An example of the problem
Posted: Thu May 03, 2012 7:32 pm    Post subject:
It's supposed to be a smooth gradient. I didn't use the gradient tool, I used the brush tool with solid white and then smudged and blurred it like I always do.
That's a good point, and actually I did start it as an 8-bit originally (my photoshop has been starting as 8-bit, grayscale for a few weeks now and I don't know why) but then after I remembered and changed it to 16-bit, and noticed the banding, I closed that document and started a new one and changed it to 16-bit RGB when the pop-up for a new document came up.
The resolution is always 72pixels/inch, and the size 256x512, colour mode RGB.
In advanced it says colour profile Working RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1 which I have no clue what means, and I never usually click advanced so I don't know if that is usually that or different.
When I use the brush tool and blur and smudge it it's fine, with no banding. It's only when I lower the opacity of that layer, or use Hue/Saturation and Lightness to darken it so it's hardly visible that the banding appears.
I've just tried it again with a fresh new document and it's still the same. Even in 32-bit it's exactly the same.
It's done it before, and all I did was close and reopen Photoshop and it was all fine again, but this time it happened last night and since then I have restarted my computer, had it turned off for hours, and I've even tried it on gimp and it's the same.
Ruled out that it's my monitor, tried a different one that I know works perfectly and it's still the same.
I've double checked all drivers, and monitor profiles, and drivers for my monitor, and colour profiles, and colour management, my graphics card settings, device manager for problems with any hardware, and everythings coming back fine. Could it be that my graphics card is old and just needs replacing? I'm not good with which one to buy so would getting a new one the same be of any help? The computer is about 6 years old, and the only thing changed on it is the RAM and hard drive.
I don't really want to end up not using this computer anymore if it's a simple graphics card issue, I just don't know how to tell if it is.
The thread that is from is here if you want to see some suggestions I've already had.http://www.imvu.com/catalog/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpbb2&file=viewtopic.php&t=423942 &postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
My username is 'Ao'  on there so that is me explaining the problem.
    To add to that...
Here is another example of what is happening.
I'm thinking from all the answers I got from google its a graphics card problem. Only problem is all the updates are installed, and I can't find anywhere that sells my graphics card to buy a new one. So I need to know which graphics card will work with my system right now?
I've done some tests so you can see my system details. Im clueless with which one to buy so please help.

Thank you for the reply, you seem to know what you're on about.
When I go to color managment in the first tab, devices, where it says profiles associated with this device it is empty, and 'use my settings for this device' is unticked. It says device at the top and mine says 'Display: Generic Pnp Monitor - Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family'.
I did try to set up my monitor and had the .icc file for it in that list that pops up when I tick use my settings and click add, and I think I did set the profile to be the one for my monitor. I can't remember exactly how I did it and where I get that .icc file from, I've been through so many settings and websites trying to fix this.
It's not like I've recently changed any hardware or anything or my monitor, I was on photoshop one minute and it worked fine, then the next it just didn't. It's so strange because all I was doing at the time was using photoshop and I don't understand how it can go from working fine to all these problems with graphics and the banding. It's so confusing.
I can noticeably see banding on that image. It is still a gradient and smooth to a degree, but there is obvious lines of colour differences, and a harsher line on the outside.
Is that smooth for you? For me there is very obvious banding, especially at the top on the white on black.
I just don't know what else to do. I've tried everything I can think of, and spent hours upon hours on google. I've even tried a system restore to put it back to how it was when it was working perfectly, but it's still the same. I tried it on another monitor, just plug and play, and it was the same. Is there an easy way to install a monitor properly so that it should in theory work perfect? Because you're talking about the monitor profile, but with the second one I tried to test it all I did was plug it in and it was still the same. I've even tried it on my tv, and as I remember I think it was less noticeable, but then again that might be because of my tv settings because my tv is quite dark.
Just clueless as to what else to do now. I don't want to go out and buy a new computer for £100's over this, as I don't really have the funds to do so but I need a computer so the only option would be to sell my new iphone that I only got last week! Which I obviously don't want to do. That's how desperate I am to fix this though.

  • How do I get a solid color border?

I have made a seperate layer for a border.  When I fill it with a color, it has blurred edges and is not a solid color.  I have checked the opacity settings and they are at 100%.  What am I doing wrong?

If you have several layers, combine the layers. To do that, open a blank layer at the top of the stack, and press CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+E
    Go to Select>all
Open a blank layer above the layer created in step #1
Go to Edit>Stroke(outline)selection. Select color, width, and position inside
