Blurred image when picking highest available resolution

Hi all,
I do apologize if this issue was discussed somewhere else on this forum - I could not find any related post so I decided to start this topic.
A few words of introduction - I am using 27'' dell ultra-sharp (U2711) with my old nvidia GeForce GTX 570. Everything works fine when I connect both devices directly (DVI). I used to work on 2560x1440 resolution.
I am using the same screen to connect my business laptop where I run win7 and I do that through HDMI.
I was finding it a bit frustrating to have to switch input source on screen and switch keyboards every time I wanted to do some work on the other machine so I got nice 4 ports StarView KVM.
First I connected laptop - this time I docked it and used DVI lead. Everything worked fine, win7 detected correct screen resolution and picture is nice and sharp.
The problem is that when I connected my Arch box I get blurry picture when running on usual resolution. I have to drop down to 1680x1050 in order to be able to read or use my computer at all.
First I thought there might be some problem with X suddenly not detecting my screen correctly but there is no complaint in xorg log.
Then I thought that maybe DVI leads I use got broken - so I brought new cables and problem is still there.
I also was trying to use second DVI input rather than first one - no joy.
This is how picture looks like when I set 2560x1440 resolution:
flickr - high resolution
And this is how picture looks like when I set 1680x1050 resolution:
flickr - low resolution
Guys, I know this seems to be somewhat non-standard issue but maybe you can point me out to the right direction?

Welcome to the forums!
How are you copying a section of the file? When you say you "copy" from the PDFs, does that mean that you are not inserting the entire original PDF file? If you insert the entire file (or simply drag it onto the page), the quality will be preserved. However, most ways of copying a portion of a PDF involve making a low-resolution (rasterized) version of the copied portion.
If you only want a small section of the PDF, one way around this problem is to open the original PDF in Preview, then use the Select tool to select the area you want, and then choose Crop from the Tools menu, and do a Save As of the resulting file. This procedure will preserve the quality of the PDF, and just create a new PDF file. You should be able to drag this new file into Pages without a loss of quality.
The better way, however, may be to simply use Pages' Mask with Shape functionality. Insert (or drag) the original PDF into Pages. Then create a new shape on top of the PDF image, sizing and placing it where you want the visible section to be. Then, select both the shape and the PDF, and from the Format menu choose Mask with Shape. The part of the PDF outside of the shape will be "masked" or hidden, and the quality should be preserved. Also, an advantage of this method is that you can go back and edit the mask to show more or less of the PDF (and even have non-rectangular masks, if you like).

  • Photoshop blurs image when opening jpeg from Nikon

    Hi
My photoshop in CS6 blurs an image when opening a Jpeg this only happens on my own devices, so for example if the photo is taken on nikon DSLR, ipad or iphone. any other image, i.e. stock and downloaded and its fine.
I just cant figure out what the problem is, but essentially all my photos are uneditable because of the blurring. can any help?
    Many thanks

If OpenGL drawing is disabled, then the video driver isn't too likely.  Most of the problems in drivers show up with OpenGL drawing enabled.
But printer drivers and fonts can sometimes cause issues.
And there's always a chance that the video driver is failing at something simple (like drawing a menu or cursor).

  • My iPhone 5 camera gives a blurred image when taking photos with the device, how can i fix that

i have had my iPhone 5 for almost a year now and have been suffering from this problem for quiet a while now, when taking pictures with my iPhone 5 the result is a blurred image, i dont know why the focus of the image is so bad !

MAke sure teh problem is not do to camera shake by holding it firmly on a solid surface and taking a picture of something in the 10-20 foot range.  If that rules out shake, and the image is blurred, take the iPhone to an Apple store genius bar and have it examined.  Backup all of your content in iCloud in case the verdict is a replaement iPhone, they can resore your content from an iCloud backup.

  • Blurred images when using photoshop to edit I-photo

    Hi
I set my iphoto up so photoshop is the editor of choice. but whenever i go to edit an image, even with it being crystal clear, it blurs when opened in photoshop.
I cannot find this problem online at all, can anyone help?

But what size are you setting them at?
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
If you're using Raw then in the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you *must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file*.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.

  • Getting blurred image when opening adobe

I've got the latest version of adobe installed in my windows 8 pc and it was working fine but from last few days when I am opening something the image is appearing blurred. Kindly advise some solution. Thanks

We suspect this is a graphics card issue but hard to say for sure. Try rebooting and let us know if it persists.

  • I've noticed on my new ipad 4 that many images when on the Internet are blurred and low resolution why is this? Because if you go on apples website everything is crystal clear????

When using my new ipad 4 retina display when on the Internet many of the images are blurry or low resolution? But if you go on apples website everything is crystal clear?? Why is this?

Ebay images look fine on mine. Image zoom doesn't work, but that's not suprising. I also support a number of public and private websites wth a number of images (some pretty large). Those look fine as well. If the Apple website looks good, there is no raeson other sites shouldn't as well.
For eBay specifically, I'd recommend using its app, but in general, you could try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

  • Blurred preview image when dragging playhead in Animation Timeline

    Hi,
when I move the playhead (of the Animation Timeline) by hand back and forth, the image get's blurred untill I stop dragging. This is really annoying since I need to draw and animate some small shapes in pixel perfect manner and can't see the difference between the frames because of the blurred image.
It is not blurred when I use the "Go to Next Frame" buttons in the timeline window, but this is cumbersome as I have to quickly compare frames by going back and forth.
I understand that PS probably gives me a compressed version of the images so it can actually play the animation fast, but I am talking about a hand full of frames in low resolution (1000x1000) on a Macbook Pro Retina with 16 GB RAM!
My Performance setting are all up (90% RAM allocated to PS, enough free space on my SSD Hard Drive). I also tried different settings for the History and Cache.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!
    Marek

OK, I found out the reason I wasn't hearing the sound when dragging the playhead was due to the fact that in the properties for the sound I had the Sync set
to Event, but I needed to set it to Stream.  Then it works fine!

  • On right mouse click, there is no "save as" or "copy image" when I want to save a pictureon line. I have to go back to IE to access this option. Is this not available? Many thanks, Joy

On right mouse click, there is no "save as" or "copy image" when I want to save a picture on line. I have to go back to IE to use this option. Is this not available? Many thanks, Joy
There are so many occasions on line when I want to save an image that I can't believe I can't do so using Firefox, which I find so good in all other ways. I can Bookmark, save a page or send a link, but not take a simple copy image.

Hi, Many thanks for replying, it's much appreciated. I started Firefox in safe mode and found I had the full right click menu on a pic on my home page. However, after moving around the web, I've found that the problem still occurs in eBay and it doesn't make any difference in safe mode. still no full menu. After returning to normal mode, I find that this still stands i.e. I do get the full menu on other sites but not in eBay. As I often want to save a pic in Ebay and can do so in IE, I'm baffled as to why this one site is giving problems. As this is where I've mostly been trying to save pics, I didn't realise that it was a "one site" problem and not applicable to everywhere else. If IE didn't work in this respect, I could blame the eBay site, but it does, so that just makes it more puzzling - and very annoying! I have tried accessing Ebay direct, rather than clicking on the toolbar, but this makes no difference. Any further thoughts would be much appreciated. Joy

  • I get resolution warnings when I know the resolution and image size exceed

I am using images that exceed the required resolution (300 dpi) for the size used (8 1/2" x 11"). Mostly these are on full page images. anyone run into these problems?

Error -36 is I/O error, w/o specifying if the error is in the source or the target.
So, first of all, verify your disk(s) with Disk Utility, just to make sure there's no problem there.
If there isn't, then there's a problem with the download. Consult "EVE online" (whatever that might be) tech support and user forums.

  • Blurred Images in ePub export to Kindle.

Blurred Images in ePub export to Kindle.
I am using InDesign to create the ePub. My images are stock charts. All charts are high resolution in InDesign. No issues with images in InDesign. When I view the ePub in Adobe Digital Edition and in Kindle Previewer the images are blurred as if they lost the high resolution setting.
The images are all jpeg. This is book 1 of 25 books with 34 chart images per book. Any ideas on a solution is appreciated.

Your confusion seems to lay with the "Display Performance" in InDesign.
InDesign's display performance is only important to InDesign.
When you place a file into InDesign it doesn't place the actual image. It creates a proxy (thumbnail) of the image to be viewed in the layout only.
InDesign links to files - to see the true resolution of an image you need to go the Window>Info and select the image and the information is visible in the Info panel.
InDesign comes with 3 flavours of preview of the thumbnails it creates, Fast, Typical and High - these 3 viewing settings are only to give you a flavour, Fast shows you a gray box and there's an image there, Typical shows a lo-res proxy, and High shows a high quality thumbnail version of your image.
These are not reflective of the true quality of the images.
All your images are PNG which are perfectly fine to place in InDesign - you are actually losing quality in your images by converting everything to JPEG - as JPEG is a lossy file format - where as PNG is lossless.
JPEG is much better for photographs (actual photos with lots of colour information)
PNG is much better for solid blocks of colour and for Charts, Diagrams, line Drawings, Screenshots - PNG is preferred over JPEG.
But all this changing to High Resolution in InDesign before Output does nothing reflective in the Output.
The true quality of your images lies in the Information within the file - which is visible on Window>Info

  • Why do I get two images when importing from i-photo into aperture

    Guys
I am a new convert to Mac's and am a keen amateur photographer ,I have transfered my photo library from my old pc into i-photo initially which worked fine and for my photo editing package I have loaded up aperture 3.When I transfer RAW photos from I-photo library into Aperture I end up with two raw images of the same photo one is called 'i-photo original raw' and the other ' i-photo edited raw ' I think I am probably missing a trick somewhere but am worried I will rapidly fill up file space with all these raw images.

When you import a Raw to iPhoto it automatically makes a jpeg Preview of the shot. Why? Because you can't do anything with Raw - can't print it, share it online, use it in other apps etc. So to allow you to use the file immediately the Preview is available. That's the second file you're getting.
You're not trying to use iPhoto and Aperture together are you? It's a waste of time and a cause of some frustration. Aperture is a complete replacement for iphoto, and you're really better off picking one horse to ride and forget about the other. Like iphoto, Aperture is a Photo Manager and post processor - but rather more powerful. Both apps are database driven. Aperture is not an "editing package".
If you do opt to stay with iPhoto then use an editor like Photoshop, Elements, Acorn, Pixelmator etc as your editng package.
    Regards
    TD

  • How can I improve quality of image when burning a movie to a DVD

How can I improve quality of image when burning a movie to a DVD?

What resolution are you using?  If the DVD is to be playable on an ordinary DVD player, only ordinary TV resolution is supported.  You need Blue ray for HD.

  • Why do all my pictures transfer to my macbook with only 72 res. when the pixel availability on i phone is high?

Why do all my pictures from my i phone transfer to my macbook with only 72 resolution when the pixel availability is high?

The iPhone 4 has a 5 megapixel rear facing camera; the iPhone 3 has a 3 megapixel camera.  Your example shows a pixel density of 2.5 megapixels (1322 X 1866 = 2,466,852).  If this was from the iPhone 3 it's not that far out of line, especially if it was "optimized" during transfer.  You can still use Photoshop to increase the dpi above 72.  Just resize the picture to 260 dpi without resampling.  The physical size of the photo will shrink but it will produce photo quality prints.  If they aren't clear, that's probably a focus/lighting issue.
