Blurring out a piece of video

I've got a phone number in a piece of video that I want to eliminate. Unfortunately, the number is in a place that can't be cropped out. Is there any mechanism in FCP 7 where I can blur out the phone number without compromising the rest of the video?
Much appreciated.

I totally agree, not only that, it is also a very versatile plugin that can be used for several purposes.
BTW. Here is [the link|http://web.mac.com/andymees/Freeand_Easy/main/Entries/2008/3/19_Andy’s_Region_Blur3.html] for the OP.
However, it is good for the OP to be given the opportunity to read about available options and find out by herself what suits her best.

I am new to video editing and I am using iMovie '06. I have imported a video I shot that I want to upload to my You Tube and my web site, but I need to blur out someone's face for their privacy (I don't have a signed release from them.)
Is there a way to do this? If so, can someone explain it, or point me to a tutorial? I've done some digging online and in this forum, but I can't seem to find the information I need.

    easy...
    .. but you need a plug-in, e.g.
    Geethree's *Slick 6*
    http://www.geethree.com/slick/galleries/d_v6.html
it allows keyframing, so, the 'blurr' can move with your 'hidden' object ...

  • How can I create blurred out sidebars in non-widescreen video with Adobe Premier?

How, in Adobe Premier, can you make video which is shot in non-widescreen appear as widescreen with the blurred out side bars.
An example is this video at 0:28 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7goDFFN-6J8&feature=player_embedded#at=28

Duplicate the layer. Scale up the underlying layer and apply a blur effect to it.
Since you're new to Premiere Pro, I suggest that you start here.

How can I just add a subtitle to the video near the middle bottom of the video so it obscured the plate?
    Whew~!

After you've added the new track (text or image) you can adjust its dimensions and "offset".
Default offset value is 0,0 (upper left corner). You can change these values in the Movie Properties window.
Open the file and then open the Movie properties window. Single click on the video track and you'll notice the tabs in the lower half of the window will change names. Click the "Visual Settings" tab and enter new values for the dimensions (if needed) and the offset to position the new track where you want it.

That's a great detailed explanation of the Composite Mode method, Patrick. I just had a demo of the BCC4 method this morning, and if your scene is simple enough, it is a fabulous way to do this in one video track. However, if you have competing motion from other objects in the scene, it can get confused, and give you jerky movement. That's the downside to Optical Flow.
I like using one of the Garbage Matte filters on the duplicated clip in V2, because it gives me the flexibility to vary the matte shape with keyframes when needed. Plus, you can usually playback in Unlimited RT without a render.
But the Composite Mode method is powerful, and easy to use. It should be in every editor's bag of tricks.

  • Blurring out Objects with shaky camera!

I am trying to blur out some logos on some Private Jets to keep the owners of the jets confidential. The video is not the most stable video, I have already watched some tutorials on how to do this. But I am running into a problem..
I track the motion, and move the track motion boxes over the logo, and then link it to an adjustment layer.. The problem is the tracking will not stay focused on the logo, when the camera moves the blur moves off the logo, how can I keep the blur stationary on the logo even when the camera is moving?
I hope I explained this well, any question that would help you help me, let me know :). Thank your very much!

Can you reset Tracking Targets at the points it loses them?
You can widen the Tracking Window maybe.
You may even find that a Tracking Mask in PPRo with its more generalised tracking approach  may do the job

  • Navigation blurs out/in background images

Hi... At the risk of embarrassing myself, I'm adding my first post to this forum. Sorry, I'm a bit of a novice and what started out to be a simple background transition is proving to be a little harder than I first thought it would be. My problem is this:
I have a simple single main timeline for the website with 6 navigation buttons. Each button sending the playhead to a label keyframe (the site has 6 'pages'). I converted 6 photos to movie clips and added one to each of the 6 labels as a full page background. To each movieclip photo, I have added a fade in blur using one of the FLASHeff effects so when a nav button is clicked, the background fades/blurs in, I have given each background 20 frames to allow the blur to fully complete.
Now all that works as expected... but now the fun begins... what I would like to do is that when a navigation button is clicked, whichever of the 6 backgrounds is currently showing will fade/blur out first before the new background photo fades in. I could do this with 36 (the total combination of transitions with 6 photos and 6 buttons). A bit of an ugly solution!
Here is the code I have for the buttons:
    teamBt.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouseTeamHandler);
    function mouseTeamHandler(event:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndPlay("team");
My question is: Is there a more elegant and dare I say, sexy actionscript 3 way to do all this and hopfully still be able to use flasheff for the blur effect?
I had better get up to speed using actionscript 3 to save myself further forum embarrassment.
    Thanks in advance
    Paul

    Hi Craig
You are right, I had just pasted the code into the form. I've now selected the Insert/Syntax Highlighting/Plain button in the toolbar to paste in my code. As you can see, I've been beavering away with actionscript 3 with a little help from Greensock's TweenLight and TweenMax. Thanks so much for your advice on creating a tidier code. I was looking for just that as the lenght of my script is growing by the hour.
I'll put a link to the website but it's still very much a work in progress (have to DNS point the domain name to the hosting server soon). The timeline is still only one frame long. Wondering if that's the right way to go... all code on the first frame (some other code on other layers). I've checked the Bandwidth Profiler and that just sits solid at 1024 KB. If wondering about the video, I have used SlideShow Pro and thier Director so that my client can add videos through his browser. The current videos are just very short tests.
    http://77.72.0.130/~everscom/test_5.html
Thanks again Craig. I'll take a closer look at your code suggestions.

  • Blur out an object

    Hello,
Is there any way using imove 09 to blur out on object in the video. I know you can crop the video but I need to know if there is any way of blurring out an object.
    Thanks,
    -Nathan

    Hi
    Not within iMovie'09
    (iMovie HD6 + Plug-ins might do it)
Plug-ins can not be used with iMovie'08 or 09
You can export out to QuickTime and here superimpose a black square over the
    sencitive area.
Else - this needs FinalCut and key-framing so that the blurr/dark area follow
    if object is moving.

  • Blurring a small area of video?

i've made a video for wider distribution, and i realized i have some footage of a copyrighted object.
is there any easy way to blur out a small area of video to remove a branded logo, like they do on tv for example when they blur out someone's face or what's on their t-shirt?
    i'm using iMovie 6.0.3

looking at other posts, would this work as the cheapest and simplest option?
    http://www.imovieplugins.com/fxhome.html
the thing that needs to be blurred/pixelated is pretty small and it moves in the clip -- i can't tell if this will work (i guess i can get the demo and give it a try for a few bucks, huh?)

  • PDF shows in safari 5.1, text is blurred out.

    Hi all,
I've been having the problem of safari not showing pdf's, this is partially solved now. But since I've followed the steps on another thread here,
I can see the pictures in a pdf, but not the text. The text seems to be blurred out as shown in the picture below :
Another awkward issue is that when I open the same pdf in Google Chrome, de pdf shows normally, but when I try to open the pdf from chrome in preview, the same blurred text appears.
    Any solutions?

Did the person that made the PDF use Word for Windows to make the PDF?* It's now possible to make PDFs directly from Word with File > Save As but one of the default options, "Bitmap text when fonts may not be embedded", makes the text (by now a graphic) unreadable in Preview or the built-in Safari view. I don't know if this is Microsoft's fault for making the bitmaps in a strange way, or Apple's fault for having a bug in Preview.
    * You could always find out by opening the PDF in Preview and doing Tools > Show Inspector

I wouldn't think so because the newer ones with Retina displays don't have an internal SuperDrive that can be replaced. Therefore the newer logic boards wouldn't have the two SATA/SATA Express connections on the logic board.
At least that was the case as of 2012. I've seen newer ones and they also don't have a SuperDrive.
