Blurry font in mail

I just switched from a 2008, 17inch MacBook Pro to a new 15inch MacBook Pro. I'm finding that while in mail, some of the fonts become blurry and bold when they are in the background (not being used). Once I click the message or highlight the text...it reverts to going back to normal. This isn't affecting my performance but is annoying. It's much better when everything is clear and crisp. Anyone have a similar problem or a recommendation on how to resolve this issue?

I'm using Lucida Grande as the mailbox font; there aren't any duplicates of it in Font Book and it doesn't show up at all in FontAgent...
It wouldn't have to be the same name, just the same internal number that OSX actually uses. Could just be the Bold or such.
I'd just for a moment try Monaco, change the Point size, see if the number changes with the size there.
found the problem, and yes it was a wrong instance of Lucida Grande
I don't know where that came from, but it seem that the default font for lucida grande had a few undesirable instances. I removed the extra in fontbook (Which were Lucida Bold and another one) And voilà. iTunes is readable again.

  • How do I change the font in mail permantly

I can change the font in mail but it isn't permanent.  I am talking about composing E-mail.

I have a work around you might try.
Add a signature to your email account with whatever font you want. Two steps...like this.
    1. Create a new email message:
    2. Add a new signature (Mail -> Preferences -> Signatures) and Paste Clip Board into the new Signature editor:
    That's All Folks!
Now, when you create new messages, you should find that the format you are looking for is already setup. All you have to do is tweak the Name,
    Hope this helps!

  • Blurry font after switching from WinXP to Win 7 (Was:Schrift im Dreamweaver CS 3  verschwommen)

<Preran> For the benefit of moderators here, I used Google to translate your content into English:
    Good day,
I have problems with blurry font in Dreamweaver CS3 after switching from Windows XP to Windows 7
I have already tried the following:
In "Edit" Preferences "change font size" - unfortunately that does not work. (which had worked fine in the previous changeover to Windows XP)
Then I got in the forum www. office-loesungen.de the tip, sometimes seen on the control panel display, which percentage is set.
When I got the set to the mean value, the writing was not so blurry, but still not really readable.
Experiments with Clear adjust TypeText were not successful.
There is a trick, so the font is larger
If I have to "small" hinders the size that was at 0.75 in the previous pages, it is readable for me, so I could enter the text and read it.
However, the text is then when uploading larger.
    What can I do now?
For speedy help I would be grateful
    Best regards
    Guten Tag,
    Renate Gundel

I've done this multiple times and it produces essentially the same message, but there is a mention that a restart is pending. This is also strange because this is definitely not the case. First time I used CScleaner it took a while and was obviously busy correcting something. However now when I select clean all, it simply dumps anopther massive log file into AppData and says cleaning completed successfully. Now I just ran it again, so would you like me to post the more recent log file?

  • Fonts in Mail

    Hi all,
Whenever I send mail and the recipient replies I notice the the font of my original email is not what it should be.
I think I've narrowed it down and this seems to only happen when the recipient is using Outlook for Windows.
Is there a way I can fix this. It's not a huge deal but I do like my email messages to look a certain way. I've tried using both Rich Text and Plain Text but get the same result.
I use a 10pt. Arial font, which is ofcourse pretty much universal so I'm not sure why Windows is changing it to a Times New Roman.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Joshua

    Hello Joshua.
Regardless the font selected for the default message font at Mail > Preferences > Fonts & Colors when using RTF for message composition with Tiger Mail, the message will be sent as Plain Text unless you select a font and size via the font panel when composing a new message which can also include changing the style for selected text - bold, underline or italics or changing the text color for all text or selected text.
Choosing RTF for message composition alone without doing anything else does not send the message in RTF which is really HTML format with Tiger Mail when implemented.

  • Microscopic fonts in Mail

    Hi all,
I have a 15" MBP i7, hi-res, non-glare screen and -- yes -- the fonts, etc., are REALLY small on, for example, Mail. Is there any way to set a default for VIEWING a larger size -- not SENDING a larger size font?
Same issue with web pages, etc,. but it's most noticeable on Mail, where the viewed fonts are literally about 1/32" tall.
    Thanks!

Hi - for some reason (only on the HiRes versions of the MacBook PRO) - the screen font is so tiny I can barley read it.. It is set at 12 point Helvetica which is perfect on my Mac Mini and other non-HiRes MacBook Pro... So I have to increase the font size to 16 point to type a message and then reduce it to 12 point again before sending it... I can't send my clients E-Mail messages in 16 point.. it looks terrible..
If I do as you say and change the message font in preferences to 16 point - that surely means the message is received in 16 point???
I'm trying to make the HiRes screen font in Mail look bigger (so I can read what I type) BUT not the font size in the message..
Does that make sense? It seems to be a problem related to the HiRes versions of the MacBook Pro...
Any help or tips greatly appreciated..

  • How do I insert a font in Mail which is not in the Pref. scroll-down menu?

How do I insert a font in Mail which is not in the Pref. scroll-down menu?
I love Palatino, I have it bot in the System fonts folder, in the home/library/fonts folder and in the computer/library/fonts folder.
Yet, It does not come out.
Something else I should be doing?

Keep in mind that if the recipient of the email doesn't have Palantino active on their computer, they're not going to see that font on their end. Their system will replace any instance of Palantino with whatever font is they have set as the default in their mail program.

  • Blurry fonts on the screen - Windows 8.1- Framemaker 12

I installed a group of adobe fonts bought in 2002 in Windows 8.1 by clicking every .PFM file and clicking on the install button. Everything seems fine. According to the Microsoft support knowledge base, the .PFM file should be in the windows-->fonts directory. And they are at the right place. Each font comes with two files with different  file extension : a .PFM and a .PFB file extension but I cannot see the .PFB files. Is it normal ?
The question : why my fonts look so blurry on the screen, I simply cannot work.
    Thank you.

As long as both the PFM and PFB files are in the same folder, they should be properly installed when you right-click on the PFM file and select the Install option. The PFM file contains the metrics for the font, while the PFB file contains the glyph outlines in a binary format.
Type 1 fonts are supported through the Windows GDI (graphics device interface). There where issues with GDI+ and the newer WPF ( Windows Presentation Foundation) used in newer applications doesn't support Type 1 fonts.
For your specific Type 1 fonts, you should switch to the TTF equivalents supplied with Windows 8.1, e.g. TimesNewRoman, Arial, Courrier New. These contain unicode encodings and have substantially more glyphs available than in the old Type 1s (which were code-page specific and restricted to 255 glyphs), i.e. time to retire the old ones.
Also, if you try an online search, you'll find that there are quite a number of issues with Win8 and fuzzy, blurry font rendering, e.g.

  • Blurry fonts in korganizer 3.5.5 [testing]

    Hello,
Since I updated KDE to 3.5.5, korganizer is acting weird. It's fonts are blurry and the start command (korganizer --import %u) doesn't work anymore, I had to change it to korganizer only. Anyone else is having these problems?
    Regards,
    Gustavo
EDIT: The blurry fonts must be caused by the new freetype.

GO to SE73 in BI system and change the system fonts it will automatically reflect in WAD.

In 10.4.5, I could read my mail.. Now I updated to 10.4.6 this mornng and my fonts in Mail are all messed up and I cannot read my incoming e-mail.
I got a program to clear my font cache and they did not work. I created a new account and logged in, fonts were fine, so I am left to assume it has to do with my user prefs in some way...
    Any advice?

anybody have this problem?? when i set lucida sans italic as my email font preference it won't italicize it. it will italicize in all areas of preference except when it comes to using it as a default font. i called support and they were stumped and suggested that i post here. help!!! :-):-)

yes, i want to see the message in that font and have the person on the other end view in that font also. you can change the message font in mail preferences. you select the font under message font and it will create all new mail messages in that font. what i find is that any font that will italicize won't do so when you create a new message. i have it set for comic sans right now and that works fine. go into mail preferences, choose message font, select lucida sans from the font list, then on the right select italics and then close and create a new message. the new message should have lucida sans italics as the message font. mine won't do that. you can select other fonts and it will work, but the italics part doesn't take........

  • Lost a font from mail

I lost Abadi Condensed Light from the fonts in Mail recently after I had to format the disk, reinstall Leopard and restore everything from a SuperDuper backup. So where can I get a free download of this font and how do you reinstall it in mail? There must be a library folder somewhere I suppose?
    thanks
    Simon
ps: why did SuperDuper not save this detail too?

I "upgraded" (down?) to Leopard last night and now I've lost my Camilia Italic font. For 13 years, every form I've ever made, every email I've written, every thing I've ever written from the beginning of my business has used the Camilia Italic font. Every form I've opened today has been changed to some large square blocked boring font. My font is no longer in Photoshop, Appleworks, my email program - I can't even find it by googling it & searching sites that show 6 million fonts. Its not in my Application Folder > Font Book or in my Library > Fonts folder.
I'm overwhelmed at the thought of having to go back 13 years and reformat everything. I backed up my entire computer (except applications) last night to both my iPod and my external hard drive. So all my forms are there - but I suppose if I tried to open them with Leopard they'll be gone. Have I been had by Apple?

  • Mac mini (2012) blurry font

I purchased my 3rd mac mini  this week; a 2012 late model. I previously owned a 2006 & 2009 model. None of my previous models had this issue. Some of the font looks incredibly blurry and gray. The mac is connected via HDMI. I've been through all the settings in display  (over scan/ smooth font) and no combination of these settings affect the blurry font display with the acception of selecting "No Overscan". Selecting "No Overscan" REDUCED the blurry font, but failed to eliminate it. Selecting "No Overscan" also had the adverse effect of expanding the display beyond the visible boundaries of my monitor so that is not an option. I've tested different HDMI cables and a completely different monitor. Nothing has solved this issue.
I am running 10.4.8. My previous macs all displayed fonts sharp and crisp. I've also read that using an HDMI / DVI adpter works in some cases. Neither of my monitors have a DVI connection....
    Any input is appreciated.

I have looked through those threads along with a few others. It appears that the best luck people have had is using a dvi / hdmi converter. However I don't believe this is possible as neither of my monitors have a dvi output. I've read that updating to 10.8.3 fixed this for a handful of users; but again, I'm running 10.8.4.
Also, I find it odd that when I turn underscan off, the visible screen expands beyond the viewing pane of my monitor. Shouldn't it fit perfectly when I have 1080P selected? Not all the font is as blurry as others. Some font is extremely blurry, and some font looks fine.
Edit: Underscan (off) would make the font "acceptable", but it just stretches the image off my monitor, so I can't disable underscan. While it would be acceptable, it still has a blur effect to some font. With underscan on, the font is horrendous. That's not an exaggeration.

  • Seeing bigger fonts in mail reply

When I open my mail application, I see everything in small fonts. I dont use a browser for gmail since its reply box is too small and causes errors for serious emailing. In the mail app, if I do cmd++++ I  see everything bigger. But when I press reply, then I am back to small fonts. If I do cmd++++ nothing happens. Then if I select everything using cmd+a, and then do cmd+++++ then the actual fonts and not the display gets bigger and the recipient gets an ugly mail with large lettering. If I do cmd+options+8, then everything becomes bigger in display but also blurry and ugly and it is not a pleasant working experience. How does one set the right defaults? Many thanks.

    Morning Gerry,
There is no one permanently on station so to speak, to answer questions immediately.   So it isn't realistic to post the same question twice in a matter of minutes.
I don't use the Lion OS so I can't be sure of the solution but you should update it to 10.7.4(or 5) if it is still available, for it may be the OS as Lion is on its last legs now.   Do you have the RAM memory to go up to Yosemite?
In any event you should check out Mail > preferences > fonts ... which may help.
