Blurry JPEGS

When I import a JPEG (graphic, digital photo, scan, etc) into FCP 5.1.2, the image appears blurry when I drop it into my timeline. It's blurry on both the computer and high resolution tv monitor. (Camera shot video is crisp.) All my timeline/render options are set to the highest quality.
I can fix the problem, and get a very sharp image (like the original), by clicking either the "Drop Shadow" or "Motion blur" checkbox -- i don't even change the default settings for them. While this fixes the problem, it does present problems if I do any animation.
Any ideas?

Welcome to the family, thanks for closing your own thread.
I still can't figure out why the 'drop shadow' and 'motion blur' checkboxes had the same sharpening effect without rendering. < </div>
They force another level of RT processing.

  • Blurry jpeg files in FCE

    I'm working on a video for school, and as a part of the intro, we have a graphic. I threw said graphic into photoshop, added some necessary credits to it, and exported as a jpeg. The graphic is 720 x 480, the same size as the (letterbox'd) DV footage.
    And yet, when I put the jpeg into the timeline, it turns blurry on me. I thought it might be scaling issues, but the jpeg is the same size as the exported file, and it looks blurry when exported, too!
    Does anyone have any idea what's going on at all?

    I tried using a png, but that didn't solve the problem either. It's really annoying as everything else looks good. I tried rendering before exporting, it didn't help.
    Is there a weird setting I'm missing, or perhaps the way that the psd file is created (I used an NTSC template) is throwing it off? Only I was having issues with a standard jpg too.... hmm...

  • Why do i get blurry jpeg with illustrator cs6?

    I compared the options with cs3, they are the same, but i have the problem only on cs6

    prossitaly,
    I thought of different resolution settings, and the 300/72 was an obvious possibility which I checked, but the size ratio of the two images 753/2066 = 1:2.744 or 0.3645:1 did not match the ratio 72/300 = 1:4.167 or 0.24:1, so the artwork must have been at different sizes.
    There are so many things on the web, and different ways may suit different folk. Obviously, it is important to know the right terms to search for.
    With regard to colours, you may start by reading this (it is written for Photoshop, but applies to Illustrator as well):
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps13_colour/ps13_1.htm
    From that, you will have a wide range of concepts to pursue further through search for the terms used.
    Wikipedia is a good place to start for a first introduction to many things, including colour and formats, and the terms can be used for searches; you may pick up more terms from more thorough treatments of the subjects.
    You may also find yourself spending a very long time here (maybe getting lost in all directions):

    Apart from that, the Helpfile itself is a major source, of both knowledge and terms.

  • JPEGS won't import

    I searched the forum but only found issues with blurry JPEGS. My JPEG file won't even import. When I go to import-file-pictures all of the JPEGS are in gray. The computer won't allow me to choose them. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    P.S. These files are taken directly from a digital camera. They were not saved in Photoshop

    Yes, they are gray out as a menu option. They are not black and white photos.
    I copied the photos to a disc and put the disc in the drive. Then I copied the photos to a folder and attempted to import that folder. No go.
    I can import the images directly from the disc but I can't eject the disc without losing the media (of course)
    I tried copying out of the bin to a folder and then ejecting the disc, but no joy
    Huh?

  • Blurry smart objects in Photoshop Save for Web jpegs

    I create graphs, etc in Illustrator, place them as Smart Objects in a master Photoshop file before outputing Save for Web jpegs to use as PowerPoint slide backgrounds. Everything created in Illustrator or Photoshop through that process (Quality 80 or 100 with any of the SfW options on or off) Save for Webs are blurry when imported (at 100%) into PowerPoint. The only way I have been able to get anything crisp in PowerPoint was saving a Photoshop pdf. However, that was only the text created in Photoshop. The Illustrator Smart Object part was still blurry. Anyone have any idea on the best process to combine Photoshop and Illustrator files into one file for import into PowerPoint as a clean, crisp background? At this point I am open to all suggestions.

    There are parts that are being added in Photoshop, hence going from Illustrator through Photoshop as a Smart Object and then onto PowerPoint. If I wasn't 5 months down the line and just nearing deadline, I would recreate everything in Illustrator. Assuming that I have to continue at this point down the Illustrator through Photoshop line of working, how do you designate pngs or jpegs to be 220ppi. Jpegs have a 1-12 quality (and 12 is still blurry).
    Note regarding PowerPoint, I embed the full-page image into the background so others that are using this can't move (by accident or on purpose) the background.

  • I am using a Mac and when I save my files as a jpeg, the files become much smaller, and consequently darker and blurrier.  What can I do to fix this?

    I am using a Mac and when I save my files as a jpeg, the files become much smaller, and consequently darker and blurrier.  What can I do to fix this?  I have tried to figure out how to chat with someone at Adobe, but they certainly don't make it easy to do.  At the moment, this program is useless to me.  Very depressing....

    Hello,
    I would like to inform you that not all the browsers and online PDF readers support copying text from a PDF. If you have opened the PDF online, please download PDF file to your computer and then open the file in Adobe Reader.
    Please share a screenshot if the issue still persists.

  • Why are my jpegs or tiffs blurry when I view Pages with Quick Look or in Google Docs?

    Hi,
    I exported high-res images from Photoshop that I used at a much reduced size in a Pages document (it's a jpeg of my signature). While editing the document in Pages, the image looks very clear. However, in Quick View mode the image is blurry. It is also blurry if I import the document to Google Docs. Does anyone understand why this might be?
    Thanks

    I know what you mean, but I resized it by making it smaller, so the resolutions should have been more than fine. Don't you think? If I had dragged it into Pages and then enlarged the image I would understand it getting blurry but not the other way around. Also, it looks totally fine in Pages. It only looks bad when I view the document in Quick Look or upload it to Google Drive.

  • Why does the image go blurry when I export my file to jpeg from Illustrator CS6?

    Hi,
    I have created an image on illusrator CS6 and am ready to save it.
    I have saved it as a pdf format and the image stays as a sharp vector image and not blurry at all.
    But I also want to keep the image as a jpeg. So when I go to export the image from illustrator CS6 as a jpeg, the end result comes out blurry and not sharp anymore, but more jagged on the edges of the image.
    Is there anything I can do to keep my file as a jpeg with it staying as a sharp crisp image?

    The image above is a screenshot of the ai.file
    Above - second image is the screenshot of my export settings
    the 3rd image above is a close up zoomed in part of the image - the edges are jagged and blurry

  • JPEG and TIFF Photos Appear Blurry in Photoshop

    Hello,
    After placing my TIFF and JPEG files into photoshop they suddenly get very blurry and out of focus. When I open the original photos in finder they are clear. I am wondering what the problem is here.
    I use Photoshop CS5.1.
    Help appreciated.
    Thank you!

    I have a retina display computer. I think that may be the problem. It is frusterating though becasue now my photos all look really blurry and when I view them on another screen they are clear.
    This is a screen shot of my image width etc etc.

  • Encoding JPEG renders "blurry"

    I have created a java servlet that dynamically renders an image for use as a heading for each page. The servlets works fine, except for when a "background image" is used to go behind the text.
    Here is what the result looks like:
    http://www.mikelukenonline.com/servlets/lmp-framework?page_name=dynamicText&fontName=Old%20English%20Text%20MT&fontColor=168~167~167&shaddow=Y&fontSize=28&backgroundColor=white&text=Welcome%20to%20this%20site&width=500&x=11&y=21&height=34&backgroundImage=http://www.mikelukenonline.com/images/headings/titleblank2.jpg
    One of the parameters in the URL is called "backgroundImage" which takes a URL of a jpg and draws that first. In this example, the background image is:
    http://www.mikelukenonline.com/images/headings/titleblank2.jpg
    Now if you look at the background image that I just listed, you see that it looks pretty clear. However, if you look at the full link above, you can see that the baclground image is "blurry" or "pixilated" - not sure the best work to describe it!
    It is also worth noting that it is only when using the background image that it looks bad. If you remove the backgroundImage parameter, the text is rendered just fine:
    http://www.mikelukenonline.com/servlets/lmp-framework?page_name=dynamicText&fontName=Old%20English%20Text%20MT&fontColor=168~167~167&shaddow=Y&fontSize=28&backgroundColor=white&text=Welcome%20to%20this%20site&width=500&x=11&y=21&height=34
    I have tried everything I can think of and I can't get past this issue. Below are samples from the servlet. Any thoughts at all would be greatly appreciated!
    This is the code that "draws" the final image:
    private java.awt.Graphics.Graphics graphics = null;
    private java.awt.Image.Image image = null;
    private java.awt.Frame.Frame frame = null;
    public Image getImage(){

         frame.addNotify();
         return frame;
    private Graphics getGraphics() {
         if ( image == null )
              image = getFrame().createImage(getWidth(), getHeight());
         if ( graphics == null )

         return graphics;
    private void drawImage() {

                   Image image = getImage(); // returns the image from the previous code
                   mt.addImage(image, 0);
                   mt.waitForAll();
                   int w = image.getWidth(frame);
                   int h = image.getHeight(frame);
                   BufferedImage offscreen = new BufferedImage(w, h, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
                   graphics = offscreen.getGraphics();
                   graphics.drawImage(image, 0, 0, frame);
                         graphics.dispose();
                   com.sun.image.codec.jpeg.JPEGImageEncoder encoder = com.sun.image.codec.jpeg.JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(response.getOutputStream());
                   com.sun.image.codec.jpeg.JPEGEncodeParam param = encoder.getDefaultJPEGEncodeParam(offscreen);
                   param.setQuality(1, false);
                   encoder.setJPEGEncodeParam(param);
                   encoder.encode(offscreen);
              } catch (Exception e) {
              } finally {

    Hi,
    Well, you could try fixing the memory leak in
    JPEGAsyncDecoder. :)

  • Why does exporting to jpeg or png come out blurry in Illustrator CC?

    Hello,
    I am dying to export a poster ( size 27 x 41 in) from Illustrator CC into a jpeg. The image comes out blurry and text is fuzzy and not legible.
    300 dpi, anti-aliasing optimized. Why does this happen?
    The pngs won't even save, it takes hours and shuts down?
    How can I export this crisp and clear in a format that client can use to print it form Staples or other center?
    Kind,
    Owl101

    Hi There
    I am experiencing the same issue. The jpg / png files which are exported from Illustrator CC turns out bad... and I did not want huge files (example 72dpi for web images) Can @Adobe @AdobeCare please provide assistance? I am using the Retina Mac Book Pro laptop.
    Appreciate.

  • Jpegs look blurry when they are put online?

    Hi there, a bit confused as when I create logos for clients and even save them at 300 dpi they look pixilated when they are put online.
    I am sure this never used to be a problem, am I missing something?
    Thank you in advance.

    Thank you for replying. The situation is this: I am working for business who asked for logos in JPeg format. I manage their FB page. I created a cover picture of the logo (sized to the correct pixel size for FB) I 'saved for web' and created a Jpeg at highest res possible (not being resized as I created it at exact size) when I tried to upload it was blurry, particularly around the text. So I saved as a PNG, uploaded that and it worked perfectly.
    I met with the client today and she said she had tried to upload the images to her website and they came out pixelated too. I said she could use the PNG's but she asked for higher res images which I can't provide for her as they are already print resolution. Am I creating them too small, size wise? I just don't ever remember having this problem. I have always worked with Jpegs and used to get a crisp enough image.
    TIA

  • Jpegs look blurry after crop at fit to screen but are fine at 50%... Why?

    I recently upgraded to CS4 and have system 10.6.2.  Jpegs appear blurry after cropping at fit to screen but are fine at 16%, 50% or 100%...  My CS2 version never did this. Anyone know how to fix this bug?
    Thanks

    Your resolution (in the pic) is likely set to 72PPI. In smaller JPGs when they are enlarged to full screen, they will appear pixelated or blurry.
    Before cropping, try setting the PPI to 300.
    I had to do this when making PNGs for conversion to icons, because they would blur when converted. I set almost everything I do to 300PPI.

  • Blurry text when exporting PDF to jpeg or png

    Hello. Has anyone had a similar problem and found a way to deal with it as this?
    I get a PDF from someone in marketing and need to convert it to an image and resize so it can be emailed as a newsletter/bulletin. They want the entire thing to be an image.
    In Acrobat I export to jpg or png, then resize to 800 px wide (in photoshop). Sometimes this comes out alright. Usually some part of the text gets very blurry - usu. as distorted cloudiness in the background color or whitespace around the text.
    I'm much more a coder than a graphics person, but I need to learn if i can make this look good for them. Thanks in advance if you have any ideas.

    Not sure about Acrobat Pro 8, but in Acrobat Pro 9 (not Extended) you can Export>Image>Multiple Choice: JPEG, JPEG2000, PNG, TIFF.  I used JPEG and under the options in the export dialog box, leave the filename as is to coincide with the PDF filename and then choose Maximum Resolution under File Settings: Grayscale (JPEG, Quality:Maximum); Color (JPEG, Quality:Maximum) . . . skip down to Conversion Colorspace: Determine Automatically and Resolution choose 600pixels/inch for a letter size document.  This will result in a file size of 1.3MB per JPEG image if there is not a lot of information on the page.  I chose a simple header, footer with page numbering, and 5 lines of Lorem Ipsum text.  600dpi is overkill, you can go for 300dpi and still result in a decent image that will be able to be printed on a laser photocopier that is connected to a production computer.  Obviously if you are printing to a laser printer or a high quality inkjet 300dpi will suffice as well for a letter sized document.  But I have been told that 300dpi is not a standard rule of thumb and you must obtain specs from your printer since he/she can calculate by very strict rules the dpi you need for your content.  It depends on whether you have background images such as watermarks and also if your text body contains line-art.

  • Zoomed pdf's are clear but zoomed jpegs are blurry

    I work for an architect and i decided to upload a set of plans to the iphone via the jpeg format and view them through my photos on the phone. the iphone compresses the images and i can not zoom in to see the detail on the drawings, it blurrs out. however, if i pdf the draings and e-mail them to myself and view the pdf through the e-mail, i can view them fine.
    is there a way that i can store the pdf version of the files on the iphone to access them on a regular basis as opposed to having to go through my e-mail to view the files?
    thanks,
