Blurry Monitor

A user at my office had to replace his monitor. The text on screen appears fuzzy now. I've tried upping the level of font smoothing, and it hasn't seemed to help. Is this something that is affected by the computer? or is it the Monitor alone?

It could be a couple of things depending on is this on a Mac, which one?
If so there is a setting in System Preferences Displays, there are 2 different settings there you can set. If the display monitor he or she has is not a widescreen be sure that the stetched is not in use in the Display Resolutions.
In the Color selection you may have to Do a Calibration, Just click and follow th steps.
Also make sure you go to the upper left of the affected computer and check Software Update making sure that you have all the latest Firmware and Security Updates. All can affect the performance.

  • G5 blurry monitor

I"m running a new G5 imac 20". Just started today getting a problem where the pixels on my monitor get blurred for a quick second. Then everything goes back to normal. Also as I'm typing here, some of the text gets blurry for a sec. Haven't moved or bumped my machine, so it shouldn't be that. Any ideas?

Purchased my iMac G5 iSight model 3 days ago. Experiencing weird static/glitching/video artifacts on the screen when waking up after sleep. I have triple and sometimes quadruple finder menus and docks fuzzed out on the screen.
After 30 seconds or so monitor resolution snaps into place. It doesn't freak out every time it wakes, but, it does occur often--70% of the time.
    Very worrisome and annoying.
The local Mac Store (Eugene, Oregon) were not helpful. They condescended and made me feel like it was my fault--they insist there is nothing wrong with the hardware or software. I even filmed a Quicktime of the screen going haywire and they said they didn't want to watch it--basically left it at "if Apple declares it a known issue we'll acknowledge it, and figure out a way to fix it."

  • Blurry Monitor Help?

My monitor goes blurry when I open the lid. It happens on ocassion and adjusts as I move my screen up and down. My lid also seem loose, could that be it? Any help?

I also experience a problem with the VX2433WM. When I attach it to my MBP via HDMI (of course via a mini-dsiplay-port-to-HDMI adapter) it does recognize the screen, but for every resolution I select the picture is cute at the edges.
Since the screen is Full HD capable (1080 p 1920x1080) there should not be an issue at alle with any resolution.
any ideas why this could be?

  • 2nd Monitor Connected Via DVI to VGA Adapter is Blurry

I have a G4 dual 1.42 GHz (the last G4 model) and have an Apple 20" Cinema Display connected to the ADC port and a 21" CRT monitor connected to the DVI port via the DVI to VGA adapter supplied with the G4.
The CRT monitor display is blurry. I have tweaked display settings in System Preferences and the monitor's controls and nothing helps. I used this monitor in a dual monitor setup on a Power Mac 9600/300 and it was razor sharp, so I know that the monitor is okay. I could pull a display card from the old Power Mac 9600 since it's not being used anymore, but I hate to add another card to the G4 because of the heat problems. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm wondering, is it to be expected that the monitor connected to the DVI port via the DVI to VGA adapter won't look anywhere near as good as if it were connected to a separate graphics card? Thanks.

  • Photos Look Blurry on NTSC monitor when played from timeline

When I play back jpeg photos from my timeline on my monitor, the pictures look a bit blurry, especially right at the end of my transition, such as a cross dissolve...When I stop the playhead on a jpeg, after about 1 second, the image becomes very sharp on the monitor...once I start playing again, the image becomes a bit blurry!

    Dave,
On both my G4 and G5, I've encountered the same problem from time to time and here's the workaround that fixed it for me:
Apply a filter to the images. I use the 3-Way Color Corrector since many of the photos could stand a little tweaking for TV anyway. Render them and they should retain their original sharpness.
I have no idea what causes the problem, why it only affects some of the images and not all of them, nor do I know why re-rendering them after applying a filter works ... but it does for me.
    -DH
ps: another symptom that this fix takes care of is when you see a small shift (1 or 2 pixels) in the image's position as it comes out of a transition.

  • Macbook Pro Retina External Monitor Blurry

Just got a new macbook pro retina and got it home. After getting everything transferred over from my old toshiba I connected it to my 1 month old HP external monitor and the display is blurry. I have read on many sites that this is a common problem however I can not find a solution. I am hook up from HDMI to HDMI. O don't really want to go through trial and error of different adapter for the lightning port if that will not work. I have tried different HDMI cables to no success. Any Ideas?

    Hi AO1 James,
If I understand correctly, the external monitor was blurry from the moment you plugged it into your MacBook Pro with Retina display. I would first check the resolution settings for the monitor with the "How do I select additional resolutions on my display?" section of the following article:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
If it remains blurry after selecting your monitors optimal resolution, I would use the steps under the "Reset the system" section of the article to help troubleshoot the issue.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Blurry and shaking monitor on iBook G4.

I have an iBook G4 that is about 2.5 years old. Just today I started to have problems with my monitor. It's blurry in some spots, clear in others. (I can move a text file around on the screen and see the words go in and out of focus.) It also shakes, sometimes by as much as 10 or 15 pixels in any direction, about once every few seconds. I haven't dropped the laptop recently (or ever, to be honest) and I haven't done anything out of the ordinary that may have caused these problems. Does anyone have any clues or suggestions as to what might be going on?
If it helps to know: when the computer has just been turned on and is loading, everything is perfectly clear and normal. After the menu bar loads, the screen quickly becomes blurry and expands a bit (I know it "expands" because the dock is lower and closer to the periphery of the screen). The same thing happens when I shut down or restart my computer: it'll be blurry and shaking, but after all the applications close and it's ready to turn off I notice that my screen is clear and normally-sized again.
Thanks in advance for any help.
EDIT: Also, it might help to know that the shakiness doesn't seem to correspond to me moving my cursor or anything like that... and that the blurry spots are distributed throughout the screen and aren't just on the edges.

    Hey Madam,
First try an external monitor and post back.
The first thing that comes to mind is the GPU and it's possible that a shim repair will fix it.

  • I have an aluminum MacBook with Lion OS. I have hooked up a Samsung external HD monitor, but the image is slightly blurry.I also see a message for a second which says Analog. What to do??

I have an aluminium MacBook and have just connected an external Samsung HD monitor. The image is blurry and I cannot seem to fix it.
The MacBook display is 1280x800 but the maximum for the external monitor is much higher. Also the external monitor sometimes displays a (rapid) message implying that it's getting an Analog signal.
    How can I fix this??

FWIW, reformatting a USB disk is almost never an issue, and it's quick.
Buy a cheap external USB disk (regardless of the provided Windows or OS X or other disk format) (that's larger than your internal disk by some measure) and preferably buy a disk from a vendor that offers the right to return the disk if it doesn't work, connect the disk to your MacBook, wipe the disk and reformat it with Disk Utility, perform the backup (probably also using Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, while your MacBook is booted from the installation DVD), and then commence with the OS X upgrade.

  • Macbook Connected to External Monitor is Blurry

I have connected my Santa Rosa MB to my 22 inch Dell monitor and chose mirror mode. The macbook detected the monitor and set the res to the monitors native resolution but the image is blurry, not all sharp like when I connect my PC to it. I'm connected via DVI, btw. Is it blurry because of limitations of the video card? Or am I missing a setting somewhere? Thanks.

Yes it is a limitation of the video card. In mirror mode you are stuck with the maximum resolution the MacBook monitor uses so that limits what the external can do. If you check your displays settings you should see both of them are at 1280 X 800 and if you try to change the external it gets funky. Or should I say mine does in Mirror mode. I always use extended mode for this reason. Much better quality picture.

  • External monitor blurry image rMBP 2012

    Hey guys!
I have 2012 rMPB which works perfectly and i am connecting it to my 22" Benq monitor via MiniDisplayPort to VGA connector (monitor only has VGA).
Image on the external monitor is really bad, it looks blurry, not sharp enough and brightness is very low.I tried calibrating it, no luck
Monitor is working properly (tested on Win laptop) and resolution is set to native FullHD so i dont know what could be the problem...
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I'm facing the same problem. The fonts on an external monitor are very blurry. Graphics and icons are displayed crystal sharp. I can rule out any issue with the monitor or cable (mini DisplayPort to DVI) whatsoever, because if I run Ubuntu in VirtualBox, then within the VM the fonts are displayed sharp. Also no font issues on the notebook display itself.
So it all comes down to a font issue on external displays, as can be read in several forums. The font smoothing tweaks didn't show an effect.
    Macbook Air 13" mid-2012
    OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion (10.8 pre-installed)
External Display: Benq G2222HDL connected via miniDisplayPort to DVI Adapter on the Thunderbolt connection
Can anyone reproduce the correct font display in a virtual machine?
    Thanks,

  • Blurry picture on second monitor with MB Pro 13"

My wife has a brand new MB Pro 13". When we attach an external monitor to it (with a digital DVI cable), we have the following problem: When the computer's lid is closed, everything is fine, the picture is crisp. However, when we open the lid and both displays are turned on, the picture on the second monitor gets slightly blurred.
When I do the same setup with my 15" MB Pro, both computers have a crisp picture.

A blurry picture means that the resolution is incorrect. Go to the Display preference pane and make sure that the two monitors have the native resolution set properly. If the two monitors have different native resolutions, one will always be blurry in mirrored mode. If the displays are not mirrored, it's possible that one will reset to the wrong resolution on opening/closing the lid.

  • Apple Macbook Pro w/Retina Blurry w/ External Monitor

I bought new HP 2311x monitor and connecting it thorugh the DVI to MiniDisplay port adapter. The text on the screen is very blurry. This is only happening with the retina macbook pro. I tried several other laptops and no issue.
I called apple support and they stated they can not guarentee results with third party products. The resolution to buy a 1,000 apple monitor is not a good answer.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Any Fix?
If you are, please post to this thread with the model monitor you are using and how it is connect. This needs to be fixed by APPLE!!!!!!!!

I tried all those things very first, monitor setup (All that did with that is screw up perfect settings on my monitor that worked perfectly with windows machine) and sparsely available display settings on Mac. Anyway, I am still perplexed as to why the thunderbolt port next to charging port suks so bad but not the other port that is away from it?
Retina settings has nothing to do with external display which is what we are working on. Retina settings are only for the laptop display.
My extrnal display is recognizing the monitor's native resolution and it sets correct resolution. It is just that Mac has TUNED its graphics for RETINA (non-native) display which does not like to support non-retina normal (native) display. You know how apple works. I'm sure it will work flawlessly with Apple Monitor because they exactly know their defeciencies on laptop so they correct it with Apple product.
Anyway, all that will do for Apple is defame them more than they will make on selling their monitors!
Good luck Apple, you will need it, unless you really start addressing issues (First step is acceptance of the issue!)

  • Program monitor blurry but source monitor is clear

Please...I have imported tifs at 1280x800, and they look clear in the source monitor, but when placed on the timeline, they look slightly blurry...noticeably blurry. Video does the same thing. What setting am I missing? Thx.

Sorry Jeff and Jim...actually OTS means over the shoulder...we used it in tv news...so it is a box that is superimposed like a picture in picture over the shoulder of an anchor...and we need it to be 4x3, or so we thought, because that is close to the size that the powerpoint is kicking out...hence the 1280x800. I can make the OTS any size we need to, just so it doesn't squish the words or distort them.
So the final product is widescreen 16:9, with a 4:3ish box (OTS)...all being used for online classes, final screen size yet to be determined, in flash.
That said, I cannot get a clean image in my timeline, even though the source monitor shows the image very clearly.
I would love to email one of the powerpoint images to someone who is willing so that they might load it up in premiere and help me out with the correct numbers for correct sizing out of powerpoint and into premiere.
I'm an old AVID cutter, (story editor for food network and HGTV for the last 8 years) trying to switch it up because premiere CS3 seems pretty powerful as I get more and more into it, and my avid seems slower than usual, undependable.
I dont know the terminology as well as I should, depended on IT guys a little too much on our production systems...now I am on my own with relatively new machines and, well, it FEELS like I am on my own! any help you could provide, it goes without saying, would be a Godsend. Willing to learn. Need to get this project fixed, and soon. thx.

  • Importing .asf files, blurry in source/sequence monitors and output

I have a large amount of material to work with in .asf form, 480x360 resolution. I'll be outputting to 480x360 as well, so no scaling/zooming needed at all. Problem is, when I import one of those asfs it immediately becomes blurry, i.e. in the source monitor even before I insert it into the sequence and do any modifications. Comparing the imported files to the originals there is a noticeable difference at the exact same dimensions.
I've made sure my sequence settings are at 480x360 resolution. Not sure where else to look on this, any suggestions?
In the past I've done a very similar workflow in PE with no problems, so I'm assuming (hoping??) that there's some easily changed option. Thanks in advance.

Have tried various other permutations in project setup and output - still no luck.
I'm wondering if a clue is the behavior of the program monitor - the clip displays clearly in it until I 'select' the video screen, at which point it blurs just like the output. If I click another area of the screen again, the image resharpens, and so forth. Anyone know what mechanism is causing that?

  • Why are my display screen colors going blurry?  Is the monitor going?  Can it be fixed?

The display screen of my Imac osx 10.4.4 had a vertical colored line through it for several weeks.  Now all the colors have become blurry.  I ran the hardware test and there are no issues.  Can the display be fixed or is the computer dieing?

I had a similar issue with an iSight G5 about a year ago. The colors began to go funky on the screen and I ran every test I could think of. The situation gradually worsened and I finally put the iMac to rest in a back room in my basement. The hard drive still works and the information is accessible on it and I have retrieved just about everything I can think of from it. The computer didn't die, but the monitor did. An iMac without a working monitor is kind of useless.
I'm guessing your iMac is fairly old - by today's standards anyway - and even if the monitor issue can be resolved, it may not be worth the cost. You would have to find that out on your own at an Apple Store or a Mac repair shop.
Maybe it can be repaired .... and this is just my opinion .... but I would find a nice recycling place to lay the Mac to rest and buy a new one.
