Blurry photos -- EUREKA moment !

I just stumbled onto something that seemed to help with the old 'imported photos are blurry' problem. Mac mavens: I'm no expert, so maybe you can weigh in on this and see if this may actually be a solution, or if my hopes will soon be dashed. Maybe this can help solve this problem once and for all.
I'm working on a movie - a kid's DVD that consists entirely of illustrations. Every time I'd import into iMovie HD from iPhoto -- you know what happened. Fuzzy photos. Frustration. You know the drill. Just for the heck of it, I hit 'file', 'new project' -- but this time.. when it asked me for my import source, I changed it from DV to HD 720, then opened another using the HD 1080i setting, and the photos are now CRYSTAL CLEAR. Yes -- crystal clear in iMovie. Please tell me I'm onto something (he asked nervously)

Mac OS X (10.4.7) iMac G5
Mac OS X (10.4.7) iMac G5

Please tell me I'm onto something (he asked nervously)
Yes and No. Yes, in that both 720p and 1080i projects display a better quality image than does a DV project. In other words, the image looks better in iMovie. And it looks better after exporting to a QuickTime movie that's played on the computer, in part because the image is so much larger than DV.
But since we can't burn HD DVDs — at least not yet — that quality isn't retained when we burn a DVD. The HD gets converted back to ho-hum quality.
There is one advantage to creating HD slideshows. When the day comes we ARE able to burn HD DVDs, your projects will be ready to burn. You'll be able to avoid the embarrassment of watching DV slideshows some day with your grandchildren, and one asking "Grandpa, why do your slideshows look so weird?"

How do I see which albums a specific photo in Moments/Collections have been added to?

In addition, it seems like Photos distinguish between the way pictures is managed in 'Albums' vs. 'Shared albums'. It seems like, removing a picture in Moments/Collections will remove the picture in the corresponding Albums (which I think is great) but not removing the picture in 'Shared albums'. In other words, a duplicate picture seems to be created when adding a picture to a shared album (instead of a reference picture like for 'Albums'). Am I correct? This is very confusing.
In that case, I assume I need to remove my original picture each time I add a picture to a 'Shared album' in order to avoid duplicates and reach some kind of "master" management of my pictures?

• Major Bug in iPhoto '11 -- Blurry Photos in Books

I spent the last week putting together a photo book as a Christmas gift for my wife. I was just about to hit the Purchase Book button when I noticed that several of the photos looked blurry. I attempted to double-click on them to examine them closely, but nothing happened. I left the book layout area and into the album where the individual photos were. When I attempted to edit the photo, I got the dreaded exclamation point -- iPhoto had lost track of the original photos.
I tried rebuilding the database by holding down the Command & Option keys during launch, but after a very lengthy rebuilding process, the photos were still blurry. Luckily, I realized that the problem photos were those that I had used the "Enhance" feature in iPhoto's edit area. By clicking the "Revert to Original" button at the bottom right (or right-clicking), iPhoto was able to rediscover a high-resoultion version of the photo (pre-Enhancement).
It was a pain to go through over 100 photos and manually click the "Revert to Original" button, but at least I got my sharp, high-resolution photos back. Spending a week and $50 on a book of blurry photos would have been bitter disappointment, not to mention a lousy Christmas gift.

Hi Larry,
Thanks for your reply,
I did a rebuild of the library, but the error remained.
To answer the issues you have with my post:
1/ My post is not about books, but the original posting dug deeper and got to the issue of editing photos in iPhoto and having the same problems as I experienced and described. Exporting a photo in a book or in an email, what ever export/production mode is, it came down to a problem of photo Edit in iPhoto.
2/ Also, I found this post via googling "iphoto bug when editing photos". It is not the first time a thread is picked up a couple of months later, or is it ?
3/ Also, on "the "sharing" by email works but is failing as well"
Indeed the sharing by email works, that is the photo gets exported to the email, ie mail is activated and the photo is composed in email but in the email, as I mentioned, "the photo has a serious quality loss and is blurred, though in the Edit Tab/mode it is still full quality and sharp."
Thanks again for your reply and help.

On my iPhone I have duplicates of photos in moments after upgrading to ios7

- If the photos were taken by or saved to the iPod just use the computer's camera/image capture software to get them from the iPod.
- If the photos were synced to the iPod you need a third-party program such as PhoneView of TouchCopy.

• Problem with soft, blurry photos in Slideshow mode in AB 2.1.1.9

Hello,
I downloaded the 2.1.1 update to AB which was supposed to take care of the blurry photo display in slideshow mode.
It is better than before, but the photos are still not nearly as sharp as they should be. When I display them in any other applications, e.g. xnview they are crisp and clear.
Is it only me, or do you also have this problem?
Is that going to be fixed for good in CS4? Has anyone played with CS4 AB beta?
Regards,
Kefir

Since 11/07 I am using CS3 and Bridge 2.1.1.9 with the slideshow option very sufficiently until Sunday. Since yesterday I try to display a file of 280 photos with filetype CR2 with partial bad effect. The first 40 slides are presented normally, then the next 60 photos but the photos are still not nearly as sharp as they should be which can be easily controlled using immediately CS3 with display mode of about 100 %. Afterwards the next 2 photos are ok. The next part of 10 photos are displayed wrong as before and so on. A short time before the first appearance of this problem I got a message that bridge has a problem but I don't remember which one.
I am using an 19" EIZO display with digital connection and a Matrox card which is really not slow. I would be happy for a solution of this problem.

• My camera is producing blurry photos before and after ios5. What to do?

My camera is producing blurry photos before and after ios5. What to do?

Jp0man-
There are several reasons a photo might be blurry. It might be out-of-focus, the iPad or subject might have been moving when the photo was taken, or the blur might actually be noise resulting from not having enough light.
Try taking a photo of a fixed object 3 or 4 feet away with a lot of light, with the iPad propped against something solid. If you still get a blurry image, you may have a defective iPad and should contact Apple about it. If you can demonstrate the problem to an Apple Store Genius, you may get a new iPad on the spot.

• Blurry photos when saved

Okay so I use safari and I save photos to my iPod touch 8gb 2nd or 3rd gen and they are blurry. I tried the method with the re sync and it doesnt work because Im saving them and the pictures are not in my computer. Also, I dont like going to my computer every time and re sync them when I save pictures from safari.. Is there going to be a fix for this or what??

Firstly it doesn't matter what size the image is, even if it's the standard ipod touch screen size, it will still display blurry. It's a bug. This is a pathetic limitation and should be an embarrassment to the company.
Secondly, the issue happens even when you've saved the image from Mail. That being said, if you were to open up Twinkle, and share this blurry photo with the world, they will see it as clear and perfect as all getup. Then if you go and look at your photo in Twinkle you will see that the image is clear, and yet still blurred in your photo container on the ipod.
You're trying to tell me that this thing that can support running 3d applications and games is so inferior that it can't display a image without time traveling back to 1988?
Give me a break, Apple better fix this. It makes them look cheap.

There's no free lunch. Topaz does make a plug-in called inFocus. Reviews are mixed on how good it works. I have the entire Topaz suite so I have inFocus but I haven't used it enough to make a judgement. Luckily they have a free trial so you can try it out if you want risk-free.
Don't get your hopes too high. No expectations, no disappointments.

• Blurry photo question

Just started on Imovie 10. Wanting to create a work with still images and text for an audio work. Unsatified with blurry photos. They look good in preview, sharp and clear. Press play and they're blurry. They are high res images that I'm importing. What's the go? Thanks.

Hi Fabina
1. If You shared/exported to ?? from within iMovie, my guess is that iMovie
asked for if it should render the movie. I think it destroys the photos.
If so You probably need to re-import Your photos and re-do Your movie.
2. 1Gb USB memory is as You say to small to handle Your movie un-compressed.
I would bite in the sour apple and buy an ext FW hard disk AND IMPORTANT
format it as Mac OS Extended (or You destroy Your movie) and on this
move the whole project to the Mac with a superdrive.
alt. buy an external DVD burner and figure out howto get iDVD 5 to find it.

• My rear facing camera has started taking blurry photos, it cant seem to focus. Any ideas?

My rear facing camera has started taking blurry photos, it cant focus on anything and just blurs. I have tried turning it off and back on, ive also done a restore and still doesnt work. If your really close to something it will be ok but anything other than right in front of the camera and it just blurs. Any ideas?

i have iphone4 32gb.
my auto focus also not working.i was tried everthing but not work.
-restore firmware/ios = not working
-install super camera = not working
and lastly i've got the problem solved!
step 1:
open your default camera application and dont close it.
step 2:
flick the rear camera using your finger at the top side and the back side of the camera lens,
and that same time too try to tap your screen to help your camera to force/help/make auto focus function to work.
and now your camera + auto focus is working!!

• Fixing blurry photos

How do i fix blurry photos in either iphoto or another mac compatible application?

You can try the sharpness slider in iPhoto's Edit/Adjust pane. The same goes for any image editor that offers sharpness. It has limited effect and really can't sharpen a truly out of focus photo.

• Blurry Photos in Photo gallery and Interactive image widget--(iBooks Author)

The pictures that I put in my photogallery and in my interactive image widget were at first clear and would get bigger when I tapped on them (in preview mode on my iPad), and then all of the sudden, they all are blurry, and now when I tap on them, they don't get bigger/zoom! How do I fix this??

The iBook is about 80 pages, and there is an average of one widget per page, sometimes 2. There are a few galleries in which there are more than one picture, but many of them are simply with one picture (because this is the only way to make it get bigger when you tap on it when on the iPad). For the Interactive Image widgets, I took a screenshot of a google maps route, and then focused on different stops to show directions on my iBook. I just redid all of the photo galleries that were blurry, and they are fixed now (no longer blurry). BUT the interactive images are still blurry....maybe I just need to go back and redo them?

• Blurry photos on Everpix (syncing from Aperture)

I'm trying to sync pictures from my Aperture library to everpix.com using their Mac Uploader. However, no matter what I do, every single picture I upload is fuzzy when viewed within the everpix.com website. You can see a screenshot of a duck from the website (right), overlayed with the jpg that was synced with the Mac Uploader (left). The website image is so much fuzzier than the original image that I can't believe anyone isn't complaining about this - I must be doing something wrong.
Every single picture I've uploaded looks like this. I thought maybe it was something wonky with the fact that I was viewing this on a Retina MacBook Pro, but I tried it on my wife's non-retina MacBook and I can still see a difference. If I download the picture to my computer and view it in preview, it's as tac sharp as the original. If I sync my Aperture library with another service like Loom or SmugMug, I do not have this problem - the photos on the website look like they do in preview.
There are no everpix forums or discussion board, so I emailed everpix and got this response: "If you want to compare photo quality, you need to compare with a downloaded full-resolution photo from Everpix (that's of course assuming you synced full-resolution photos to Everpix in the first place)."
I find this hard to believe - I know they have their own image optimization (https://support.everpix.com/entries/23231607) but it shouldn't make all of my photos look blurry and out of focus.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Thanks!

Photos added to a shared stream will be a lower resolution than the originals in your camera roll but they shouldn't be blurry. If they are, you could try again later to see if it's a server problem. Otherwise, to get the originals from your computer in your camera roll you'll either have to email them to your self, then save them to your camera roll or use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to over your wifi.

• Blurry photos in iPhoto 11 when transferring from iPhoto 6 on different computer

I recently bought a new MacBook Pro and I'm transferring my files over from my old MacBook. When I moved my photos from the old one (running iPhoto 6) over to the new one (running iPhoto 11), the images look horrible. They're all blurry and I can't enlarge them hardly at all without them looking really bad. Does anyone know why this would be and how I can fix it? Thank you in advance!

The key question here is what exactly did you move, and how?
This sounds very like you either copied only the thumbnails from the older machine or you imported one Library to another.
FWIW
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
