  • How do I transfer my photos and music from windows format iPod to my new iMac

I have just purchased a new imac and want to transfer my photo's and music from my windows formatted ipod to the imac, can you help? is there a download that can do this transfer?

Fortunately, you are going from Windows to Mac.  Macs can use the Windows disk format, so your iMac can read data off of your Windows-formatted iPod.  The reverse would not be true, because a Windows PC cannot read data off of a Mac-formatted iPod.
However, iTunes syncing is generally in one direction only, from the computer's iTunes library to the iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to sync song files from iPod to computer.  But there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer song files from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the songs files are on your iMac's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library.
NOTE:  Ideally, you should transfer your complete iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer.  If that is possible (you still have access to your old computer with its iTunes library intact), and want to try that (instead of using your iPod as the data source), you can post back.
Photos are different.  When iTunes syncs photos to the iPod, they are optimized for the iPod's small screen and stored in a single database file (to save storage space in iPod).  Therefore, the images are at lower resolution on the iPod, and there is no way to extract individual photos from the database using software on your iMac.  The only exception is IF you had a setting enabled in iTunes when you synced the photos to the iPod.  That setting is on the iPod's Photos screen in iTunes (where you set up syncing for photos) for Include full resolution photos when syncing.  If that option was checked, you can enable disk use for the iPod and look in the Photos folder using Finder to retrieve the photos.
NOTE:  There may be third-party software that can extract individual photos from the iPod's database file.  But they will still be the lower res versions of the original photos.

  • Blurry photos when burning via magic idvd

Ok, so I construct a perfectly focused slideshow in idvd, then burn to a dvd and presto, all photos blurry whether viewed on my iMac that produced it or thru a dvd player on TV.
the photos are in jpeg format.
I enhance each photo ( sharpness etc) and when played back in preview mode on my mac are fine.
What am I doing wrong? I thought Magic iDVD was supposed to remove the hassles, not create them!

I've not used the Magic iDVD option so don't know what it does with the photos you provide it but have create many, many iDVD slideshow projects with photos from iPhoto and have had extremely good results.
I create an iDVD project, add a slideshow, move the photos I want (cropped to 4:3 size ratio beforehand) to the slideshow, add music and save the project as a disk image (this separates encoding problems from burning problems). I mount and play the disk image with DVD Player and once I'm satisfied all is well I burn the disk image to disk using Disk Utility or Toast as the slowest burn speed possible using top quality media, Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R, which are the most recommended in these forums.
Since I'm not familiar with Magic iDVD tell me a couple of things: are you creating the slideshow in iPhoto or just making the still photos available to iDVD by placing them in an album for export to iDVD?
If you're creating the slideshow in iPhoto and use the Ken Burns effect the image size should be a minimum of 1440 x 1080 pixels in size to help keep the image sharp during the zooming of the KB effect. The output resolution of DVDs is 720 x 540 - a DVD standard and not iDVD issue. The slideshow is converted to a Quicktime movie format for use in iDVD. Then iDVD encodes the QT file again in its process. That's a lot of compression from the original source files.
For what it's worth here are some tips for preparing photos for use in iDVD that might help:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6675.html
    http://www.scantips.com/basics1f.html
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Blurry photos when imported from iPhoto?

I'm noticing that when I insert photos from iPhoto into a movie project, they are blurry and this is hurting the quality of my projects. Does anybody know if there are resolution issues or compatibility issues that will help me with this? I've tried just sharpening the image in the editing pane but it's never very good! What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Here's the deal a little more clearly. I'm simply taking photos on my digital camera on "super high quality" - 3072 x 2304, and when I import them into my iMovie project, they go a little blurry.
Not sure if you are referring to preview window, full-screen previewing, or the final output video being "blurry" here. Suggest yo start off by tracing the image flow. Start off by opening your project package by "Control-Clicking" it in the finder and selecting the "Show Contents" menu option. Then look for a movie file names "Still Images" at this level. Double click this file to open it in the movie player but do not "Play" the movie. Instead, use the right and left arrow keys to step through the file and examine your images carefully. These images should be scaled down from your source images as previously explained. These are the images that iMovie '08 will use when creating your export/shared movie file later. How do they look and what are their dimensions? If all looks okay here and your "softening" is only in the "preview" display, I would likely try making a test export/sharing to see if the actual output looks as "poor" -- i.e., try to determine at what point things may be "going bad." At this point I'm not sure if you are simply "hyper-sensitive" regarding you photos, if iMovie is actually introducing a "normal" loss in quality due to processing, or if you may have a more serious application problem unique to your install for some particular reason.
Can I change settings anywhere so that the resolution's match? How do I know for example, if my project is set at 1920 x 1080 (all I know is I'm working in iMovieHD. Is it possible to import photos so that the resolution isn't automatically scaled up or down?
You can of course pre-scale or crop/scale manually before import into iMovie. However, if you do so in iPhoto/Aperture, I suspect the same scaling algorithm will be used as in iMovie. Have not done so myself, but if I did, I would likely use Photoshop to do this since you can try various resampling options to see which you may prefer for the given content.

  • Photos onto Ipod from windows???

How can I put my pictures on my 5th gen 60gb ipod????

Ok, create a folder where you can put all your photos. If you already have a folder then open itunes first then connect your usb to your ipod and connect it to your computer it should automatically update, but wait your not done yet.
Once you have your ipod connected a screen is gonna come up with different tabs: music, videos, photos, etc. Click on the photo tab and check where it says sync photos and on the right side to that there is gonna be a place where you can browse or find the folder where you have all your photos, select that folder.
It should now automatically start transferring all your photos to your ipod if it does not, just disconncet safely your ipod and close itunes and then open it again and connect your ipod via usb to your computer. Now it should do it. If for some reason it does not then you did something wrong. Believe this stuff works, just be a little patient and you will see it will work.
Just remember that from now on save all your photos on Adobe photoshop or you can do what I do, I save pictures I get from myspace.com and save them on my pictures folder on my computer, then after that I transfer them by right clicking them and opening them with Adobe and then save as and rename them, and it works for me.
    Hope this has helped.

  • Burning a windows DVD from iPhoto 09

Dose a Windows DVD burned from iPhoto have the information on board to allow printing of the photos, I seem to recollect one had the choice of including this info prior to the burn, but cannot remember from where.

It worked for me and I'm using iPhoto '08. I was trying to see how to make the MAC created DVD readable on Windows. see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2135626
Thanks for the simple instructions. You made my day.

  • Wrong photo will import from iPhoto window

During the normal course of editing, all of the photos that were in the movie were overprinted with a random movie clip still. The thumbnails in the project window still show the intended photo, but only the new clip still will show during playback. By right-clicking the photo and doing "Show in Finder", the correct .jpg file is referenced. When I try to drag the correct photo back in from the photo media window, a photo will be brought in, but it will be one that appears a few spots away in the list from the intended one. The thumbnail remains the correct photo. I believe something has become corrupted in my iMovie project that will not show the correct photo, even though the program is internally pointing to the correct photo. Very frustrating, as I have lost many days of careful editing. Made a copy of the project and have tried many things, to no avail.
Anyone have an idea? Is there a parameter file or something that I can delete that will reset things? Thanks very much.

The distortion/blurriness may arise due to the size of the photo being imported from iPhoto.
iMovie HD 6 appears to have problems handling very large photos - these should be resized (not cropped) in iPhoto before being imported to iMovie HD. The process is described in this post by Karl Petersen on 14/04/2007:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4389924#4389924
Karl describes the process very thoroughly (as always) in Point 3 of his post.
Doing as Karl suggests may not, of course, help in your particular case but it's certainly worth a try.

  • Why is it that when I connect my iPhone 5S to my Windows Vista computer, the photos made with my iPhone are all of very low quality and most of them are turned upside down?

Why is it that when I connect my iPhone 5S to my Windows Vista computer, the photos made with my iPhone are all of very low quality and most of them are turned upside down?
On another note, the iPhone tells me that it's ''busy'' when opening a photo on the computer.
(I tried restarting my PC, connecting via another USB port, importing using PhotoStream, etc...)

Are you using the front or rear camera? When you say they are low quality, are you referring to file/pixel size, or how the picture looks? As far as upside down, how are you holding the phone? Older versions of Windows have issues reading the Metadata from the pictures and will not display the same.

    Hi iTunes-1,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The error message you posted indicates a possible firmware update is needed for iTunes for Windows to work with your CD drive.
iTunes for Windows: Updating the firmware on your CD or DVD drive - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201852
Having outdated firmware can cause issues using CDs and DVDs with iTunes for Windows. Firmware is a type of software stored in a chip in hardware that can sometimes be updated.Identifying drives and firmware versions
To run CD Diagnostics, follow the steps in this document.
After following the steps to run CD Diagnostics linked above, look at section three to find out more about your optical drive(s).
Here is an example of what section three might look like:
In this example there are two drives. Drive E is a Samsung DVD-ROM drive with a model designation of SD-616 that has firmware version F000. Drive F is an NEC drive with a model designation of NR-7900A that has firmware version 1.08.Updating the firmware
If the optical drive you are using came with your computer, check with the support site for your computer for a firmware update. Typically you will need to go to the support website for the computer maker and click on a "downloads" or "updates" link, and then enter your computer model designation and operating system version to see what updates are available. Then look through the available updates for a firmware update for your optical drive. Download the updater and run it. If you need assistance applying the update, contact the maker of your computer.
If the optical drive you are using came as a separate part (was not included with a computer), check the support site for the drive maker for a firmware update. Sometimes the manufacturer is not clear in the CD Diagnostics results. In that case, you may just have to search the Internet for the drive model designation. You can usually find out who made the drive by looking through the results of such a search. Once you have identified who made your drive, go to the support website for that company. Look for a "downloads" or "updates" link, and then enter your optical drive model designation. Download the updater and run it. If you need assistance applying the update, contact the maker of the optical drive.Verifying that the firmware was updated
    Run CD Diagnostics again.
Examine the CD Diagnostics results. The firmware version for the drive should be the new version.

Also, you mentioned that you have been successful burning a CD with the Windows OS.  Make sure that you have closed all software programs that can access the CD burner so that there isn't a conflict for the drive.   Sometimes chaning the burn speed from "maximum" to 8x can also help in this situation.
I hope this information helps ...

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing issues when printing from Windows Live Photo Gallery on your Windows 8 computer to your HP ENVY 5640 e-All-in-One Printer, as your prints continue to default to the letter size Paper Tray. I would like to assist you today with resolving this printing issue. Can I please have you follow the steps below to properly configure your print settings under the Print dialogue window in Windows Live Photo Gallery.  1. Load your Photo Paper in the Photo Tray on your printer  2. Open an image you would like to print under Windows Live Photo Gallery 3. Click on File and select Print   4. Under the Print dialogue window please ensure that your printer, Paper Size, Quality, and Paper Type are all set properly for your specific print job    5. Next, click on the Options button on the bottom right hand corner. Under the Print Settings dialogue box click Printer Properties.    6. Next, change the Paper Source to Photo Tray. If it currently is set to 'Main Tray' please click the Main Tray option and it will drop down to allow you to select Photo Tray. Click OK once the Tray change has been made.    NOTE: If the Paper Size shows an exclamation mark, it means that your Photo Tray does not support the Paper Size selected. Click the dropdown next to Paper Size and choose a size that does not show an exclamation mark.     7. Under the main Print dialogue window click Print on the bottom right   Your document should print as per normal now from the proper Paper Tray.   Please let me know if the steps provided resolve your Paper Tray photo printing issue. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • How to migrate photo library from windows into iPhoto '09

I have spent altogether too much time fretting about this transition and searching for solutions online, and I'm certain someone else has figured this out.
I just switched from Windows to a mac, and I'm wanting to move my photo library into iPhoto. I already have my photos separated into folders by event (I used Picasa for Windows). Is there any way to get those 312 folders to translate into iPhoto Events? And for the hail mary, is there a way to import any Picasa data into iPhoto? I've found iPhotoExpert to basically do that the other way around (i.e. migrating from iPhoto to Picasa), but I'm looking to migrate to iPhoto from Picasa.
    Anybody done this successfully?

I realize iPhoto is not a file manager, I've gotten over that part. At this point I would just like it to recognize different folders as different events. I feel like that is a little feature that would go a long way, not only for migrating libraries like in this case, but also in the future.
I will often create separate folders within my camera's menus for different events, so that when I import the photos it makes it easier to distinguish the different events, even if they span multiple days. If only there was a checkbox next to "imported items from finder" called "treat folders as events when importing" that applied recursively to folders imported.
Update: I took a leap of faith and dragged a portion of my library into iPhoto (after unchecking that "Autosplit Imported items from Finder" checkbox) and it did exactly what I was hoping it would! Turns out it does apply recursively, which is really handy. I can just drag my entire "Pictures" folder with all of my photos nicely organized into events by folder into iPhoto, and it recognizes each folder as a separate event without having to drag each folder separately! hooray! I ended up doing so with the "Photos" icon selected in the sidebar, I don't know if that made a difference or not. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

  • How do I export HDR photos made on Photoshop CS5 onto a flashdrive so I can use them on a window machine for commercial purposes.  Adobe support claims it is a apple problem not theirs.  PS the other window machine doesn't have Photoshop cs 5 installed?

Hi, How do I export HDR photos made on a macpro with photoshop cs5 onto a flashdrive so they can be imported correctly into a windows machine that doesn't have photoshop installed on it?  Already exported to a HP flashdrive but they do not even show up on a windows machine. Need that capabillity since this is for commercial printing.  My wife's mac laptop only shows 3/4 of the picture the rest is grayed out.  Adobe support claims it is a Apple problem.  Love the finger pointing and hold me blameless atitude on their part.  Told them creating a picture should be like gas that can be used in anybody's car, just not their Adobe equipped ferrari.  Do I need to convert the file struture so it can be read by the window machine? How would I do that ?  Any comments appreciated. Doug

I certainly wouldn't expect to read native PS CS5 files with all features intact and supported on a machine that doesn't have CS5 installed. Try saving the files as flattened (no layers) TIFFs before moving them to the flash drive and trying to open them on the Windoze box.
