Blurry photoshop image in Microsoft word

Hi All, I am a bit of a newbie to photoshop and am looking for some advice. I have edited some photos in photoshop to which they look lovely and crisp and clear only to insert them into a Microsoft word document in which the look blurry/fuzzy. They also look this way on the web (The images will eventually be used on the web). I have resized them down from 10497 x 7103 to 600 x 400px and at 200ppi ( I have also tried to take the photos using smaller settings on the camera with no success) . Have I missed doing something?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am pulling my hair out!!!
Thanks in advance

You have to do some reading about what DPI/ PPI actually means and how the programs use it. Word doesn't really care for anything other than 72/ 96 DPI because that's how its internal handling works, but it will pass through higher DPI to printers where supported, even if the screen display may look funky. Beyond that I'm not sure what you are asking. Inevitably downsizing an image to a 20th of its original resolution will destroy detail and things like saving them to compressed formats or placing them not aligned with the screen pixel grid will cause further resampling. You would have to be much more specific about what you do and provide screenshots, system info etc.. Either way, as already said, you need to do some basic reading on a broader scope. This isn't even much of an Adobe thing, it's really fundamental stuff and I'm sure you can even find tutorials that explain fancy image manipulation in Office apps...

  • Compress file / images in Microsoft word and powerpoint

On the older version of word and power point, compressing images was very easy: right clik, compress images, and done.  I don't have this option on my 2008 version.  I am finding it very frustrating to work with very large image files.  I write a lot of reports with photos using word (maybe not the best sofware for that, but I am old school, if you have a better suggestion for a better sofware, please feel free to suggest...), same with powerpoint, a lot of photos.  With word, I am currently editing the photos on photoshop first before using them on a word document, a real pain.  On powerpoint, it is more complicated and my presentions are enormous.  Would you have a suggestion on how to produce lower resolution / smaller file on both word and powerpoint, quick and easy solution if poss? Is the solution to upgrade to office 2011 or is it more money wasted to Microsoft?
    Many thanks for your help
    Yannick

    Dear Varjak,
Many thanks for your reply.  I agree it is a Microsoft product but used on a mac....  As many of us (Mac' users) are still using Office (sometime relunctantly but no option), I am hoping for a response from a Mac user' point of view.  I have spotted differences between Mac office and Microsoft office and would therefore appreciate answers from a Mac user.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Microsoft Word & Photoshop Elements auto loading

Can anyone explain why when I syn my phone to iTunes that Microsoft Word automatically comes up? It does it on my laptop but not my other laptop. Also, if I have pix that I've taken or not with my iPhone, why if Scanner and Camera Wizard is suppose to get the pix is Photoshop Elements also trying to get the pix? How to I keep Photoshop Elements from trying to get the pix?

If it works in windows you are fortunate, because it certainly does not work on mac version.
Note that I have done this thousands of times in PE8. I'm guessing it is a common use. I use the functionality for combining many images on the same printable page, such as images of my wife's students. YES, I can resize it when I paste the image into MSWord, but it is an extra hassle unnecessary in PE8, and broken in PE11.
Note also that using the rectangular marquee to select a portion of the image (say 1" x 1") and copy rsults in pasted image of about 5" x 5".
In the "resize image" user is able to specify dimensions of the picture in either inches or pixels. I choose inches. In PE11 the image shows new size, and if saved, reopening shows correct size. The problem appears to be when PE11 "copies" the image.

  • Photoshop Image Gets Compressed In MS Word

I can't figure this out... and I've tried everything I know / have been able to find on Google.
I'm using Microsoft Word 2010. When I save the document I use Save as > PDF
I created a few images for headers inside of Photoshop CS6. I've tried quite a few resolutions (600, 300, 220, 150, 96, 72) and I've also done all of the tips out there for preventing compression (going into settings > advanced > turning compression off, clicking image going to format preventing compression, and also the save as > tools > 220 dpi/use document compression).
I've also tried a ton of different file types: Jpg, png, gif, tiff, and pdf.
None of this works and my images keep getting compressed when it comes out in PDF.
How do I get this to stop compressing my images?
P.S. The image looks TOTALLY fine inside of the document. But as soon as I export it looks compressed and choppy.

Don't use Save As > PDF to export the document. Instead print the document to a PDF and select the High Quality Print setting. This isn't going to prevent the image from looking like a raster image when you zoom in on the PDF, but it will keep the compression to a minimum.
On a side note, for this type of work you should really be using Illustrator if you want to retain good quality of your image when exported as a PDF as well as not using Word for this type of work. Word doesn't do the best when it comes to retaining image quality when it's output as a PDF, even when you do use the Print to PDF option as I suggested. The only way you're going to be able to retain high quality output is to setup the graphic in Illustrator, save it as an Illustrator EPS, and then import that into Word. The image below shows the difference in quality between an eps and a png in Word.
EPS above and PNG below as it appears in Word at 100% zoom.
Same setup but at 500% zoom. While the PNG looks to be better quality than the EPS, Word doesn't render EPS files 100% accurately for screen which is why the PNG looks better.
Print to PDF from the Word file. Note that the EPS file looks great at a zoom level of 500% because it's using vectors while the PNG below it is pixelated because the printed version of the logo is accurate to the raster version.

  • Why does my high res photoshop image appear blurry when placed in InDesign and Exported as PDF?

    Hi there,
I have a problem I've been trying to solve for days but just can't find the answer anywhere on the internet.
I have a large, good quality photoshop file (2268 x 979 pixels, resolution 300 pixels per inch). When I place it into InDesign, the image appears OK (I've changed my display settings to HIGH) - I then resize it in InDesign to 10% and the file still looks great! Then, when I export it as PDF (high quality print) it looks blurry.
Does anybody know why? The strangest thing is, I've placed other photoshop images in the same InDesign file and they look crystal clear. It is just this one I am having trouble with. I've saved it in the same folder as the other pictures, I've tried placing it as psd. , jpg. , photoshop pdf, png. everything...
The image looks great in both photoshop and indesign, only when exported as pdf it looks awful.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    Many thanks in advance!
    Weronika

It's probably the extreme reduction -- you're throwing away 90% of the image pixels and interpolating, and then using jpeg compression on top.

  • How to convert Images in PDF to Microsoft Word text Properly

I have images in PDF and when I try to convert it to Microsoft word, the "check marks (wingdings)" turn into the letter "D" and the rest have a lot of misspelled words.

PDF page content export reflects the "under-the-hood" quality of how the PDF was made.
This of course is driven, in part, by what the authoring application was, how content was mastered and what process was used to actually paint content to the PDF page.
    http://talkingpdf.org/each-pdf-page-is-a-painting/
    So --- GIGO is operative.
    Goodstuff In = Goodstuff Out
    OR
    Garbage In = Garbage Out.
The export results tell one which of the above is in play.
As well, 'good' export of PDF actually has a prerequisite.
That is one needs a well-formed Tagged PDF.
Tagged PDF has two main design criteria -
    Support Accessible PDF.
Support export of PDF page content
    (See ISO 32000)
Having an ISO 14289 (PDF/UA) compliant PDF provides the "well-formed Tagged PDF".
Aside from ISO 3200 and ISO 14289 additional useful information is available at AIIM's web site.

    Be well...

  • Changing photo format from "microsoft word doc" to jpeg or other supported photoshop format

    hi --
on my windows XP (home edition) i have many photos stored under "my documents." one is categorized as a "microsoft word document," despite the fact that it is a photo (this may be b/c i was very unskilled at the computer when i scanned this photo in and thus selected the wrong format? i'm still not "skilled" but i'm doing better!).
when i tried to import this photo into my photoshop album (starter edition 3.0), i got a message that says "format not supported" or something similar. how do i change the format of the photo so that it will be accepted into my photoshop album? i haven't had any trouble with photos in other formats (jpeg, etc.).
thanks very much for any assistance -- susie margaret

On my other computer I have a different photo software. Once I download the pictures from the card reader and left click on the photo I want, it simply gives me a choice to save it in the computer, under MY PICTURE or desktop etc. in jpg.
When I left click on the picture on the adobe photoshop 2.0 starter edition, it gives many choices such as : copy, turn, edit, but not saving.
How do I save it on the computer to add it to a real estate home sells website for pictures on the home advertisement or virtual tour. Also when the pictures were read off of the card reader it popped out all of the pictures 120 of them. I only need 3 of them saved. Please tell me step by step . Thank you.

  • What would cause the printer to only print text in microsoft word but no images

i have a  hp deskjet D1320 printer, windows xp operating system, and i have always printed greeting cards from microsoft word by inserting an image and then printing it with the printer set to duplex(2sided)printing option, so after you print the image you flip the card around and then print the text on the inside of the card. now the printer does not print any images when i insert the image and then click print it just runs 1 piece of paper through the printer and stops but it will still print text just fine, does anyone know what would cause this type of an issue?

Lion does not support PowerPC coded applications. It sounds like the version you have are too old and were coded for PowerPC. Upgrade them.

  • Photoshop Images Appear Darker Online and in Microsoft Paint ---- Help Please!

Hello, I have been losing my mind over this problem: Whenever I save images in Photoshop CS6, they appear darker and with more contrast online. I am using Windows 7 OS and have calibrated the monitor to the best of my abilities
NOTE: My Proof Setup is set at sRGB and my Color Settings are set at sRGB aswell. I Convert Images to the sRGB profile, and when I Save For Web & Devices, I make sure JPEG, optimized, and convert to sRGB are selected. My Preview is set for Internet Standard (sRGB).
The images look good in Photoshop and in Windows Photo Viewer, but when I upload them to the internet, they look very dark and hard on the eyes. They look like this when I check them on a Mac. Another weird thing is that when I open the same images in Microsoft Paint, they appear dark aswell, whereas those images looked good in Windows Photo Viewer and Photoshop.
    Help would be much appreciated!

What version of Aperture are you using on your Tiger system?
I don't believe gamma settings changed from Tiger to Leopard (gamma 1.8) but they did change going to Snow Leopard (gamma 2.2). Since you're on Tiger, gamma may not be the reason for the difference, but it sounds plausible that you may have some settings using a different gamma in Tiger than on Leopard.

Hi Lily, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
A screenshot can capture almost anything you're viewing. Hold the command and shift keys down, then press the 4 key and release all keys. Hold down the mouse button and drag the cursor to the size/area of the image you want to capture. Release the mouse button and you've captured the image.
