Blurry picture on second monitor with MB Pro 13"

My wife has a brand new MB Pro 13". When we attach an external monitor to it (with a digital DVI cable), we have the following problem: When the computer's lid is closed, everything is fine, the picture is crisp. However, when we open the lid and both displays are turned on, the picture on the second monitor gets slightly blurred.
When I do the same setup with my 15" MB Pro, both computers have a crisp picture.

A blurry picture means that the resolution is incorrect. Go to the Display preference pane and make sure that the two monitors have the native resolution set properly. If the two monitors have different native resolutions, one will always be blurry in mirrored mode. If the displays are not mirrored, it's possible that one will reset to the wrong resolution on opening/closing the lid.

  • Is there a way to use windows 7 laptop as a second monitor with mac pro, fcpx

I have a Lenovo ideapad laptop it has a port the one seen in this picture is it possible to be used as a monitor ?? and how.?

Your mac (where fcpx is)  has to have some kind of secondary video out port.  And the laptop would need to have a matching video in port.  Without them, NO.
If you do have them, it's probably possible, but likely to be too much of a hassle to set up.
You might be able to over your network, (I do it between using my Apple devices) but with a PC you'd have to find appropriate software to do this, and again, probably more trouble than it's worth.

  • Can I use the HDMI out on a HP ALL IN ONE TOUCHSCREEN Desktop to connect a second monitor with HDMI

Can I use the HDMI out on a HP ALL IN ONE TOUCHSCREEN Desktop to connect a second monitor with HDMI  in without any additional  software or graphics adaptor.  I have a 520-1070
HP - 23" Touch-Screen TouchSmart All-In-One Computer - 8GB Memory - 2TB Hard Drive ? I used a HDMI to HDMI cable and the monitor was not  recognized.

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Desktop Computer. As previously stated your computer Doesn't have a HDMI output, instead it has a HDMI input. This is designed to let you connect a game console, a DVD/Bluray player, etc. to use as a monitor.
If you wish to conect a second monitor to your computer, you will need to use a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 or EVGA UV Plus+ UV19. Using an adapter like these with the touch feature of your computer may cause issues with pointer control and you may need to disable the touch feature to use "extended desktop".

  • Best way to add second monitor with HDMI input

I have a 24-inch Mid 2007 iMac.  Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo  Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM  Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB.  I need to add a second monitor, and while I'm at it, this new monitor will be an HDTV Monitor with an HDMI input.  My iMac has the original USB connections.  So I'm thinking an ethernet to HDMI adapter should do the trick.
Is this right?  If so, what supplier makes a good ethernet to HDMI adapter?

    Hi
I've always thought powered DVI (ADC) was introduced on the Gigabit Ethernet G4s, like your dual 500. It should be easy to check, as the graphics card has an extra power 'stub' which fits into an extra slot on the logic board, between the main AGP slot and the back of the computer. If all the gold connectors on the Radeon 9000 are seated, I think you must have powered DVI/ADC. If some are 'floating' above the logic board, you haven't.

  • Use 23" apple monitor as second monitor with 27" imac

I've just bought a 27" imac, and I want to connect the 23" apple monitor from my old system to it as a second monitor.
The 23" has a huge cable with firewire and usb connectors as well as a multipin connector. How can I link it up?

    Hello,
I have seen people use the expensive DVI-ADC converter with an MDP-> DVI cable.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Mac-A1006-DVI-to-ADC-Converter-LCD-Display-Adapter -w-Power-Cord-/330799049978?
Cheaper ADC to DVI converter won't work.
Then you need an MDP to DVI adapter...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/B/mini-displayport-to-dvi-adapter
DVI single link 60-Hz LCD can display a resolution of 1920 x 1200.

  • Best way to set up a second monitor with a Touchsmart

What's the best way to set up a second monitor for the Touchsmart IQ506?  Is a USB to VGA cable the only way and how well does that work (I've read that they can be buggy)?
Are they any recommendations for products and setting it up?

Leopard wont be out befor the second half of this year, sofar i cannot tell you what options you are going to have with the new system. Seems like with time machine is going to be a perfect backup for your whole system.
    10.4.x:
Software RAID you can do 0 -1:
To setup a RAID of your system you have to format the drive and setup the RAID type you want from the disk utility.
To have some security i suggest the "mirror" options but you are going to lose some perfomance, depending you want is your main job it mighn't be noticed.
    RAID 5:
This would be the nicest option but you need to buy an additional RAID controller. This is mostly used on servers and not on client computers.

  • [SOLVED] Extended monitor on a second monitor with Gnome

I was just trying gnome. I have a second monitor (connected to the VGA port). When I configure it as a second monitor extending my desktop, the windows freeze or move erratically and there is no possibility to click / write into them any longer. The same phenomenon appears if I configure the dual screen in gnome (via the settings menu) or if I use the command line xrandr ( xrandr --output LVDS1 --primary --mode 1280x800 --pos 0x0 --output VGA1 --pos -1284x-251 --mode 1280x1024 ). Exactly the same problem appears with Ubuntu 11.04 (tested from the live CD).
The strange fact is that the good old icewm works perfectly fine.
I am not sure this is relevant but here is the output of lspci relative to my graphic card:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
Edited: I mark this thread as solved since the answer of eldragon is convincing (but of course Gnome3 is still not working in my configuration)

well, your graphics card doesnt support textures bigger than 2048x2048. gnome3 is a composited desktop.
try setting one screen on top of the other one instead.

  • Second Monitor with new iMac

I'm confused.  I'm getting various answers in 'searching' what I need to know.
I just bought a new iMac... very happy.  BUT... how does a second monitor connnect to a 'thunderbolt' only iMac.
I read, "Thunderbolt accepts DVI"... then I read no, "You need the adapter".
I also read... a DVI is on the new iMacs... but I can't see one.  I've looked at the jpg's.  I've read that a DVI and Thunderbolt connection is one and the same... as far as the physical characteristics of the input -  insinuating that a DVI, mini, will work with Thunderbolt... true?
    Also...
Firewire to USB.  Confused here as well.  "Apple sells one"... that's one response. Also:  "They're available, don't always work".  My camcorder only has Fireware.
Hoping to hear some 'definitive' answers, if any exist. - JamesJM

Your kind of Stuck. You will need a TB to DVI adapter and a TB to FW adapter. Apple sells both of those and I think the newest iMac's have 2 TB ports. So you will be using both for your 2 devices.

  • Second Monitor with nVidia and Openbox

I am going to be picking up a second monitor this afternoon, and I am wondering how easy it will be to set up. Can I just run the nVidia xorg configure command and will that do most of it for me? I also noticed there are different methods of using 2 monitors. Is twinview the best or should I look at something else?

GUI works fine and i always run nvidia-settings as root.
    su -c 'nvidia-settings'
    or just apply a alias
    alias nvidia-settings='su -c 'nvidia-settings''
    Good Luck!

  • External monitor with MacBook Pro

I have a new Macbook Pro and have it hooked up to an external monitor and an USB Apple keyboard in my home office. How am I able to power the laptop on without opening the display and have it display only on my external display? When I am at home I'd like to use my external monitor and not my Macbook display.

Having the computer with the lid closed is dangerous cause even when just browsing the web with flash content it starts heating up and I've heard about casess of melted displays. Besides, the wifi strength is reduced and you can't use the keyboard and the trackpad.
So, for Lion users, it's possible to just use the external display with the lid open:
    1. In Mission Control Preferences activate one Hot Corner to put the display to sleep.
    2. Connect the external monitor and plug in the power source to your computer.
    3. Move the mouse to the Hot Corner to put the display to sleep.
    4. Close the lid and wait a few seconds.
    5. Open the lid and voila!
    Take care!

  • Can Use 'any' DVI monitor with Macbook Pro?

I just want a simple 20" or 22" monitor as a 2nd screen for my Macbook Pro 2008 Unibody
Can I use any monitor as long as it says "DVI"? and then get the mini-display > DVI adaptor to run it from the macbook?
For example any from this list here would be ok : http://computers.shop.ebay.co.uk/Desktop-PCs-Monitors-/171957/i.html?trkparms=65%253A2%257C66%253A1%257C39%253A1&rt=nc&_nkw=dvi%20monitor&_catref=1&_ dmpt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_Monitors&_sc=1&_sop=2&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14. l1581&pgn=2
Would these work ok? as i dont need the huge 27" Apple display as its out of my price range..

    pitchfork wrote:
Would a VGA monitor work with the mini display > VGA adaptor? or is this not as good quality?
It might, but VGA is an older analog standard and DVI is digital, so DVI should produce a better picture.
Sorry for all the questions! Also is DVI-D still compatible (whatever that means?)
According to Wikipedia, DVI-A is DVI to analog and DVI-D is full digital. So DVI-D is what you would be using anyway, if you were connecting to a DVI port on a monitor.

  • Dual Monitors with MacBook Pro fails using the battery

    Hi guys
I am sorry I am new with Apple and need a help from you guys. I have a MacBook Pro (retina) and connected two monitors to it, using Thunderbolt plugs.
It works fine when I close the lid and one monitor gets the Apple OS and the other I run Windows (VMWare). The problem starts when I remove the power
from it and run using the battery. Monitors got blank display and I have to plug the power back to the MAC, in order to get the OS back. I've tried any combination on the System Preferences/Display and Energy Saver. No go!
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

I had the same issue a few months ago when I tried connecting to external monitor, it is only possible to run external displays from a Macbook Pro while the power cable is attached, if you try and connect to external display without having the charger attached the external display will flash your desk top for a second and then your Macbook Pro will go to sleep.  Hence connect your charger every time you wish to connect to external display, its not a problem with your Macbook Pro, it's just the way of Apple. Hope that helps.
