Blurry / Pixelated R3D images in Premiere CC 2014
FYI, for anyone else (like me) who has experienced pixelation / blurry images when viewing certain R3D files on the timeline or in the source window in Premiere CC 2014: this issue can be solved by right clicking on the problem clip(s) in the timeline or in the project files panel, selecting "Source Settings," and clicking "Save to RMD." You'll see the image become fully sharp again immediately.
This blurriness happens even when the still and playback resolution settings are set to "Full" in the program and source windows, and it isn't fixed by adjusting sequence settings. It was still visible even after exporting to Quicktime files, which created a huge headache for us as we tried to figure out what we were doing wrong in our sequence or export settings. Turns out both of them were fine, it was just this "Save to RMD" glitch.
An Adobe staff member replied and said they will fix this in around a month: Red footage pixelated on Import into AE.
Update: Unfortunately it's not all good news.
Trying to render out to H.264 wiht Mercury CUDA still gives a crash rendering with the typically uninformative 'Unknown Error'. Software rendering does not, but it's very slow.
Miraizon Codec and the Premiere native Cineform also crash with 'unknown error'. However I can render out using Cineform Mov at 12bit using my registered copy of Cineform. Not fast, about 1/8 real time.

Images in Premiere = blurry
Hey,
So I've made a video in premiere, I get to the finish line and then I get hung up by the credits. I made some images in Photoshop to create the credits/logo, but when I import those into premiere they are blurry. This isn't so noticible with a photograph, but images with text look awful because the text is fuzzy.
I've been googling and it's plain others have had this problem but I've yet to find a solution:

I'm having trouble importing a clear still image, i have converted image to correct 'Pixel Aspect Ratio' but still is blurry image. For some reason when i left click on image in 'Program: Sequence 01' it becomes clear! Any ideas? Thanks

I am having the same problem importing a clear still image, especially with Photoshop type. Created an image 720 x 534 pixels in Photoshop. Added type with Garamond typeface and sizes from 3.5 point to 6 point in size. In Photoshop I can't use larger type because of the small image size. Looks great in Photoshop, but when imported into Premire Pro CS3, the type is terrible. Oddly, if you select the image by left clicking on the image in the monitor like you are going to manually move or scale it, the image becomes perfectly clear.
Sounds exactly like what I'm going through. I've tried importing bmps or photoshop files directly, as well as resizing my images to match the video frame size. I've also tried just rendering to see if it looks ok in the video, but it doesn't look any better.
I know that people do this kind of thing all the time, so if there's something I'm missing any help would be incredibly appreciated! Thanks.
Tools: Adobe Photoshop CS3 & Adobe Premiere CS3Anytime you work with an analog photograph and then digitize it the photo will become a little soft. If you use a digital photograph and then resize it in Photoshop and drop it into Premiere you will have this same problem of softening the image.
When I download a digital photograph into Photoshop and retouch it, I run it through a program called "NIK Sharpener Pro 2.0." I have used this program for several years and always use it before printing the photograph for a finished print. You can do the same thing with your photos by going to "filters" and then "sharpen", if it doesn't look sharp enough then do the same thing again. You can also sharpen your images in Premiere. In Premiere you can also sharpen your video if you find it a little out of focus or back forcused. Of course, it is best to shoot it sharp, but in a pinch it will help. -
PS CS 5 and images are blurry/pixelated.
Opened a clear image in QuickLook. Opened in PS CS5 to edit and it is blurry. PS is blurry/pixelated too - the tools, the font, etc. What can I do to fix this? I have had PS CS 5 for awhile now and have never had this problem before. Already tried re-opening, shutting down.
Well if I had I didn't know it. I checked under System Preferences > Hardware - Displays, but that option is not there. I searched around to try to find it, but did not. Can you point me in the direction of that setting? I am hoping that is all it is. Thank you.

Hi all,
I am trying to solve this issue that Adobe Representative Sarthak Girdhar has caused. Approximately three days ago, I used Adobe's online chat service to help get my trials of Premiere CC 2014 and After Effects 2014 working on my Windows 7 Ultimate operating system. I had a friend build the computer for me and it's fully specced out to handle 4K, 64-bit software, etc.
BEFORE I reached out to Mr. Girdhar, I updated my Windows 7 Ultimate operating system. It was only when that didn't work that I reached out to him!
To make a long story short, Mr. Girdhar had me connect via TeamViewer so that he could run some tests and what not. Since I am a sole-proprietor, I continued doing work on my laptop while I waited for him. Towards the end of the online session, he said he was going to do something to the drivers for my GPUs (I run dual ASUS GeForce GTX 780Ti 3GB GDDR5 GPU (x2) in SLI Configuration) and, the next thing I know, the screen is black. I know the computer is on and running because I can see the fans spinning and a number of lights on on the motherboard. As per the attached image, Mr. Girdhar claims that I need to contact Microsoft "and along with it install the updates for your OS because I saw that your OS didn’t even have Service Pack 1 installed."
What do I do now?!?!@Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

No AAC audio in Premiere CC 2014.1? [bug - resolved]
--- Original post for reference
I just updated to Premiere CC 2014.1 today.
I have a set of files that I regularly convert with Handbrake into MP4s with an AAC audio stream. I have had no problems at all with CS6, CC, and CC 2014. But now with CC 2014.1, I get no audio when I import the mp4 files.
The Project window says it is a "Video" file, not a "Movie" file. The associated icon in the Project window is also missing the waveform on it.
When I drag it onto the timeline, only the video track appears, as you'd expect. The video alone appears to play back correctly.
Restarting PP CC 2014.1 did not do anything.
I loaded up PP CS6 and imported the exact same MP4 file and it works as expected. Windows Media Player has no problem playing the video file with audio either.
What changed between CC 2014 and CC 2014.1 that could have caused this?
This is what MediaInfo reports for the file:

Reason: there is no Premiere Pro CC 2014.2, you probably mean 2014.1. If not, please PM me.Hi wired.au,
Thanks for this solution.
wired.au wrote:
OK ... after I finished my post below about how PP CC 2014.1 would not recognize the mono AAC audio track from my MP4s, I decided to produce the same MP4 again with Handbrake, with a stereo audio track instead.
It worked. After loading the stereo MP4, I reimported the original mono MP4 that didn't work (without restarting premiere or anything) and the mono audio is now recognized. Looks like there was a strange bug with Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 and mono AAC audio tracks, which got resolved after importing an MP4 with a stereo AAC track for the first time.
I thought I should leave this here just in case anyone else encounters the same thing.
Thanks,

Adobe Premiere CC 2014 causing MBPr Crash
I've been having issues for the past three days with Adobe Premiere CC 2014 causing an entire system crash. I'll be editing or trying to render, and the computer will freeze, no beach ball, no cursor. The screen freezes for a while, then goes to black, then will open up my login window after what seems like a restart although there is no apple logo or the startup sound.
This is happening on OSX 10.9.5 (I was delaying upgrading to Yosemite to avoid instability issues). I've done the most recent update of Premiere CC 2014 (as of 1/2/2015)
Here is the crash log from the Adobe Crash Daemon:

TOTAL 310.2MUPDATE...
So I uninstalled all apps. Upon restart, Windows notified me of some additional windows updates that didnt show up yesterday. I ran them and now should be up to date as i thought i had already done. Re installed Premiere 2014 and it seems to run! Not sure if it was the windows update or the re installation. All seems to be working at this point, but if anyone has any additional input that would be great as I am a little unsure of what the fix may have been.
Will post back here if I have any changes on this....
Thanks all! -
Why is my video pixelated when exporting from Premiere Pro?
Hi,
I'm a musician wanting to make some basic videos for YouTube. The videos will consist of an intro (logo, title etc) and audio playing over a still image which will last the duration of the song. I've edited the still image for the video within Photoshop (CS5.1). The image is of a woman screaming and is intentionally very dark. When I export this image from Photoshop, the quality is excellent. When I then import this image into Premiere Pro (CS5.5) and export as the finished video, the quality of the image is significantly reduced and is rather pixelated. After spending hours searching online and trying different settings to achieve the result I want, I've had no luck, and I'm now in desperate need of a professional opinion. Is it possible to get the same quality image within the exported video as I get from an exported Photoshop file?
Things I've tried:http://www.ashmathos.com/Musici
Photoshop - Exporting image using different file types - .tif , .PNG , .PSD etc
Premiere Pro - Exporting video using different formats - .FLV , Quicktime and MPEG4
- Changing the Capture format between DV and HDV
- Different presets - AVCHD, HDV, DV - PAL/NTSC etc
Both the image exported from Photoshop and the video are 1080p (square pixels)
An example of what I've explained can be found here:
http://www.ashmathos.com/Musician/Test
(The video can be found below the image)
To any responders,
Thank you! Can't you see how the video is pixelated? Mainly around the nose and forehead?
Nope. Looks fine when I watch it. -
Maximum dimensions of still images in Premiere CC
Hi, anybody know what is the new maximum dimensions of still images in Premiere CC?
Is it still 256 megapixel (like CS5, CS5.5, and CS6)?
Thanks for the answers!
Bye!
Brianenno.Yes still the same.
Do you want to import files that are larger then 32,768 pixels in e.g. either direction -
Premiere CC 2014 won't playback
Hi,
I am working on a piece utilizing mostly still images (a mixture of PNGs, JPGs, and TIFFs) which have been animated using the motion properties. This was originally a FCP7 project that I moved over to PPro via XML when my company migrated to the Adobe CC. Starting yesterday it won't play back at all; I will press the spacebar to start playback and the play button in the program monitor will flash to the stop icon, like it's trying to play, but then it doesn't do anything. Sometimes it won't even refresh the program monitor when I move the CTI around the sequence. I've tried restarting the program and the computer and a few times it would resume refreshing the program monitor when I move the CTI, but it still won't play back.
I am running Premiere Pro 2014.0.1 on a Mac Pro with OSX 10.8.5, 2 x 2.4 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon CPU, 14 GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro 4000 GPU with 2 GB VRAM.
Any help you can give will be most appreciated!
-HunterHi lastminutevp,
Thank you so much for the screenshot. please create a new sequence by making a right click on the Video and select "New Sequence from clip" option.
Check the playback in the new Sequence. If it works copy the complete timeline to the new sequence.
Thank you. -
Pictures getting blurry when scaled down in Premiere
I captured some movements on a website to create a howto.
After capturing I edit the clips in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3
In premiere the pictures get scaled down to a workable size, however after the scaling the pictures are very blurry, the texts get unreadable and the edges of picture also get messed up.
Which options do I have to set so that Premiere uses the full quality of the pictures?Well, since these are pictures, try scaling them down in Photoshop before bringing the images into Premiere. You can use the Bicubic method in Photoshop – or you can try the Bicubic (sharper) method, which may produce better results but can also cause 'ringing' artifacts.
If this is a large-ratio reduction (such as resizing a 3000x2000 image to 720x480 or something) you may find, as I have, that you can get better results with the following type of process:
If the image is 8-bits per channel, convert it to 16-bits per channel
apply a sharpening filter, such as Unsharp Mask with fairly strong settings (say, strength=200% ... radius=0.5 ... threshold=4)
scale the image to the desired size using the normal Bicubic method
convert the image to 8-bits per channel
This process can yield a sharper image with less ringing than the Bicubic (sharper) algorithm. The exact amount of sharpening you should apply will depend on the how much smaller than the original you are scaling the image (a larger ratio requires more sharpening). It also will vary with the content of the image, noise, contrast, etc. -- and personal taste.
Once you've found some settings you like, you can set up an action in Photoshop to automate this process a bit. -
In Premiere Pro 2014 imported audio skips and is out of sync - version 7.2.2 was ok
I have been importing AVCHD Content in to Premiere Pro 7.2.2 with no issues. Now that I have upgraded to Premiere Pro 2014, importing that same AVCHD footage causes the audio to skip and finish before the video causing it to be out of sync. I compared preferences between the 2 versions and all settings seem to be the same. This is something clearly different between these two versions of Premiere Pro. Anyone else have this issue?

Png blurry/pixelated after i used the vanishing point filter and save as a VSP file?
Hi,
Why are my png blurry/pixelated after i used the vanishing point filter and save as a VSP file? And i'm using a high res picture. I'm using PS CC.
I got some screenshots.
This the result of the png
Thanx in advanceAs I posted before, I would use it more if it had some of the functionality I need. I need to be able to change the opacity of the image I'm pasting so I can see EXACTLY where my overlaid image will register with the bottom image. VP seems to require a ton of processing and I wonder if maybe the software is handing off some of this work to the graphics card for calculating. Maybe this would explain that apparently not many people have run into an error that gets embedded in the file. Although my G5 is Apple stock, not super-modified.

Help! InDesign Digital Portolio PDF Blurry & Pixelated
Hello,
I am creating a digital portfolio of graphics (all 72dpi) to be viewed on screen (not printed), but when I explort a PDF and view at 100%, my images look blurry & pixelated. It looks like it may be explorting the document as 300dpi, but I am using the 'digital publishing' setting and have all compression setting turned off. I must be missing something really obvious, but I am scratching my head trying to figure this out. Anyone have any suggestions?
I am basically just taking my portfolio from my website and putting each graphic on a page in a PDF to be viewed on screen. Not intended for print.
Thanks so much!I think your problem is with using the images from you web site. InDesign must be resampling the images especially if they are resized in InDesign. If you have the original images at a higher resoluion, use those in InDesign.

Blurry/pixelated icons at random in Finder windows 02 (Not Solving Yet)
Since the problem in the old topic (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2132399&start=0&tstart=0), I have started new one.
the Problem is:
"I'm seeing a lot of blurry icons in the Finder, though, seemingly at random. I'll open a window and about half the icons will be essentially large versions of the 16x16 icon, rather than sharp icons at the appropriate size. Changing the icon size via the new slider just enlarges the blurry icon, it doesn't increase the resolution." (Eric Westby)
This is really the most disappointing non response issue I have ever seen by Apple. I hope from Apple to address this issue.
Thanks.Problem. I am experiencing problems with suddenly blurred custom Finder icons as well.
Trigger. So far as I can tell, this happened when Software Update ran on my computer this afternoon. If I recall correctly, it updated to the latest XCode and iTunes versions pushed out this week. When it was finished, it gave me the message, "Blah blah blah your installation has finished" with an Okay button. The Finder window with my film library was open and in full view with nice, not-blurry icons. I clicked Okay to dismiss Software Update and the instant I did that it quit the Finder, must have been to rebuild something that was edited during the installation. All the open windows went away, the Finder restarted and its windows reopened. Wouldn't you know it, every single icon I had edited in the last day or three, +but none of the others+, was a pixellated blob.
Details. This is a single folder with rips of my DVD collection made using Handbrake, one folder per film, for a total of about 400 folders.
For each folder, I locate an image of the theater poster using Google's image search and create an icon using that image. The process I use is to open the image in Preview, ensure it is 800 px tall or less, then Select All > Copy to the Clipboard. Then I go to the Finder and do a Get Info > Tab > Paste for the folder.
Screenshot
My screenshot shows the sort of blurry pixellation I am getting, as seen on the icon for "Grand Central Murder (1942)" and "Graduate, The (1967) Nichols". All the rest look sharp and nice, they way they usually all do.
Guesses. The only thing I can think of is that as you paste custom icons, the Finder is just dropping that information in a cache somewhere. It will write it out properly if it gets the time, but if the system is always telling it "not now, I'm busy" it will put it off as a low priority task. If something else then tells the Finder to restart, all those changes are lost because the cache gets hosed down when the Finder reboots. It's only a guess, but it's the best I've got. -
How can I create a stop animation video with single images in Premiere Pro?
Let me start off by saying I am 100% new to pretty much all Adobe software as of about 3 weeks ago. I have been doing a lot of googling these past few weeks. With that said, I will do my best to explain my question.
I am making a stop motion animated video. I am not using several photos to create the look, but rather single photoshopped images that I have deleted the backgrounds out of. Basically the video is single charms "crawling" or flying in individually from off screen into a circle, there is a story explaining what each charm means. I started in After Effects, but had issues with audio... am I right in my understanding that you cannot preview the audio unless you use the preview feature? So my solution was playing a guessing game, rendering/exporting, importing it to Premiere Pro, taking notes and then heading back to After Effects to try to re-do the timing. Obviously this was not working too well.
Then after doing more googling and clicking around I figured out you could layer images in Premier Pro and make them move just as you would in After Effects, which is great! There are two things hanging me up...
1. I used the wiggle effect in After Effects. For the life of me I cannot find or figure out an effect or preset similar to this in Premiere Pro. Is there such a thing? Or do I have to create rotation keyframes? (I think I'm using keyframes correctly).
2. Making the images stop-motiony and not smooth.
My question is... any suggestions on how to re-create the wiggle effect easily in Premiere Pro? Or is there away to create the effect in After Effects and then import the image into Premiere Pro and still be able to change the position and timing?
Please help! My deadline is tomorrow by the end of the work day!
Please forgive me if these are silly questions... go easy on me, I'm soo new! Thanks in advance! Thanks so much for the reply!
I read that... but it doesn't preview the whole thing? It only previews a few seconds and then loops. I tried to figure out how to change the preview settings, but I can't seem to get it to work.
