Blurry/Scanlines where ever there's motion when rendered as Windows Media

Hi,
I'm using PrE 9 and trying to save/share/render my clips as Windows Media -- as it seems to have the best compression without sacrificing video quality too much.
However, no matter what I set the quality settings to, I get motion blur - more like horizontal scan lines where ever there is motion. If there's no motion, quality is fine. It only shows up, when there's motion e.g. hand gestures or head movements produce it and it's quite visible.
If I use the MPEG setting, I get perfect quality. Clearly it's a setting somewhere in the WMV preset. I used the HD 720p 30 preset to export my clip.
Any idea what might be causing these blurry scan lines where there's motion?
P.S. My footage is shot as 1080i using my Canon Vixia HF200 camcorder.
Thanks,
Sam

It's the HD 720p 30 setting. Exactly what oRBIT1975 said.
I rendered the same project as WMV at different settings. If I export it at HD720p, I have this issue. I also rendered it as WMV at 1920 x 1080 and the artifacts were gone.
I captured the footage using my Canon Vixia HF200 at 1920x1080, 24Mbps quality and 30 fps (PF30). So I figured HD720p 30 would be a nice way to downsize the footage. I really want to be able to bring the size down because my videos are for web and don't need the full HD size or the huge file size that comes with it.
One idea is to capture my footage at HD 720 but I'm old school and I always try to keep my footage at highest possible quality because I can't predict what I'll do with them in the future e.g. what if I want to make DVDs out of them. So I really want to keep my "input" files at the highest possible quality I can, given my current equipment.
I do want to get to the bottom of this issue. Looks like lowering the frame size to 1280 x 720 is producing these interlace artifacts because I keep everything else the same. Is there a way to fix this issue and still export WMV's or will I simply have to export them as MPEGs because MPEG at 1280x720 produces nice results.
Thank you all for your help.

Regardless, Apple does not lock devices, carriers do.

  • When rendering with Adobe Media Encoder, the sound only starts playing at 1 minute and 20 seconds

So I have this problem: I have a video which is an hour long and when I try to render it via AME the result will have the audio of the video starting at around the 1 minute 20 mark. I render to the YouTube 1080p preset.
What I have tried to fix this is:
    - use .wav instead of .mp3 (didn't work)
    - use After Effects itself to render the video (this worked)
    - change the video start time to 1 minute and 20 seconds and then made AME start the render at that (didn't work)
    - re-render (didn't work even on different presets)
It's also not my audio file because I've tried rendering it with the audio starting at 1:20 and then the track was playing from the start.
The video contains one audio track and one video and the project file is in After Effects.
Is my AME bugged or am I doing something terrible wrong?
Hope to hear from you guys.
PS: I really don't want to render via After Effects, due to file size.

I'm having a very similar problem. I just purchased a larger SD card thinking it was the card but it's definitely Media Encoder.
Mine is also crashing in the middle of renders and causing my computer to crawl.

  • AE CC 2014 Corrupted and Glitched frames when rendering to Quicktime

Ever since upgrading to the newest version of After Effects, I've been getting corrupted and glitched frames when rendering videos with a Quicktime holder.  My normal workflow is rendering the video straight out of AE, but it also happens when rendering with Adobe Media Encoder, or even while using the "BG Renderer" script for AE that renders from the terminal.  It happens whether I have multiprocessing enabled or not.
The corruption differs depending on what codec I'm using, but in the Cineform Codec it shows up as green frames:
On DNxHD they show up as Red frames (don't have a screencap of this one but you get the idea).
Using the QT Animation Codec they show up as static or distortion:
I have not found a codec that does not become corrupted when encased in the QT holder.  Image sequences render out fine, and Cineform with an AVI holder renders out fine.
Even more strangely, I can fix the problem if I link the AE composition to Premiere, then render the QT file out through Premiere itself.  The fact that Premiere calls and renders the Comp fine but AE does not, makes me think this is a bug in AE's treatment of Quicktime rather then a driver/system incompatibility on my end.  But I'm certainly willing to try any suggestions the community might have for me =]

  • Imported video has strange squiggly effect when there is motion

    Hey everyone,
I am trying to edit and put together a video from our honeymoon. I am brand new to macs, and the whole editing business. Unfortunately I have a Samsung SC-MX10 camcorder which is dreadful as far as mac compatibility goes. According to my research, it saves video in the MPEG-4 format using the SEDG codec.
So I finally was able to get all the files onto my mac (iMovie doesn't sync with the camcorder) and they are all .avi files. I downloaded Perian and I am able to view the files with quicktime. However, getting them into iMovie was a different story.
With much more research online, I downloaded QTAmateur which is supposedly a free version of QuickTime Pro, and I have several video converting options available. Among the list, I chose to convert them to quicktime videos. When I open up these converted files in QuickTime, they work perfectly. HOWEVER, when I import them to iMovie, they suddenly have this strange "squiggly" look whenever there is motion in the video. It gets really bad, and i don't want to have this in my final product. Does anyone know why it is doing this, or how I can fix it?
If anyone can figure this out it would be AMAZING!
    THANKS!

That's DV video for you - it runs at 13GB per hour. Your cam highly compresses the video to the MPEG4 format, which actually is detrimental to the quality of the video image.
Onu Marx stated that iMovie HD would give you better results. I think he meant to say iMovie HD6 and you may see some difference, as 08 uses single field processing, which eliminates every other line in a frame, whereas HD6 uses the whole frame. iMovie HD6 is a free download for owners of iLfe 08:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/iMovieHD6
If you are unhappy with all this extra work you need to do to edit from the Samsung, I suggest you look for a new cam, preferably a miniDV tape cam with firewire, which will work seemlessly with all iMovie versions and give you great lossless DV right off the bat.
With reference to your question - "Is there no other format . . . NO.

  • Video blurry with motion when trying to create WMV video to share

    I have a Sony HDR-cx350.  I am currently using PE 9.    In the past using my standard def camcorder and PE 7.0 when I wanted to share a video for online I would usually select "share - windows media" and use the LAN preset to create a WMV file that I would upload to photoshop.com and share with friends.    Now with new camcorder and PE 9.0 using these setting any motion in the video become blurry/jagged.    The only way to improve on this is to go into the advanced settings and increase the average video bitrate setting which make the file get large fast.  I dot believe I am using the best project presets to use because PE changes it for me.  But based on MEDIA info below maybe you can tell me what the best project presets would be.    Please HELP  my son's football season is starting soon and the coaches depend on me to shoot game film to share with the coaches.  TIA  FILE INFO using MEDIA INFO PROGRAM  CompleteName                     :es\DCL video 2011\20110615103137.m2ts Format                           : BDAV Format/Info                      : Blu-ray Video FileSize/String                  : 71.7 MiB Duration/String                  : 53s 14ms OverallBitRate/String            : 11.3 Mbps OverallBitRate_Maximum/String    : 18.0 Mbps  Video ID/String                        : 4113 (0x1011) MenuID/String                    : 1 (0x1) Format                           : AVC Format/Info                      : Advanced Video Codec Format_Profile                   : [email protected] Format_Settings_CABAC/String     : Yes Format_Settings_RefFrames/String : 2 frames Format_Settings_GOP              : M=1, N=30 CodecID                          : 27 Duration/String                  : 52s 986ms BitRate_Mode/String              : Variable BitRate/String                   : 10.6 Mbps BitRate_Maximum/String           : 16.0 Mbps Width/String                     : 1 440 pixels Height/String                    : 1 080 pixels DisplayAspectRatio/String        : 16:9 FrameRate/String                 : 29.970 fps ColorSpace                       : YUV ChromaSubsampling                : 4:2:0 BitDepth/String                  : 8 bits ScanType/String                  : Interlaced ScanOrder/String                 : Top Field First Bits-(Pixel*Frame)               : 0.228 StreamSize/String                : 67.1 MiB (94%)  Audio ID/String                        : 4352 (0x1100) MenuID/String                    : 1 (0x1) Format                           : AC-3 Format/Info                      : Audio Coding 3 Format_Settings_ModeExtension    : CM (complete main) CodecID                          : 129 Duration/String                  : 53s 56ms BitRate_Mode/String              : Constant BitRate/String                   : 256 Kbps Channel(s)/String                : 2 channels ChannelPositions                 : Front: L R SamplingRate/String              : 48.0 KHz BitDepth/String                  : 16 bits Compression_Mode/String          : Lossy Video_Delay/String               : -67ms StreamSize/String                : 1.62 MiB (2%)  Text ID/String                        : 4608 (0x1200) MenuID/String                    : 1 (0x1) Format                           : PGS CodecID                          : 144 Duration/String                  : 52s 487ms Video_Delay/String               : -67ms

I feel your pain. The Adobe forum software does some odd "stuff" with formatting, and once that happens, there seems to be nothing to do about it. I have been caught in that "trick bag," more times, than I can count.
As for Encoding to WMV, Adobe programs, are not known to do a good job of this, and that is both PrE and PrPro. For years, many users recommended Windows Media Encoder, which was free from MS, and to use that, one would Export/Share to an intermediate file, then use WME to do the WMV Encode. MS discontinued the old WME, but one user (Neale, IIRC) found a replacement. Unfortunately, I do not recall the name, but it was something like MicroSoft Media Encoder Live, or similar. That user tested the new, replacement utility, and thought that it also did a much better job, than PrE/PrPro.
Still, quality, and especially with motion (either subject, or camera) needs a good Bit-Rate to produce good results, however at the expense of large files. As all Encoders are not created equal, the best that one can do is to find one, that does a good job, and then experiment with the Bit-Rate to get highest quality at a manageable file size. This is the same "balancing act," that we all fight with.
Good luck, and maybe those, with better memories, can come up with the name of the MS WMV Encoder.

  • Motion sequence - when rendered in FCP goes blurry.example picture in post

    Im having a strange problem.
Im creating a 20 sec intro graphic sequence in Motion in the PAL format to go into my FCP sequence. When I export and bring into FCP - the video as expected is unrendered and the picture looks sharp-like it did in Motion. However - when I render - it becomes a little blurry (nice technical term...)...
Ive tried using all 3 field dominance settings on Export from Motion - no difference...
When I watch the Intro graphic .mov in the viewer outside the sequence - it looks good quality as it did...so how come when rendering it is loosing so much?
(size increased for emphasis) Left is Outside of sequence - Right is Rendered in Sequence

  • IMovie audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !

iMovie 11  audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !
I have created a project where I have a montage of photos and video clips edited together with music under. Some audio portions of the video files are being muted in some areas and those portions are being heard in another part of the project. This is not for all video clips only certain ones.
The project plays fine in the timeline, but when I render the project thru iTunes or Media Browser, this is when the project goes corrupt.
I tried detaching the Audio from the video clips and this somewhat worked, but the original problem still exists with certain audio still being heard where it's not supposed to be.

    I have a fix - or rather, a workaround.
WARNING: It is lengthy, but still far better than starting a new project from scratch.
I had this same issue and none of my transitions/clips were at custom speeds, nor did I have anything else weird going on. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do within iMovie to fix this, at least there wasn't for me. iMovie is BY FAR the buggiest software I have ever used and if you haven't already spent hours slaving away on a project, you are so much better off using just about anything else to edit your video.
...But let's assume you have already spent many hours working on your project and you don't want to start all over. Well then, you have at least one option.
It's a pain in the neck, but it's infinitely better than restarting your project from scratch.
    This will require:
A software called Soundflower (which is free) and some kind of audio editing software (I use Logic, but really any should work).
1.) You're going to need to export your video with the messed up audio. Typically if you're audio is messing up, you're video is at least usually working just fine (at least it always does for me).
2.) You're going to need to open that video in your audio software and import only the audio. If your software doesn't give you this option, then you're going to need to record the audio from your video using the audio software and Soundflower. You can find tutorials on how to do this, but it's honestly pretty straightforward once you start playing around with you Mac's audio I/O settings. Remember to have your computer's volume all the way up when doing this.
3.) Watch/listen to your video and make notes of where the audio errors occur. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND writing down times too,  as they will be extremely helpful later.
4.) Now were going to rip some working audio from the iMovie project itself. Go back into your iMovie project and only play back audio while in the edit window for this step. Do NOT play your project back in full screen.
This part is key: if you try to play back your project from the beginning the audio will usually still mess up. So, what you're gonna have to do is go back on your edit window timeline right before these errors occur and play that specific clip back while recording this working audio with Soundflower and your audio software. Essentially we're only recording the parts of the audio where these errors occur, so try to do this in order if you can. Try to leave several seconds of audio in before the error - that way we can use it as reference when we construct our new audio track.
5.) Now in your audio software you should have your original error-filled audio track and the new clips that we just captured. This part can be painstaking if you're not familiar with audio editing softwares, but as you'll learn, it's really not that hard.
You're going to look at your original audio track and compare it to your new working audio clips. You should be able to notice where those new clips are supposed to go by looking at the identical (or close to identical) waveform shapes in your original audio track. The two should correspond with one another. If you don't understand what I mean right now, you will when you start playing around with the audio. This is why marking times is very important.
Take your new clips and split them up if you haven't already, that way you can drag them around and edit them separately from one another. Essentially your going to line these new clips up with original and then replace the original parts with new ones.
We need to get this as precise as possible, so start off by getting them as close as you can with your naked eye, and then use a zoom tool to zoom in as much as possible so that you can get them lined up PERFECTLY, or at least extremely close. In some softwares you can just drag these new clips on top of the old track, but most of the time you will need to actually cut out the old piece and replace it with the new one. In doing this, zoom in and make sure that you are NOT cutting out a bigger space than your new clip will fill - otherwise you will have small gaps in your audio.
VERY IMPORTANT: Also make sure that this new audio track starts at the EXACT SAME time as your original - otherwise your new audio will be out of sync.
I know this part can really suck if you're not used to audio editing, but at this point, there is little other choice.
6.) Once you are done with this, export your newly pieced together audio track.
7.) Now open iMovie and create a NEW project. Re-import the video that you exported earlier that has the messed up audio. This might take a while, so just be patient.
8.) Then right click the clip and select "Detach Audio". This will do just that - allowing you to edit the audio separately from the video. Now delete this audio.
9.) Now, import the new, perfect audio track that we just made and make sure that it starts at the start of the project. Make sure it's in sync and that everything works.
Now just export your new video with the working audio and you should be done. Since we have given iMovie the audio with no editing actually being done in iMovie, it does not have to generate its own audio now and you should have absolutely no errors now - unless there is some that you forgot to take out earlier.
    YOU'RE FINALLY DONE!!!
I know this entire process *****, but if you're that far into your project, there is little else that you can do. Now you've learned your lesson:
    DON'T USE IMOVIE EVER AGAIN.
    I hope this helped!

  • Hi  I have just been given a macbook 13'' A1181 it has a brocken screen so I have linked to my dell screen and all I  get is my sons old screen saver and the arrow but cannot open anything where  ever I click. Any suggestions please my first apple

hi I have been given my sons macbook 13'' A1181 it has a brocken screen so I have linked it to my dell screen and only get his old screen saver and the arrow but where ever I click nothing opens up It is my first time with an apple computer could anybody advise?

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. In System Preferences>Display there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box.

The Retrospect you used way back when is no longer around. The company was sold and that company produced a new version of Retrospect - Retrospect 8.x
So, as you've been told, you would have to be running a Tiger system with an old version of Retrospect software (5.x or 6.x - you would need to know) assuming you can find the software.
As best I can remember you cannot extract files from a Retrospect backup except using the software since Retrospect did not normally make a file by file backup rather it created an archive of the files in the backup. I'm assuming that the EMC/Retrospect people have told you that old Retrospect backups are not accessible by Retrospect 8.x?

  • Can I tell Acrobat where to automatically create forms when scanning in many of the same document?

The automatic form creator isnt very good at recognizing where I want text forms when I scan in this particular paper form. I have lots of these paper forms that look the same and am trying to convert each of them into a editable digital copy. Is there a way to help acrobat know where i want the text forms to be on the following scans without manually making the text forms everytime?

    No, but you can:
    - Use a script to create the fields in pre-defined locations
    - Create them once and then copy them over (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V) to over files
    - Create them once and then use the Replace Pages function to other files.
