Blurry Screen on lower resolutions

I've recently got a ThinkPad T61p from work, and its a great machine, however the native screen resolution comes at 1920 x 1200 which is too much for my eyes ...
whenever I change the resolution to a lower value the screen becomes blurry!
I searched the net but found nothing that could help, i upgraded the nvidia drivers but that didn't do much good either ...
I noticed something though ... in the nvidia control panel, under Display -> Change flat panel scaling
the "use my display's built in scaling" option is grayed out, when i tried to disable scaling all together, the blurryness was gone, but now of course the screen is not filling the display ...
usually there is a scaling option in the system bios so i restarted and went into the bios but found nothing there either ...
does anybody have the T61p with the same probelm ? any known fix ?

the only option in this case aside to get an external monitor, is change the DPI for text in your computer. For Windows Vista, In the desktop, right click and select 'Personlization option', in the new window, choose in the left panel, the 'Adjust font size (DPI)' and chose 120 DPI instead 96, that means that the text is going to be greather and easy to read but in your current resolution still will be a smal text. you can try to mix this option with the 1680 X 1050 resolution or 1440 X 900 to see if one adjust better to your needs. I hope it's useful.

  • GT60 3K IPS black borders around the screen on lower resolutions

I've got an MSI GT60 with 3K IPS display and GF880M and although it's a very powerful machine it sometimes isn't fast enough to play the games with the native resolution on high details, therefore in several games I wanted to lower the resolution to get a better experience. However this is where I have a problem, because if I change the resolution in-game what usually happens (80% of the games I've tried) is the screen is getting smaller and I have back borders around it. This is kind of frustrating and I wanted to ask if you know any way of sorting out this issue. I'd like to be able to play a game at 1080P for example but have it stretched to the whole screen.
Some of the games I've observed this behaviour:
    1. L.A. Noire
    2. Assassin's Creed: Black Flag
    3. Far Cry 3
    4. Max Payne 3
I've tried lowering the Windows resolution prior to opening the game but it makes no difference. I've also looked at the nVidia Control Panel because some of the versions of the drivers had the option to stretch lower resolution to full screen but in the latest one I couldn't find it.
As the result of this I'm feeling a little frustrated that although the notebook itself is one of the most powerful ones available on the market I cannot play it the way I wanted and I begin to think paying extra for the 3K display was a mistake a I should've gone with the 1080P version. But I hope there's a fix for this issue.

I've found a workaround but it's very annoying as I have to apply it everytime I launch a game (or if I accidently alt-tab back to windows desktop).
    1. Run the game and let it launch with the back borders
    2. Ctrl+Alt+Del and go to desktop (don't Alt-Tab, it won't work)
    3. Open Intel Graphics properties, change the resolution to 3k, apply changes, than change it back to 1080P or whichever you like and mark the Desktop Stretching option. Apply changes.
    4. Back to the game and the black borders should now be gone.
It's a workaround, not a solution. I'd really like that MSI, nVidia or whoever is responsible for this behavior find a permament fix.

  • How to change the resolution on my Boot & Login Screen, There low resolution ?

Hi guys, Ok the situation I have is my Boot & Login Screen are at a Low resolution something like a 640 X 480, were my Desktop resolution is at 1280 X 1024, at 75 Hz, both of these were right until I updated from OSX 10.5.6 to OSX 10.5.8; from there on I have been getting this low resolution screen, an they are driving me crazy, is there any way to put them back as they were? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. 73's

Hi, no idea how to cure it, but have noticed that it sometimes corrects itself, or after doing I don't know what... perhaps toggling the Display res a few ties until it "feels" safe about a certain rez???

Thanks for the advise. I was about to follow your instructions. Then came along another advise which seems to be less risky.
glad you fixed it but FYI resetting PRAM is NOT a risky operation. it's quite on par with just turning the computer off/on. it's an absolutely standard troubleshooting procedure which carries zero risk.
    That solved the problem
However, I'm thankful for your effort in trying to help me. And I'll remember that the dvd-region setting will remain after a reset.
    Thanks again

  • MBP Retina Filevault login screen is low resolution all of sudden

Hey guys, so I did the few software updates today to get ready for Mountain Lion and I started to notice that all of a sudden now my filevault enabled login screen (the one that's all grey and you see before even booting up the operating system) is in low resolution! Since i've had my MBPr it's always been in glorious retina resolution, and now it's all low res.
Anybody else encountered this problem or know of any fix? I'd appreciate it!
    Best,
    Oliver

I've got the same problem on mine after changing the resolution several times. I've just applied 10.8.2 but still have the same issue.
Havent found anybody else seeing the same thing apart from here. I'm going to try de-crypting the Mac and encrypting again to see if that fixes it. There must be some way to change it though.

  • Screen recording - recording part of the screen or low resolution

I want to record part of the screen in quick time x, has anybody found a way to do this?
As a work-around, I tried reducing the screen resolution to 640x480 or 800x600 but the recorder doesn't seem to pick anything up at this resolution. After recording nothing happens then when i switch back to full resolution i get the message:
*Recording failed because no data was received.*
Make sure that the media input source is turned on and playing.

I am just trying to figure out how to record a screen shot, i dont care if its full or part screen, any advice for me?
Not sure if there is any difference between OS 10.6.1 and 10.6.2, but all I did was select the "New Screen Recording" File menu option and press the record button (circle with red dot in center) to make a test recording which was automatically saved in the Movies folder when the "stop recoding" key shortcut sequence was pressed. As to SnapzProX, it is a commercial program which you can purchase. It allows fullscreen/partial screen recordings and can be set up to record a fixed area of the screen or a fixed size portion of the screen area which follows the cursor around the screen.

  • IPhoto 11 low resolution photo in full screen mode

In the 09 version a low resolution picture is shown full on the screen, but can be a little bit blurry.
In the 11 version the low resolution picture is shown small. How can we change that?

I mean that a low resolution picture is shown as a small picture and can not be viewed as a large picture. In the old version a low or high resolution was shown the same. If it was a low resolution picture it would be a bit more blur. Now the picture is small and a higher resolution picture is shown full screen.
    Is this better?

  • The problem that app icons have a low resolution in Launchpad Screen

    Here is a screenshot.
In Macbook pro with retina display, app icon often have a low resolution in Launchpad screen.
If the app install again after restarting the mac, the app icon in launchpad screen has normal resolution.
Do anyone know how to resove this problem?

Had this problem from time to time, at random, with Lion. After Mountain Lion it is a lot worse... many icons, non only personalized but also system icons, look blurry and pixelated...
I have done EVERYTHING I read on the many threads about this issue here at apple, as well as on other sites, but nothing helped... (removed thumbnails.data, delete caches, deleter .DS_store files, finder preferences, etc. etc. etc.).
This happens on both my macs, an iMac 2011 and a MacBookPro 2010...
How is it possible to have this BUG since the last 3 version of the OS, with Apple not solving the problem but rather getting worse?

  • HT1044 Low resolution warning in iPhoto 09 but on screen looks great

    Hi:
I'm working with Snow Leopard and iPhoto 09.  I'm building a book and have added photos.  Some of the photos show a low resolution warning.
I'd like to keep them at the size shown in the book.  I've increased the zoom on the pages and the photos look crisp and clean.  Should I be concerned
about the low res icon then?
OR where do I find dpi info and how do I increase it?
    Thanks everyone!
    Terri
Here's a sample of the pic:
    file://localhost/Users/terrimcreynolds/Pictures/iPhoto%20Library/Originals/2008/ R.%20Back%20to%20Venice/R_623.bmp

1 - yes you should be concerned - that is why there is a warning
2 - screens display images at 72 DPI - printing requires at least 150 DPI and 300 API is better
3 - you can not "increase DPI" since it is a mathmatical caculation - Dots Per Inch - Dots (pixels) divided by inches
4 - the solution is to use another photo or to reduce the "zoom" so that the photo does not have a warning
    5 -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

  • Illustrator CC 2014 documents won't go full screen (and the UI is extremely low resolution)

Illustrator CC 2014 does not seem to be running correctly.  My documents will not go full screen.  As you can see, there is a huge white gap surrounding the entire document.  I cannot grab the corners or sides to stretch it to full width.  On top of this, the whole interface is blown up and looks very low resolution.
Compare this to a screen shot of the previous version on the same computer:
The document will expand to the full width available and the the UI looks much better.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I am using Windows 8.1

Since you still haven't got your data from the drive(s). I would advise performing a Windows installation without formatting the drive... I don't like this solution but at this stage you have probably tried everything else.
Use a Windows 7 Reinstallation DVD when installing ensure you select...
Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)
If you do not select any of the drive options and simply highlight the largest partition and select next:
Windows will dump all the old installation files in the Windows.old folder

  • Startup Screen at very low resolution

When ever I turn on my macbook pro (late 2011) the start up screen with the white background and the apple logo is at a very low resolution and has black bars on eithier side of the screen. Then when it switches from that to the login screen the transition between the two screens is very pixelated. Then when it gets to the login screen everything is perfectly fine. How do I fix this? Thanks.

    Hello Reagan,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. The easiest way to solve the problem, is to reset the NVRAM, the following article will give information on what it is and how to go through that process.
    About NVRAM and PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.
