Blurry tiff's!

Hello there, wondered if anyone has ideas why my tiff images are blurry on dvd after burn, but crystal on the idvd preview?
The images are part of the background menu.
Im using idvd5, the theme is 'Reveal' from 4.0.
There is also a .mov playing in the back too.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your time in advanced!
D

Are you viewing the burned DVD on your computer, or on a television screen? DVD is, after all, designed for TV viewing ... much lower resolution than your computer monitor. And DVD format is compressed, so it does not have all of the information that was part of the original source material.

  • Blurry Tiff images

    Hi,
As a new Motion user I'm having some issues with my first project. I've used After Effects since version 2-3 so I know my way around similar apps.
I've imported an uncompressed movie from FCP5.0.4 and I need to overlay a series of 6 images starting every 60 seconds with each image staying visible for 5 seconds. All sounds easy and is pretty easy except the tiff images are not sharp.
Each original tiff has a 1 pixel white border which turns to a 2-3pixel blurred grey border when I bring them into Motion 2.0.1 If I open them in the viewer or Quicktime they are perfectly sharp. I've turned off field rendering, have full resolution on etc. But just can't get the images as sharp as they should be.
The underlying movie is perfect though. Any help would be most appreciated.
    Matt

Check the center position. If you just dropped it in place, you may be between pixels. Your TIFFs will be rasterized in Motion using a completely different function than AE uses. And you really should try to output to your target media and evaluate the movie carefully there. You may just be seeing artifacts created by your graphics card.
Wish I had a definite answer for you, hopefully one of the wonks will drop by within a few hours. Hope you get it fixed, Motion is really confusing for AE users.

  • Blurry TIFFs - what's going on???

    Hello,
I have a problem that was mentioned here already (Re: Tiffs blurred when viewed in CS5 but clear in windows paint?), but the solution to set the Cache to 1 does not work on my machine (2012 iMac 27" running Mavericks and Windows 7).
    The issue is the following:
    1) I develop my RAW files in Nikon software (ViewNX, Capture NX-D or PicturePerfect) and the picture looks perfectly sharp on the screen as shown here (at 25% magnification):
    2) I then export the picture as TIFF and when I open it in Photoshop, Lightroom, or Capture NX-D, it looks blurred/soft as shown here (again at 25% magnification):
Only when I look at the RAW rendering and the TIFF rendering at 100%, do the two files look the same. I.e. somehow Photoshop, Lightroom, Capture NX-D, etc. do not retain the sharpness when zooming out, which is annoying, since I want to be able to judge my edits when the picture fits the screen and not when I zoom in to 100%
    3) Funny enough, when I load the TIFF file into MS Paint, the sharpness is retained when zooming out to 25% (ignore the color shift):
    4) Finally, this is the rendering in Photoshop when I set the Performance > Cache Level to 1, as suggested in the help topic mentioned above, i.e. it's pixelated and unusable:
I have played around with other Cache Levels (2,3) and any of the other Performance settings, but none alleviated the problem.
So, does anyone understand why the sharpness of TIFF files is not retained when zooming out and does anyone have a solution? I always think that my pictures are not sharp enough when working on them in Photoshop, when in fact they should be.
Thanks for any help in advance!
    PS: Please, don't tell me:
    1) I should develop my pictures in Lightroom
    2) I should do my sharpening in Photoshop
Lightroom cannot get the colors as right as the Nikon software does and the sharpening in Photoshop is worse than the sharpening I can achieve in the Nikon RAW converters whatever Photoshop sharpening method I use (it creates more noise and looks less natural).

Yes, the RAW and the TIFF files pretty much look the same at 100%:
    RAW 100%
    TIFF 100%
The problem is that the Photoshop rendering at 25% looks decidedly soft given the sharpness that is there at 100%. And even if I apply additional sharpening in Photoshop, the rendering never looks as good and natural as the rendering in the RAW converter or even MS Paint at 25%. I.e. if you are right and the RAW converter or MS Paint applies additional sharpening when zooming out, then they do a much better job than any of the sharpening methods in Photoshop.
Also, it is not a software package issue per se, but rather a file format issue: When I develop the RAW file in PicturePerfect or ViewNX, export the file as TIFF and then reimport the TIFF file into the RAW converter, the TIFF file at 25% is rendered just as soft in the RAW converter as it is in Photoshop. If your argument is correct, then the software only applies additional sharpening to the RAW files when zooming out, but not to TIFF files. This is very strange.
My hunch is that Photoshop and the other software packages use an algorithm that does not apply bicubic sharpening for screen rendering of TIFF files at less than 100%. And there is a reason to use bicubic sharpening when downsizing an image - otherwise you lose perceived sharpness...
    PS
    1) There is no option in the RAW converters "to switch off" additional sharpness that is supposedly applied to the RAW files when zooming out
    2) The screen of my Mac is not the issue since pictures on the web and in all other applications always look perfectly sharp. Only the TIFF files in Photoshop, etc. come out soft...

  • JPEG and TIFF Photos Appear Blurry in Photoshop

    Hello,
After placing my TIFF and JPEG files into photoshop they suddenly get very blurry and out of focus. When I open the original photos in finder they are clear. I am wondering what the problem is here.
    I use Photoshop CS5.1.
    Help appreciated.
    Thank you!

I have a retina display computer. I think that may be the problem. It is frusterating though becasue now my photos all look really blurry and when I view them on another screen they are clear.
This is a screen shot of my image width etc etc.

  • Tiff images I used in trial version are now blurry in full version of InDesign CS5.5

I placed two tiff images (visual poems I made) into a file (a manuscript) using a trial version of InDesign CS5.5, and they appeared clear and crisp. Then I bought the full version of InDesign (the Education product as part of Adobe Creative Suite), opened the file, and the two tiff images are completely blurry!
When I open the tiffs in photoshop and view them as "actual pixels," they are clear and crisp. The resolution is 300. For one image I tried making it a lower resolution, and that didn't help.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi, I just unchecked the Object Level Display and nothing happened.
Nothing has changed with the images at all. The only thing that is different is that I created the manuscript in a trial version of the software. Maybe it was an earlier version than the software I purchased? Would that have an effect on the images? I didn't purchase the software directly from the trial version I used. What happened is that the trial version expired. Then a month later or so I bought a new laptop, bought the Creative Suite (Education version, so much cheaper than normal), and then installed the software on the laptop. Then I opened my manuscript using the new software, the CS5.5, and everything was fine except for the images being blurry.
Is it possible I used a trial version in CS5.0 and then bought CS5.5 and that has something to do with it?
Thanks for all of your help!!
    I just realized I wasn't logged in & that's why I couldn't reply.

  • Why are my TIFF files saving blurry? Help!

I use CS5.1 and just recently when I go to save my edited file as a TIFF, the file is now blurry. I even tried to save a RAW file as a TIFF (with no editing) and it is still coming up blurry. Any idea why this is happening? I appreciate any advice.

If viewing in Bridge dump the cache and let it rebuild.  Tools/cache/purge cache for xxx folder.

  • Why are my jpegs or tiffs blurry when I view Pages with Quick Look or in Google Docs?

    Hi,
I exported high-res images from Photoshop that I used at a much reduced size in a Pages document (it's a jpeg of my signature). While editing the document in Pages, the image looks very clear. However, in Quick View mode the image is blurry. It is also blurry if I import the document to Google Docs. Does anyone understand why this might be?
    Thanks

I know what you mean, but I resized it by making it smaller, so the resolutions should have been more than fine. Don't you think? If I had dragged it into Pages and then enlarged the image I would understand it getting blurry but not the other way around. Also, it looks totally fine in Pages. It only looks bad when I view the document in Quick Look or upload it to Google Drive.

  • Blurry images when I combine files into a PDF with Acrobat

I have created 4 files in Photoshop with a combination of graphics and text.  I am trying to make a PDF that can be emailed, so it only has to look good onscreen.  I have saved each file in numorous ways (jpg, tiff, pdf, bmp etc...) I have eliminated any compression.  When I pull the files up individually they look great, but when I try and combine them in a PDF the images get blurry.  I have selected the largest file size, change compression for jpg (and the others) in acrobat. I can't figure out what I am missing.  Why do the files look good until I combine them?

A little confusing. How to eliminate compression when using JPG or PDF?
If you export the images from Photoshop to PDF, will they look good on screen? If so, and you import and combine in Acrobat, they should not be changed, unless you select "Save as optimised PDF", because then optimisation settings could re-encode the images to lower resolution.

  • In fCP x jpgs are blurry all of  a sudden

no matter what size jpg or tiff
when i move the sequence the photo turns blurry
when i stop the movie  the photo is sharp
    e.g   a  jpg  1043 x 694  276 k
if i keep the image still it is sharp
when i stop it in a sequnce of jpgs it is sharp
if i move it it  is blurry
    what is going on here
did i press a wrong button
all of a sudden out of the blue this is a catastrophic event in my work production

In your FCPX preferences, select Playback.  In the Playback section, change Playback Quality to High Quality rather than Better Performance.  Note that you may see errors regarding dropped frames on playback depending on what you're doing.
When you export or share your project, the images should export at full quality for the settings you're using.  The blur you're seeing is expected during playback at Better Performance settings.

  • Poor quality in preview - image is blurry

To date, I have not had any issues with the preview quality matching the actual image quality.
I have not made any hardware por software changes.  Image files are in raw, jpg and tiff formats.
This issue appears to be only with raw files.  The image in preview is extremely blurry, yet when the
file is opened it is tack sharp.  I have checked all my preference settings and cannot figure out what is goin on.
I have tried purging and refreshing the cache and nothing seems to work.
    I am running PS CS4
    Windows Vist 64 Ultimate
    Please help!
Update: I have changed raw preferences to apply to preview images only.  The image qulaity only seems to improve when I
purge the cache for the slected images.  I have the cache option for export to folder when possible checked.  I have tried to purge the cache for
all images but the preview does not imprevoce unless I purge selected only.

This may be dumb but when it recently happened to me, I opened one image in adobe camera raw and increased the clarity by an inpercievable 1%. Then I hit done. Preview looked crisp again. I copied settings of that image. Then I highlighted all other blurry previews and pasted settings and they all became crisp again. Probabley just a quick fix that doesn't solve the problem but my knowledge is limited.

  • Blurry images in cover flow view

why do my tiff files (primarily) look so blurry when I switch to cover flow view on my new mac? I've seen posts about this issue as far back as 2007- has apple still not fixed this, or is it just me? As a photographer it's a major annoyance to have to zoom in on each image to get a good look at it. Little help?

I actually figured out the answer to this one myself, with the help of someone's previous post about creating new thumbnails with a little app called CocoThumbX, which can be used to strip image files of their thumbnails and create new ones. I almost gave up on it, because the new thumbnails I was generating from it didn't show up any clearer. But then I used it to remove thumbnails only, without creating new ones afterward, and the images now look as they should in cover flow. I don't know if there are any negative side effects of not having thumbnails, or even where the original thumbnails were located in the system, but wherever needed, the computer seems to be generating it's own thumbnails for the images, and they're looking good. Hope this helps.

  • Blurry Cover Flow Icons

All of a sudden my icons in cover flow view are blurry. Any ideas how can I fix it? A file by file fix is impractical. I have hundreds of thousands of image files.

the .icns file has the icon image embedded inside of it. the proper way to change the icon of an application is to great a NEW .icns file and replace the one in the package contents of the particular app you're working on. (make sure to back the original up in case you want it later.)
this may be done with various programs. pixadex is one program that can be used to convert .png or .tiff to .icns.
if you have the Developer Tools, there is a new app called IconComposer which can also create the .icns files too.
once you've changed the .icns file inside the application, finder will source that file and consequently change the icon. [sometimes in the past with tiger for example, there could be competition between the cut and paste method and the .icns file method. i haven't explored this yet in leopard.]
as far as iLife, are you using the previous version of iLife? if so, then they are of a lower resolution.

  • Blurry when going to print

I have created a file in indesign and exported it to a pdf.  my pdf file looks crystal clear but when I send it to the place for print, (in a magazine) they send me back a file saying that its all blurry and they arent sure whats wrong either??  I am super new to this and only design on a very low scale for a small real estate business.  any help would be great as since my file that  i see is fine i have no idea what could be wrong.  thanks!!!!

In InDesign go to  WIndow > Links
Check, if all images are connected and up to date, if not you will see a warning symbol.
Select each image and look if the effective resolution is higher than 240ppi. If it is not visible, change the options in that panel in the panel menu.
When you work with InDesign you should take care that you have used the right image types in the correct way:
Did you import the images via FIle > Place…?, don't use copy and paste! Neither use the clipboard!
For vector drawings is best to use Illustrator and save the files as AI oder PDF/X-4
For images you can use PSD, TIFF, PDF and PDP from Photoshop.
If your images have no transparency, you can also use JPG
Because you work for Print, I would recommend not to use PNG.
    When you create the PDF:
    File > Export…
    Select PDF (Print)
Ask the printer which settings, start with one of the X-presets and make your changes as the Printer requires it.

  • Uploaded images are blurry

Hi all, I have tried numerous options when resizing my  100MB TIFF files to JPEGS but all result in blurry images when uploaded. I have opened the files on my laptop prior to uploading and they're great. I was advised to limit the width to 600 pixels but thsi made no difference at all. I used both photoshop CS6 and lightroom 4.3 with the same outcome. Has anyone had similar experiences or advice? Thanks

Thanks - I see the project here (http://www.behance.net/gallery/Perspectives-Of-Form-A-Sojourn-Away/9001215) but I don't see the original image you sent me for comparision...were did you send this? If possible, please send it in a support ticket here: behancenetwork.zendesk.com/anonymous_requests/new
Also - the "share to Behance" feature from Photoshop and Lightroom only publishes a "Work in Progress," not a project like the one you've sent me - are you seeing the same issues whether you upload directly to Behance (like the project) vs. share from Creative Cloud? Thanks!

  • Image Blurry in DV NTSC sequence.

    Hello,
I'm editing a sequence in 720 x 480 DV NTSC, pixel aspect NTSC - CCIR 601.  I need to add a logo image (tiff) into the sequence, but it always exports blurry (and it doesn't look that great in the canvas before exporting either).  I'm assuming it has to do with the par of the image vs. the sequence, but I've read several blogs and tried resizing the image and distorting and whatnot, and haven't had any luck.
This video is ultimately inteded for use on a website.
    (I've attached a screen shot)
Can anybody walk me through it?
Thanks, in advance to all you geniusi.
