Blurry Title

Hi Everyone,
I am creating a simple title in LiveType, and have run into a problem. It is a simple white on black title, with the only effect being a fade in. When I make a render preview of the title, it looks good. I then render the real copy, and import it into Final Cut Express. Then it looks blurry. I have tried moving it the the desktop, playing it in the desktop, but it is still blurry. I have also tried making the same title with iMovie, and it still looks blurry. I am not sure what this is and why it is happening.
Thanks.

Shane's Stock Answer #2: Blurry playback
ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL NTSC MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=24787
Video playback requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the DV data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the DV footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or NTSC monitor routed thru your camera or deck.
The canvas shows you what happens after the codec you are working with has been applied. The viewer shows you the material in its native format. There are a couple things you can do to make it look better:
1. Disable overlays on the canvas
2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline
3. Check your RT settings and make sure they are set to Unlimited RT, and that playback video quality is set to HIGH or DYNAMIC.
But still, your computer monitor will not show you a full quality image. For that you need an external monitor and a proper output device, such as those made by Canopus (ADVC 110, 300…only for DV), AJA, Black-Magic or Matrox.

  • Blurry Titles within Titler, even blurrier on Timeline

I know there are a lot of documented issues about blurry text and titles after rendering. I am encountering blurry titles within the Titler interface, and on the timeline in Premiere Pro CS6. It is just white text on a black background, nothing has been scaled up or transformed or anyway, but the text is just totally crappy looking. It will probably look ok when you look at the small screenshot cap below, but if you look at it at 100%, you can see that the text is blurry and there are broken horizonal lines.
Perhaps it will render out ok, but I'm still mystefied why Adobe would put out such a sub-par program.

Ok, this is what I did:
    Open Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
New Project > DV - NTSC > Standard 48 kHz
Dragged an image onto video track 1
    Title > New Title > Default Still > Video Settings: 720 x 480, 29.97fps drop-frame, pixel aspect ratio D1/DV NTSC (0.9091)
Inside Titler: Area Type Tool, drag area inside title safe area
    Typed some text
Changed font family to Adobe Garamond Pro, font size 60, background of black
Adjusted text area to be at the bottom of the text safe area
    Closed Titler window
In sequenced, dragged title to video track 2
When I delete the image from video track 1, the text does look better -- still blurry, but the broken lines go away. But ultimately I need to have the text over the image (no background) -- I just used the black background to isolate the text for this experiment.
I rendered out this arrangement (title with black background over image), and the broken lines weren't there in the render; however, the text was still noticeably blurry.

  • Blurry Titles in Premiere CS6

Is Adobe doing anything to correct the problems that Premiere CS6 has when creating titles that look great until they are rendered, at which point they become blurry...titles created in Photoshop and/or AfterEffects render out the same way in Premiere.

Here is a simplest workflow using the PPro Titler to generate a title.
ie. Create a Title on a White, Black and Alpha BG.s  ( alpha is the centre section)
The samples show screen grabs of the process plus a frame that is grabbed from an H264 HD 1080p Export playing in Windows Media Player.
    Everything is at  Default Setting.
I doubt you can see much difference between any of them and no loss or blur on the "export" in the WMV player. Last frame bottom right.
    Top left Titler Grab
Top Right Full Screen Program Monitor Grab ( Tilde Key Shortcut)
Bottom Left Source Monitor Grab - (Full rez)
Bottom Right - Screen Grab - Playback from WMV Player - H264 1080p file ( YouTube Preset)
You still not have told us your export settings or any settings for that matter!
(Makes it difficult to work out what you are doing without that info.)

  • Blurry titles in iMovie 11'

    Hi,
I have noticed recently that the titles in iMovie are blurry, I thought that when ill export the movie the titles will syncronize to the resolution of the movie, in my case 1080p but they didn't.
does anyone have a sloution to my problem?
    cheers.

Our brain is programmed to naturally accept that if the object is static, it looks sharp. If an object is in motion however, it will look blurry.
What happens if you make a moving object static?!? Your brain needs to see this as being sharp, but it can not being it is actually in motion. This is the function of in camera stabilization and iMovie and pretty much all the other software stabilization setup. It stabilizes the image, but does not prevent motion blur. Preventing motion blur is a function of shutter speed, but the problem with upping the shutter speed is that it removes a certain cinematic feeling our eyes and brains are naturally atuned to. Which goes to show why, even with the shaky footage of the movie "The Blair Witch Project", the movie went on to be one of the hits.
There's always a trade-off using camera stabilization or software stabilization and that is, do you want
1, stabilized footage but at the expense of seeing motion blur
    or
2, unstabilized footage that gives you sea sick but keeping the acuity as is.
Most people will choose stabilized footage and use in conjunction a steadicam setup..

  • Blurry titles when exporting from interlaced to progressive?

I have a project which is DV PAL (720 x 576) and needs to be exported as a progressive H264 mpeg file. The video looks good in the export, but the titles are blurry. I just did a test and exported the project interlaced, and titles were fine. So the problem is clearly the transition from interlaced to progressive. Is there any way to get crisp titles in this situation?
Using Premiere CS6. Have tried exporting to progressive with several alterations to the title clips (reversing field order, always deinterlace) with the same result.

    Hi JR Dungan,
How about you create a new progressive sequence, and then copy paste all of the content of your current interlaced sequence into the new progressive sequence, and export from there.  I haven't worked with interlaced footage for years so I don't know for sure if this will help or not, but since it's quick and easy to do, it's worth a try.
    Cheers!

  • Why Blurry Title?

Added scrolling credits at end of short movie, but the font is blurry. Rolling title added near the start of movie is fine, looks like the same font and everything, but end credits are blurred. ? :-/

The text is in the artwork – so it is probably rasterized as you say.  I cannot select the blurry text in the artwork in FrameMaker or in the PDF.
Why would these things not be blurry when my former colleague made the PDF, but they are blurry for me?
    Thanks,

  • Blurry titles in QT export

I am editing a project in which there are words that scroll and go left to right. The font is pretty large and they were created within FCP. They look fine within FCP (admittedly on my computer screen not a proper monitor) but when the project is exported to a QT file (I kept the settings the same) they appear blurry and are really hard to read.
Is this a frame rate issue? Or something to do with field dominance? It's really annoying!
Also there are various images that move by keyframe that lose a crisp edge when they move... I have always been told you don't need to render before you export... would that make a difference?
    Thanks a lot....

Unless you're exporting with Compressor, its best to render FULL. Also keep in mind that QT Player may not be displaying at best quality. With the file open in QT, hit Command j to open the movie's properties so you can set the high quality flag.

  • Blurry Titles and text on HD 6.0!!!

hello everyone, I just got my new 12' powerbook and its my first mac ever... and I LOVE IT!!! I have no idea why I have been using pc all my life, macs are so much better!
anyways, onto the PROBLEM... I have the new ilife '06 and I have installed imovie HD 6 but when I try to add a title onto black (and I havent tried on clips) it turns out very fuzzy and very unprofesional... when I preview it, it looks great, but not when I add it to my timeline... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
    thanks...

It's not a problem, it's an intention. You would need a quad g5 top of the line to run the video in full resolution in real time! Too much data, so they arteficially reduced the resolution in iMovie for us to be able to happily edit our movies on slower machines. Your final DVDs will look just fine, believe me, they simply will. Same with other codecs in .mov files for QT playback. If you choose any codec and the highest possible quality, you will get almost sharp titles. But not in iMovie itself. I personally have set up the lowest preview quality in iMovie, because I prefer application speed ahead of viewing quality. I rather look at fuzzy than jerky subtitles. But again, everyone has different opinion. The end product is what counts anyway, right?
    Cheers.

  • Blurry Titling for Web Video

    Hi there,
I'm producing an online advertisement for a client of mine. This ad won't be aired on television, and will almost exclusively be posted on YouTube.
There's a scene with some titles noting the website and some details for the client. The text looks great right up until it's rendered fully, at which point it blurs and looks strikingly unprofessional. Normally, viewing the video outputted through an NTSC monitor, the text looks fine. But because this video is not being produced for broadcast, and is exclusively video for the web, I'm not sure how to correct the text blur.
    Thanks so much!
    Skyler

I'm guessing you're working in DV. Unless you make the text large enough, in the correct colors, and in a font that works well in video, you're never going to get good quality text on the web.

Everything that Philip says here and more because you're going to compress it further for the web.

  • The blurry title problem

Hi, I know this question has been submitted before and I've read some threads about it, but I'm still not getting resolution.....
I am new to imovie. Just created my first. I exported to both quicktime and itunes, hoping that in one of them, the title would come out looking normal.
Alas.... it looks HORRIBLE in both. I am using a simple Arial font on black background with an off white color for the text. I will change the color or text '
to ANYTHING that anyone recommends, if it will help. I have seen that there's a solution to this in Quicktime Pro but I don't have QuickTime Pro, so
I need some other kind of solution. I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP!!! As I've spent WAY too long on this, and I just want to get that one thing fixed
and then I can be done!
    THANK YOU!

Oh Gosh, I'm so eager for a response I've been checking for the last 3 hours... Please Please Please! I really need to figure this out super super soon!!!!!

  • Changing seq. aspect ratio: crashes FCP

    Hi all,
Despite my best intentions, my project contains sequences with different settings, which is causing problems on export. A quick overview of sequence contents and field dominance settings:
    - SEQUENCE FIELD DOMINANCE: NONE
    - PSD frame-graphic overlay (FD: None)
    - QT titles from Keynote w/ transparency (FD: None)
    - regular footage (FD: lower)
These field dom settings are the only ones that allow the titles to render crisply.
Rendering out using Compressor, DVD-90 settings. Some sequences render perfectly, but in others, the titles are jagged & blurry when rendered out. The only difference I can find, is in the sequence aspect ratios.
The sequences that render properly, are set at 720x480 NTSC DV (3:2).
The ones that render jagged/blurry titles, are 720x486 CCIR 601 NTSC (40:27). (These display crisply in FCP Canvas, but render improperly.)
When I change a sequence's aspect ratio to NTSC DV 3:2, I get "Operation Not Allowed," then "Out of memory," then the canvas turns red with the words "Display unavailable. Close and reopen window to restore." Sometimes, I get the beachball and then FCP crashes.
Closing and reopening doesn't help; I still have the red window. Only changing back to CCIR 601 brings the sequence back online.
I have tried creating a new sequence and copy/pasting, but I get "Out of memory" etc.
    Can anyone advise??
    Thanks very much,
    Brett

By default Compressor assumes you're providing a 720x480 media file for compression to DVD. This is because DVD players can display only a 720x480 image.
If you send a 720x486 media file through the default Compressor settings, it will squeeze the image vertically to fit 720x480. It typically does not do this well.
If you suspect this is the problem, duplicate the DVD-90 setting, use the Inspector window and click on the Geometry button, select a Custom crop and crop 2 lines from the top and 4 lines from the bottom (always crop in even numbers for DVD playback). Rename and save the setting.

  • Render problem 5.1.2

Recent update to 5.1.2 has been a little interesting. Heres what I noticed: if you drop in a segment made form Live Type in the time line, it looks fine, all the edges of the fonts look clean, but if you render the time line the edges all become Jagged edges! This is consistent, no matter how you render the time line. Has anyone else seen this?

There are many discussions on the topic of blurry text.
This is not a result of FCP 5.1.2, you will have the same issue with FCP 5.0.4, FCP 4.5, or earlier.
Use this forum's "search" for "blurry text" or "blurry titles" and you will find many.

  • Mail in Yosemite is useless to me

I know, that's a bit of a blurry title, but it sums it up: Mail in Yosemite is useless to me.
I use IMAP and SMTP to connect to our mailserver. This has always worked fine with any of the big cats and Maverick, but in Yosemite, I run into the same problem every time: Mail fetches emails for a while, then stalls and no more emails come in. Activity Monitor shows it is trying to connect to the server and it will try so forever (I actually left it trying overnight). If I quit Mail and restart Mail, it will work again (emails of course pouring in, making up for the period it couldn't retrieve any) for a while, then stalls again and no more emails come in.
This happens on a brand-new Yosemite 10.10.1 install, with no extra third-party applications, utilities, plug-ins, extensions or tools installed.
Yosemite Mail is being bashed allover the net, but I don't read much stories similar to mine, so I'm suspicious about our Mailserver (Exchange 2010) and Yosemite Mail not being the best of friends.

Sometimes this issue is caused by a misconfiguration or incompatibility of the Exchange server, or perhaps by a bug in Mail. If so, you won't be able to resolve it yourself. The fact that your iOS devices may be working well with the same account isn't relevant, because iOS uses a completely different protocol (ActiveSync) to communicate with Exchange servers. By default, OS X Mail uses the EWS protocol.
Each of the following steps has been reported to help with Exchange issues, at least temporarily, in some cases:
    1. Back up all data. Open the Internet Accounts pane in System Preferences and check to make sure you don't have duplicate Exchange accounts. If you do, delete all but one of the duplicates. If there are no duplicates, delete the account and recreate it with the same settings. The messages will still be on the server.
    2. Rebuild the affected mailbox.
    3. Reindex messages.
    4. Follow the instructions in this support article to disable autodiscovery. You may need to get configuration details from the server administrator.
    5. In the Keychain Access application, delete the password item for the account. The next time Mail tries to access the account, you'll be prompted for the password. Check the box to save it in the Keychain.
    6. If you've created subfolders of the Exchange inbox, log in to the server through its web interface, move the messages out, and remove the subfolders. The inbox should have no subfolders.
    7. Synchronize with the server using IMAP rather than EWS. This is only possible if IMAP is enabled on the server.
    8. Consider using Outlook instead of Mail to access your Exchange mail.

  • Quicktime mov when imported has blurry text / titles

    so...
When I click on the original quicktime file...(not within idvd) the file plays perfectly...perfectly crisp titles and text...
When I import the clip...into idvd...and click the preview button...the text is all jaggy and blurry...
What am I missing? I am essentially adding a file to an existing idvd layout where the other files already look fine.

What am I missing? I am essentially adding a file to an existing idvd layout where the other files already look fine.
And you know they look fine because you've tried them in iDvd's preview???
The way to test QT palyback is with apple's DVD Player app (not preview).
Where were the titles made? in iMovie? what version (6 or 7)?
you need to provide more info on you mac as well (as in the amount of available HD space on the boot volume) what file/s did you add. was the entire content edited w/in iM7 or another version? or did you use QT Pro? There's lots we need to know here before we can troubleshoot.

  • Blurry Photoshop Files/Titles in Premiere Pro

Whenever I try to import photoshop files or add a still title to premiere pro, they both look to be very blurry. The video is older, shot in 2011 in AVI format, but even the video looks to be in a way better quality than the photos/titles. The photos themselves look pretty crisp in photoshop but look pretty terrible when sized down in premiere pro.. I have never had any problem sizing down photoshop files in premiere pro. They have always maintained quality but for some reason it is not working correctly. Can somebody explain to me what is wrong?

As for the titles, did you use PrPro's title designer to make them or are they also still images from PS or some other app? If they are actual PrPro titles, what dimensions were they set at int he 'New Title' dialog when you made them? They should match your sequence by default but if for some reason they were sized way down that would explain the blurriness.
