Blurry titles in iMovie 11'

Hi,
I have noticed recently that the titles in iMovie are blurry, I thought that when ill export the movie the titles will syncronize to the resolution of the movie, in my case 1080p but they didn't.
does anyone have a sloution to my problem?
cheers.

Our brain is programmed to naturally accept that if the object is static, it looks sharp. If an object is in motion however, it will look blurry.
What happens if you make a moving object static?!? Your brain needs to see this as being sharp, but it can not being it is actually in motion. This is the function of in camera stabilization and iMovie and pretty much all the other software stabilization setup. It stabilizes the image, but does not prevent motion blur. Preventing motion blur is a function of shutter speed, but the problem with upping the shutter speed is that it removes a certain cinematic feeling our eyes and brains are naturally atuned to. Which goes to show why, even with the shaky footage of the movie "The Blair Witch Project", the movie went on to be one of the hits.
There's always a trade-off using camera stabilization or software stabilization and that is, do you want
1, stabilized footage but at the expense of seeing motion blur
or
2, unstabilized footage that gives you sea sick but keeping the acuity as is.
Most people will choose stabilized footage and use in conjunction a steadicam setup..

  • Fuzzy titles in iMovie 4 and 3

When putting scrolling block titles in iMovie, they look clear in the preview, but become all fuzzy in the project. I've looked and can't find any info. Surely this shouldn't be happening.

Yes, titles are blurry on a computer screen, especially in iMovie 3. They will be fine when you watch on TV (from the camera or from a DVD).

  • Blurry Title

    Hi Everyone,
I am creating a simple title in LiveType, and have run into a problem. It is a simple white on black title, with the only effect being a fade in. When I make a render preview of the title, it looks good. I then render the real copy, and import it into Final Cut Express. Then it looks blurry. I have tried moving it the the desktop, playing it in the desktop, but it is still blurry. I have also tried making the same title with iMovie, and it still looks blurry. I am not sure what this is and why it is happening.
    Thanks.

Shane's Stock Answer #2: Blurry playback
ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL NTSC MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=24787
Video playback requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the DV data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the DV footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or NTSC monitor routed thru your camera or deck.
The canvas shows you what happens after the codec you are working with has been applied. The viewer shows you the material in its native format. There are a couple things you can do to make it look better:
    1. Disable overlays on the canvas
    2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline
    3. Check your RT settings and make sure they are set to Unlimited RT, and that playback video quality is set to HIGH or DYNAMIC.
But still, your computer monitor will not show you a full quality image. For that you need an external monitor and a proper output device, such as those made by Canopus (ADVC 110, 300…only for DV), AJA, Black-Magic or Matrox.

  • Can't edit titles in iMovie

I want to edit my theme title in iMovie (v 10.0.02) so that I can put the text on more than one line but the options are all greyed out
I've read the help section on this (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2212) but I don't have the ability to click on the font, size, alignment etc tools. I can see them, they are just completely unclickable.
    Any ideas?

    Hi ivdemark,
If you see above, I read the iMovie support.
It says that the titles that you can't edit are in gold, while the titles you can edit are in blue. This title is in blue.
The options are there, they are just greyed out.
Below is a full screen shot. Does this help show the issue?

  • Titles Make iMovie Freeze

I'm having a problem with adding Titles. Everytime I click on the Titles button iMovie freezes. I cannot add titles at all. Transitions, Video FX etc. work great, but for some reason every time I try to add a title, iMovie will freeze. I have plenty of hardrive space. I dont get it. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Alex

    Hi Alex
    There can be so much:
    • low free space on internal hard disk gets the Mac to be spooky.
< 5Gb and even Mac OS alone get's into trouble
5-10Gb might work but slow and unstable
    25Gb my set up
    • Tidying up helps from time to time. I would.
    - delete the iMovie pref file
    - run: Repair permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
    - start from another hard disk or CD/DVD then
run: Repair hard disk (Apple Disk Util tool)
    - start a new account and log into this and re-try.
    • Did You add some "smart nice plug-ins" - move them out and see if
    iMovie starts to behave.
    To start with.
Ops ! YES Lennart nailed an important one too. Very so ! FONTS !!

  • How to speed up Focus title in iMovie? (READ DESCRIPTION)

I tried to speed up the Focus title in iMovie by making it shorter, but it maintained the same speed while being cut off before the text actually formed. I cannot speed up the actual clip itself, when I click Command+R nothing happens. Are there any other solutions?

    Hi Joshua,
thanks a lot for your answer!
The reason why I don't use hardware triggering is the following: I want to acquire data when an external trigger line goes low and stop acquiring when the line goes high. But I want to do this for 30 consecutive triggers, and I want to be able to distinguish between every of the 30 "shots". I did not find a hardware trigger solution for that problem, so I tried the conditional retrieval option.
After your hint I wrote a vi which reads the buffer without conditional retrieval. The triggering is done with normal labview code based on the Array_Threshold.vi. This method is surprisingly fast and works fine!
Nevertheless, if you have some idea for the hardware triggering, please let me know!
    Many greetings,
    Tobias

  • Clicking a title makes iMovie 6 freeze

I have iMovie 6.0.3 and am having troubles with it freezing. Awhile ago, I had problems with using Office, which turned out to be a font issue. I was able to fix it by clearing the font caches and removing duplicate fonts.
Now in iMovie, whenever I click on a title, I get my "bing" error sound and shortly after any other action is taken, the spinning beach ball of death, requiring me to force quit iMovie. If I don't click on a title (centered title, bouncing text, etc.) I am able to freely scroll around through the list, go to any other tab under the editing pane, but once I click on a title, it freezes. I'm not able to drag it into a location or click on "add" as it also causes it to freeze, and no preview window comes up in the viewer.
I'm assuming at this point it's another unresolved font issue. My font book tells me all my fonts are fine, no errors. There are no more duplicate fonts. So I'm left thinking there is some file iMovie is trying to read where it's attempting to locate the fonts that no longer exist -- or something along those lines. Well I cannot find such a file, and I've tried removing the preferences as well to no avail.
Is anyone able to shed some light on this? If nothing else explain to me how fonts work in conjunction with iMovie so I can try further trouble shooting?

Well, I managed to solve it. It was not a font issue.
What I did that fixed it was under iMovie, show package contents/PlugIns, I removed a plug in called title, opened iMovie, and it magically worked. Then I quit iMovie, replaced the plugin and restarted it. iMovie titles now work fine. If someone else has a problem like this, try removing other plug ins and then placing them back in the folder. I also removed the entire plugin folder at one point, which might have done something as well, I'm really not sure.
I can only think iMovie was trying to find the files for the titles in the wrong place. Why, I have no idea. But it works now. So yay!

  • Trying to add titles in IMovie. Using IMovie 8.0.6 and Mac OSX version 10.6.8.  When I try to add titles IMovie shuts down.  What do I need to do to stop the shut downs?

I can not add Titles in IMovies.  When I click on the Titles, IMovie shuts down.  I am using Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 and IMovies version 8.0.6
Was able to add some Titles yesterday, but had some problems with shut downs.  Today I can not get past clicking on Titles without a shutdown

    DK Flash,
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3310 but you have 10.6.8. So this shouldn't apply. But just in case.
This had to do with the Far Far Away title causing iMovie to quit.
    Try clearing caches and plist.
Do the behavior persist in a new user on the computer?

  • More Titles for imovie 09

I was wondering if i could download even more imovie titles for imovie 09. I didn't know if there are plug ins I can download or something. Any information would help

    artistjoh wrote:
.. iMovie 06 was more sophisticated than iMovie 09. Is this the case and could it do things like add animated images?
    Yes.
iMHD6 was a 'real', timeline based NLE. it lacked a few of iM09's features as greenboxing and pic-in-pic, but due to an API, you were allowed to teach iM new tricks by plug-ins.
have a look on this website: www.geethree.com
they still offer an awesome bunch of plugins for incredible effects, transitions and titles..
    for stop-motion..
yepp, iMHD6 allowed a 'length' of clips down to 1 frame (iM09 is limited to 3frames), allthough I recommend designated tools as FrameByFrame or - bestofshow - iStopmotion (onion-skinning, stuff...).
if you like to make a bunch of drawings into a 'video', QuicktimePro offers a simple conversion of an Image Sequence to .mov..
have a look here, my 'Say Cheese Productions'-intro.. that is done with QTpro..:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7-BHrrF-EE&hd=1
iMHD6 was the little brother of FCE, which is the little sister of FCP..
iM09 is a from scratch new app.. just sharing the name, but totally diff. app and usage (a 'clean'n upload-tool, I like to say)

Try sharing and see if the effect is still present when you play the shared movie.  It can happen when playing within iMovie if there are insufficient resources to play a full resolution.

  • Blurry Titles within Titler, even blurrier on Timeline

I know there are a lot of documented issues about blurry text and titles after rendering. I am encountering blurry titles within the Titler interface, and on the timeline in Premiere Pro CS6. It is just white text on a black background, nothing has been scaled up or transformed or anyway, but the text is just totally crappy looking. It will probably look ok when you look at the small screenshot cap below, but if you look at it at 100%, you can see that the text is blurry and there are broken horizonal lines.
Perhaps it will render out ok, but I'm still mystefied why Adobe would put out such a sub-par program.

Ok, this is what I did:
    Open Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
New Project > DV - NTSC > Standard 48 kHz
Dragged an image onto video track 1
    Title > New Title > Default Still > Video Settings: 720 x 480, 29.97fps drop-frame, pixel aspect ratio D1/DV NTSC (0.9091)
Inside Titler: Area Type Tool, drag area inside title safe area
    Typed some text
Changed font family to Adobe Garamond Pro, font size 60, background of black
Adjusted text area to be at the bottom of the text safe area
    Closed Titler window
In sequenced, dragged title to video track 2
When I delete the image from video track 1, the text does look better -- still blurry, but the broken lines go away. But ultimately I need to have the text over the image (no background) -- I just used the black background to isolate the text for this experiment.
I rendered out this arrangement (title with black background over image), and the broken lines weren't there in the render; however, the text was still noticeably blurry.

  • "Expand Title" in imovie breaks the title into two lines

How do I phrase this so people will find the problem and help me solve it?
When I use "Expand Lower Third" title in iMovie, I type in a sentence and the title starts playing fine, but less than half a second after it starts, the title breaks into two lines.
Changing the font size doesn't seem to help.  Also, no matter what I do, the jump happens right at the beginning, so it's very distracting and unprofessional.
    Grr!!!

Hi Flick, I'm having  the same issue with the Expand title mate - exactly as you explained it. I'm going to bin it and use another Title. Must be a bug.

  • How to create custom titles in iMovie HD

Hi, I tried to create titles in Photoshop (white type on a black background) that I can then import into iMovie as a still frame or photo. The problem is the type is blurry and not as crisp as when I use the Titles option in iMovie. Is there any way to import type into iMovie without it being blurry?
(Yes I will use the title options as a last resort, I just wanted to try something different)

Hmm, that's good to know about the better resolution on TV, unfortunately this one is intended for YouTube, (for now anyway).
I have one screen that needs to have a logo and a line of text under it, the rest I think I can get away with using the iMovie titles. I wanted to have three lines of text, each one coming on the screen separately and then staying in place, ending with all three on the screen at once. I can get away though, with each line coming on and the fading off separately if I have to.
    Thanks for the help!

  • How to change background color of title in iMovie '09?

My issue is that for animated title slides that I insert with iMovie '09, I can only choose from about a dozens backgrounds and colors. I want the background to be red, but the default red is not the shade I need and there does not appear to be a way to adjust the brightness.

imagine the background as a 'still' or 'photo':
create your special shade of red in any 'Paint' app (Pixelmator, Photoshop/element or iWorks/Keynote ..) , save it as a jpeg, drag it into your Project, add title on that.
btw: in case you'll distribute your movie by DVD, don't be too colorful, too 'bright' with red ... old SDef video ddn't like 'red' ... or 'green' ... or 'grey'  LOL ...

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO IMPROVE THE TITLES IN IMOVIE HD 6?

FOR SOME REASON, the titles options seem to be lcking in controls....foristance I like the drift effect...but there seems to be no way to adjust the timing of them visually...they drify for a second and then go away...or, scrolling across right to eft or left to right is left off the plain scrolling....Although you can make the titles scroll through the boby scrolling, and make the "waters" calm....but I want the titles to scroll, or drift, at different rates..(I know I can do them over eac other...arghhh....pretty simple stuff...but odd not improved in the imovie app. also, the video card I have works great for final cut pro HD....but the video effects all coe out white on about 1/2 of my imovie....I knopw I know...why am I not just using final cut pro....it's too hard, so far....
is their some sort of extra, or third party thing that I can buy that works for imovie to add more options?

/your shift keys stick… you should fix that /
… most titles in iM have sliders to set speed, pauses, whatever.... some titles show a hair-cross, when you click in the tiny preview window, which allows to set the position of some titles…
