Blurry video once burnt to DVD

I have recently uploaded some footage from a JVC Hard Disk Camcorder to PE9. I have then added this footage (about 2-3 hours worth) onto the timeline without any transitions or effects. I have played the footage back in PE9 and there are no quality issues apparent. However, when I burn this footage to a Disc (DVD) and play it back from the disc the quality is not the same, it's very blurry/shaky.
If anyone can help me fix this problem it would be really appreciated!
Cheers!

You do realize that AVCHD footage is high-def and has 4-6 times the resolution of standard DVD video, right? So a DVD can't possibly look even remotely as detailed as you original AVCHD.
Also, you don't say how you're judging the quality of your video -- but it should look just fine on a TV. If you're playing it on a computer at full-screen, however, you're blowing it out to waaaaaaay beyond its resolution, since your computer monitor is likely at least 1280x1024 while your DVD video is only 720x480.
In addition, your DVD video is interlaced, while your computer video is not. So, depending on which software you're using to play your video, you may also be seeing interlacing artifacts on your computer that will not be such an issue on a TV.
In short, there are a lot of factors to consider. And your video editing software is the least likely to be the factor affecting the quality of your final DVD.

  • Audio and Photos are playing out of sync once burnt onto DVD.

Hiya, I've created a slideshow, with music in the background, and when playing it through in the preview mode it all works fine, and the songs start and end where I want them to and all the photos and video clips work. Once it's bunt onto a DVD and played, the audio seems to be running ahead of the photo slideshow and it ends up out of sync. I've tried playing the DVD on the computer and the DVD player. but it makes no difference. Please help!

Are you using transitions in the slideshow? Sometime they play with different timing in the preview mode than they do on a DVD. Try removing the transitions and see what happens.

  • Quality of videos once burned to DVD R

I have burned several videos onto DVD R using the "widescreen" save and still, the quality of the videos are truly not at the level they use to be when using another software (Nero).
I wish I could resolve this issue as I have spent lots of time learning my new software - Premiere Elements 11.

    Denise

Are you doing all of your editing in PrE?
    Yes
I realize that you are doing the authoring function in both PrE and Nero.
You are starting with an HD (High Def) Project in PrE, with matching source footage. Is that correct?
I am using two sources (two different video cameras) and both of them have High Def footage.
For DVD-Video (NTSC), one would need to down-rez that PrE Project to 720 x 480 and probably Widescreen 16:9. What are the exact steps for that down-rezzing?
Using Nero, when I export the video footage, it gives  me several options, one of them being 720X480.  Having said that, I don't necessarily need to downsize to that resolution (720 X 480)  as long as I can have the quality of the video stay the same.  Could I choose to burn it to AVCH  - 1920 X 1080 format so that I can keep it at the same resolution?
Is PrE your only NLE (Non Linear Editor) for both authoring operations, PrE and Nero, that you are using?
I edit my videos - using Nero and its editor as far as Nero is concerned.
As for Premiere elements, I use Premiere elements to edit my videos
If so, exactly what are you feeding into Nero?
The files I feed into Nero are marked as "MOV file" and "MTS file", from two different video cameras.
The more detail of that file, the better.
Then, as both Nero and PrE can author a DVD-Video, what were the exact settings chosen in each. Those might be something like Bit-Rate, or the similar equivalent, Quality?
Don't understand this question - sorry...
List the exact Nero program and version, that you are using, that might be helpful.

  • Blocky video on burnt dvd.

Hi, sorry if this has been dealt with before but I'm not too wise just yet with final cut studio and have been having some trouble with blocky video on dvd.
I shot some video using hd pal and captured that in fcp. I used the corresponding timeline. I was then advised to export the project using self-contained-file with encoder ProRes 422, and to then put this through compressor using dvd90minute and changing dialogue normalisation to -31, compression preset to 'none' and the average bit rate from 6.8 to 8.0. I then imported this into dvd studio and burnt the dvd. When this plays back some of the shots, not all of them, randomly appear blocky, some more than others. I am obviously doing something wrong when exporting and/or compressing.
If someone could give some advice, it would be really great!
    Thanks.

Hi, this does occur on playback on all dvd players.
It occurs at moments of static camera. One particular part, it is just someone sitting down talking and the video doesn't look right as it plays. It then becomes blocky and as it plays the entire picture sort of jumps to and fro blocky to normal in quick succession. This doesn't occur throughout, only in some parts, and the parts that it does not happen aren't any different in content than the ones that do jump.
If you need any more information in what I've done let me know. Hope you can help. Thanks.

  • Importing Video From Home Movie DVD

I have home movies burnt onto a DVD from the original VHS Tapes, and want to edit the the using IMovieHD 6, but when attempting to import, I get an error message that says, "The File could not be imported". Quicktime was unable to parse it.
According to what I read, IMovie should be compatible with Mpeg-4 Files.
I've even tried to create Mpeg-4 files from the original video files off the DVD. Still no dice.

    Hi Robio:
    Welcome to discussions!
Don't suppose you have the original DV tape-do you? If so, that's your best bet for editing..
With that said, if you decide you need to use the DVD, then you will need to convert that DVD into something that imovie can use. (Thus, there is a possiblitlity of loss if quality..)

  • Exporting audio and video together for Mpeg2 dvd

Hi, I'm trying to export audio and video together for Mpeg2 dvd.. I changed  multiplexing to DVD but is still exporting seperately is there something im missing? thanksa

To add, with Multiplexing set to NONE, check what the Audio format is set to. If "PCM", this is an uncompressed .wav file and will result in export of .m2v video and .wav audio (I think Mac uses .aif) and use "Import as Timeline" in Encore for both clips at once. Encore will automatically transcode the audio to Dolby AC-3, do NOT mess with settings in Encore, defaults are correct. If you have CS6, then in AME audio settings, there is an option for Dolby and you can use that to create the .ac3 audio and then Encore does NOT do any transcoding to audio or video. Note that older versions will also show "Dolby" but that is a free trial of a surround encoder, not the same. You just want the stereo option available in CS6, or use PCM option is fine

  • Grainy pics in video after burning to dvd

I bought a new computer and now have windows 8. I bought a new premere Elements 11 because my version 9 didn't work. In the past I have done a lot of videos with slide shows and videos on the same dvd. I tryed doing the pictures in organizer and the pics didn't fit. Then when I selected frame fit in video the pictures got very grainy. I then looked into it and it said not to have the frame fit checked so I unchecked it. Then the pictures did not fin in the frame of the video. So then I tryed doing the slide part of the show in Movie maker and save it and re insert it. It looks terrible. I have don't this for years i movie maker and my old elements and the videos with the slide shows looked great once I burned them to a dvd. I don't know where to go to find out how to do this. The slide show looks great on the computer screen but once you burn to a dvd it looks so pixilated and grainy. Help

    t us begin.
Given you have Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 8 64 bit.
    1. What video, photos, music are going into this project and how do you intend to export your edited content for others to view it....to a file save on your computer hard drive for play back with a computer player or burn to disc DVD, AVCHD, or Blu-ray?
I have several different pictures all jpegs and videos from different cameras all different sizes. I have figured out how to resize thepictures in the CS3 bridge program. I burn them to DVDs for dvd players
We need to know this information so that we can set up the project correctly.
    a. What are the pixel dimensions of the photos and how many of them are there? Are these in jpg, .psd, tif, raw, formats.
all different but I did resize them
    b. What are your video properties...video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, aspect ratio 4:3 or 16:9, file extension. If you do not know, you can get that information from a properties readout from the free MediaInfo (tree view)
    http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
this I don't understand and will look at the above link as you suggested
or, if you give me the name of the camera that these videos came from and the setting that you used, I will try to figure out your video properties.
I have cannon camcorder and other videos from friends which I am not sure so I will look at the above link
    c. Are you going to use narration, soundtrack in your project.?
yes I add music and some are tracks from audasity that I cut from other videos and some are MP3s and some WMA
Premiere Elements 11 takes over the role of setting the project preset for a project. Sometimes it does it OK, sometimes not. That project preset setting directs the program to set the correct space in the Edit Mode Monitor for your particular video. So, you can see how video properties and project preset settings are so important to setting up the project.
I have issues trying to edit video because it jumps and the sound continues but the video portion stops so that makes it so difficult to try and edit clips
Please indicate if you wish to proceed:
    a. Create an Elements Organizer 11 slideshow and transfer it to Premiere Elements 11 for completion
    or
    b. Use only Premiere Elements 11 workspace to create, edit, and export the project.
Let us start here and expand into a more detailed step by step based on your answers to all of the above.
Along the way, please do not hesitate to ask if you need clarification on anything that I have written.
    Thank you.

  • On a new Mac how to transfer video from an external DVD to an external hard rive

I want to transfer my family videos from an external DVD player attached to my new mac to an external hard drive for back up purposes.  What do I do?  Thanks.

It is an external DVD drive connected by USB.
Then you can copy your DVDs using Disk Utility.
Insert your DVD in the drive.  If DVD player opens, close it.  Then open Disk Utility.  (Disk Utility comes with all Macs; it's located in the /Applications/Utilities folder.)
In Disk Utlity, select your DVD disk in the pane on the left side.  Then do File > New Disk Image from (title of your DVD disk).
Then give a name to the copy you are about to create and select a save location.
In "Image Format" select DVD/CD Master  (very important!)
Set encryption as NONE  (also very important!)
    Then Save
This will create a disk image file on your hard drive.  It's a duplicate of your DVD.  You can burn this image to other DVD media and/or play it on your computer same as if it were an actual DVD disk.
Note: this will not work with commercial DVDs due to their copy protection.

  • Videos I burnt to disc on my pc won't play on my macbook, when I insert the disc into the macbook it says it's blank but plays fine on the pc

Videos I burnt to disc on my pc won't play on my macbook, when I insert the disc into the macbook it says it's blank but plays fine on the pc, does anyone know how to fix this?  The photo's I burnt on the exact same type of disc work fine in both pc and macbook but the videos will only play on the pc.

If you are trying to play these on quicktime then what video format are those videos?
Wmp's?  You need to install Flip4Mac.
    Most other formats?  Install Perian.
Or just use vlc instead.  It's a much better, more powerful, and more general video player.

    Thank you for the reply.
Although what I posted in my post numbered 2 is interesting and useful information in the Premiere Elements ripping of VOBs from DVD-VIDEO, it is not answering your issue regarding a "read only" issue and did not target your specific "read only" message. Sorry about that.
The VOBs are typically read only files on the disc.
I have never run into a "read only" issue with regard to the Premiere Elements 10 Windows 7 64 bit Add Media/"DVD Camcorder or PC DVD Drive"/Video Importer. For that matter, not with any version of Premiere Elements with this particular feature.
When are you getting this message.
    a. When you click on DVD Camcorder or PC DVD Drive after Get Media
    b. When you click on Get Media in the Video Importer or other
Do you ever get a thumbnail for the VTS_01_1.VOB in the Video Importer? Is your burner drive recognized in the Source field of the Video Importer?
If you open and explore the DVD disc, go to the VTS_01_1.VOB in the VIDEO-TS Folder, go to the VOB's properties, can you remove
the mark next to "read only" and then have the Video Importer route work for you?
Also, if you copy the  VTS_01_1.VOB from the opened DVD disc and paste it to the computer desktop and remove the "read only" marking, can you then import
the VTS_01_1.VOB into Premiere Elements with its Get Media/Files and Folders?

  • Blurry Video Exports

    Hello!
I am working on a new project using the CS4 Master Collection and experiencing some issues using Premier Pro CS4.
I've created a new project in Adobe After Effects CS4 and exported a quicktime movie with high quality "animation" settings
applied to it.  The animation exports perfectly and is as crisp and clear as it gets.
After importing this video into Premiere, applying some audio and and a title, then exporting, I get blurry video.
I have tried almost 30 different settings to export the video even using the animation setting in Premier. ( which ends up looking like a compressed .gif file! )
No matter what I try, it's always blurry and compressed looking.  So far the best setting for quality is using the "Apple Intermediate Codec".
However, it's still not comparable to the After Effects Settings.
Here are my settings for After Effects:
    Quality: Best
    Resolution: Full
    Size: 720x480
    Frame rate: 29.97
    Format: Quicktime Movie
Pixel Aspet Ratio: D1 / DV NTSC (0.91)
    Output Info: Animation

    And my Premiere Project Settings:
    Editing Mode: Quicktime DV NTSC
    Timebase: 29.97
    Frame Size: 720x480
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1 / DV NTSC (0.9091)
