Blury Images on Timeline

I am new to Premiere Elements 9 or any other Elements for that matter. I am trying to put together a video made up of stills. All of my stills, which are a mix of jpg and bmp files are sharp in the organizer. But, when I move them into the timeline they become blury in playback. I have check all settings and made sure everything was set to high quality. I have used Windows movie maker in the past and all images from that program are sharp. I would hope that Elements with all of it's great features would do the same. I am sure i am missing something here. Any help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Badger.

Have you rendered your timeline?
Press Enter when you see red lines above the clips on your timeline. When the video is rendered, the red lines will turn green and your video should look much more like your final output.
Also, be sure to NEVER use photos larger than 1000x750 pixels in size in Premiere Elements, per my books and the FAQs to the right of this forum.

  • How do you rotate still image on timeline in CS 5.5.2 PP, when another timeline is open and video is off and audio only is used. ?

I am using a clip with video off and using audio only on second timeline.
The some still images need rotating,  (on the  main timeline ) it easy to do that in the monitor when I am not using an additional video timeline. however, I cannot orient the horizontal images to vertical .?
I have turned the second video off and , I am using audio only .
    Any ideas ?

it easy to do that in the monitor
Select image in timeline, then go up to the Effect Controls and highlight the word Motion.
Now a bounding box will appear in the Program Monitor.

  • Problem with image on timeline

    Hi,
This problem happened out of nowhere. I have been working with FCE for a few months now. All the sudden, when I put the image on the timeline, it automatically zooms every image to the upper left hand side.
I have already tried the button "always scale clips to sequence size" in the user preferences, as I was told to do. But didn't help.
Actually I can see the image in the viewer, and if I export what I edited, it is exported in the normal size. The problem is just in the timeline, but with that I cannot work, because I hardly see the image.
Any suggestions on what I should do?
    thanks a lot...

    Hi Tom,
let me tell you what happened. I am not able to capture videos from a DV Camera, using the firewire. I was told that it may be a problem with the iMac firewire connection. I haven't been able to take it to technical support yet and I had to edit the images from a Canon VIXIA HV30 (HD CMOS) I asked a friend that works with Avid on a PC to capture the images for me on a DVD. I took the DVD and using the Cinematize, imported it to FCE. (I had done the same thing with images from a regular mini-DV camera and it had worked... I don’t know what happened to get to the size of a web video...)
The item properties from those clips are the ones I sent you earlier:
    Type - clip
Creator - Quick Time Player Launcher
    Size - 1.3 GB
    Vid Rate - 29.97 fps
    frame size - 352 X 198
    Compressor - DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Data rate - 3.6 MB/sec
    Pixel aspect - square
The item properties for the sequence are the following:
    Size - 294.6 MB
    Vid rate - 29.97 fps
    Frame size - 352 X 198
    Compressor DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Data rate - 3.6 MB/sec
    Pixel aspect - square
I will try converting from the MPEG Streamclip, as you told me, but should I also change the properties in the sequence and how would I do that? I would like to work with the best quality possible, so if the option is to leave the image small with black around, that’s what I will do. But since the original image comes from a HD camera, I should be able, even using the DVD strategy, go get a better quality image, shouldn’t I?
Sorry for bothering you, and thank you very, very much for your help. I really appreciate it...
    Best regards,
    Luciana

  • No images from timeline on output monitor?

After installation CC: “Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects and Photoshop”, when I play from the timeline in Adobe Encore CS6, the output monitor gives only sound no images?
We have already install the newest drivers from Matrox.
Please tell me what to do?
    Best regards,
    Koos Wolf

Presumably by "Output monitor" you mean a monitor attached to the Matrox device - which I assume is an MXO2?
If so you will need to set Encore, as well as Premiere, to output the timeline through the MXO2.
In Encore go to the Edit menu, Select Preferences, then the Audio/video Out tab.  Go to the Video Out section of the panel, and select Matrox Player from the drop down list.
Now click on Set Up, and adjust the settings in the dialogue box to suit your format.

  • Some images in timeline are white, with "media offline" message in canvas

I am making a short movie of images taken on my Canon powershot S5 camera. I am importing photos and movie clips from this digital still camera. They appeared correctly on the timeline at first. I rendered them and they played fine on the canvas. Then after saving project and opening later, some of the images appeared white with the "media offline" message in the canvas. I tried locating a few of them and reconnecting which solved the problem. However, strange things are happening: when I click on the white images they turn black but still play OK. Also some of the pale blue images have the "media offline" message, others do not, or the same sequence in an earlier saved version plays with no problem.
If I burn a DVD of this movie (so far incomplete) will it look OK if all appears well in the canvas, regardless of the colour of the clips in the timeline, or should I take some action first to "clean up' the timeline before proceeding? In other words, is the image in the canvas a true representation of how the final project will look?
I would appreciate some advice please as I am a bit confused by this. Thank you. Keith

    JPEG photos don't need converting.
In FCE simply select File>Import and navigate to your photos.
Have you trashed your Thumbnail Cache folder yet as that will probably cure it?
They can be in a couple of places. By default FCE puts one lot in User>Documents>Final Cut Express Documents.
If you have specified an external scratch disk they will also be there, so look in FCE>System Settings>Scratch Disks to find out where you put them.
Once trashed, on relaunching FCE new ones are created.

  • Rotated images in timeline

    How does Premiere Elements work?
I have rotated images that have been shot at different orientations in the Organizer.
When I insert these images into the timeline in Elements 9 the image reverts to its former orientation.
I thought the orientation would be preserved when copying from Organizer.
    David

    David,
Most image viewers, like Organizer, do not initially actually Rotate an image, but just add instructions to the metadata, indicating how to display the image. One must do a Save/Save_As to actually affect the pixels. This process differs, depending on the viewer used. In Bridge (the big-brother to Organizer, and shipping/installing with PS, AI, PrPro, InDesign, AE), one just does a Save/Save_As, depending on whether one wishes to physically overwrite the existing image. Then, the pixels are actually re-arranged. Not sure exactly how (or if) PrE's Organizer handles the physical re-arrangement of the pixels.
PrE (and PrPro) will read the pixels, and not the metadata for the display.
In the NLE (Non Linear Editor) programs, one would follow Neale's advice, and use the fixed Effect>Rotation.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Crop image into Timeline?

    I have a 234x60 sequence and created a graphic/title in LiveType using a 4:3 template.
I want to crop that LiveType title to 234x60 (that's the only area of the image I need) and paste it into the FC timeline. When I do that, FC scales the LiveType "clip" down to fit its original 4:3 area into the FC timeline. This gives me a little black box in the middle of the frame with the cropped area exposed. As though I were looking at a scaled down version of the original LiveType file.
Is there a way to either crop the LiveType file in LIveType or drop it into the FC timeline and have the system NOT scale it down to the timeline size? I searched the LiveType manaul for "Crop" and found nothing.

Thanks. I see what you mean.
I inserted the clip, then reloaded it into the Viewer and reset the Scale to 100%, then cropped it and everything is fine.
Oh, and the "Helpful" and "Solved" buttons are still broken in the forum so no points for you.

  • IMovie freezing when double-clicking image in timeline

Whenever I accidently double-click an image in the timeline instead of a clip, iMovie starts to open the trimmer window, but freezes.  I am running 10.0.1 on a 2012 13" rMPB.

Ah...you NESTED. That is a NESTED sequence that you have dropped into your new one. when you double click on the nest, it opens up the nested sequence.
COPY/PASTE...don't nest. Nesting is evil and only should be used in very SPECIFIC instances. But those are rare. Copy and paste next time.

  • Thumbnail image in timeline

In Final Cut X, when I drag a clip from the browser and insert it in the timeline, I lose the thumbnail image and am left with only audio.  The image plays in the viewer however.  Does anyone have this problem or a solution?  Thanks.

use the edits buttons below the clip browsers or ensure that the mouse pointer turns into a hand before dragging.
Also, try to choose different views to see if the window refreshes itself. I don't know why this is happening on your side.

  • CS6 - Adding single image to Timeline

I have no problem adding video clips to Timeline and making adjustments.  But when I add a single digital photo to the timeline the image is "zoomed in" and doesn't match the size of the Video clips.
Can someone please explain how I correct this?
    Thanks...Tracy

Hi Alec...Thanks for posting a reply.  Yes...I did end up using the Transform tool...but I also needed to Zoom out (Ctrl -) and reposition (move) the Transform tool so I could "grab" the corners.  The image was so large that the some of the Transform tool was actually outside of the work area.  Then I was able grab and shift the Transform tool corner(s) and ensure that the entire picture eventually showed up in the transform tool.  Now the picture looked very small.  I committed the transform tool action and then zoomed in (CTRL +) to make more visible.

  • External monitor resizing image from timeline

    Hi Good Folks
I'm using an 800 x 600 output from FCP and trying to get my VGA external monitor to show me the canvas. I have tried all the permutations of A/V device output - here's what happens: my canvas is playing a clip which is 800 x 466 in origin. I moved to the bottom of the screen as needed and when it is not playing back, the image on my external monitor is correctly seen. When I hit playback, it shrinks vertically about 50% or so... can't figure out why! The external monitor is set to 800 x 600. This worked before with a different version of FCP.
    Any advice appreciated!
    John

    Mr. T-Cat
Thanks for replying. I understand you read and respond to many many posts... I am doing a video art installation in a large gallery and I "map" my video parts onto walls or areas which need to be tweaked with distort parameters or other modifications while in place. I hook up a video projector via VGA to my laptop and finish the video in the gallery. My video projectors work fine at 800 x 600. For video projection 800 x 600 is a standard video resolution. This is a problem with FCS3 as I have used this technique last year w/ FCP6. Motion 4 outputs the correct image and does QT7 & 10. I must have screwed up my sequence settings somehow? I followed another's advice and made an 800 x 600 ProRes422 seq. setting. When I drag a clip into the timeline a pop up window implies that External Video is not optimized, asks Yes or No - advice was No. FCP still says clip doesn't match my sequence settings and crushes the vertical height when playing back even if I drag a full 800 x 600 ProRes clip into my sequence, or say Yes change the seq settings to match.
    Thanks
btw, I will the program Isadora outputting 3 video streams (AIC @ 800x600) through a Matrox TH2Go into the three projectors each set at 800x600. The Matrox only does a 2400 x 600 output on my MBP thus the resolution.

  • Automatic scaling of imported images in timeline.

I am working in a HD 1280x1080 timeline, and I am importing images (jpgs, tiffs and PSDs) into the timeline, but they are getting scaled automatically, which is not what I want.
I am aware of the pixel-apect issue- what I would like if for the images to appear at 100% of their original size in the time line.
Any one know how this can be accomplished?
    Thanks.

I think the automatic scaling is a "feature" of FCP ... it does save time in most instances. But for your situation, place the images in the Timeline, double-click one of them to load it into the Viewer. Click on the Motion tab and change the scale value to 100% and the aspect ratio (under the Distort control) to 0 if needed. Next, right-click on the image in the Timeline you just adjusted and choose 'Copy.' Then select all other images in the Timeline, right-click on one and select "Paste Attributes" from the contextual menu. When the Paste Attributes window opens, select 'Basic Motion' and 'Distort' then click OK.

  • Grainy and blury images

I created an invitation using 5x7 format.  I downloaded a couple of images from the web and a picture of my son on the invitation.  i sent the file to Shutterfly to have them printed but I chose to have them printed in 4x6.  When I got the invitations/pictures back the images appeared to be a little blury and grainy.  I am not sure what I did wrong.  The image on the computer did not look that bad.  Please help.  Can I correct the invitations without starting all over.  I am running out of time to have these sent to all of my guests.
    Thank you

It sounds like you are up against that tricky concept: resolution. A photo needs many less pixels to look good onscreen than to print well. 72 pixels per inch is considered just fine for screen viewing, but for a good print you usually want closer to 300 pixels per inch. When you increase the pixel density you also make the object smaller. So if you've been placing web objects at the same size they appeared on the web (they should be a whole lot smaller in a 300 ppi file, usually), or if you've been dragging objects larger than 100% of their original size, things are going to look bad when they print.
If your base  image file for the invitation was set to 72 ppi, that's more or less a guarantee of a bad print, most of the time.

  • Add crop to series of images on timeline - possible ?

    Good evening,
I have 58 images on the timeline, and I'm trying to add a "crop" to
all the images at the same time.
This seems impossible. I've even grouped all the images together,
and I can only get the crop applied to the first image.
Is there a way to accomplish this ?
    Thank you for any information
    Dave.

One way is to use a
    nested sequence.
    Cheers
