BO Beginner tutorials?

Hello,
I have read the tutorial series from Ingo Hilgefort about installation, configurating the BO Edge XI Server and creating a dashboard with XCelsius on top of a SAP BI-query (which are very good for getting started in BO).
I am looking for additional tutorials about other functions of the Business objects software (particularly for Edge XI Server).
Are there other good tutorials about business objects technologies (e.g. BO Data Integrator, or setting up a data warehouse with BO)?
Thanks

  • Photoshop CS4 Beginner Tutorials

    Hi,
    I am very frustrated because I cannot seem to find a very "beginner" type Photoshop tutorial. I am still not understanding how to work in layers (don't laugh, c'mon!). I have a photo that I need to remove the background from and I cannot figure out how to do it--create the mask, etc. It appears to be only one layer, locked, and so I cannot separate anything.
    Can anyone recommend a free, online beginner tutorial where I can learn how to do that?  Thanks much!

    To elaborate on ir8idiot’s post:
    • Make a layer of the image (if it is the Background Layer double-click it)
    • Add a Layer Mask (third icon from the left at the Layers Panel bottom)
    • Use any paint or selection tool (brushes, magic wand, lasso, …) to signify the unwanted regions in the Mask by painting or filling selections with black (or white to make visible again) – note that the Mask and not the Layer is active, so the double contour should be on the Mask’s symbol
    • Shift Clicking will disable the Mask, alt-clicking will make the Mask alone visible

  • Video tutorials for completel LR newbies?

    A few years back I had been using CS5, (but not very well), and also an application by Nikon called Capture NX2. I got semi proficient with NX2 and like the results I got with that. As time went on I slowly moved on from my photography hobby, (still have all my gear though).
    Just recently I've got the photo bug again and I really enjoy editing the shots I take. I've never used LR before so I was wondering if there are video tutorials for the absolute basics?

  • Looking for some assistance

    I would be classified as a beginner when it comes to flash.
    When searching around in the forums, I feel completely lost when I
    see a huge list of actionscript. However, I was hoping someone
    would be able to direct me to some great beginner tutorials or
    assist me right in here. What i'm trying to do is build a website
    to showcase my work as a game designer; mainly artwork, movies,
    flash games, and user downloadable modding/mapping files. What I'm
    looking for is....
    1) How to load images/movies from external sources. I managed
    to find a resource that explains using "load external movieclip".
    It works perfectly for the images, and seemed to work for .swf
    files. However, what can I use to load other movie types such as
    (.wmv, .mpg, .avi)?
    2) How to add a simple preloader to the images/movies that
    will be loading.
    3) How to load flash games. I'm not certain, but my best
    guess is that I could use the "low external movieclip" behavior.
    4) The last thing I want to know is how I can allow users to
    download files from my flash site. I'm going to use a simple
    button, but I'm unsure of how to set that up.
    Like I said, I'm only a beginner, so any tutorials related to
    what I need or code samples of what might work would be greatly
    appreciated. Thank you!

    Seems a canny bit out of my scope lol, but could you not just
    use invisible buttons again, but place them on higher layers than
    the main one?

  • A few cross browser questions

    Hello, I have been searching for results for sometime and
    decided to come here to ask my question.
    Now, I know these questions have been asked alot of times but
    I have no good results.
    My question:
    Why does every website I make look Good in IE and bad in
    firefox?
    or vise versa. I can make it look good in firefox but looks
    bad in I.E.
    I mean I layout the design perfectly in Dreamweaver 8 and it
    looks sweet in I.E. preview in Firefox and it makes me not want to
    make layouts any more..
    What do I do? And how do I fix this?
    Currently I am making a "Liquid" Layout, using "%" for my Div
    and Tables, and they seem to be ok in I.E. like I stated, but still
    when I view in firefox, everything is to the left or off centerd or
    just plain nasty.
    Anytips? I got the whole Screen Resolution trick down, now I
    just need professinal tips on cross browser design.
    I don't have my site hosted yet so I cannot give you a
    preview. I am sure you know what I am talking about as well.
    I searched google and many forums (including this one) and
    came up empty handed.
    What am I doing wrong? Do I just manage the site as it is
    even though that the website is 5px off to the right/left in
    firefox and looks great in internet explorer.
    I want to provide a clean site for both browsers with out
    having them redirecting.
    Which I can redirect one "If I.E." to a page, and redirect FF
    to a diffrent. But that's a hassel in my view.
    Seriously, what do I do?
    Thank you for your time and any response.

    As Jo mentioned, it would be too hard to give you advice on
    your page
    without seeing the code (or even better a live version).
    The better approach is to design for Firefox and then fix the
    errors that
    are produced in IE.
    Are you using a full doc type? That is important, because if
    not, then IE
    will go into quirks mode, thinking it is rendering your page
    correctly, but
    FFox will show it out of wack.....
    are you using divs of 'layers' (absolutely positioned divs)?
    As you can see there are many things that may be wrong with
    your site- so
    without seeing it, it's too difficult to offer specific
    advice.
    Have you been through the css tutorials at the Adobe site
    (link in my
    sig)..... they are very helpful - starting with beginner
    tutorials and
    moving on from there.

  • HOW to use class in different file???

    hi
    I want to use other class
    and write them separately in different .java file
    but when i compile the one who call the class
    it says it cannot resolve the symbol, which is the class name I call
    Can anyone help me

    it says it cannot resolve the symbol, which is the
    class name I callYep. This is a "classpath" problem. You have to tell Java where all the class files are that you'll be using. The simplest way to do this when you're starting out is to make sure all your files are in the same directory and compile using the following command:
    javac -classpath . *.javaTake careful note of the spaces and "." after the "-classpath". This tells Java to look in the current directory for your class files (naturally, you'll need to be in the same directory as your *.java files when you run that command).
    You may also want to check out the beginner tutorials available on this site. They'll help out a bunch!

  • Where to Begin in Xcode?

    Hello-
    I am completely new to programming.
    I have an idea for an iphone ap that I would eventually like to use on other platforms.
    This is for musical training purposes.
    It consists of several illustrator diagrams that will move in time to metronome settings in beats per minute.
    What's the best template to create musical aps that take metronome markings, and simple audio sounds?
    I just started looking at the video tutorials and they are way over my head at this point but I want to learn as much as I can.
    Are there any rudimentary projects that I could work through to get my feet wet on basic concepts?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    There are several "learning to program" threads in the development forums - I suggest you review the answers given to others.
    If you're really not sure where to start I think the tutorials here: http://cocoadevcentral.com/ are some of the best very beginner tutorials there are. There are also several books that are highly regarding that you will see mentioned over and over again like Aaron Hillegasses book ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0321503619/bignerdranch-20 ) along with others.
    I know this doesn't answer your question directly but jumping into a complex application is like trying to go directly to running without walking first. My advice - start with the basics and at least start walking before you try to run.
    Good luck,

  • CS4 Should I Stay or should I Go ?

    I am having a difficult time to decide if I should stay with Dreamweaver as my WYSIWYG editor for web development.
    I am still quite new to the whole Dynamic website development but am well experienced in Visual Basic
    I have been using Dreamweaver MX (I know its dated) and learning it from a old book I had on DW Mx
    I have discovered that ASP is dead or on its way out and ASP.NET is quickly becoming the new standerd for back end web development logic and bowser indepentent websites. Sooo.....
    My Problem is this:
    I recently found out that CS4 as dropped ASP.NET all together (for the most part) and that CS3 only has ASP.NET 1.1 support. I really like the Dreamweaver IDE because it is very nice for doing front end design and easy too. However I am not going to switch to PHP or JAVA stuff for back end dev I know and like .NET enviroment (somewhat)  and wish to stay with that technology so am I better off droping Dreamweaver all together and going with MS Visual Studio or MS Expression or is there a way that I can keep Dreamweaver (which I would like) and still be able to do the ASP.NET stuff in a different program and than just add it to my Dreamweaver stuff when its ready. I don't know if Dreamweaver will allow you to marry stuff done in ASP.NET with other software to stuff developed in Dreamweaver or not and even if it does I am unsure this is practical perhaps I am better off just dumping Dreamweaver.
    Soo.... Should I stay or should I go ?
    VR Foxman

    I guess I wasn't as clear as I thought I was being.   Expression Web like Dreamweaver is more of a front-end design program with some light server side tools in it. You don't really write server side code that much in either one since Code Completion (DW) and Intellisense (EW) basically give you syntax highlighting and some properties but neither are the best choice for serious back-end development. EW lets you interact with the ASP.NET 2.0/3.5 controls. Dreamweaver CS 3 has limited ASP.NET 1/1.1 support which have different capabilities and require a different application pool from 2.0/3.5. You shouldn't mix the two because they really aren't that compatible. Besides the ASP.NET 1/1.1 code output is pretty bad while 2.0/3.5 can be as clean as you have the knowledge to make it.
    I don't think it matters much which version of Dreamweaver you when it comes to ASP.NET because you shouldn't rely on any Dreamweaver dotnet controls/appications. What support that is available in CS3 is ASP.NET 1/1.1 and it isn't compatible with ASP.NET 2.0 which is what most hosting is running. Besides ASP.NET 1.0/1.1 is a typical first release product and many of the things have been fixed in 2.0. ASP.NET 3.5 is primarily the Windows Presentation Foundation toolset running on top of 2.0 which is still used for underlying processing so those are what you typically find together in hosting.
    There are other benefits from moving to CS 4 from CS 3 but working with dotnet isn't one of them and shouldn't influence the decision on which version to use.
    You should spend some time over at http://asp.net in their beginner tutorials because code behind doesn't run in script tags but rather in separate cs or vb files. VB.NET is absolutely nothing like the Visual Basic you are familiar with. My partner has had a difficult time moving from VB to VB.NET as a result. Far more than I had since I used only VBScript. Many of the Classic ASP users I know have migrated to PHP instead of of moving to dotnet for that reason. The structure and methods are closer between ASP & PHP than they are between dotnet and classic ASP. So you might want to experiement a little with both VB.NET and PHP before you commit completely. Get the free Visual Web Developer Express for testing dotnet and use Dreamweaver for testing out PHP.
    After you have a handle on which is really a better choice for you then you are in a better position to know how to proceed.

  • Doubt in Document in Template

    Hi All,
    I am the beginner. I am studying through "InDesignCS3_ScriptingGuide_JS".
    In page no 13, there is script 'save a document as a template'
    Below script i am not able to understand, Can anyone explain it breifly if you willing.
    Lines are below.
    var myFileName;
    if(app.activeDocument.saved == true){
    //Convert the file name to a string.
    myFileName = app.activeDocument.fullName + "";
    //If the file name contains the extension ".indd", change it to ".indt".
    if(myFileName.indexOf(".indd")!=-1){
    var myRegularExpression = /.indd/gi
    myFileName = myFileName.replace(myRegularExpression, ".indt");
    Thanks in advance for all you read my scripts.
    Thanks
    BEGINNER

    well..
    the script is very well commented..
    if(app.activeDocument.saved == true){
    checks if the current active document is saved. This is important because "Unsaved documents have no full name".
    myFileName = app.activeDocument.fullName + "";
    the fullName property of a document object returns a File object. This line converts that File object to a string (-containing the full path including the file name). The implementation is a bit unorthodox (don't think you will find it in many JavaScript books), but it works. Another way of doing it is: myFileName = app.activeDocument.fullName.toString()
    if(myFileName.indexOf(".indd")!=-1){
    checks if the string previously obtained contains ".indd". the indexOf() method of the String object returns -1 if the search string is not found. The problem here (and in the next lines) is if the file name is somenthing like: "myStrangeFile.indd.modifiedByStupidUser.indt"
    for the rest of the lines I direct you to any general JavaScript beginner tutorials/books. A good reference: http://www.javascriptkit.com/jsref/

  • DW template...

    Hi,
    I'm investigating a sample template that came w/ DW to learn more about building tableless sites.
    What I'm not seeing is any defined, varying font sizes for within the different divs. The example defines the font once in the body CSS as font: 100%.
    If I, for example, reduce that %, the divs get a lot smaller, so the overall structure of the site changes.
    Would the common solution be to define the <p>, <h1>, <h2>, etc, separately so I can vary up the font appearance styles a bit without affecting the div containers?
    Thank you.

    In all seriousness, those template are not that easy to work with - especially for a beginner.

    If you want to do further work on the image, you go back into Lightroom and work on the (edited) original file. You never do further work in Lightroom on Exported photos.
    If I search Finder on the Mac the new image is in the Finder but not accessible in LR5
    Yes, when you Export a photo, by default it is not shown in Lightroom. Normally, you export a photo when you are finished editing it, and then you only export for some non-Lightroom purpose like e-mail, web, print, other application. If you are exporting a photo and then wanting to see it in LR so you can do further work on it, I'd have to question why that is necessary.
